It is the inept and callous Jonathan who'll pay for all these acts of criminalities at the polls, and if it escalates, in prison.

He won't get away with it. Every reasonable person around me here in Lagos is very angry and they're taking that anger to the polling booth on Saturday.

It's called desperation. And he'll fail very soon.

I even have concrete info that Jonathan has talked to leaders of many African countries over who can accommodate him after May 29. It's that bad.

THE March 28, 2015, presidential vote has all along been presented in both local and foreign media as a battle of titans, a tough war. This is in keeping with media’s penchant for histrionics and drama. It also enables the media to be seen as balanced, and not partisan. We live in a world where objectivity and balance are often confused with an inability to call a spade by its true name. Consequently, long after the Nigerian presidential election has for all practical purposes been lost and won, the media continues with the prevarication that the result is too close to call. But perceptive journalists know better.

They, like diplomats, tell you the truth in private. The way the shark smells blood far away is the way politicians see electoral victory even before votes are cast. They consequently move in the direction of victory in very large numbers, all the more so in a typical developing environment where ideology is of little relevance; strange bedfellows are not left out in the unidirectional movement. A fundamental shift has all but been completed in Nigerian politics. For the first time in our national history, prominent members of a ruling party have been moving to the major opposition party in droves.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has since Wednesday, January 15, become the majority in the House of Representatives; it has 179 members while the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has 162. The situation would probably have been the same in the Senate but for a well-calculated court action since February, 2014, designed to stop PDP senators from moving en masse to the APC.

Among the nine PDP senators who joined the APC on January 14 is Barnabas Gemade, PDP’s erstwhile national chairman. Why haven’t APC members been joining the government party since this year? Why has practically every party defector been moving from the PDP to the opposition APC? Twenty-four hours to President Goodluck Jonathan’s launch of his campaign in Ondo State on January 15, five commissioners in the state’s PDP administration resigned and joined the APC, alongside all former State House of Assembly speakers and a former chief of staff.

The president was thus compelled to postpone the visit to the state. The next day, Governor Segun Mimiko’s ex-chief press secretary, Kolawole Olabisi, and many others from his hometown joined the exodus train. Olabisi is from the same place as Governor Mimiko, who is the Southwest coordinator of the Jonathan Campaign. Each defector claimed that his or her action arose out of the national need to get Muhammadu Buhari elected Nigeria’s president on March 28.

In Niger State, deputy governor Musa Ibeto left the PDP for APC on Monday, January 19. In Kaduna State, a former secretary to the state government, Samaila Lawal, and 434 others in Makarfi Local Government Area left the PDP for the APC on January 21. Four PDP members of the Akwa Ibom State legislature have just joined the APC. Is the APC fast cutting the image of a national movement? Even in the Southeast, which has been rather fanatical about Jonathan, there is a considerable change. Ejike Mbaka, an immensely popular priest who runs about the biggest religious ministry in the country, came out against the president in his New Year message.

The PDP and its media agents made the fatal error of not just attacking this charismatic priest in an area which prides itself on being the bastion of Catholicism in Nigeria but also accusing him of unsuccessfully applying for an oil block! The attacks have made Mbaka more popular, elevating him to the pantheon of prophets always prosecuted by the political authorities of their time for speaking truth to power! The person representing my humble self in the National Assembly, Fort Dike, has now joined the APC from the PDP.

So has my old friend and colleague, Victor Ogene, a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), who represents the Ogbaru Federal Constituency. Emeka Nwogbo, my secondary schoolmate who represents the Awka North and South Federal Constituency, has also quit APGA for the APC. This was almost unthinkable four months ago. The PDP gives the impression that it is going into the election unprepared. Edwin Clark, a member of the party’s board of trustees who is particularly close to President Jonathan, is angry.

