lol funny comments-

Katsumoto:
Here you go again with your usual unbalanced argument. AD as a party was finished in 2003. Case in point, PDP winning all the Southwest states except for Lagos. Ndigbo also voted along regional lines except in the elections that there were no Igbo candidates. Igbo candidates won in the East in all elections except in 1993, 1999, 2003, and 2007 when there were no credible Igbo candidates. You mentioned Atiku; when did Atiku contest for the presidency? Also why was Zik trying to be the premier in the West? Were the Yoruba people lacking credible leadership that an Igbo man would try to be the leader of the Western region? Did a Northerner try to be a leader in any region other than his own? Did a Yoruba man try to be the leader of the Eastern region.

You guys should stop this moronic argument about carpet-crossing. What southern unity are you talking about? when was the south united? The question is, what was chasing Zik in the East that he was not just interested in it?
First he wanted to be the leader of the western region and then he voted against complete autonomy in 1957, instead choosing to wait three years for the North to be ready so that he could be the ceremonial president serving under a man who was not his equal in any sphere of life.
I would Love to know the answer for these questions- Onlytruth, Eze, 006 or any igbo please answer.

This is before Nigeria became One.

A Good airline when it was run partly by Virgin Atlantic but it looks like the airline is heading for the scrap yard just like the former Nigeria Airways. dumb, est shiot I ever saw on NL- Kase Lawal, Aliko Dangote, Bayo Ogunlesi, Femi Otedola,- All of whom are mentioned in Times Magazine and Forbes. Mike Adenuga is doing well also.

sjeezy8,

A Northerner would never vote for a Muslim from the south so you must be smokin some strong Igbo. The reason being is that they do not see Yoruba Muslims as real Muslims, but as Pseudo-Muslims.

The north will not be happy until one of them is President again. Not some Yoruba Muslim. grin
lol ok- what ever floats your boat but when Mko Abiola contested for presidency - he won.

The North made it possible for MKO Abiola to win the 1993 presidential election, even though he never became president. Abiola's victory was possible because he worked relentlessly to win the confidence of the North. Abiola united the North for his own purpose and it worked very well for him. The North drew up most of his manifestoes for him. He even reached across both parties. He defeated Bashir Tofa, his opponent, in his own home state of Kano, and, even though his was a Muslim/Muslim ticket, he got more votes in Plateau State than in his own Ogun State.
About fashola

Making this appeal in Lagos, the chairman, Berger Hausa Community, Alhaji Sanni Abubakar,

Appealing to all Lagosians to embrace peace and unity as the nation gradually marches to 2011, Alhaji Abubakar said: “Many political leaders have already been talking about 2011. To show you the humility about Fashola, the man has not spoken out rather he has remained focused on the good work he is doing. I want the governor, not only to run for a second term in 2011, but I also pray that one day he will become the president of Nigeria. “I want Fashola to become the president of this nation so that he can repeat the wonders he is doing in Lagos to cover the entire country. I passionately pray to Allah to make Fashola Nigeria’s president one day,” he declared.
YOU think that a southern muslim cant be president but history and also facts plus the demographics of Nigeria shows other wise.

I want Jonathan to be president tho in 2011. I want to state that Fashola has a good record, which is why he can win in Nigeria and not because he is a yoruba, he should be president because he is the most realistic thing in Nigeria Now.

Most people forget he is a muslim or a southerner - good governance.

I hope my Igbo brothers will read this thread.People are just trying very hard to re-write history.Awolowo selected Umeadi on Merit and not QAuota system which still tears Nigeria down till today.
They will say otherwise but its ok sha, they are the ones in denial- because If we talk of tribal politics and quota system,  the yoruba arent counted out of Nigeria in a free and fair election-

Im yet to see any southerner who has a chance beat Fashola. The northerner are against the idea of a christian presidency but welcome the Idea of a southern muslim Like Tinubu, Fashola Mko abiola, Dimeji bankole, Oshiomole(edo) Oyofo(edo)Jimoh Ibrahim who have support in the north, middle and south.

With the way Nigeria is- I dont see anything changing Im waiting for a southern muslim to step up and correct things.

The poster is NOT AN "Yoruba" he is an Ijaw.

and the Times new magazaine isnt own by yoruba people its own by whites. lol

The writer wrote some nice things about igbos and he also wrote some nice things about Awolowo. The Times magazaine wrote some nice things about igbos and some nice things about yorubas.

