Education / Students Of Federal Polytechnic Oko , Atani Campus Cries Out For Help by Sleempapa(m): 12:53pm On Oct 11, 2018
According to students of the Federal Polytechnic Oko, Atani
Campus, the institution have been maligned with flood,
armed and academic instability.

www.nairaland.com/attachments/7937664_images_jpeg68d5535b971d558f594f10a5affd0a71
In the piece below, they are crying out for Intervention.
Many Persons may not be aware that Federal Polytechnic
Oko, Anambra State have a campus extension at Ogbaru
LGA because according to the Students, the setup where we
study is called a glorified secondary school.
While we lament about flood, the treatment and
marginalization of the Management, we are yet not save in
the community where we have been kept.
We have passed the era when we lose 1 or 2 students every
year, now some teaming and heartless individuals have put
it upon themselves that they will not allow students to sleep
in peace.
Due to the internal crises witnessed in Oko polytechnic that
made them to go on strike almost 4 times in this session,
sad incidents have been witnessed in various lodges where
students lives.
At first it was raping of a student which was swept under the
carpet in order not to tarnish the image of the girl affected,
but the perpetrators of this ungodly act was not caught...
Sometimes in January 2018, before we returned from the
New Year break, some persons supposed to be indigenes
(Though no evidence) burgled about 4 lodges which the
leading lodge is Corpus Christi located at Senator Stella
Oduah way, Akili Ozizor, they took televisions, beds,
curtains, foodstuffs and the likes...
Am sure there is no one that this will not cause heart attack
to, the SUG body tried all they could, but nothing came out
of it.
Another one happened after about 1 month when they
burgled virgins lodge, robbed and made away with student
property especially computers because that's the course we
study here; Computer Science and Maths/Statistics.
Other minor robbery incidents silently took place where 1
laptop or android smart phone was stolen...
The boom of them all happened in June/July when another
lodge called Sea Side or Block Industry lodge was robbed.
Here, they made away with 13 smart phones and 9 laptops .
. . oh My God...
Every investigative attempt carried out by those affected
proved abortive. Please what is supposed to be the duty of
the Police?
We were thinking these were mere robbers we didn't know
they were also demonic. On Thursday 27th September, they
went to Atani Campus, used saw to cut the padlock where
Student Fellowships kept their instruments, made away with
4 big generators of different fellowships...
Thank God who showed mercy and 1 of them was caught,
other two who are indigenes according to the confession of
the one caught ran away, the items was recovered which the
police have refused to release saying the Student
Fellowships should Settle them.. Is Police our Friend? We
are not sure.
We think we have seen it all until on Sunday 8th October at
about 11pm, they entered into 2 different lodges 1. THE
Popular Grace and Mercy 2. Presidential Lodge (New lodge)
behind Grace and Mercy.
To show that this is a calculated attack, they came with
engine boat according to sources, entered Presidential
lodge, stabbed A student thank God he didn't die, made
away with about 5laptops and student handset, television,
beat up those they could and went free.
The Question is Who is Behind These Acts??
For How long will they continue to attack us??
What did we do wrong??
Do we deserve such treatment because we came to
study
It is in this note we are Calling on the State Governor chief
Dr. Willie Obiano, Senator Stella Oduah, Ogbaru LGA
Chairman to;
1. Help us track and catch those behind these nefarious acts
2. Recover our stolen properties
3. Move a motion that this school be moved to main
campus
4. While we awaits for number 3, let security be tightened...
#SaveAtaniCampus

Politics / Lagos Godfatherism Can't Work In Benue, Governor Ortom Tells Senator Akume by Sleempapa(m): 3:39pm On Oct 10, 2018
Benue state governor, Governor Samuel Ortom , has said that
the type of godfatherism being practised in Lagos state , will
never be practised in his state. Goveror Ortom made this
remark while reacting to a comment made by his predecessor,
Senator Goerge Akume, who in a recent interview said he
regreted bringing Akume to government and that the governor
has failed woefully in the discharge of his duties.
Akume in his interview said Governor Ortom had realised over
N500 billion in revenue since Ortom came into office and has
nothing to show for it.
Reacting to Akume's comment, Governor Ortom, said he was
being attacked by his predecessor because he has refused to
allow Akume control him and the finances of the state.
Speaking through his media aide, Tahav Agerzua, Governor
Ortom said while in office between 1999 to 2007, Akume
diverted N2bn from the state coffers to pursue his senatorial
ambition.
“Akume’s criticism of Governor Samuel Ortom has
nothing to do with performance but everything to do
with Ortom’s refusal to be subservient and be
subjugated to his (Akume’s) whims. It has become a
trend for Nigerian godfathers to suffocate their
godchildren for failing to be totally slavish to
them. This is unfortunate of godfathers who see
themselves as gods as it happened in Lagos
State. Unfortunately for Akume, he failed to achieve
the same selfish dreams for Ortom in like manner.” he
said