The elder statesman has been venting his frustration in public. Clark accuses the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INE) of working against Jonathan for ethnic and religious reasons. He also accuses the PDP national chairman of being a bad influence on the president, citing the instance of Nuhu Ribadu, founding chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and now the party’s gubernatorial candidate in Adamawa State, who was sold to the president as hugely popular. A few days ago he accused the leadership of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of laxity in prosecuting the war against corruption which has aided the popular perception that Jonathan is not keen on fighting graft. Clark is not the only frustrated BoT member.

Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo has been mobilising against Jonathan. Ex-Vice President Alex Ekwueme, the first BoT chairman who may well be called the party’s founder, granted a rare press interview which was anything but flattering about Jonathan. Tony Anenih, the current BoT chairman widely known as Mr. Fix It, has been involved in the campaign rather perfunctorily. Not even on the home front is there cohesion. First Lady Patience Jonathan and Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson have been fighting dirty in public. Interestingly, the fight is not over public policy but over personal greed and aggrandizement. In neighbouring Rivers State where Jonathan won the highest vote of some two million in 2011, Governor Chibuike Amaechi alleges the first lady is a principal cause of his ongoing feud with the president.

Even in far away Anambra, the home state of Nnamdi Azikiwe, Nwafor Orizu, Alex Ekwueme and some other great Nigerians, the first lady insists on deciding senatorial candidates. Chadian president told Reuters a few days ago that he mobilised his troops into the Nigerian territory to rout Boko Haram terrorists because Jonathan was not ready to do the right thing even after six years of the terrorists’ sustained attacks. Vice President Namadi Sambo’s attendance of the 40th anniversary of the enthronement of the Emir of Zaria, his hometown, earlier this month was disastrous. All Nigerians seem united by a bleak future against the government party.

Therefore, the postponement of the presidential vote by six weeks from February has been unable to change the electoral permutations. The country’s demography is not too charitable to Jonathan. Lagos, with 5.8 million, has the highest number of registered voters out of the country’s 68.8 million, followed by Kano which has 4.9 million. Both are APC controlled. The president’s home state of Bayelsa has the lowest figure of 610,000. The international community is likely to be pleased with the election outcome.

The counsel general of a major country spoke to me rather uncharacteristically at a recent dinner at Eko Hotel in Lagos. As I tried, out of national pride, to defend the government, he queried: “In what area, in your honest opinion, can this administration be given a pass mark –education, health, internal security, infrastructure, petroleum, foreign policy, national cohesion, defence or fighting graft?” I was, for once, lost for words. It is self evident that some of the western countries do not think highly of the outgoing administration, a situation exacerbated by the scandal of the Nigerian government surreptitiously flying over $15 million in raw cash to South Africa under the pretext of procuring arms to fight Boko Haram terrorists.

Worse, some African countries have been deriding Nigeria under Jonathan’s leadership. Nigeria has in the last few years been lying on its belly, severely challenged in all ramifications. Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, western Nigeria has accused the Nigerian Minister of Finance and Co-ordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, of frustrating state governments in the country by denying them access to funds for development.
Fashola said Okonjo-Iweala’s actions are political and meant to starve states of funds for development primarily to create financial challenges in states ahead of the elections.

The governor, who was at the State House of Assembly Tuesday evening, to inform the lawmakers about the current state of the Nigerian economy, lamented that the economy had been run aground by the President Goodluck Jonathan administration and that as a result, the state has to maintain some level of austerity.
“Today the Honourable Minister for Finance, if any honour still attaches to her actions, has stopped Nigerian banks from funding state governments because of elections, as if the needs of the people for roads, healthcare, drugs, education and security has stopped.
“She has insisted that inspite of individual appraisals of each bank by their credit committees, all State requests for funding by banks must be approved by her Ministry.
“To the best of my knowledge, she has not granted any of the requests submitted to her for approval in her new coordinating role as the retail banker for the Nigerian economy.

