Properties › Lagos Demolishes Several Illegal and defective structures at Trade Fair (Photos) by Slytiger(op): 3:39pm On Sep 25, 2025 |
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Jubril Gawat, confirmed the demolition in a brief statement posted on his official social media handle. The Lagos State Government began the demolition of what it described as “illegal developments and defective structures” at the popular Trade Fair Complex in Ojo Local Government Area on Thursday, sparking tension among traders and property owners.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Jubril Gawat, confirmed the demolition in a brief statement posted on his official social media handle.
“FLASH: Lagos State Government begins removal of illegal development, structures without statutory approvals and defective structures and structures built on road setback and drainages in the Trade Fair Complex, Ojo Local Government area,” Gawat wrote.
He further disclosed that the operation was jointly carried out by multiple state agencies, including the Office of the Lagos State Urban Development, Ministry of Physical Planning, Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA), Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA), Office of Infrastructure, as well as members of the Lagos House of Assembly and armed security operatives.
Many netizens have also called on the government to fish out the officials who initially permitted the construction of the buildings and ensure they are all punished as prescribed.
For instance, an X user, King of Sley, said: “Start by punishing those that give approvals for these buildings. Una dey give just paracetamol to person with malaria. Solves nothing. Tomorrow those who claim to ve the plan & know the exact water ways will still give approvals and u blame the developers that r actual victims.”
Another user also wrote: “Taking this down without arresting the person who approved this structure is merely witch-hunting targeting specific individuals from a particular region. Where were the authority and all these agencies on ground today when the building was at the foundation level.”
Meanwhile, the state government earlier announced the collapse of a two-storey building at Mangoro bus stop in Alimosho Local Government Area on Wednesday evening.
At least six people reportedly sustained injuries in the incident.
Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, said one of the victims was pulled out alive but suffered a fracture and multiple bruises. He identified the injured man as a 44-year-old resident of 10 Olabode Street, Alimosho, who was immediately rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Surgical Emergency Unit for treatment.
“He arrived in stable condition and has since been admitted for further treatment,” Omotoso said in a statement.
Five other rescued victims were taken to a private hospital in the neighbourhood for medical care. https://saharareporters.com/2025/09/25/lagos-moves-bulldozers-trade-fair-complex-demolishes-several-illegal-defective

Politics › Igbo Elders Storm Abia Govt House, Demand Kanu’s Release by Slytiger(op): 6:53pm On Sep 24, 2025 |
UMUAHIA — A delegation of Igbo elders on Wednesday stormed the Abia Government House, Umuahia, demanding the “immediate and unconditional release” of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The elders, drawn from across the South East, converged at the main entrance of the Government House where they delivered their message to Governor Alex Otti.
Speaking on their behalf, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezebuiro said Kanu’s prolonged detention was no longer tolerable, citing concerns about his deteriorating health and the rising insecurity in the region.
He urged Otti to rally his fellow South East governors to lead a delegation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to press for Kanu’s release, arguing that only a united political front could influence the presidency.
“Kanu’s continued detention is of no advantage to the Federal Government. Political solution remains the only way out,” the elders said.
Another elder, Chief Chinedu Obilor, stressed that if the government could dialogue with bandits, it would be more beneficial to seek a political resolution in Kanu’s case.
Responding, Governor Otti, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Kenneth Kalu, and Chief of Staff, Caleb Ajagba, commended the elders for their peaceful approach and assured them that their grievances would be conveyed to the appropriate authorities.
Diaspora group raises alarm Meanwhile, Ikenga Think-Tank, North America, an Igbo diaspora group, has decried the worsening insecurity and what it described as “genocidal killings” in the South East.
In an open letter signed by its President, Dr. Dunkwu Agbambu, the group accused Igbo political elites of silence over Kanu’s detention and the insecurity ravaging the region.
It condemned what it called the “targeted killings and unlawful persecution of Igbo youths,” accusing security agencies of complicity. The group demanded:
- Immediate release of Kanu and mass release of all Biafran agitators.
- Concrete steps to secure Igbo land from external and internal threats.
- Withdrawal of all military checkpoints in the region.
The letter faulted Igbo leaders for failing to emulate the courage of their forebears, accusing them of betrayal and complicity.
“Your deafening silence emboldens the perpetrators of this genocide and exposes your indifference to the sacred blood of our people. History will not remember you kindly,” the group warned.
It vowed to continue documenting the crisis in the South East, saying leaders would one day be held accountable for their actions and inactions. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2025/09/igbo-elders-storm-abia-govt-house-demand-kanus-release/

