The Pretoria prophet who allegedly ordered members of his congregation to feed on live snakes has been released on R1,500 bail. Times Live reported that the charges were laid by the Tshwane SPCA and that the controversial preacher would probably appear in the Ga-Rankuwa magistrate’s court on Monday on charges of cruelty to animals. The SPCA confirmed last week that they intended to open a case of animal cruelty against him. The preacher from Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, told inspectors he does not keep animals but picks them up whenever he finds them. He even admitted to feeding lizards to his flock. Images of Prophet Penuel Mnguni of End Times Disciples Ministries showing him feeding a live snake to one of his followers went viral last week. The prophet allegedly told members of his church that the snakes would taste like chocolate. - See images at: http://www.breakingnews234.com/2015/07/the-prophet-that-feed-worshippers-live.html

‘The Church has got no mandate from the Lord to pronounce on scientific matters.’ In that one sentence, Cardinal Pell puts his finger on what is wrong with Laudato Si‘, Pope Francis’s encyclical on the environment. In that document, Francis waded into an argument about climate change and took sides. Moreover, he gave the impression that he was speaking for all Catholics when he did so; and, if by any chance he wasn’t, errant faithful should fall into line. In an interview in Thursday’s Financial Times, the Prefect of the Secretariat for the Economy stepped out of line. See above. It was a brave thing to do: Pell’s wholesale reform of the Vatican’s finances is making him plenty of enemies as it is, and now he’s even more vulnerable to attack. Why take the risk? Because, I suspect, Cardinal Pell considers Laudato Si’ to be the most ill-judged encyclical of modern times. As the New York Times columnist Ross Douthat put it, it is ‘catastrophist’ not just in its climate science but also in its attitude towards modern technology in general: Its catastrophism also leaves this pope more open to empirical criticism. For instance, he doesn’t grapple sufficiently with evidence that the global poor have become steadily less poor under precisely the world system he decries – a reality that has complicated implications for environmentalism. But let’s stick with climate change. We’ve moved on, thankfully, from the days when climate scepticism was represented by statistically illiterate Right-wing culture warriors opposed by scientific zealots who were happy to hide inconvenient data to make their case. But the science isn’t ‘settled’; it’s just that the debate has become more sophisticated. Recently I was talking to a libertarian journalist trained in statistics, a rare beast indeed. I asked him about global warming, expecting a denunciation of Lefty alarmism. Instead, he replied: ‘I just don’t go there – I don’t know enough’, and poured scorn on amateur commentators of every persuasion. With Laudato Si‘, Pope Francis joined the ranks of those amateurs - See more at: http://www.breakingnews234.com/2015/07/cardinal-george-pell-questions-popes.html#sthash.s5X6nJe4.dpuf |
Against the backdrop of criticisms that he has been too slow since he assumed office on May 29, President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, begged Nigerians for patience, saying he has been working meticulously to tackle the many national challenges which he identified. In his message to commemorate this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebrations marking the end of the Ramadan Fast, President Buhari stated that though there were heaps of misdeeds of the past administration, his government would ensure that every wrong of the past was corrected. He added that stamping out corruption still remained one of the cardinal objectives of his administration. According to him, there is much work to be done and every step would be correctly taken to ensure that there would not be “business as usual.” He, however, appealed to Nigerians to continue to pray for his government, saying that he would not fail them. His words: “I remain wholly committed to giving the required leadership towards undoing the wrongs of the past, ensuring that Nigeria truly begins to unlock its great potential and that the benefits of our immense national resources are shared and enjoyed by all, not just by successive cabals of corrupt leaders and their cronies. “I was aware of your high expectations when I assumed office and I reassure you, my fellow citizens, that since my inauguration on May 29, this year, I have been working with utmost dedication to meticulously plan and tackle the many national challenges which we identified and promised to resolve. “To succeed, however, I need your continued support, understanding and patience. “I fully understand and share the thirst of my long-suffering compatriots for corruption-free government institutions that work efficiently to deliver visible development for the benefit of all citizens. “I also share the feelings of those who think that we should be moving faster. But I urge them and all Nigerians to trust that my commitment to real and positive change in our nation is as firm as ever. “There is indeed much work to be done, but we must do it well and carefully to ensure that the great opportunity which we now have is not lost to the “business as usual” group who selfishly or shortsightedly prefer a status quo that panders to their personal or group interests. “The adverse effects of years of rot, corruption, inept and bad governance on our nation are immense, but certainly not insurmountable if we all resolve now to place the well-being of our nation above all other considerations and work whole-heartedly with the present administration to achieve greater peace and security across the nation, and reposition our country for faster economic development and progress.” President Buhari congratulated the Islamic faithful who successfully completed their Ramadan fast, urging them to embrace self-denial for the growth of the country. “I greet and felicitate with you all, especially our citizens of the Islamic faith on this auspicious occasion of the 2015 Eid-el-Fitr celebrations. “I congratulate all those who have successfully completed the Ramadan fast in keeping with the injunction of our Creator. “Although we have come to the end of this year’s month of Ramadan, I believe that a greater acceptance by Nigerians of its key lessons of self-denial and sacrifice will serve our dear country well as we strive to overcome our present challenges, undo the damage done by years of bad governance and accelerate the pace of national development. “Reviewing our dire circumstances and the many missed opportunities of the past, some commentators and observers have said that this is Nigeria’s last chance to get its act together and finally begin to fulfill its God-given potential for greatness. “While not going that far, I certainly believe that now, more than ever before, our country needs greater self-denial, sacrifice and patriotism from all of its citizens, if we are to quickly recover from our numerous problems and start moving in a positive direction. “This current period of our life as a nation offers us a great opportunity to break from the vicious triangle of insecurity, corruption and under-development. We must collectively resolve to seize this opportunity and unite to confront our problems”, the president said. - See more at: http://www.breakingnews234.com/2015/07/buhari-begs-nigerians-to-be-patient.html |
It’s quite possibly every woman’s nightmare. Mexican popstar Paty Navidad has become an instant Twitter hit following an unfortunate accident on live television. In a Youtube video, the singer can be seen performing “Viva México” supported by her Mariachi band on the country’s “Despierta América” program. A few minutes in and the camera captures a suspicious white object falling from underneath her dress and onto the floor in front of her. Unfazed, Paty continues her performance. The singer has since confirmed that the mysterious item was in fact a sanitary towel, prior to meeting a barrage of criticism on Twitter, mainly from male fans. “I don’t need wings to fly I have my imagination, and a good sense of humor thank God,” the singer tweeted. “Im not a boxer, I’m a fighter and I never throw in the towel,” the singer later tweeted - See video at: http://www.breakingnews234.com/2015/07/video-shock-as-mexican-singers-sanitary.html#sthash.eD2sTPdz.dpuf