“A recent study that I commissioned just two months ago shows that construction workers are losing their jobs in the thousands across the country.
"Reports from four major construction companies show that a total of 5,170 local workers and 450 expatriate workers have been laid off between December 2014 and February 2015 and there will be more to follow, from only four companies.
“Your guess is then as good as mine about what is happening in several other hundreds of middle and small construction companies.
“The disposable income value of rich and poor Nigerians have been diminished considerably, and the prognosis is not encouraging having regard to the high unemployment rates, high interest rate, and the necessity for self-generation of electricity which further erodes this income.
“My quick check revealed that at least 2,400 bank workers have been laid off in March 2015 alone.

“Investigations at the port showed that many importers cannot collect their goods because the prices between when they ordered and when they arrived has risen sharply.
“This is largely as a result of the devaluation of the naira that followed the postponement of the election.
“These goods include raw materials for factories and small businesses. Without these raw materials, they cannot produce. If they cannot produce they will most likely lay off workers,” Fashola said.

He further lamented that the Nigerian stock market had lost an estimated N4 trillion as a result of the postponement of the 2015 general elections adding that “according to Mr. President when he visited the Stock Exchange last week, in his opinion this is not that bad, because when he took office, the market had crashed to N6 trillion as a result of the global financial crises.”
He urged the people of Lagos to form your own opinion about the President statement reminding them that fallen stock prices mean huge personal financial loses to the owners of those shares, and they are in their millions.
“Indeed, the picture that is emerging on our economic canvass where we substantially import goods and services is not a pretty one.
“There is a news headline that IMF is recommending a further devaluation of the Naira. This is frightening for me as it should be for any citizen and more so for any leader,” he said.

He also slammed his colleagues in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for wasting their states funds to hold a meeting in Lagos and protest against the use of Electronic Card Readers by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, “as if Lagos is the headquarters of INEC.
“They desecrate Nigeria’s commercial capital by their poorly conceived misadventure and the Agenda for their thoughtless gathering,” he said while seeking for an amendment to the 2015 Appropriation Law of the state with the argument that it would create for effective management of revenues and would make the state only spend what it gets since the dwindling revenue to Nigeria has also affected Lagos State.
“While our external reserves had depleted from US$37.0 billion in November 2014 to about US$30.06 billion currently, the official exchange rate of the naira to the US dollar dipped from N155/US$ in mid-November 2014 to the current exchange rate of N198.50/US$ (a 28 percent devaluation over the last four months). The exchange rate at the parallel market foreign exchange window currently hovers around N228/US$ (a decline of about 36 percent) and yet still on a downward spiral.

“The summation of all these is that the purchasing power of the citizens has been considerably eroded, while simultaneously the investment activities of both the private and public sectors in production cum employment generation capacity and critical infrastructure is now being curtailed.
“To put this in perspective, the revenues accruing into the Federation Account (inclusive of VAT Receipts) declined from a monthly average of N622 billion in year 2014 to the current monthly average of N541 billion (a decrease of 13 percent). Lagos State’s share from the Federation Account has also correspondingly fell from monthly average of N11.05 billion in 2014 to the current monthly average of N10.34 billion. In fact, in February 2015 in comparison with January the State recorded a decline of 14 percent,” he lamented adding that this had also affected Lagos.

The last time i checked, Gov. Fashola was the "Chief Security Officer" of Lagos State. How you managed to be right and he is wrong is what I don't understand.

Incidentally, Lagos State Commissioner of Police & Inspector-General of police (both appointees of the clueless one) didn't manage to know that Fashola was wrong and dispute his figures too.

What they're saying is that Jonathan wants to speak with him, ostensibly to discuss regional security. However, they believe that it's an attempt to make political capital out of the discussion, since elections are coming up shortly.

They don't mind talking with him, but only after the elections. They only mentioned Islam to reiterate that Morocco has a lot in common with Nigeria, being a fellow African country, and also having a large Muslim population which unfortunately is at the receiving end of terrorist attacks.

Patience Jonathan is a disgrace to ALL WOMEN worldwide.

RECENT reports from US intelligence sources have revealed that Nigerian military commanders leaked plans to rescue the abducted Chibok girls to Boko Haram terrorists which ended up botching the operation.

