It was not immediately clear exactly where it had come down and whether anyone had been injured or killed on the ground. A Canadair plane was due to reach Portugal today from Morocco. Other aircraft of the same type including two from Spain are also helping out. Initial reports were that the aircraft that had crashed was Spanish and that it had come down near the village of Louriceira. The official death toll from the fire currently stands at 64, half of whom have been identified, while another 157 people were injured. Main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has blasted President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s remarks on the party’s “justice march” from Ankara to Istanbul, saying “there is a Moses for every pharaoh” after Erdoğan suggested legal action against the march. “They want to threaten us with the judiciary, calling on judges and prosecutors. We know very well what coup plotters have done in this country. We know what they all did in the 1970s, 80s, and in 2017 ... Now they criticize so much but they cannot say: ‘We have justice in our country. Why are you walking?’ Because they know very well that there is no justice,” Kılıçdaroğlu told reporters in the Kahramankazan district of Ankara, setting out on the fourth day of his march on June 18. “I previously asked a question to the July 20 coup plotter [Erdoğan]. I asked: ‘What does the concept of honor remind you of? What significance does that concept have for you?’ The question I asked was very easy and ordinary, but somehow he cannot answer this question. Tell us and we can learn. But he has not given any answer. I want to remind him of the fact that there is a Moses for every pharaoh. He should never forget that,” he said. Speaking at a general session of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) on June 17, Erdoğan had said the CHP risked being an “element of oppression” and pointed to the possibility of future legal proceedings. CHP head Kılıçdaroğlu started his march from Ankara to Istanbul on June 15 in protest at the arrest of CHP deputy Enis Berberoğlu, who was sentenced 25 years in prison for “leaking state secrets” in the case into weapons-loaded Syria-bound trucks of the National Intelligence Agency (MİT). Kılıçdaroğlu is set to walk over 24 days from the capital to Istanbul, a distance of around 450 km, to arrive at the city’s Maltepe Prison where Berberoğlu is currently in jail. The CHP chair walks during the days and stops at locations on the way. Along with thousands of supporters, Kılıçdaroğlu was escorted by family members, CHP lawmakers and CHP members on the first day of the march. At around 10.30 a.m. on June 18, however, supporter Hasan Tatlı suffered a heart attack during a break following 70 minutes of walking. The 69-year-old was rushed to hospital, where he was taken into intensive care, Doğan News Agency reported. The incident occurred in the Kahramankazan district of Ankara province. During Tatlı’s transfer via an ambulance to the district hospital he was accompanied by CHP deputies Necati Yilmaz, Murat Emir and Ali Şeker. Following his initial treatment at the Kahramankazan Hamdi Eriş Hospital, the 69-year-old was transferred to another hospital in Ankara city center. “[Tatlı] has been transferred to a bigger hospital in Ankara. His health is in a critical situation … We hope he will get better,” Emir told reporters in front of the hospital in Kahramankazan. http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/there-is-a-moses-for-every-pharaoh-main-opposition-chp-head-tells-erdogan.aspx?pageID=238&nID=114443&NewsCatID=338

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has criticized the U.S. move to issue arrest warrants for 12 of his bodyguards linked with a brawl outside the Turkish embassy in Washington last month. Several people were injured when a brawl broke outside Turkey's Washington embassy during Erdoğan’s visit to the U.S. in May. Earlier in the day, the U.S. authority had issued arrest warrants for 16 people, including 12 bodyguards of the Turkish president, over the incident. Speaking at an iftar dinner in the capital Ankara on June 15, Erdoğan said: "They have issued arrest warrants for 12 of my bodyguards. What kind of law is this? "If my bodyguards cannot protect me then why am I bringing them to America with me?" Erdoğan also said the U.S. police failed to intervene the brawl, while urging for empathy over what would happen if the same brawl occurred in Turkey. The president explained that outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) terrorists and members of the Fethullahist Terror Organization (FETO) were united in protest against him at a short distance of 40-50 meters from where he was with his bodyguards. "The US police is doing nothing. Can you imagine what the response would have been if a similar incident had taken place in Turkey?" Erdoğan added. He noted that Ankara would continue its political and legal struggle regarding the incident. The melee outside the Turkish ambassador’s residence during the president's visit to the United States in May strained U.S.-Turkish relations. Eleven people were hurt in what Washington’s police chief described as a “brutal attack” on peaceful protesters. The Turkish Embassy had blamed the violence on demonstrators linked to the outlawed Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK), which Turkey and the U.S. consider a terrorist group. Two men identified as Sinan Narin of Virginia and Eyüp Yıldırım of New Jersey were detained over the incident on June 14. http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/turkeys-erdogan-slams-us-move-to-issue-arrest-warrants-for-bodyguards.aspx?PageID=238&NID=114390&NewsCatID=510

