^^ Even if Awo was a tribalist though i think he wasnt( because he was the premiere of the west) there is no one who did what he did or even came close- POINT BLANK Like it seems tribalism is blinding you folks - Im not even a fan of Awolowo ( its not like hes my father) but I give credit where its due. Pure development and accomplishments. Ibadan- during Awos time- https://www.everyculture.com/images/ctc_03_img0804.jpgIf you can find any city in the East or North during this time that is better please post it.until then Awolowo will remain as having no equal during his time. |

jas man: Every thing you may have said about Awolowo may be true for the Yorubas. Awolowo was a tribalist not a national figure. so short up and stop misrepresenting the fact about this man. His vision and everything is for the Yorubas. He's not our drean Nigerian Leader. just a Yoruba man that loves his tribe men and women. What Nigeria needs is a true Leader that loves Nigeria and Nigerians even if he's not of Yoruba tribd Tribe aside who accomplished more ? Even Zik as president what did he do? Balewa? Eyo ita? Like really and you missed the subject because it wasnt about whos the greatest Nigerian leader who is a nationalist- It was about who was equal to Awolowo during his time, and it still remains No one. Im asking if you can name anyone please do so . . . |

Katsumoto: In UK politics, politicians have to go to constituencies, sometimes different from where they live or were born, to contest. But the central theme to all these is that English politicians contest in English constituencies while Scottish politicians contest in scottish constituencies. You asked the question about Tony Blair so why don't you answer it. Why did Tony Blair, who was a third generation English man in scotland, not contest in Scotland and you will finally grasp the point that I am making. I never stated anything about people contesting where they were born or where they live. My point is that people contest in the same region as others like them.
Now you talk about Michael Howard whose dad was Romanian-Hungarian. The same Michael Howard whose father changed his Hungarian name, Hecht, to Howard after moving to England. So why did he change his name to an English name? Did he have a Wesh name or an English name? The fact is that many English people think Michael Howard is English. He even contested a seat in Liverpool twice but lost before contesting in folkestone and Hythe. The other fact is that it is easier for other nationalities to be accepted in England or Scotland as long as they act English or Scottish. Florida, like Texas, is a deep south state. It is very conservative. Jeb Bush or any other Bush can win an election in Texas, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama. Do you think Bush or any other ultra-conservative can contest in New York, Seattle, Massachusetts?
I am still waiting for an example of an English man who won a seat in Scotland or a Scottish man who won an election in England. Please don't talk about Tony Blair again, he is an English man and his origins were/are easily traceable. lol you dey mind him ? hes even supporting your argument that region of origin matters all over the world, no matter how developed a country is let alone Nigeria pre independence. |

EzeUche: Are these Yorubas really calling Igbos cowards?
Say that to the brave Igbo soldiers who sent over 500,000 Yoruba and Hausa soldiers to their graves while Nigerian soldiers targeted women and children. Yes, lets talk about that.
Nigerian military had more weapons while Biafrans had limited arms, but to send 500,000 soldiers to their graves is quite amazing!
And lets us not forget how Yoruba leaders went up to the north to thank the emirs for not targeting them before the outbreak of the civil war. Weak people. Getting on their knees and begging Jesus - Why do you people like to lie? Like really what is the point in making up stories . . . .? |

kettykings: @babapupa even the hausa fulanis ran from the East in the 60s and they still run anytime there is crises in the east like the jan 2006 cartoon riot retaliations in onitsha and the kaduna retaliation riots in 2004.
I don't think igbos are as cowardly as you presume, for them to evecuate their women and children during june 12 problem must have been to clear the way for OPC to finish nigerian soldiers instead OPC turned on innocent igbo business men in the most bewildering case of misplaced agression. And I keep wondering the same OPC did not kill any soldier despite the fact that it was soldiers that annulled june 12 elections ,imprisoned all yoruba generals , chased their Elites to exiles.
I keeo wondering what would have become of the yorubas if Abacha had not died . since when was abachas attack Yorubas Only - If you know your history Shehu Musa Yar'Adua died in Jail. Ken Saro Wiwa died also by the hands of abacha. While Ojukuwu was doing boy boy. abacha had deep hatred for hausa-fulanis. Hausas-fulanis did not say a word. Infact most people who were actually against Abacha were yorubas( those who died in jail or where exiled). Whos are the cowards again? When Ojukwu thought he was smart - he was just being a sissy. If you knew your history you would know OPC didnt exist during abachas regime and what ever agression(from Lagos thugs) could have been well placed considering that fact that igbos such as Ojukwu acted as a coward and sycophant - eating abachas left over- NOW HES EATING OUT OFF IBB's yansh ( He has no shame and hes considered a leader). ( That is even if its true that igbos were attacked in Lagos- we know igboS like to make up lies to feel relevant)I keep wondering to myself what would become of any other ethnic groups in Nigeria- If yorubas Like Obj, Wole Soyinka and co didnt advocate on their behalf because their own leaders have no sense of reasoning? Theres Ojukwu that fled the civil war to come back and support a fulani- the people that slaughtered his own people. There is Zik who was too busy trying to be a yoruba elite owambe parties and- etc . . . I wonder ohhhhhh and what is your point Hausa-fulanis fled from the newly formed OPC during the mushin riots in Lagos. |

bk/babe97: 8. Mr Azikiwe, Mr Saro-Wiwa and other notable Biafran figures flee Ojuku's hell hole! In an interview granted to the Times, Mr Azikiwe stated: ". . . aint no way I was gonna starve to death! Fucnk that!!! Plus, I was missing my Yoruba chics, them Ibo hos is just too muscular for my liking". Ojuku hates him from that day forth; he plans his death but only gets to kill Mr Saro-Wiwa a few years later!
9. Biafra is funcked! The "Army" and poplulation is demoralized! Theres no military uniform, boots or other equipment! The soldiers fight in flip-flops and are handed "one gun for 2 soldiers". Each soldier is given a bullet each! The population is starving while Ojuku and his chronies feed fat! Pictures emerge of Biafran kids with stomachs the sizes of Spalding Basketballs. Thanx to Ojuku and those lil, innocent, malnourished Ibo kids these pics are circulated around the world and adds to the stereotype the world already has of African kids. Thanx alot starving Ibo kids (1967-1970) Yoo thats crazy yo lol SEFAGO: Good documentation . . . but I think you are missing that part of history where Ojukwu refuses to accept food from western nations