LASG ENGAGES COMPUTER VILLAGE STAKEHOLDERS ON RELOCATION TO KATANGOWAThe Lagos State Government has engaged stakeholders of the Computer Village, Ikeja, on the proposed relocation of the market to the ICT and Business Park, Katangowa, Agbado Oke-Odo.
The Permanent Secretary, Office of Urban Development, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, who spoke during the meeting at the market square, Otigba Street, Ikeja on Monday, said that the meeting was at the behest of the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, who directed that there should be an inclusive process in which beneficiaries play an active role in the ongoing relocation effort.
"In line with the Governor’s directive and to demonstrate the openness and transparency of the Lagos State Government, we have brought this meeting to you in your market for the first time since the commencement of the exercise some 15 years ago", he said.
Oki said that the administration of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu was committed to the speedy completion of the relocation exercise as it was expediting action on the construction of the ultramodern ICT and Business Park and its complementary facilities such as hotels, banking hall, recreation centre, car parks, fire station, police post and access roads, among others.
He said that moving the ICT business from Ikeja, whose original residential status had been bastardised by the organic growth of business activities, to the purpose-built ICT and Business Park, Katangowa would offer a win-win situation to both the government and the traders, especially in the areas of business optimisation and a serene environment.
He urged stakeholders of the computer village to embrace the good gestures of the Lagos State Government and cooperate fully to facilitate speedy and seamless movement to the designated site to take maximum advantage of opportunities therein.
He enjoined them to henceforth bring back sanity to the Ikeja computer village suburb by desisting from trading on the street or displaying wares on the road, road setbacks, or drainage setbacks, while assuring them of the State Government’s commitment to sustainable, people-focused urban development.
Director of Urban Development, Tpl. Olalekan Odujebe and Tpl. Olayinka Bello made a presentation that highlighted ongoing efforts and benefits inherent in the relocation exercise.
The Iyaloja of the Market, Chief (Mrs.) Abisola Azeez expressed gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for the initiative, adding that the relocation, when completed, would further enhance the market's potential and provide a more conducive environment for traders and customers.
Also at the meeting were the General Manager, Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA), Tpl. Oladimeji Animashaun; Coordinating Director, Lagos State Building Control Agency, (LASBCA), Builder Florence Gbaye; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Urban Development, Mr. Segun Williams and Executive members of the Computer village market association.

Christlike01: I’m from the Dosumu lineage — a descendant of Eshugbayi Eleko, who reigned from 1901 to 1925, and again from 1931 to 1932. I’m a true blue blood — a royal from Lagos Island. I must also add that I’m a descendant of Oduduwa, with ancestral roots in Ile-Ife.
I can accept this white lady as a Lagosian, but I can’t — and will never — accept an Igbo person as a Lagosian, regardless of their migration history. I am Yoruba; I share nothing in common with anyone from across the Niger River. Same here. I am from Ifako Ijaiye. My town in the Western region was carved into Lagos state during during state creation. I am Yoruba through and through. |

AMINDA: Here we go again with the ethnic baiting that all pseudo-spokesmen and supporters of the president are now known to exhibit. This is a coordinated strategy for Tinubu to use hate to galvanise vote, especially in his Southwest region. Online, Agbadorians are denying the usage of the word "Owambe" now, claiming it's "Owanbe" and accusing an artist of cultural misappropriation just because she's Igbo. In the end, the chickens will eventually come home to roost. Ibos are trying to steal that too. I don't blame them. |
