You might say its achaic but how is it different feom what is practised in the brittish monarchy.. queen elizabeths father had no male kids... she wasnt supposed to be on the throne... she was supposed to be married to another royal family.... but since the heirloom and throne must continue she took the seat.. a man came into the house, they had kids... her kids bears her fathers name instead of her husbands name...

Personally if i dont have male kids.. i rather adopt one, give him my name.. than give the heirloom to daughtera who would marry someone else, thereby changing names...