ISIS has released yet another barbaric video in which two suspected thieves are doused in red antiseptic solution before their left foot and right hand is chopped off with a meat cleaver. Islamic State sympathisers who shared the grotesque footage online claim 'two armed thieves attacked herders and stole livestock and cars', supposedly in the Syrian city of Homs. This latest display of cruelty comes just one day after the terror group shared a video of a man being thrown to his death from a tall building in Iraq for supposedly being gay. The four minute-long propaganda video begins with a bearded jihadi announcing the man's name and crimes to a crowd of hundreds of men and young boys. He is escorted to a small table in the middle of the public square where a militant ties two wires tightly around his foot and ankle, before pouring antiseptic solution on his foot. Using a shining meat cleaver, he then chops it off just past the heel. WARNING GRAPHIC CONTENT - See video at: http://www.breakingnews234.com/2015/07/video-isis-militants-use-meat-cleaver.html WARNING GRAPHIC CONTENT The suspected thief does not seem to have been anaesthetised, nor does he look in an extreme amount of pain when his foot is lobbed off, prbably due to shock. His foot is quickly bandaged before the same, sickening procedure is repeated on his right hand.

The Islamic State has reportedly beheaded two women in Syria, which is said to be the first time Isis executed women in the gruesome manner. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based monitoring group reporting abuse in Syria, has said that Isis beheaded two women after accusing them of 'sorcery', AFP reported. The women were beheaded along with their husbands in Deir al-Zor province over the last two days. The Islamic State accused the women of performing 'witchcraft and sorcery'. "ISIS executed two women by beheading them in Deir al-Zor province, and this is the first time the Observatory has documented women being killed by the group in this manner," Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the monitoring group told AFP. - See more at: http://www.breakingnews234.com/2015/06/isis-beheads-two-women-in-syria-for.html |

