Thanks for all your responses to this post.I really appreciate your candid views on the above subject matter.However I am not happy that this seemingly innocent thread is generating friction between Nairalanders.

We are all entitled to our individual opinions and don't need to force it on other people.I mean if I could force my friend to see things from my own perspective then there wont be a need for the thread.

Secondly,I think that we need to move past the era of calling people namesetc,etc, We need to stop using such words honestly!Calling somebody a loser does not in any way make you a better/intelligent/well informed/exposed person!

nice thread as there is no need for alarm as regards to  those stockbroking firms that will not be able to need the new capital base this is becuase shares bought under their auspices is not really in their custody per say.

they are lodged in your cscs account which is with the central securities clearing system(more like the official registrars of the nse)

the only way you can lose your funds is if you have cash in your stockbroking account.and if you are still not confident that your present stockbroker will scale the capitalization hurdle just request for a transfer of stock form.

with reference to ur first question the 50k represents the actual worth of the share while quoted price is the is the market price the difference between the two is the share prenuim and secondly if you bought 30,000 units of intercont bank shares @13.50 kobo all you need to do is get the current market price and multiply by the total number of unit you purchased which translates to aprox 75k(using an average market price of 25naira)

i went thru all the replies to the post by ladapo and my advice is this:first and foremost thank GOD for the monthly income,remember to pay ur tithe if you r a xtian and put aside a little money in a savings account which can later be moved to a fixed deposit account once you can build it up to 100k because you will get more interest there and besides it can be liquidated anytime then put what you have left in investments-stocks,shares if you want to be an active investor or a good mutual fund if you are a passive investor.
afta a while diversify and put some money in real estate.this will help cushion against the volatility of the money and capital markets

I suggest that you go beyond dreaming and take a pen and piece of paper and put all your dreams to paper and set a deadline for yourself as to when they will be achieved, how you intend to do that and resources required.

I just checked out the networth site and i must say this as my own personal view.

Agreed that dangote is a rich entreprenuer but the true wealth of an individual is not determied by how much he/she is worth in dollars or gold bullion but rather how how much positive impact such a person has on the community.

Que.1-how much impact has dangote on Nigeria(apart from buying up all  our national legacies through syndicated loan facilities from banks) as an entity compared to oprah?

Secondly lets understand one thing: the way we calculate networth in nigeria is very different from how it is estimated abroad.

In Nigeria, networth includes both houses and cars which are liabilites while abroad your networth is determined through a detailed estimated market value of your assets.

Assets here refer to those productive resources that have a potential return on investment which include things like your trustfund,money in your retirement savings account,stock holding in companies, and not your holiday home or your fleet of cars or some fancy wardrobe.

Finally dangote is rich no doubt but I am of the opinion that oprah is far richer than him because if you are a regular viewer of the oprah show which is not by sponsored by any government,you will know that she has touched and changed the lives of many.

the recruitment process is as follows:afta the test you will be invited to bring your credentials and you will also fill a small personal data sheet and one or two questions will be asked like where you want to be in the next five yrs et.al

then the interview proper which is a dicey one coz you mite be asked any question.
afta this you will be invited for medicals and an intensive 3-month training programme.

now this is where you have to be serious because people get kicked out of training school for the smallest reason imaginable.

infact there was a time a whole training class was cancelled and 30 people sent home so you really need to be serious.

the past mark for the training school is 65% which means you must score an average of 65% in all your courses before you r eliglble to work for gtbank.

how do i know all of these? simple i went thru the same process!