Crime / Prostitution: 8 Ghanian Ladies Nabbed Trying To Enter Kuwait Through Nigeria by Sleempapa(m): 5:51pm On Oct 09, 2018
Eight Ghanaian ladies have been intercepted at the Murtala
Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, for attempted
human trafficking.
Some of the Ghanaians, who were identified as Tordro Gifty
(22), Odurowaa Millicent (20), Abotsi Gift (24) and Bisuat Fustina
(25), had wanted to use Nigeria as a transit point to Kuwait
before eventually landing in Europe for prostitution.
However, Immigration officials became suspicious of the ladies,
whose ages ranged between 20 and 25, when they approached
them for processing at the airport on Monday.
On interrogation, the ladies who were booked on Egypt Air,
confessed that their sponsors actually advised them to use
Nigeria as a transit point first to Kuwait, before proceeding to
Europe.
They also confessed that they entered Nigeria by road via Togo
and Benin Republic.
A source at the command confided in our correspondent that
immediately they were arrested, the ladies were handed over to
officials of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking
In Persons (NAPTIP), who took them out of the airport for
possible interrogation.
The source said: “When our officers interrogated the ladies, they
discovered that they had no genuine reasons for attempting to
use Nigeria as a transit point to Europe. So, this led to further
query from our officers. They eventually confessed that they
were actually crossing to Europe, but had hoped to land in
Kuwait first.
“During interrogation, it was discovered that the ladies in
question actually entered Nigeria through road from Ghana to
Togo and then to Benin Republic. But, the fact is that since the
current Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mr. Muhammed
Babandede came on board, he has increased vigilance at not
just the Lagos Airport, but at other border posts across the
country.
“This is not the first time we are arresting human traffickers at
this airport and we will continue to increase our surveillance to
ensure that unscrupulous elements don’t use our command to
perpetuate their criminal activities.”
However, as at the time of filing this report, it was not clear if
the apprehended ladies had been deported to Ghana for further
prosecution or were still in the country.
In June, 10 youths who attempted to use the Lagos Airport for
trafficking to Moscow, Russia, for the World Cup tournament
were arrested.
The victims had tried to board a Turkish Airline flight to Russia,
when they were intercepted by operatives at the airport.
The victims comprised nine girls and one boy; five of them were
said to be from Edo State, three from Delta State, one from Imo
State and the last victim from Benue State.

Politics / Why I Didn't Support Senator Adeleke, Iyiola Omisore Explains by Sleempapa(m): 7:26am On Oct 05, 2018
The governorship candidate of the Social
Democratic Party in Osun State , Senator Iyiola
Omisore , has said that he opted to support the
candidate of the All Progressives Congress , Alhaji
Gboyega Oyetola , in the rerun election in the
state because the leadership of the Peoples
Democratic Party in the state said they did not
need his support .

Omisore said this in Osogbo on Thursday during a
meeting with members of the SDP from across the
30 local government areas of the state .
Omisore , who defected from the PDP to the SDP
some months before the election , said that former
Vice President Atiku Abubakar wanted to come
and discuss with him before the rerun when he
came to Osogbo but he (Atiku ) was prevented
from coming by the leadership of the PDP in the
state .
A former Nigerian Ambassador to the Philippines ,
Dr Yemi Farounbi, had said this while narrating
why Omisore decided to work for the APC
candidate in the rerun supplementary poll held
on September 27 .
Farounbi said the same thing and Omisore , while
addressing the party members , said he adopted
everything the former envoy had said .
He said the party opted to support the candidate
of the party that was ready to implement the
manifestos of the SDP because the party was for
the best interest of the majority of the people.
Omisore said, “ I want to adopt all what Dr
Farounbi said. We gave them (APC and PDP ) our
manifesto . We dwelled on payment of arrears of
salaries, pensions and gratuities , on local content ,
employment for our youths and the
reorganisation of the educational system , among
others .
“ We went to negotiation with a clear mind that
Osun must be free and thank God our coalition
has produced a new future for the state .