On April 14, over 200 pupils were abducted from Government Girls Secondary School Chibok in Borno State, sparking an international outrage. In response to the global outcry, the US sent spy planes to Nigeria to help locate the girls and a plan was agreed with the military to mount a daring rescue operation.

However, according to two US Army generals, details of the rescue mission was leaked to Boko Haram before it could be put into operation, enabling the terrorists to take preventative action. Accusing the Nigerian Army of treason, the generals revealed that that the war against Boko Haram was purposefully sabotaged by the Nigerian government, as if it would not, defeating the terrorists would not have taken longer than a month.

US sources pulled out from helping Nigeria rescue the missing Chibok girls after Washington discovered that Boko Haram had been fed the details of a covert rescue mission that would involve using gas. Source said that as soon as the Americans arrived and flew surveillance flights over Nigeria, they located the girls and proposed gassing the areas in the Sambisa Forest and then sending in a raid mission to rescue the girls while their terrorist captors were paralysed asleep.

However, shortly after Nigeria’s security chiefs were given this plan in high confidence, its details were leaked to Boko Haram who promptly acted to foil the plot. On its next surveillance flight over the area, the US team saw the Boko Haram terrorists all wearing gas masks.

US agents were very disappointed with this and immediately afterwards, Washington announced that it will no longer share information with Nigeria. This was one of the major reasons why the US gave up on a mission of working with the Jonathan government and eventually pulled out of the fight against Boko Haram.

According to military sources, it was this betrayal that led to Washington sanctioning Nigeria and preventing her from purchasing security equipment because the US is not convinced of the sincerity of the Jonathan government. Since the episode, the US has refused to sell Nigeria military hardware amid fears that it may end up in the hands of Boko Haram, although the official reason given was the human rights record of the Nigerian Army.

Since it began its operations in 2009, Boko Haram has always managed to infiltrate the Nigerian security forces where it has as lot of supporters and sympathisers. Terrorist cells are regularly tipped off about military missions and have subsequently been able to lie in ambush for Nigerian soldiers.

Of late, however, Boko Haram has been on the back foot since the establishment of the regional Multi National Joint Task Force. Because the task force is made up of regional neighbours Cameroon, Chad and Niger Republic, Boko Haram has been unable to infiltrate it, as their troops have not been infilterated.

GEJ pulled this same stunt in 2010 b4 2011 elections. I know for sure that I am not the only who recall buying kerosene for N50 per litre, dangote cement sold around N1,000 and some other aspects i can't recall vividly.

Elections came. We voted him in but 8 months after his swearing in petrol price rose from N65 to N140 or thereabout only for him to bring down to N97 and since then other catastrophic policies and decisions have followed suit

Lagos lawyer, Femi Falana, has said that the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Atahiru Jega, cannot go on terminal leave or resign as speculated.
Mr. Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, said this while speaking to journalists during the Nigerians United for Democracy rally held at Ojota, Lagos on Saturday.

He maintained that the INEC chair is not a civil servant and thus cannot go on terminal leave.
“There is no provision…Jega has a 5 year tenure which is renewable under section 155 of the constitution. There is no provision for sabbatical or terminal leave. Jega is not a civil servant to be ordered by the head of service to proceed on leave and in any case, you can’t go on leave when the basic duty for which the constitution has appointed you is been performed so there is no room for resignation or sabbatical leave,” Mr. Falana said.

He maintained that the general elections cannot be further postponed stating that the constitution states that elections must hold 30 days before handing over date.
“Constitutionally, elections cannot be further postponed; if the government does it, it will be asking for anarchy and there is no provision for it in the constitution. The president has repeatedly assured Nigerians that there is no room for interim national government.

“We have also been told that there will be no coup, therefore, we have to operate within the ambit of the law and that is why you cannot go beyond April 11 to conduct election because under the constitution, election must be held not later than 30 days to the handing over date. That means all the elections must be completed before April 29,” he said.

