Travel / Re: At The NVC Processing Stage Of The U. S Family Based Preference Category. by SirWahl1: 1:52pm On Feb 19
seadoftj:

Does anyone have an answer to this question? My mother in-law has been waiting since September after the approval of all documents and forwarded to the NVC. We have not received any date for interview since then. Anyone with the same experience, please share!

Hi,

I found a FB group where intending immigrants share experiences. From the information available, Lagos is interviewing those DQ in May 2023 for the IR visa categories.

So your answer has to do with her visa category .

Hope this helps

Hey guys, I have been reading for a while.

I am a USC, filled for my daughter (I-130) in September 2022.
January 12, 2024, got approved and case sent to NVC,
Recvied welcome letter/mail on Jan 19th 2024
Submitted all the required documents on Jan 26th, on February 2nd one of the documents rejected after review. I replaced the document same day and today February 5th got a mail Documentarily qualified and asked to wait for interview letter.

Her visa category is IR2. Please anyone with idea of how soon Lagos will be ready for an interview?

Sad to say it, who ever the Democratic Party brings, Trump will win. America will not vote a socialist in Sanders as president. If Sanders does not get the ticket, He will rock the Democratic Party.
His supporters are Bennie or Burst .

Trump will get re-elected

Does the Democratic Party have any candidate right now that can defeat Trump? That is the bigger question

Let me put this out there too. Recently African Americans has always wanted to visit Africa as a way to connect back to their roots.

My local church just had over 100 people take a 2 weeks trip to Ghana. Guess who organized the trip a white man

There are lots of ideas and business opportunities out there, but we need a structure to be able to tap into most of this things. There is also the minority rule when it comes to awarding contract.
Our individualism won’t let us tap into this

This is exactly what I am talking about. I remember when I just came to US and the first hustling gigs I got, it was all Mexicans and Latinos.

Once one of them gets into a place, they immediately flood the place with their kinsmen.
Why is the Nigerian community different.

A white woman gave me my first true job in Chicago. The support system the Arabs, Chinese , Indians and Mexicans enjoy is literally non existent in the Nigeria community or even the African community.

The African grocery shop in my neighborhood is ran by Mexicans, The weave and African fabric shop is ran by Indians .

They are able to do these seemingly big things because they pull resources and ideas together.

We are better than drinking and attending parties together or driving Uber and lyft
oluwarichie:
Has anyone seen how the asian, arabs or indian people sorround themselves in any state you find them in the U.S. Its amazing

In our individualism? NO. I'm actually saying the opposite here, this idea of putting our fellow Nigerians at arms length is doing us much bad than good. And like you said it because of instances, senerios that has happened again and again, true! The thing is wherever we go you then to divided ourself if before other people do like we do back home.... My take is coming together as a community will do us much good.

By the way I sent you a mail request via nairaland kindly attend

Are you suggesting we continue in our individualism? We are a very hard working ethnic group with lots of cash in our community but with the least vested interest in terms of building business.

I think we should begin to do things differently or try again where others have failed

PaulSimon2020:
And that mindset is as a result of what has happened over and over again here. I assume you are some what new here, be watchful.

WhatsApp group for those of us living in Chicago. Where we can share business ideas and pull resources together for business. If interested hit me up.
This is what I see the Mexican community do. Guess we will go further pulling resources and ideas together

Well done great people. As a permanent resident of Canada who is still in Nigeria without any travel history, what are my chances of getting a visa with my father to visit my brother who has a green card and will sponsoring the trip?

My only ties to Nigeria are my spouse and child.

Is it better for me to first travel to Canada as a Permanent Resident and apply for US visa from there? Is there a likelihood of me being given from Canada rather than from Nigeria?

I'd appreciate your responses

As a US permanent resident, I did not need a VISA to visit Canada, All I did was pay about $30 at the airport and an ETS was printed for me.

