@Denzel: Yeah you're right. Just refreshed my memory on how the stuff works. I'm pretty sure you'd find this useful too:

Can you provide any proof that this laptop is yours? If you can then email me. You can find my email in the first post of this thread.

Deji, if his computer/laptop is a 64 bit architecture and he installs a 64bit windows 7 OS, the full 4Gb RAM would be recognised. He can even add more RAM, I have seen a laptop with 8Gb RAM fully recognised. It is only 32bit laptops that limit you to approx. 3.5Gb usable RAM even if you have 16Gb RAM on board.
It's actually ~3GB. Mine for instance shows 6.00GB (2.70 GB usable) There are many work-arounds for this but I don't need any of'em. It helps me reduce the amount of programs I'm running at a time smiley

@skydancer, one last question. If i roll back to factory settings and then upgrade to windows7 ultimate 64bit from home basic 64bit, would i have ma full RAM and all drivers working perfectly? Thanks for your help
Yes. You would have your full RAM back. cool But mind you, Ultimate is heavier than Basic. Though it's much better. cool

@Deji: This is the third time I've seen a quarter-baked reply from you. It's sorta abashing, sad

@skydancer, thanks for the reply, but, are you saying there is really nothing i can do to help the situation cuz i really dont like the old windows. besides, getting 64bit softwares seems kinda difficult in ma area. and if i want to do the recovery, how would i go about ithuhhuh??
Well, not exactly, There's a fix for allowing your 32bit PC to use all of it rams, but it's not recommended as it modifies your kernel, in which if you're using a pirated operating system, issues may arise. If you want to revert, when next you but your PC simply press F11. Follow steps to recover your PC. It's up to you what you want to do. wink

aye. i'm not really a fan of linux and open source but i suspect they should even further buttress my point rather than vitiate them. wink
How's that when 80% of web server operating systems use linux including that of nairaland? The Linux OS is far far better than that of Microsoft who have been struggling so many years now to catch up. People are just stuck helplessly with Windows coz you have choice of more programs there. Moreover, the last Microsoft Career Conference I attended, Linux skills was the third top career choice before Microsoft Certifications. Wake up and clean your eyes. cool

@tunde300us: You probably installed something recently that made changes to your operating system without your knowledge of the program itself. Post your problem in the (Computer troubles sections instead)

I recently changed ma brand new hp pavilion g6 from windows 7 home basic to windows 7 ultimate, now the computer is a monster. I later discovered the person who helped me with the changing might have messed up but the solution is what i need now. Some of the problems that arised include: -ma experience index fell all the way from 4.0 to 3.3 -under system properties, ma RAM now writes 4.0gb(2.43gb usable) and the system is now very slow cuz of that. -installing softwares is now a pain in the Bottom(pes 2011 said ma video card doesn't meet the minimum requirement, call of duty said d3d*9_34.dll is missing from ma computer etc) and a couple of other problems, Computers gurus, pls what could i do to rectify all these, HELP ME!
lol. Welcome to the world of 32 bit. You'd probably want to do a system recovery and put your system back the way iy was built, You're way complaining too much already.

@Yomade: You probably installed an application that switched back your PC to classic logon (Probably netware). If you don't use any password simply press enter when the prompt appears. After that you can go to your control panel and swithc back to welcome style logon.

If you need more elaboration, feel free to ask.

K. SO what's the std:: calls about? Is it faster than adding 'using namespace std;' at the top or is it simply your style?

Thanks, I really appreciate. Your coding flavour is kinda sweet. I was nearly staring at std::string for 2 mins. But the comments are superb, But isn't the hexto16 supposed to call hex15to16 with the parameter as hextto15?
WebmastersRe: Best University Website by skydancer(op): 1:49am On Aug 13, 2011
Hmm, are you just saying for the sake of others or are you really asking?

Anyway, here are the ones I looked at:

unizik dot edu dot ng
unilag dot edu dot ng
americanuniversity.org
uniben dot edu
abu dot edu dot ng
lasunigeria dot org
convenantuniversity dot edu dot ng

Now the main reasons why I decided UNN was better was:

1. The appearance of the site: While one could almost discern at once the cms and template with which others were built (were applicable). That of UNN was purely professional. The loading animations, the news scrolls, everything seems unique. Additionally, I think it's the most user friendly too.

2. Innovation: Take a look at the UNN getting around flash application which contains a map of the whole school with directions landmarks and even vegetation + pictures of different spots. I no fit shout for that one sef. All pdf links on the site are opened internally in a sweet ui that allows you to read without having to download anything. Clicking on the virtual tour on unilag website for instance sent my browser almost on a hook downloading some executable file. Now that's crazy, how do I know the executable file is not infected? And even when I finally downloaded it and run it, it was not exactly the 'virtual tour' I expected.

3. Content: Also, you can see outright that the content on unn website is very organized. The more you open, the more you get whatever details you are looking for to the last details.

4. Professionalism: Lastly, apart from the content, unn dot edu dot ng seems to be the only one that has some sort of professional touch over it. For instance, trying to access the site through a proxy gave me an access denied. The link generation of the cms is cleaned up, minimizing security breaches, unlike the unilag website which still has leaks like unilag dot edu dot ng/page.php?page=[whatever] this type of weakness can be exploited with rfi/lfi. I'm not exactly comparing unn website with unilag website here, but unilag website seems to be much better than the others after UNN website.

ps: it's been a long time. smiley

I have been looking at different university websites lately, and I have come to conclude that the best of them is that of UNN (unn.edu.ng). Better still, it was designed by UNN students. Flash and Drupal are really doing an incredible job on the site, I'm challenged. . .