Dede1: I am not surprise that certain trolls from the jungle called Nigeria would throttle to any length to twist history in order to ascribe unworthy accolade to impostors. I lived in Lagos for considerable years and never heard that Lagos was not capital of Nigeria but Lagos Island. What a condemnable fallacy.
From the so-called Lagos Island to Mainland, the federal ministry responsible for Lagos as a capital territory took charge. When it comes to citing National Stadium, National Theater, MMA, Industrial Estates, Parastatals, National Training Institutes and Infrastructures of international repute, Lagos, then capital of Nigeria and known today as Lagos State, was the domain of federal government of Nigeria.
I can not stop laughing at the jackasses that insist that Awolowo built everything in Lagos but Ibadan. It must be recalled that Ibadan was the capital of western region of Nigeria and Awolowo was premier for mere three years (3). In fact, if by any known chance that Awolowo, as premier of western region of Nigeria, accomplished all the feats few trolls would want us to believe, I say Awolowo is the greatest magician ever. However, the deplorable state of Ibadan, the regional capital and seat of Awolowo’s abrakatabra, vehemently refused to accept such unfounded fallacy. Have you being to Ibadan lately? youre not a lagosian so how would you know and what years did you live in LAGOS? Unless it was when Awolowo ruled the western government you wouldnt know what youre talking about. |

^^^ answer my question you said Ojukwu father owned half of Lagos- EzeUche: Everyone knows that Ojukwu's father was one of the RICHEST men in AFRICA.
And the RICHEST man in Nigeria.
So shut up and stop trying to be a history revisionist.
Dumb a ss Yoruba. Africa: The Nigerian Millionaires
Peanuts & Petroleum. Even before Britain withdrew five years ago, Nigeria had a flourishing trade, exporting peanuts, cotton, palm kernels and cocoa and importing in exchange manufactured goods, foods and tobacco The first native millionaires made their money by competing with the white man for his trade. Among Nigeria's richest businessmen is Alhaji Sanusi Dantata 46, who buys and ships much of the rich Kano region's peanut crop. Dantata's agents last year bought 84,000 tons from small farmers, paid with traditional handfuls of coin counted out in dusty village squares. Sir Odumegwu Ojukwu 66, knighted shortly before independence, started off by importing dried fish for resale to the nonfishing Nigerians then decided to ship the fish inland himself instead of leaving the job to others. He also amassed the country's largest fleet of "mammy wagons," the trucks that carry Nigerians (including market women, which gives the trucks their name) from place to place.
In today's new Nigeria, businessmen are more likely to succeed by producing new goods or services. Sir Mobolaji Bank-Anthony, 59, known as "The Black Englishman" for his impeccable manners and imperturbable air, began by importing cuckoo clocks and marble statues. He now controls or owns part of ten companies, including a tanker fleet and a charter airline. Emmanuel Akwiwu, 43, earned law degrees at Cambridge; returning home just as Nigeria's oil boom began he organized a company that now has 70 vehicles, hauls oil rigs and supplies for British Petroleum Ltd. Chief Shafi Lawal Edu, 54, who is president of Lagos' chamber of commerce, has built a fleet of eight oil tankers. He owns a silver-blue Rolls-Royce, but usually drives around in a Mercedes—thinks it is less ostentatious.
No Need to Clash. Many Nigerian businessmen have taken advantage of the novel opportunities that inevitably accompany broadening prosperity. Chief Timothy Adeola Odutola, 63, a onetime farmer, developed a business to produce bicycle tires for the growing army of bikes, has done so well that he is adding a $1,700,000 plant, plans eventually to harvest his own rubber from his 5,000-acre plantation. A former office worker, Ade Tuyo, 63, cast around for a business that would have 'first priority in people's spending" opened a bakery that today has four shops and makes 115 products. The firm's unusual name—De Facto Works Ltd.—was shrewdly chosen by Tuyo to impress Nigerian bankers with the fact that he was seriously in business
Bayo Braithwaite, 36, one of Nigeria's younger businessmen, left a British insurance company to found a firm that would write life insurance on Nigerians which the British underwriters avoided. So successful has Braithwaite been that his African Alliance Insurance Co Ltd occupies a six-story Lagos home office and has 300 bush-beating agents. Braithwaite lives in an elegant house in suburban Ikoyi, where glass and concrete are deliberately intermixed with African folk art to prove that "the two need never clash."
So, it is, too, with Nigerian business. The Nigerians feel that they and their onetime white masters need never clash. "The time is coming," says Timothy Udutola, "when we will produce more than we can consume and we will have to look outside Nigeria for markets" Against that time, Nigeria is seeking joint ventures in Europe and the U.S., has also concluded negotiations for eventual associate membership in the European Common Market. Already it exports more to the Market than to its old master, Britain.
