Infant mortality rates amongst Yorubas is much higher than it is with Igbos in Lagos.
Wealth provides you with better health care, more food for the little ones, and better education. Polygamy produces a lot of kids, but how many out of the lot live past the age of 5??
Anyways, lets not turn this into a discussion about Igbo this and Igbo that (what's with the obsession?), this thread is about the failures of government. Lets keep it that way. Afam: I stated earlier that the focus is on Fashola because Lagos is usually in the spotlight.
I was in Enugu sometime last month and I was shocked at what the governor is doing in that state. Security is guaranteed and basically non existent fraudulent practices as he personally inspects projects at night, does not move around with siren and all that. I am sure not many people know this, hence my referencing him.
I do not belong to the group that are desperate to prove that their tribe is better. I do not want to belong to the same group with idiots like larez and sjeezy8.
Well, considering the high level of "intelligence" you just displayed by putting the population of Lagos at 15 - 20 million and the very stupid notion that while you are ready to praise Fashola for the work he is doing in Lagos and claiming he is a performing governor (by the way in comparison with others) you cannot stand any form of reference to another performing governor.
Only tribal bigots like you can descend so low like you have done.
By the way my reference to Sullivan of Enugu was clear enough as some idiots like you had earlier claimed that other states would not mind having Fashola as their own governor.
Interesting, when you are not lying about anything, spreading hate you are typing out of point.
Where were you when idiots like you claimed that other states would not mind having Fashola as their own governor.
In case your warped sense of reasoning cannot get any worse, the moment you begin to compare Fashola to other governors you simply invite comparisons whether your pig head agrees with this fact or not.
Why don't you rid yourself of the Yoruba this, Yoruba that. There is life outside tribalism shithead. GREAT THANKS, ( still not making sense of your statement about how Sullivan of Enugu is performing very well compared to "well" Fashola) The fact remains the same Enugu aint shiot the population is like 1/3 of Lagos' less people more ) The state has a population of 17 million out of a national estimate of 150 million. The UN estimates that at its present growth rate, Lagos state will be third largest mega city the world by Y2015 after Tokyo in Japan an Bombay in India.
Of this population, Metropolitan Lagos, an area covering 37% of the land area of Lagos State is home to over 85% of the State population.http://www.lagosstate.gov.ng/index.php?page=subpage&spid=12&mnu=null |

Afam: @topic,
Fashola is doing well but Sullivan Chime is doing very well in Enugu state.
Unfortunately, many people focus their attention on Lagos and wrongly assume that he is the only performing governor to the extent that some people would claim that other states would not mind Fashola becoming their preferred governor. From your earlier post i thought you had some sense but now i see you dont. How can one compare Enugu with a population of 5-6 million to Lagos with a population of 15-20 million? Not to mention the decades of neglect made by the Federal Government in regards to Lagos' population density. Fashola is doing 1 trillion times better than Sullivan Chime. Give credit where credit is due especially with Lagos being the smallest state in Nigeria while having the highest population. Not to mention the many illiterate migrants from all of Nigeria, Niger republic, Benin republic and Burkina Faso. When Enugu reaches 15- 20 million poplation with a predicted growth to 25 million we'll acknowledge Enugu. But right now fashola is doin what he can and its like david and goliath. |

naijaking1: An honest, and progressive federal government would provide evidence for 1,2,3; but since that's not forthcoming, just think for yourself then. Why are the Igbos, the only tribe you would mostly find in every nook and cranny in Nigeria, and Africa in general? Why do the Igbos record the highest number of secondary and post-secondary entrance applications? Why are the Igbos usually the highest number to apply for any open position in Nigeria---both public and private.
If you don't know these answers, don't worry, because somebody in top echellons of government knows the answers, and that's why they don't want an honest and accurate census.
Don't forget that while politically manipulated census is one way of sharing the federal money, there are other methods of evaluating a people's population. No need to argue with you Why wouldn't igbos be all over Nigeria? there isn't anything in igboland worth outsiders investing in besides oil/gas and there is no need to live their. I know igbos that have oil in the EAST and live in the west. How many university of quality are in the EAST? not many because they all go to school in the west. When did igbos ever have the highest number of civil servants? No doubt igbos ambition is to make money in the private sector, but public is a plain outright lie. Like i always said igbos are good economist but terrible civil servants and politicians PERIOD. They are good at multiplying but lack ambition for change politically and socially. Many say they also lack in the ability to implement realistic change. |

Truth of the matter is that those clothes look western because the white men traded and resided in the N/delta more than any other part of west Africa starting from the times of slave trade; hence influencing their culture; dressing, names and language.