Why do some people have selective reading.

Zik was good for One Nigeria - Great which i can give him credit he is a nationalist.
But he was VERRRRRRRY stu-pid not to Immediately seperate the middle belt from the North which is why the Emirs of Nigeria so much Power. I dont know what he was thinking. lIke really

One Nigeria is great but giving the north so much power was DUMB. If anything it could have been worked out withing the south- Zik threw it all away.

anyways Im ok with Nigeria the way it is today aside from Minor stuvs.

Dont be silly, this topic was made to mock your self-serving selves. Wetin concern me with Awolowo- na that I go chop?
abioooo wtf most young yorubas dont carry Awolowo or Obj on their freakin heads like these clowns do for Ojukwu and co . . . wetin concern us jare- lol Awolowo did his thing during his years- thats all i can say Im not the type to study his freakin life or want to emulate him.

I didnt even know this topic was going to be made outta what I posted. You see all these self praising goats in the other threads are talking  BULL SHIOT NOW.

Awolowo during his time was cream of the crop- I give it to him

But it is the rabble-rousing Zik who may wind up running the show. Last year he journeyed north to the Sardauna's palace with a proposal to work together to defeat Awolowo. The Sardauna was happy to cooperate, for he bitterly hates Awolowo, who for years has urged that the powers of the northern emirs be reduced and is trying to split off the large non-Moslem "Middle Belt" from the Northern Region and make it a separate state.
Thats real politicking right there- So in general it was Zik who solidified the "fake North" and put the middle belt under northern Hegemony, which is Why Nigeria is where it is too day. Zik na real Ode

Sunday Vanguard was reliably informed that once Awolowo chose Umeadi as his running mate, Obasanjo sent words to Awolowo to change that choice.  Obasanjo’s argument was that the choice made by UPN did not in any way take into cognizance Nigeria’s peculiar ethno-tribal balancing.  But Awolowo and the UPN refused to shift their ground.  Their counter position was that there was need to ensure that merit was not sacrificed on the altar of federal character or quota system.

But the NPN, peopled by politicians whose main advantage bore all the signs of pragmatism ended up with Alhaji Usman Aliyu Shehu Shagari, from Shagari Village in Sokoto State.  The party then went all the way down, as if slightly diagonally to the left across the Niger River, to Anambra State to choose Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme.

Still disputed in some quarters, the NPN won the 1979 presidential elections.  Though Awolowo went all the way to the Supreme Court, he lost to the calculation of a constitutional provision which states that whoever would emerge President and Commander-in-Chief of the Nigeria Armed Forces needed two thirds of the total votes cast in two thirds of the states of the Nigerian Federation.  This provision itself lends itself to the ethos of national spread and, by implication, the need for participatory mandate
If Awolowo was such a tribalist why the HELL did he pick an igbo as his vice- On his part he messed up and should have gone with a northern muslim.

No southerner has more support in the north than northerners like Buhari, Babangida and Atiku. Also those northerners have more southern supporters than southerners have northern supporters. Stop kidding yourself.
The key to Nigeria's presidency remains in block votes from populated areas. And we know the populated areas of Nigeria.
lol im actually laughing aks yourself how did MKO abiola win? Northerners obviously felt safe with him as he is a muslim (like fashola). He lost in the SE won in the SW won in the middle belt and won in the core north.

Not to mention he ran against a Kano hausa( Bashir Tofa) while Mko abiolas VP was Kanuri.

when it boils down to it a muslim southerner has a better chance at wining in Nigeria than a christain and thats just tribe aside.

Im out tho Jonathan for president!!!!!! hes not the best candidate but the Safest.

yea Jonathan should rule - hes not the best candidate hes the safest One.

PoliticsRe: Kalu Seeks Ndigbo’s Support For Jonathan by sjeezy8: 9:52pm On Jun 02, 2010
Onlytruth:
I really would like to believe the bolded, but I think that Jonathan can help clarify things. That guy has achieved more for Nigeria within few months in office than the years of Yar adua (and even OBJ). So, it is very easy to support him. I remember very well during Obasanjo's failed constitutional conference when the debate about zoning was raging. The north insisted it must be on the basis of north and south, while the south east and south south canvassed for a geopolitical arrangement for zoning. The north being in power (never believe that Yoruba ruled through Obasanjo, they didn't undecided)  had their way and even Obasanjo could not change it which is why he picked Yar adua after his 8 year tenure. So, when elements in the north argue that Obasanjo deliberately picked Yar adua in order to expeditiously return power to the south, they seem to have a case.