Tunisian hotel staff formed human shield in heroic move to save tourists. The Muslim staff members told the terrorist: 'You must kill us first' The gunman, who openly declared he was targeting Western tourists during the killing spree, was also told: 'You will have to get past us, but we're Muslim. Many have spoken of playing dead in a bid to avoid being 'finished off' by the gunman as he indiscriminately shot down dozens of tourists. Angela Evans told how she played dead as he was 'inches' away from her. He was so close she heard him reloading as she lay motionless in the sand Cheryl Mellor, from Cornwall, also played dead after her husband was shot. SHOOTER ISIS posted a photo of the alleged attacker, whom Tunisian authorities identified as 24-year-old Saif Al-Deen Al Rezgui from the town of Gaafour, about 100 miles northeast of Sousse. Rezgui had earlier landed on the shore on a boat dressed as a tourist, before pulling out an assault rifle hidden in a parasol. He then stormed the beach, gunning down tourists and throwing hand grenades into the crowds. In all, 38 people were killed, with the atrocity claiming the lives of 15 Britons - although that figure may yet rise. Al Rezui was not known to have problems in Gaafour and was seen as an introvert who came from a poor family, police said. They added that his younger brother died in 2010 when struck by lightning, a death they believe may have affected Al Rezgui. Initial reports Friday about the attack suggested there had been three gunmen, but a Tunisian Interior Ministry spokesman later said they were aware of only one and that he had been killed. Chile defender Gonzalo Jara has been banned for the rest of the Copa America after he"inserted a finger into Edinson Cavani's anus", it has been reported. The 29-year-old Mainz defender, who has previously played for West Brom, Brighton and Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest, was caught on TV provoking Uruguay striker Cavani following a confrontation between the two. After referee Sandro Ricci spoke to the pair to try and dissolve the feud, Jara went back towards Cavani and shockingly tried to put his finger in Cavani’s anus, with the Paris Saint-Germain responding by glancing the face of Jara. Despite the little contact between Cavani’s hand and Jara’s chin, the Chile international flung himself theatrically to the floor, and Ricci issued a second yellow card to Cavani having already booked him in the first half for a foul on Arturo Vidal, meaning Cavani suffered the ignominy of being sent-off a year to the day after Luis Suarez bit Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during the 2014 World Cup. Source: http://www.breakingnews234.com/2015/06/copa-america-2015-gonzalo-jara-caught.html Cavani won’t face a Copa America suspension given that Uruguay went on to lose the game 1-0 and suffer quarter-final elimination, but it appears that Jara’s tournament is also over. South American journalist Juan Arango has reported that Jara will be banned for the remainder of the tournament for his actions, with official confirmation set to come later today over whether Jara will face disciplinary action.

A statement by Omirin’s Special Adviser on Media, Wole Olujobi, said the report was mischievous, lacking in substance and unfounded. The lawmakers said they were shocked that such a sensitive report could be published based on rumour, blackmail and outright lie. “It is shocking that the medium chose not to believe us but overzealously believe in the purported sources that thrive in falsehood, lies and propaganda. “The publication in one breath said his investigation revealed that the lawmakers had been paid, yet he reported that both Fayose and the lawmakers did not confirm the report as they refused to talk to him. The government said in a statement issued on Sunday by the State Commissioner for Finance, Toyin Ojo: “We would have remained silent in deference to the agreement reached at the last Monday meeting in Akure that all parties should maintain silence on the outcome of the meeting, especially because the lawmakers said they do not want their leaders to know the outcome of the meeting. However, since the lawmakers have chosen not to abide by this agreement by first issuing press statement to deny and reveal what was discussed in the meeting, and now going to the press to say that they have not received any payment, the government does not have any other option than to tell the public the truth and set the records straight. “The government is by this press statement putting the records straight since the money paid to the lawmakers belong to Ekiti people. “The payment was made in cheques because the lawmakers pleaded that their accounts should not be credited directly so as to avoid the banks from making deductions for loans taken from the bank and... - See more at: http://www.breakingnews234.com/2015/06/apc-lawmakers-collected-cheques-because.html

Sepp Blatter has been re-elected as FIFA President, and will serve his fifth term from 2015-2019. The voting was conducted on Friday in Zurich by members of the FIFA organization. Blatter defeated Prince Ali of Jordan at the 65th FIFA Congress. With Prince Ali’s defeat, Blatter will continue his role as FIFA President and will embark on a campaign to restore trust in FIFA especially after this week’s arrests of several FIFA officials on corruption charges. In the first round, Blatter won the majority of votes in the first and only round of voting by 133-73. It wasn’t a two-thirds majority, however, which means that a second round of voting would be required to determine the winner. But with Prince Ali of Jordan 60 votes behind Sepp Blatter, Prince Ali decided to withdraw from the race, which means that Sepp Blatter has been elected President of FIFA defying widespread calls for his resignation and a U.S.-Swiss anti-corruption investigation that has rocked the world football body to its core. Blatter won out again reformist challenger Jordan’s Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, who many- including the UK’s Prime Minister David Cameron and UEFA President Michel Platini had hoped would allow the business of reforming FIFA to being anew. What had already been a disputed election- Blatter backtracked on an earlier vow not to seek a fifth term- became a full-blown crisis Wednesday when several top FIFA officials were arrested -Source: http://www.breakingnews234.com/2015/05/sepp-blatter-wins-fifa-presidential.html#sthash.Dkgcd8x3.dpuf

Remember the over 270 women and children brought to Maikohi camp on May 2nd, after their rescue from Boko Haram camp in the Sambisa forest. They have been taken from the camp in the north-eastern city of Yola and flown to an unspecified military facility because the government is said to be worried that some women may have been radicalised while in captivity. Camp officials said there were suspicions some of the women had been communicating with militants. They will be housed at the military facility under the Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Programme which is part of the government's so-called "soft approach" to combating terrorism. The women will receive medical help and support as part of their rehabilitation process, the BBC has learnt. Backed by soldiers from Chad, Cameroon and Niger, the Nigerian army has managed to liberate a number of towns from the militants since they launched a military operation in February. However, sporadic attacks and violence have continued, with tens killed in the last 3 weeks alone. - Source: http://www.breakingnews234.com/2015/05/women-rescued-from-boko-haram-sambisa.html |