It might also interest you to know that even your buba, babariga or Isiagu are all borrowed from either the west or other African countries. So, the Europeans must have been laughing at you all these while.

naijaking1: Two things wrong with Nigerian census:
1. Failure to enumerate based on tribe/religion 2. Political manipulation of figures to favor the political class. Who would have believed that "Lagos had less population than Kano?"
The reality:
1. Lagos is more populous than the 10 core northern states combined 2. Igbos have been, and remain the most populous tribe in Nigeria 3. Nigeria is closer to 60% christians, 30% muslims, and 10% animists, instead of the this so-called 'roughly equal percentage of christians and muslims' LOL are you Nigerian or from Romania because eveything you stated is totally opposite of what reality in Nigeria is. Until you have evidence for your 1,2,3, I suggest you keep your ridiculous comments to yourself. If Census is based on rough numbers, what makes you think your opinion is right when its based on NO NUMBERS. |
Politics › Re: Must Watch Video About Lagos State Population. by sjeezy8: 3:57am On Aug 26, 2009 |
Bialegend: All you Yorubas should stop whining and deal face to face with the ugly situation that you collaborated with the awusas to cause and still causing till this day. In your bid to contain the Igbos and made them to leave their land and migrate to yours in mass in other for them to forget about the creation of Biafra in place for nigeria, what you got is over population of your beloved Lagos and soon Abuja will follow suit in the same complain, and i mean very soon.
You Yorubas should stop being hypocrites by claiming not to know the actual reason why Lagos population is exploding. It is simple, the need for nigeria whom you are helping to contain Igbos because of fear of creation of Biafra. It is a fact today that Lagos population exploded/ is exploding mainly because of Igbo's immigration from their Igbo areas to Lagos. It is pure fact that Igbos alone make up about 50% of Lagos population today, and if their is no adequate and sincere plan to curb the influx of Igbos into Lagos, then within the next 10 years, be sure that Igbos would have become about 70% of all people in Lagos.
Fact is that you can never stop an Igbo person from seeking for, exploring and sticking to where there are better amenities for his or her business which sustains his/her life than what he/she obtains in his/her own area. An average Igbo person is ambitious and always aims higher and in so doing, always look beyond his area to utilize what ever will be much easier for him to use in attaining more heights than he or she use to be. You want to curb the influx of people/Igbos into Lagos and also spark mass emigration of people/Igbos from Lagos? Okay, here's what to do. You hypocrites pretends not to know, but i must remind you.
FIRST OF ALL, THE MASS IMMIGRATION OF IGBOS TO LAGOS IS NOT BY CHOICE, BUT WAS BORN OUT OF NECESSITY.
Begin with international airport either at Owerri, Onitsha or Enugu where Igbo people can fly into from anywhere abroad. What is the need for every Igbo person to fly into Yoruba or awusa territory first, before traveling by road or by air again back to his home land. A forced wish due to the nigerians need to contain the Igbos because of the fear of emergence of Biafra. Again, why must i, an Igbo man fly from New York to Lagos or to Abuja, but not direct to Owerri, Enugu or Onitsha? This done will help and ease your so much talked about congestion at MM airport Lagos.
Then a gigantic sea port at Onitsha, where Igbos can be able to directly import all their goods/merchandise into nigeria without having to do so through Tin can Island and Apapa sea ports. Over 80% of all imported goods/merchandise into nigeria are done by Igbos and this is pure fact. (That is why awusas and Yoruba are always scrambling to become cheif customs comptroller general so they can milk on Igbo sweat generated tax money for their federal government. (Bode George and Atiku comes to mind) google them and see how much NPA money they embezzled. Those are not awusa or Yoruba taxed money, but Igbo's.
