It appears the coat of gsd is described with different names in different circles, with descriptions like short, medium, long, double, standard, long & harsh, etc, etc! I can even imagine different kennel clubs may have different names as well.

The main thing here is that we all agree Khaleesi isn't long coated, so she's the other variety, whatever name we want to call it...

I read through the whole write-up(FCI gsd standard)...so enlightening.

Lonely days

Murphy and i have faced serious issues within just two years, Infact there came a time i even put Murphy up for adoption (even Nairalanders were very surprised seeing these pictures) and a lot of compliments and questions were asked.


Someone bought Murphy, my dog wasn't happy at all leaving home and i felt so guilty within myself, having lonely days through out without seeing Murphy . After two days, I returned the client's money and took Murphy home because money can't just buy love at all.

Murphy was round 1yr 3-5months when this happened.

Chelsea has always been our most independent dog. She rarely follows any of us around, well except we have something attractive with us. She's very much the opposite of Bella in that respect.

She'd often wander off on her own even when the other 3 dogs are having so much fun together. I used to think she was antisocial, but now I just see her as a dog that enjoys exploring her environment. Our compound now seems to be too small for this girl as she's almost always at the boundaries, longing to explore the world far beyond the 4 walls of her home.

Now just like Spike our CSO, Chelsea's protective instinct kicked in as she turned 6 months of age, and because she's always at the edges of a compound with a see-through gate and fence, she's very often the first one to notice any potential threat and sound the alarm bell, following which the CSO and the other 2 come charging along like raging bulls.

I pity any intruder that will mistaken cross that fence.

The context in which u use the bloodline is not wrong considering the fact that one of d parents is of another line. So one could say its of DDR bloodline.

what I am just trying to point out is that Bloodline is kinda deeper dan just lines, I do not know DDR bloodlines but I know that Bullet of household is sire to Tom of household, and Tom of house hold is your pup sire, since Bullet is the oldest generation I know of, its safe to say my pup is from the d DDR Bloodline of Bullet of household. I do not know if u re getting me, like d statement "blood is thicker dan water" and if DNA test or blood tests re taken on ur dog, d bloodline could be traced to bullet of household, that's all am trying to say.

am not trying to correct u or tell u that u re wrong, cos I know what u mean by DDR bloodline, afterall household is like one of d only DDR breeder I know of, hence most DDR in 9ja re of his dogs bloodline, safe to say "DDR bloodline" but if u wanna go deeper its wrong.
Take for instance, Someone asks you, what line of Gsds do u ve? you answer "I have DDR", the person responds " wow! I ve read so much about them, which of the bloodlines is ur pup from"

Please, DDR bloodline is the right term to use as I was referring to the bloodline of my dogs, their sire and their grand sire.

If you think it is wrong, please provide references that state that the phrase "DDR Bloodline" is not to be used.

not everything we see online is correct in FCI/SV I have never seen the word DDR bloodlines which actually says nothing about the ancestors but rather DDR/EAST GERMAN WORKING LINE I think DDR line would be more appropriate

U mean the CEO of Household kennel is wrong and so many renown DDR GSD breeders that mentioned DDR Bloodline in their web sites are all wrong?

simply put it is an animal's set of ancestors or pedigree, especially with reference to the desirable characteristics bred into it. bloodline is the pedigree of the dog not the style if yu know the bloodline there are some things to expect from the puppy that is particular to that bloodline

Thanks for your observation but these styles of GSD are called lines. For example, Working line, Showline, Czech line, DDR line etc.

I think this "FOLLOW FOLLOW" attitude is peculiar to the females.

Bella is a very clingy and playful pup...she follows me wherever I go irrespective of the weather (she doesn't care if it's raining heavily or the sun is at its hottest) and she's more often than not the instigator of play fights among the dogs.

The German Shepherd Dog is one breed regardless of the different bloodlines that exist within the breed.

I have owned showline GSDs in the past and I now own DDR working line GSDs. I can tell you from experience that they are the same breed and possess SIMILAR character. Only that the DDR working line GSDs have higher drives than their showline counterpart.

Though I am not an authority in German Shepherd breeding, I see nothing wrong in mixing a DDR German shepherd with working lines, Czech lines or even with showline dogs.

Presently, I do not have knowledge of any new DDR progeny been introduced into Nigeria. So what we have is the progeny from Household Kennel.
For people like Household kennel, Olisafancy, Rany4all, vincentjk, myself and others who are trying to keep the DDR bloodline alive in Nigeria, it is important to introduce other dogs not related to the existing DDR progeny to avoid problems of too much inbreeding.

No one dog breed can be said to be the best for security. All dog breeds bred for protection were bred for different types of protection.

Personally, I prefer the German Shepherd dog for security work with respect to the top qualities a guard dog should possess. These qualities may include: Companionship, train-ability, stability, alertness, cautiousness, athleticism, strength, speed and size.

German Shepherd dogs are one of the most popular personal protection and guard dog in the world.

My GSDs are always patrolling inside my compound when they are off leash and would always stand up to any intruder.

No matter the breed of dog you prefer for security, training is also key. OP I wish to advice that you add the Belgian Malinois, Rottweiler and Doberman Pinschers to your list.

In most cases, the working lines German Shepherds are usually smaller than Showline GSD, and they have very little angulation. They are primarily bred to have higher aggression, higher prey drive and higher pain tolerance than the Show lines German Shepherds.

Though the Working and Showlines are still similar in temperament, with the working line exhibiting higher drive and more intensity.

I read that the Working line German Shepherds also take longer time to mature.

Caesar is a mix of Working line (DDR bloodline) and Showline, while Khaleesi is a Working line(DDR bloodline).
