The engine performance when you use 20W-50 is distinctly different. I could not find 5W-30 two months ago when I did servicing. I would revert to it next time, no matter how long it takes me to find it or the cost. I value my engine more.

1. Leave early. Not earlier than 5am. This way you avoid most of the police check points that will cause delays.
2. Have your papers intact. Customs especially.
3. Don't drive alone, get someone, preferably a driver to travel with you.

Toyota Corolla is expense o. You can buy from Cotonou or Berger if you're looking for the "cheap" options.

A friend of mine spent #1.8m for a 2005 Corolla with a very low mileage and good condition. But he had to stay in Cotonou for two weeks!