ProgrammingProgramming Challenge - Navigate Using Same Cache Header by skydancer(op): 5:41pm On Aug 04, 2011
Ok, I've been trying this for 2 days now without success. I want to download data from a page in a website which uses basic authentication. After I automate a login to thehe website, opening a new page results in an expired session (meaning the cache navigation did not work out).
Here's the login details:
Username: 2010/170232
password: unn

After automating the login, the task is to download data from any other link (1 or 2) on the site.

The website is http://unnportal.com/cp/studentportal/std_framelogin.htm

I'd prefer ASP.NET or PHP for the code. Anyone?

Hmm, Mobinga in your anger, you turned arrogant as well. It happened that bakenda's 'simplified' php code was better than yours in the end. Anyway, that's quite surprising and may be due to php server things, . It's possible there's an improved way of multiplying without repeated additions. I'll look that up later. , nice codes anyway.

Hi guys. Today i plugged in my laptop,an hp mini to charge. Later i wanted do some work on it so i transferred the system to another location, plugged it to charge, switched it on and started work. Shortly after i noticed that the charging indicator was blinking,i thot it wasnt properly connected so i unplugged the charger. The laptop switched off immediately. I tried to turn it on but it didnt turn on. It only switched on when i replugged it to the charger. The same thing keeps happening each time i unplug the charger. The battery icon on the system is sayin "plugged" but not charging". I have removed the battery and put it back,to no avail. Its still blinking and i cant switch it on unless its plugged.
I don't know what the problem is becos the laptop is relatively new {i bought it in April},i never let the battery to run down completly,it was charging normally b4 i changed its location to work on it and there was no power/NEPA fluctuation . . . HELP!!! *sob*
Your laptop must have experienced shock in one way or another. This might be ridiculous but if you shake it again, it might start working (if it's able to get back to its original state). I'd advise you to take it to someone who can simply loose and fit everything back again. It's not a big deal.

Good, it's advisable you download a fresh copy of Windows XP iso, mount it and update your PC with it. If you skipped files during your installation you may still have to face certain problems in the future.

sad sad sad. Hello, just stumbled on this thread after 3 weeks of sleepless night researching on the internet on how to reinstall my Win xp with a faulty cd rom. What i have done so far, i read about usb booting, my toshiba m45 does not support usb booting, so i read about plop boot manager to make it become usb bootable. Thank God plop boot manager supports installation via floppy apart from cd rom, so i ordered a toshiba usb floppy disk drive on ebay, downloaded plop boot manager on floppy diskette and use it to fire up my system, but first setting my bios to boot from FDD, plop boot manager works magic as my toshiba was able to recognize usb bootable flash drive, unfortunately Win xp professional set up keeps getting stuck when copying files from my usb, i have inter-changed the RAMs and still cant successfully copy all files without getting stuck in 16%, 24%, 54% (i need expert advice on this first as usb booting woud be great and time saving and can serve my PC in the future without stress, i found a method explained on google of taking out laptop HDD to another desktop, although that seems equipment demanding and special computer skills) If i have to fly with the second option, can i use usb 2.0 sata ide adapter to mount my laptop HDD on the desktop or do i really need to make a physical connection. I tried maybe not so wise way before, by using the usb sata ide adapter to mount the laptop SATA HDD on the desktop, the desktop recognizes the laptop HDD like a flash drive would work when put in a system for the first time, i was able to get into the HDD and see the content. I rebooted the desktop with win xp in the cd rom, it showed my laptop HDD and when i try to install xp directly into it, it get stuck with a message of desktop motherboard compatibility and i need a motherboard manufacturer software or something, to cut my story short, help me deal with first option of usb booting and make clearer the second option of any possibility of using usb 2.0 sata ide adapter, if thats gonna work. I make an SOS call on this adorable toshiba laptop before i make a decision to garbage it in 1 week. FYI: i am usling a demo version of flashboot to make my Ufb flash drive become bootable by copying win xp iso image on the pen drive usling flashboot. I urgently need this PC to work. any help guys
What RAMS did you interchange and are you certain the RAM works? Have you tried other XP iso images with the flashboot? Next time please go straight to the point as many don't have the patience to read so much in a world splattered with information everywhere

The best is to check an independent test / review, like AV Comparatives ! They test 3 times a year all existing AntiVirus Software ! Just check the link below !

There are two problems with your suggestion koukouk. First, the link suggests it's talking strictly about internet security. Secondly, most of these tests are performed by people who have steady internet connections and barely care about hardware specs. The best thing to me, is what works, not what you're told.

There is no a single solution for recycler warm yet as I can remember( the least you can do is to quarantine it). The best solution has been to save all your important files to a CD( cos the virus can not be transfer through that process) and do a new installation.
Eh, have you tried RoboSAM yet? I should be able to remove it comfortably under admin permissions.

@ZIM
It came with Vista, upgraded it to 7 a couple years back and everything was fine till it crashed. I used a recovery CD to reinstall the OS and got the drivers from Compaq website.

A while back i noticed the webcam had stopped functioning and the error code i posted is related to the webcam, i've checked the compaq website but there's nothing related to it.

As for the service pack, it's SP1. .it installs succesfully. .after updating, reboots the laptop. .then when it starts configuring the SP, it says it can't be configured, i'll try to find a screenshot online since its impossible to get one as it boots.
The drivers you probably got from Compaq didn't work out? Go to the compaq website again, and see if you can see the version for Xp or windows 7. Then you do a manual update of the driver from the folder where you extract the driver files to. If this does not work, then you will need to find another camera device that the drivers is compatible with yours.
