Even in corner kicks someone makes the near post run because its likely to be an area not well protected by the defender and keepers can be caught napping. Torres is a good header of the ball and if I was in Bert's shoes, I will be putting in a nicely flighted ball - head height - into the area Torres was attacking. The defenders already running backwards will find it hard changing direction to run out to defend. Torres was already running forward. Dude, this is a blame at all cost venture. If anything, Bertrand delayed. What you are doing here is blaming Bertrand for not crossing the ball quickly. From the Man utd gif you posted did you notice RVP's movement? his first instinct is to attack the near post before he sensed the Rafaels intended cross stopped in his tracks and tried to move back oblivious that Chicharito had his back covered. Its a basic striker instinct. Thats why a player like RvP would have easy tap ins and we would say he is just scoring tap ins. Its the movement that position you for such.