Mr. Falana said the rally was not in support of any political party but to warn the government not to tamper with the new election dates.
“The government has said those dates are sacrosanct, but we are only here to warn them that if there is any attempt to thinker with those dates, we would mobilise Nigerians to throw out all the antics of anti-democratic system”.

He urged the armed forces not to interfere with electoral process stressing that it is not their duty to determine when elections will be held.
“We expect that the government will appreciate that Nigerian people will not allow any further postponement of the election dates. We also want the armed forces to stay clear of democratic process. It’s not their business to determine when to hold election. Just like other Nigerians, they have the fundamental right to vote for a candidate of their choice, but they have no right to tell INEC when to hold election and when not to hold to hold election,” he said.
He reminded the current administration of how past governments who attempted to truncate democratic process were chased out of power.
“Even military dictators could not frustrate democratic process, for that reason, once we mobilise Nigerians, no force can stop us,” he said.

He disagreed with the government’s position on the reason for the shift in election.
“Elections were held in Syria, Iraq and Libya. What will be the excuse for not holding elections in Nigeria? In Yobe, local government elections were held in 2013 and there was no incident. The president was in Maiduguri to campaign, the APC candidate, General Buhari was in Maiduguri to campaign, and there were no incidence, so why should they stop elections in other parts of the country?” he asked.

The NUD rally which kicked off from Maryland to the Gani Fawehimi Park in Ojota saw attendance by other democracy activists including the Nigerian Labour Congress Vice president, Isa Aremu; former NADECO and Afenifere member, Ayo Opadokun; lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, amongst others.

APC has no reason to be jittery. It's even good that Jonathan reclaim the places he lost.

It means more votes for APC in those towns and villages.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the sickening and outlandish claim by the Jonathan campaign Organization that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu plans to become Vice President through the back door was designed to divert attention from the runaway success of the APC presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, at the Chatham House in London last Thursday.

In a statement issued in London on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the PDP and the Jonathan Administration still do not have any answer to what has now become an epochal moment that has separated the wheat from the chaff.

”Our presidential candidate’s globally-acclaimed outing has presented Nigerians, and indeed the global community, with a choice between a bumbling, ineffective, incoherent, clueless, visionless and incompetent President and an assertive, knowledgeable, dignified, purposeful and principled President-in-waiting.

”Having failed to discredit that outing with a rented crowd, some of whom confessed to have been paid to carry placards they do not even understand, the PDP and the Jonathan Administration have now resorted to making nauseating claims that are totally untrue, absolutely incomprehensible and nothing but sheer bunkum,” it said.

APC said the claim is the latest in a series of desperate moves by the PDP and the Jonathan Administration since the emergence of Gen. Buhari as the APC presidential candidate, and the clearest indication yet that they have no answer to the unstoppable momentum of a man of history.

”They have thrown everything imaginable at Gen. Buhari, but he has continued to wax stronger and stronger: They said he was not qualified, that he was too old, then they fabricated a medical report of an illness of their own choice, sponsored death wish adverts against him and instituted a myriad of court cases to stop him.

”After they failed to stop him, they went after the election itself, using the PVCs as a tool to launch a campaign for postponement and, when they realized that would not work, came up with the bogey of insecurity in the North-east to force a postponement of the election, hoping they can buy enough time to revive their electoral misfortune.

”With everything working against them, they engaged in a show of shame at The Chatham House that backfired badly, on the heels of their bare-faced lies that Gen. Buhari was hospitalized in London. The preposterous claim of a secret oath – reminiscent of what they do in their own party – by the apparently ailing spokesman of the Jonathan Campaign Organization, Femi Fani-Kayode, is their latest desperate act,” the party said.

APC said in as much as it has so far refrained from engaging Fani-Kayode in his game of character assassination, abuses and irresponsible name calling, the party is becoming seriously concerned that he may be caving in under pressure and reverting to his undignified past of substance abuse.

The party said it would be a real tragedy if the obviously-disturbed spokesman of a doomed presidential campaign will have to be rushed to a back house in Ghana for therapeutics, hence the need for his handlers to quickly put him on a leash before it is too late.
