Got a few questions about SCCM 2012

1) If i am deploying SCCM 2012. is SQL 2012 STANDARD part of my SCCM license. Microsoft licensing PDF is not straight forward.

2) Can i deploy all on one server.i mean SCCM,SQL Server and WSUS? currently struggling to configure WSUS on the same servers as SCCM and SQL.

I use teamviewer and it's working really ok for me so far. And I can remote to my lab with my iPad aswell while on lunch (I think that is epic ) lol

I am at work now and currently logged on to my lab at home through RDP. All i did was install pertino on both devices and they bot get a public IP address. Its free for up to 3 devices.Looks really cool and easy to setup.

It's around £600 in the uk so how come its 450 000 Naira in Naija? That's like £1500.

Mellorix: Yes - we have hmmmm 4 days period of testing updates. for example. Server Updates, Desktop updates. (We have 2 windows server that is not critical - so what i do is deploy to these 2 servers first and monitor the patch. if all is fine then i deploy to the rest servers. same thing with the desktops.)

Wow. thanks for acupofit.com. Thats exactly what i want. I love the idea of application owners are responsible for the reboot of servers and patches should be once a month. The dreaded patch Tuesday.

how do you access your lab when you are away or maybe from work? Do you use pertino? seems cool as i need to access my lab from work now.

Mellorix: Ok. So I actively used SCCM 2007 for Software update which was kind of fun. Anyways moving up to 2012 .However, I assume you already have SCCM 2012 Installed in your environment – if not oh well then you will have more work to do. Get an SCCM Lab set up.
WSUS will be used for Pulling all the Updates and metadata from Microsoft as a requirement for SCCM Software updates.

Your question is kinda broad – but if you have any issues while implementing SUS for sccm let me know ill be happy to help.

For best practice, I use the below forum a lot - they are some good guys there for SCCM. I also use Technet – (the turnaround is marvellous)

I'll definitely been asking you load of questions. I will have to get it installed and configured in a production environment.Will be setting it up on my lab at home this weekend though. Currently studying train signal for it.

I have always used WSUS in my previous work place and it was supporting a user of about 160 so i just was relaxed with updates and the network was simple for me but where i am not is about 200 servers so i need to implement best practice and no room for error and this time, i have to implement SCCM. My question was how do you test updates? Do you create a test server and install the update there and see if its perfect or you just deploy and pray that it does not mess things up.

Just been given a project to deploy SCCM 2012 to monitor software updates. I was wondering if you have experience with that and what are the best practices you have seen when managing computers using SCCM? How do you test your updates?

One thing I know is that its not about what you graduate with. Even in UK. I know lots of people who had 2.1 but still no job. Its all about picking up different skills in life along the way and tailoring it to your job hunt.

Its a shame Microsoft is losing this battle. Just like the Microsoft surface. Its a good tablet and i personally feel its features are better than the IPad but Apple and Samsung are the guys who controls both the phone and tablet market now.

You right but i have been to several seminars and most companies offering private cloud services always makes the promise that their data is within the EU. I have not made lots of research to it but i think if their data is in a USA datacenter, that mean its bound by US laws.EU data protection laws are different from US laws. I could be wrong about the main reason though but most companies in the UK have always specified that their want their data either in the UK or within the EU and most cloud providers stick to that generally. Companies can use datacenter outside EU but they have to be complaint with EU data protection law which i feel is a bit tricky. i will look online more if i can find a specific statement to sheds more light on that

Bawss1: Is this a statement of fact or are you speculating? I ask because I find it hard to believe that government in the US or UK will dictate how and where private organisations store their data, especially in this post Snowden era. Google, Facebook and the likes have datacenters in various places around the globe, are you saying that all data from their, say, UK site is stored in its UK datacenter by law? Hard to believe.

I am doubtful how government regulation can help this industry in Nigeria. The core bane of cloud computing services in this country is infrastructure; bandwidth and power. But I think many SMEs - and big coys too! - are still wondering how cloud services are relevant to them and why they should consider it over the legacy systems that are in place.

I am sure its regulated in EU and USA. Now i am not 100% sure if free services like Sky-drive, dropbox is included but business customers in UK can't have their data stored in America's datacenter.by law it has to be somewhere around Europe.

Currently using office365 at my current workplace and the consultant assured us that our data are not sent outside Europe.A lot of business are worried about that a lot and i have been to cloud computing seminars and they all keep saying the same thing that their data are stored somewhere within the EU.

Have you checked the BIOS to see if you need to enable hardware virtualization in BIOS? What's the spec of your PC?

EGRESS: I think in terms of job prospect electrical and electronics engineering is a very good course to study cos u have a diversified range to choose from, you can work in the telecomms industry, I.T industries, manufacturing industries and oil/gas industry(as instrumentation engineer). It is the course that beat its counterparts. Closer to it is civil cos there are construction of buildings, bridges, dams and so on everywhere(but not that lucrative except you are buoyant to establish urself). My penny!

I will like to know how organizations in Nigeria are embracing cloud computing. I recently spoke with someone who got a job in Nigeria that requires knowledge of cloud computing only for him to be given sky-drive and dropbox to manage and configure. Now i am not dissing sky-drive but i feel companies in Nigeria should know better than to just dump file on a free service. which products are currently being in use in Naija.

Its better to follow your passion. Do what you love. No one can give you the correct answer. A particular course or profession in demand now might not be in demand by the time you graduate. If you still need an advise,i will say an Engineering course which will allow you to branch out to other fields easily.

You are not wrong. Cloud computing has been in existence for a long time. The term "cloud computing" is just repackaging and with more features and they made it better. Games like World of Warcraft are cloud based (as they call it now) but before it was just called online gaming.