According to Colombian authorities, Diaz and her partner participated in the kidnapping of businessman Hugo Lopez Moncayo and lawyer Milton Caro Villamil in December six years ago. It is alleged they helped snatch the pair from a bar in Cali, Colombia. The kidnappers then asked relatives for a ransom of 3 billion COP (804,331 GBP) to release them, but the victims are still missing. Driven to distraction: How Kim Jong-un's 'traffic ladies' are hired purely for their looks, have to retire at 26 and MUST be single North Korea's traffic security officers, or 'traffic ladies', direct cars in Pyongyang The are chosen for their looks in a society that still remains mainly traditionalist They must leave the role if they marry, and have to retire from the role by age 26 The 300-odd ladies are the favourite subject of visiting tourists and journalists Snapping their heads from side to side, marching into the roads in close-fitting blue uniforms and black heels, the 'traffic ladies' who marshal vehicles at the intersections of Pyongyang are an emblematic image of the North Korean capital. Officially known as traffic security officers but universally referred to as traffic ladies, they are chosen for their looks in a society that remains traditionalist in many respects. They must leave the role if they marry, and have a finite shelf-life, with compulsory retirement looming at just 26. The 300-odd ladies are unique to Pyongyang, which North Korean authorities are always keen to present in the best possible light despite their nuclear-armed country's impoverished status, and ensure a steady supply of photogenic young women who are the favourite subject of visiting tourists and journalists. They are representing the capital city,' explained a senior officer of the ministry of public security, which supervises traffic regulation. 'That's why they are selected based on their appearance and physique.' No age limit applies to their roughly 400 male counterparts - who tend to be stationed at roundabouts. The rules were because 'normally, the women in our country marry at the age of 26 or 27', explained the officer, who did not want to be named. 'Because the role is tough and difficult, they can only do the job when they are single.' The traffic ladies were originally introduced in the 1980s, when vehicles were a rarity on the streets of Pyongyang and remained so for decades, giving rise to the surreal sight of them directing - with precision and energy - non-existent cars on wide but deserted boulevards. As part of North Korea's security forces they hold officer ranks, and Senior Captain Ri Myong-Sim, 24, said: 'I have to carry out each and every action with discipline and spirit.' he United Nations says Turkey's decision to convict one its judges is a breach of both diplomatic immunity and a binding legal order. Judge Aydin Sefa Akay, from the UN's Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals, was convicted of being a member of a designated terrorist group. He faces more than seven years in prison if an appeal fails. Separately, protests have erupted in Ankara over the jailing of an opposition secularist MP. Enis Berberoglu from the Republican People's Party (CHP), the main opposition party, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for leaking "secret information" to a newspaper. He is accused of handing over evidence showing Turkish intelligence services transporting arms over the border to Syria, a story which angered President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The editor and several writers from Cumhuriyet, which published the story, were detained in the wake of the July 2016 attempted coup as part of a widespread crackdown. CHP leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu joined protesters in the capital, and vowed to march all the way to Istanbul, about 450km (280 miles) away if necessary, the AFP news agency reported. "I am going to walk and I am going to walk all the way to Istanbul," he was quoted as saying. "And we will continue this march until there is justice in Turkey." The CHP, founded by Turkey's first president of the modern era, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, has not been subjected to the same clampdown as Kurdish opposition groups since the failed coup. Judge Akay, however, was detained in the subsequent crackdown, along with tens of thousands of other officials. Diplomatic immunity Mr Akay has now been convicted of membership of the Gulen movement, founded by exiled Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen. He has been released pending an appeal, but his passport has been confiscated and he is banned from leaving the country, the UN said in a statement. The MICT, which is a subsidiary of the UN Security Council, has made repeated requests for his release, including an order in January which it says is legally binding on the Turkish government. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-40285658