Sea ports in nigeria are the second most foreign exchange earner for nigeria after the Niger Delta oil. Over 95% of imported goods into nigeria are through Apapa and TinCan island seaports, all based at Lagos. What happens to other coastal lines in the eastern parts of nigeria, whereby if imported goods/merchandise should be allowed to come into nigeria through those areas as they are allowed in through Lagos sea ports, the congestion on Lagos will be eased, most Igbo businesses will relocate to Igbo areas where it will be less cost effective for their businesses. But no, that will mean Igbos will secretly start to import arms through those areas to achieve their Biafran dream. They must import through Lagos, where by all their importation activities will be strictly monitored by the nigerian security apparatus. Unnecessary Igbo fear is the downfall of nigeria, but they won't accept this fact
If Onitsha is not possible due to the existing fear and plan to contain the Igbos, then the sea ports at Onne Porthacourt and Calabar which are much nearer to Igbo areas must be open for any goods to come in directly through both sea ports from anywhere in the world. As of today, you can not just import what ever you wish through Onne and Calabar sea ports and it will be seized by the federal government of awusa and Yoruba. Do you know how much it will cost you to haul your imported goods from Lagos to Igbo mainland areas, and do you know how much it will cost you to haul the same amount of goods from either Portharcourt or Calabar to Igbo mainland areas? Your guess is good. A good business person always explore and stick to where it is cheaper for him or her to operate, and no how, no how, you nigerians must travel down to Igbo land to buy your needed goods in the event of Igbos emigration to their areas. It is natural.
Such easy ventures in making business access much easier can make thousands of Igbo business community to relocate/emigrate back to their areas, because they Igbos didn't migrate to Lagos to view the high rising towers in Lagos, but to search for better and improved means of making their lively hood which was systematically made almost impossible in their Igbo areas by the awusa and Yoruba controlled federal government because of the war they won through the help of Britain, USSR, Egypt, Sudan and others,
Good federal road network access and federal Buildings/infrastructures in all Igbo areas. At present, none is existing. As it is been done in Abuja and Lagos with federal/Niger Delta oil money, so shall it be done in one or two Igbo cities including the two most important which are direct landing international airport and sea port and watch emigration in masse from Lagos and Abuja to Igbo areas start to happen. It is not a rocket science, but Yorubas will keep on complaining and moaning about the over population of Lagos without pinpointing the root cause/s of it due to their hypocritical nature. Nigeria is ONE, which is exactely what you people wanted and supported, so deal with the situation. If you want decongestion, it's easy, but if you want to keep burying your heads in sand, then stop complaining.
It is natural for humans from time immemorial (lazy ones due to their nature are not included) to migrate to places where there are much better and easy access for their businesses which is the major means of their survival and Igbos are not an exception. You Ostrich nigerians should stop burying your heads in sands. Stop pretending and do all that i listed above which is very easy and watch Igbos leave your Lagos and Abuja back to their places. Okay, keep pretending and keep hypocriting (my own word) and watch Igbos reach over 70% of Lagos population in the next ten years. Fact is that you can not stop us from moving to anywhere we find it much better and easier for our businesses to survive, after all, we are in ONE nigeria. End of story. Stop whining and deal with the situation that you helped created due to fear and planned containment of Igbos. STOP MAKING IT ABOUT TRIBES BUT SINCE YOU SAID IT If igbos influx lagos GREAT as long as they come with money. We in Lagos take pride in diversity, but i highly doubt igbos would leave igboland to wither away and build anothers homeland, but then again they have been doing it for the last 40 years!!!! 70% of Lagos will be igbo is funny. You guys aren't even majority in states other than your 5 tiny states . IGBOS MAKING UP 50% of Lagos is just dumb.Thats like saying 50% of poor people in Lagos are igbo. I thought you guys were JEWS. If igbos want to come to Lagos we except them and their money with open arms. The same Lagos you people say is dirty you want to flock to, but hey come and clean it up with your money. The fact remains the same, MIND YOU MANY WHO GROW UP IN LAGOS SPEAK MORE YORUBA THEN THEIR MOTHER TONGUES/SHARE SAME VALUES AS YORUBAS. WE RUB OFF LIKE DAT Some igbos dont know what they want to do. You're saying igbos are 50% of Lagos, the others are sayin igbos dont live in dirty Lagos. You all said igbos love igboland or Biafra, but you're now sayin within the next 10 years you will leave igboland come live and invest in Lagos.