Addition to what Dr Faroumbi said , the National
Chairman of the APC , Adams Oshiomole , said
clearly that our discussion was devoid of any
financial commitment . He said they were ready to
work . ”

Speaking earlier, Farounbi had explained that the
SDP leaders decided to support any political party
that was ready to put the people of the state first ,
saying Omisore earned his respect more because
he was selfless in arriving at who to support .
He said the issue of arrears of salaries, pensions
and gratuities which had impoverished workers
and pensioners was given priority.

The reorganisation of the education sector and local
content were also prominent on their agenda.
Farounbi said, “ Apart from these, we also said the
state must return to 6 - 3 - 3 - 4. That contracts and
services must be given to Osun indigenes ; that
infrastructural development and food security
must be given priority because our people must
not be hungry and they agreed .

“ The Senate President , Senator Bukola Saraki , was
the first to come and he came from the airport to
Ile - Ife with some senators and Dr Doyin Okupe .
We gave him our manifesto and we waited for 24
hours but no response . We heard that they were
saying that we wanted to reap where we did not
sow . We heard that they said they would win
without us and all that.

“ Also , former Ogun State Governor , Gbenga
Daniel , who is the director general of Atiku
Abubakar Presidential Campaign Organisation ,
called and said they were in Osogbo and they
would come to see us. But they did not come .

“ But former Vice President Atiku Abubakar called
and expressed his regret for not being able to
come . He said he wanted to come but the
leadership of the PDP in Osun State said they
should not come because they didn ’ t need us . That
we should go and do anything we liked . ”

Politics / James Manager Distrubutes N212 Million To Emerge As Senatorial Candidate by Sleempapa(m): 7:12am On Oct 04, 2018
James Manager, the senator representing Delta South
Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has emerged
winner of the primary election of the Peoples Democratic
Party
(PDP) for the Senatorial District for the 2019 general
election.
Manager, a fourth-term Senator, emerged the flag-bearer of
the
party in a money-dominated primary election held at the
Oleh
township stadium, headquarters of Isoko South Local
Government Area of the state.
Our correspondent who monitored the election witnessed
the
disbursement of bribes to delegates across the eight local
government areas that make up the senatorial district at the
accreditation centres, by Manager and his closest rival and
member representing Warri North constituency in the state
House of Assembly, Michael Diden, popularly known as
'Ejele'.
It was observed that while the senator was
distributing N200,000 each to the 1,063 delegates by proxy
after
accreditation, the state legislator gave N300,000 to
delegates
from his local government, Warri North, and N200,000 each
to
other delegates from the remaining seven local government
councils shortly after their accreditation, also by proxy.
Declaring the results of the primary shortly after collation of
votes, the Returning Officer for the Delta south senatorial
district
primary election, Pedro Egharevba, said the incumbent
senator,
James Manager, polled 563 votes to beat his closest
opponent,
Michael Diden, who polled 490 votes.
Egharevba announced that the former speaker of the state
house of Assembly, J.F.K. Omatsone, scored three votes,
while
the fourth aspirant, Olivia Agbajoh, a former House of
Representatives member, did not score any vote. There
were
also seven void votes.
Speaking shortly after casting his vote,
a delegate, who asked not to be named, said the N200,000
given to each delegate by Manager, as well as the N200,000
each by Diden to delegates from seven local government
councils and 300, 000 to his Warri North delegates, was the
sole
right of the delegates.
"This is the only time we can make free money from all
these
politicians," he said. "Senator James Manager is our own,
and
you know that we, the Ijaw, are more populated than the two
other ethnic nationalities; that was why we decided to make
him
proud by giving him our vote. Let me congratulate James
Manager for his victory."
At the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Delta Central
senatorial
district primary election, the member representing Uvwie/
Okpe/
Sapele constituency at the House of Representatives, Evelyn
Oboro, polled 586 votes to defeat former Governor, James
Ibori's close political ally, Ighoyota Amori who polled 486,
while
Charles Obule polled six votes at Sapele local government
council where the primary was held.
At the cenotaph in Asaba, the state capital, the senator
representing Delta North senatorial district, Peter
Nwaovoshi,
polled 506 votes to defeat his closest rival, Ned Nwoko, a
former House of Representatives member who polled 453
votes
to clinch the second position, while Paul Osaji, polled 216
votes
to secure the third position.
At Ogwashi-Uku, headquarters of Aniocha South local
government area of the state, it was reliably learnt that at
about
9am, wife of the former PDP National Chairman, Miriam Alli,
who is contesting for the Delta North senatorial district seat
under the All Progressives Congress (APC) allegedly invaded
the
venue of her parallel primary election with armed thugs,
chasing
and attacking party members.