I really think that Jonathan's presidency presents us with a rare opportunity -when none of the major tribes are in power- to address things like zoning once and for all. Of course it must not stop at zoning, it must also address things like quota system and federal character. Cherry picking will not work this time. So I say Jonathan should take on ALL these issues head-on. Only after then can anyone talk of a sensible resolution.
Are you sound and well? Like really LOL - what in the last 4 months has Jonatahan actually achieved? NOTHING!

In fact hes not the best candidate for the presidency in the South. Everyone is just supporting him cause hes an Ijaw and im sure he can calm these militants down( who are mainly Ijaw). If anything better politicians are those Like Fashola,Donald Duke, Tinubu, Chime guy helll maybe even Dele momodu could be better than Jonathan.

Jonathan is mediocre guy  and an idiot- and is only there to keep Nigeria One. Who will really vote for Jonathan hes lucky hes the one in PDP, president,  and the one conducting elections, hes contesting in lol so he'll win anyway. So they basically Gave it to him cause this militant problem. and they dont want the SS to secede like they did for the SW.

Onlytruth:
You don't seem to realize that the west will not smell power again for a loooooooooooooooooooooooong time in Nigeria. Keep dreaming. The politics of Nigeria is becoming interesting.
lol who cares- you think after this fiasco and jonathan becoming president the north will stick to zoning HAHAHA funny Guy.

Lemmi tell you Fashola can win in Nigeria with a northern VP ANY DAY.  Ive heard soo many Northerners say they want him as president in the near future.

So you are now a PDP member, right? Nigerians will never cease to amaze me. . . .  It is quite ironic that most southerners are now PDP members just because their brother ascended to the helm of Nigerian affairs , the same PDP they are calling the worst thing that ever happened Nigeria. This scenario playing out has also exposed the tribalistic tendencies of most Nigerians, especially how it has been turned into anti - north sentiment.

In referrence to the issue of the agreement, it was simply based on North - south rotation. However, we should always try to clarify that this is a political party's gentleman agreement and not Nigerian constitution.
yes Southerners are PDP members when it befits them ODE

I want a NDeltan to be president so im PDP for now- in 2015 ohhhhh im AC - FASHOLA FOR PRESIDENTT!!!!!!

To be frank, the article captured what has been my frustration with Nigeria and what I believed was going on in Nigeria. I’ve never read the author’s articles nor do I know his/her ethnic group; but when his/her articled captures what I honestly believe is wrong with Nigeria, I wouldn’t hesitate to praise its sincerity.

On a personal level, my siblings will tell you not to bring a case before me if you’re wrong because I’ll never support you no matter how close we are.
ok Jare but like I said the article could be written about any ethnic group. even Ijaw see

sjeezy8:
"If the Ijawnation had what the Palestinians have…the federal government and the international community would be on their knees begging for summits, memoranda of understanding, peace and peace treaties…For the Ijaws therefore, the time has come to rethink her relationship with Nigeria; to rethink her place within the federating state of Nigeria; to take stock of her lot since October 1, 1960. If Nigeria and the rest of the country don't give a care about the Ijaws - why should the Ijaws care about what happens to Nigeria?" - S.O Abidde

And, as of June 2009, about 70 percent of the oil wells are onshore and another 30 percent are off-shore. Offshore or onshore, more than 70 percent of all oil reservoirs are located on/inside the Ijaw territory. On account of this, the Ijaw own the most lucrative and the most coveted land and waterways in Nigeria. That they have access to the Atlantic Ocean is also a coveted advantage. For these and other reasons, whatever political settlements that is to be reached, must be reached, principally, through and to the satisfaction of the Ijaw.