I guess it will be same thing for a person who has a Canadian permanent residence while visiting US

OP, i will advice not to rush into making decisions. I have had people saying go into IT or nursing and i'll be making cool money but my interest never lies in IT.

As for the nursing, they have crazy schedules that can really really be stressful..

I studied Engineering and I have a passion for Engineering and i am starting classes at Darley College(76th and Pulaski) this fall.

Kindly please consider your options clearly and dont rush into making decisions.

The financial controller of cook county that cover Chicago land area is a Nigerian, I know quite a couple of them but like you said they all added an American degree or certificate, guess that’s where I am lacking for now.

Atlanta is not bad at all but it’s pretty hot up there weather wise same as Texas. I will wait for your findings
abike12:

That's good. I know a non Nigerian in the financial sector that's doing very well there but I've not seen anyone coming from Nigeria to live in chicago have a soft landing. IT will require a bunch of certifications and I think weekend classes for a month or thereabouts. I'll reach out to a friend to get you specifics. One thing I will tell you is if you plan to remain in professional jobs long term then you need to add a US degree to your plans.

my first advice would be to leave chicago. Nigerians there are not up to much as far as legal life. I literally don't know one Nigerian in chicago that's up to much. If you are open to relocation I would suggest atlanta, houston, dallas, places with upwardly mobile black people and Nigerians, low cost of living, nice houses in the 200s, and lots of opportunity. IT is definitely having it's moment now and you don't have to spend much on education to get your foot in the door. I like that it's flexible, allowing you to work from home and have other side gigs. If it sounds like something you're interested in I can ask around for how to get started. I'm assuming you're a permanent resident...
You do place Texas above Illinois? I do like to know about the IT stuff though. FYI there are lost of successful black/ Nigerians in chicago the downside is it’s a highly competitive market and you would expect from the third most viable city in the US

Wave is instant as well. Though your first transaction might undergo verification process, which you can clear up in few minutes by calling their number to confirm your identity. To me every dollar/naira matters, so I always go for the best deal.

I will give it a shot too. Been using WorldRemit since bossmoney gave me issues. The rate could go up to as much as $20 and as low as $5.
So am definitely going to try out wave next time.

Every dollar counts

Use Xoom. It's what I use to send money from America to Nigeria direct to bank account. It's owed by PayPal now who I hate but it gets the job done. Also very low flat fee of $5

Thanks man. Checked it out, xoom is N4 less but that was not really a big deal but it says it needs couple of days to complete the transaction. Used to instant transfer of boss Revolution

Racism don't win elections in America.Trump is not the first white president and he won't be the last.
Trump will LOSE his reelection irrespective who Democrat puts forward.majority of Americans are tired of his leadership and they have seen through his lies, his incompetence, his bigotry and a whole lot of crisis going on in his administration. He has failed in his vague and opaque promises, the major ones being his failed healthcare reforms, immigration and even tax reforms which is turning out to be a fraud.
Incumbency factor hadly sway elections too,you can't use 'I will ' as a campaign lines again for reelection but 'I have ' and voters use your results to pass judgements on you. The last midterms was a pointer to what is to come and Americans are ready for it.
Sometimes it's very easy to predicts elections outcomes in the US because of its peculiarity.there are traditionally blue and red states in addition to few swing states except in case of some unusual occurrence.Wisconsin,Michigan and Pennsylvania.a traditionally blue states went for him last time which gave him the presidency.Democtrat are not going to allow that happen again.
The swam of contestants coming out from Democrat should tell you something, whoever wins the primary wins the white house.they know this.

Lol Trump would win and this time around it will be by both popular votes and college vote.
Democrats are yet to get their act together and Mr. Trumps base is not weaning.

Kanye West wears the Maga cap and yes there are black republicans who are also Trump supporters

Holocene:

Well sorry if I generalize but the MAGA cap is looked in the same light as the white cap hood of the KKK... I haven't seen any minority in the USA proudly wearing it.