The Ijaw ethnic nationality never wanted to be part of post-colonial Nigeria. The feeling of forced-marriage is still widespread in some enclaves. According to Lindsay Barrett, “The Ijaws already showed signs of being unwilling partners in the post-colonial Nigerian state during the struggle for independence. Their leaders complained loudly that they were marginalized in the affairs of the Eastern Region which was dominated by the Igbos. The Ijaws also raised the alarm over the developmental and service deficiencies they were inheriting from the colonial period. Their argument was so persuasive that in 1958 Sir Henry Willinks of the Colonial Office in London was sent to study their grievances and make recommendations for redress prior to the granting of independence, which was coming in two years’ time. The Willinks Commission largely vindicated the complaints of the leaders of the Niger Delta.”

During the Nigerian Civil War, they sacrificed their young men and women for One Nigeria. They believed in the unity, the security and the prosperity of Nigeria. But as it turned out, Nigeria has a sinister agenda towards the Ijaw and the Niger Deltans. It is evident, now evident, that Nigeria’s policy is to conquer them. The Ijaw have the land and the waterways, the natural resources, the strategic location and the population. Such wealth is more than enough for the powers that be to want to dominate and conquer them. But the Ijaw are no fools. The younger generation of Ijaw will as soon walk away if Nigeria continues on this path.

To the extent that we are citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, our inalienable rights and dignity must be respected; our farmlands and waterways treated with utmost care; our basic needs and security guaranteed; and our rights to full and equal political and economic participation assured; more indigenous Ijaw states created; and profits from the sale of oil distributed to our satisfaction. It is that simple.

PoliticsRe: Igbo: A People In Search Of A Leader: Further Commentary by sjeezy8: 9:07pm On Jun 02, 2010
@sefago not only that jare-

MAYBE THEY SHOULD AGREE WITH THIS ALSO:

sjeezy8:
He towered above his contemporaries. Not only that -- all the leaders we’ve had since his exit from government and politics have been political dwarfs. One would be hard-pressed to name a political leader in Nigeria -- since the second-half of the twentieth century -- who did more for his people and for his country than Awolowo.

Awolowo was not a President. He was the Premier of the Western Region of Nigeria from October 1, 1954 until October 1, 1960. Nonetheless, his accomplishments dwarf the combined achievements of the last five heads of government Nigeria has had. And so from now until eternity his contribution to Nigeria’s socioeconomic and political life will be remembered and appreciated by discerning minds. As a federal minister under General Yakubu Gowon, he saved Nigeria from self immolation.
So they have to agree its from the same writer-

lol Not to knock his article but Everything he said can be said about any ethnic group. Meaning every ethnicity makes Nigeria what it is Even Hausas-Fulanis.

Would there even be a "Nigeria" without the Igbo Hausa yoruba or Ijaw etc huh . . . probably NOT.

I dont know what to say about the writer because some of his articles or opinions contradict themselves- I guess one of those writer who writes on controversial things - for attraction.

About Awolowo
He truly was a truly great man. Because of his brilliance and strength of character, he was very much misunderstood and envied; and because most couldn’t measure up to his expectation and greatness, they vilified him. If you were not alive when Awolowo lived, or if you were not fortunate to have met him, well, let me tell you this: He was graceful. He was charismatic. He was purposeful. Most of all he had a clear vision of what he wanted for Nigeria and for humanity. Above all else, he was a nice and decent human being! Oh AWOLOWO!!

Within the context of Nigerian, and indeed within African politics, Awolowo had no equal. He towered above his colleagues. To truly appreciate his greatness, all you need do is to take a look at the men and women who now dot, and have dotted our public estate and public space. Do so and you’d be hard-pressed to name a political leader in Nigeria, in the last 50 years, who did more for his people and for his country than Awolowo. In him we lost the brightest star we ever had and may have to wait another seventy years for a man like him
About the Ijaws
The overwhelming majority of Niger Deltans, especially the Ijaw, are peace-loving. PoliticsRe: Why Can't Lagos And Ogun States Be Merged? by sjeezy8: 5:17am On Jun 02, 2010
Much less to talk of the stupidity of southerners- why is any sensible person from the South of Nigeria talking about merging states- when with the current  amount states in Nigeria, the North still has More- and arent thinking of merging any  Zamfara state with Sokoto or Kebbi.

Even if the states in the North "die off" with no FG allowance- as long as the North has more states than the south- which puts them at an advantage they are OK.

When will southern Nigeria have sense. This shouldnt even be a topic unless Both the NE and NW merge  6 states into THREE(which they wont do) because Northerners know as long as they have more states than the south, they have upper hand in senate seats, reps seat, votes etc . . .
