Politics › Re: Why Kemi Badenoch’s Remarks Won’t Affect Nigeria – Daniel Bwala by SmartyPants(m): 7:10pm On Jan 20, 2025
DaughterOfAllah:
I'm sorry, but this assertion of yours, apart from being trite and unfounded is unnecessarily reductionist. Irrespective of her intentions, which you guys seem more concerned about than the substance of her statements, everything she said has real-world implications! Investors, policymakers, and international observers aren't concerned with Kemi's internalized racism or her political machinations. That's not their cup of tea. They're concerned with the picture she has painted of Nigeria's abysmal government. So instead of opting for your facile "that's just politics cop-out, glibly dismissing the fact that there's an overweight elephant standing in the middle of the room, it would do you and basically all of us a lot more good to actually address what she said, examine the facts and deciding if they're baseless or backed by the evidence. What is not helpful is this spurious ad hominems you guys keep hurling about. Apart from indicating intellectual laziness and/or dishonesty, it begs to wonder if some of you are just too invested in your own partisan narratives to acknowledge the obvious.
This pile of irritating garbage you have typed up there presupposes that anyone, international partners, the common man, or anyone else, goes to Kemi Badenoch for opinions on Nigeria. She's irrelevant in that scheme of things as the issues are obvious. As was this very point.

Every educated person understands that Kemi is playing to the gallery. She is a first generation African migrant trying to become prime minister of the UK.

Of course she wants to be seen as more British than Nigerian so she must tear down what she is in order to become what wants.

That is politics.

Go to the Chinese, Japanese or Germans and introduce English as their first language.
Who are the peolke excelling globally?
Few people out of 1 billion Africans is what you call excelling? Average Japanese on the street is way smarter than you a million times simply because he studied with Japanese methods and systems. Those people you think are excelling still have to go to oversea to fine tune whatever they studied in Nigeria. How many people have that opportunity?
I will tell you again that you don't have this excuse. The average Japanese may be way smarter than you, certainly not me.

You have started shifting goalposts because you have no point. First you said not learning in one's own language is a hindrance. Now you are saying those who excel are those who travel abroad to learn -- abroad where you are even further away from your own language. Your arguments are all over the place because they are just excuses.

In any case, those Nigerians who do travel abroad for further education obviously had their primary and secondary education in Nigeria. That implies 12 years of foundational education. If we agree that Nigerian education is so bad, that means by the time they arrive abroad, they are essentially at least 6 years behind their peers. Do you mean to tell me it is 4 years of tertiary education that magically turns things around?

Don't let excuses consume you.

You don't have this excuse. At the time you were born English was certainly introduced to you as a first language even if it was done alongside other languages. The Nigerians who are excelling globally, including this man, had the same exposure. Stop it.

Who cares.

Who you are will be always greater than your origin.

My position at all time.
I don't need to know you to know that you have achieved a lot or will definitely achieve a lot in this life. The easiest way to spot a man who will achieve big things is that he places the onus of greatness on himself.

In stark contrast, those who have no achievements or great aspirations tend to derive their sense of importance from external factors, like a sense of belonging to a group of other people who have done great things.

See talk. lol. A banking officer with 7 years of experience will make about 1mn or more depending on the bank. A mid level lawyer at a top 10 law firm will make more than that. It's not about providing here. A lot of those mothers can feed the child and even the so called man.

The issue is them being looked down on. No man wants to marry them.

Most of you men are liabilities we all know that.

Meaning women dominate the economy. The same women will turn around and claim patriarchy is keeping them down. This gender eh! cheesy

Politics › Re: The Mistakes Of The Jan 15 1966 Coup Plotters by SmartyPants(m): 5:58pm On Jan 17, 2025
danvon:
I think this section is too dramatic and sentimental, I wish we can start studying politics, their mistakes and success without any emotion, regardless of whether you believed it was right or wrong.

The Coup Plotters mistakes

1. Overextension: The coup plotters overestimated themselves, Nigeria back then was a regional system, this meant that power was not located in the centre, capturing Lagos had little value on its own, the coup plotters needed to capture the capitals of each region namely Kaduna, Ibadan and Enugu to have proper authority and they simply did not command enough troops to make this happen. (Benin didn't have political value at this point since the Midwest was newly created) , They only successfully captured Kaduna.

2. Killing Tafawa Balewa: Tafawa Balewa was the prime minister of Nigeria but the truth is that just like Azikiwe, he was a symbolic figure, the true power lied with the president of the NPC which was Ahmadu Bello, arresting Tafawa Balewa would have been a more smarter strategy, and according to Ademoyega this was the actual plan. Killing Ahmadu Bello however was a smart move since he was powerful enough to incite troops and public support against the coup plotters.

3. Not isolating communication: They should have tried to disrupt the communication between the politicians and soldiers, the fact that Akintola knew something was up and was prepared, was a bad omen, in a proper coup, he should have never found out something was up until they came for him. Again this lack of proper disruption led to Aguiyi Ironsi being informed and he then launch his own coup using the chaos and structure the Jan 15 coup plotters created.

4. Not enlisting a superpower: Tafawa Balewa was well liked by the British, there's no way they would have sit back and let him be toppled, if the coup plotters had succeeded, the British would have frustrated them. Dimka who plotted the coup against Murtala Mohammed was smart enough to get British blessing before embarking on the quest, the British liked Gowon and blatantly refused to hand him over for the military trial that ensued after Dimka coup failed. The coup plotters should have tried to get London support, perhaps by promising some concessions.

Can you add yours?
Your first mistake is in writing as though all the coup plotters had the same objectives and plans. They did not.

Nzeogwu and Ademoyega made the same mistake.

He doesn't sugarcoat his preachings to make you feel good and scream "Ride on sir".

He preaches that part most Nigerian pastors are scared of preaching to avoid loosing members.

His one and only goal in life is to make heaven when he dies.

Holiness for which no man shall see God.
But even tho I kind of disgree with some of his views about watching t.v,wearing earrings for females and trousers I still got great respect for him.

gidgiddy:
All this has nothing to do with the challenge Nnamdi Kanu set. The court of appeal discharged and ordered that Kanu be released. The government ran to the same Appeal court to ask that court to stay its own judgement while it appealed that judgement at the Supreme court

What Kanu is asking is where has it happened that a person is set free by a court, you ask that same court to temporarily keep the person it already freed, in jail, while you appeal at a higher court? How can any person ask a court to suspend its own judgement so they can appeal elsewhere?

I have never heard of such judicial rascality in my life, and I'm sure no Law student has either
Can we have a copy of the ruling staying his release?

Politics › Re: Anioma Shouldn't Join SE But Nzeogwu That Led The Coup Is From Anioma by SmartyPants(m): 5:33pm On Jan 16, 2025
Primary school level of thinking.

SE is an area. Igbo is an ethnicity. A person can be from an ethnic group without being from the area where that ethnic group is dominant, just like Yorubas in Kwara and Kogi are not from the Soth West where most Yorubas come from.

That aside, the decision of whether to create an Anioma state and join it to the South East is not bad if the Anioma people wish so, and if they go without grabbing other's land.

This is what greed and over ambition lead too. He will now be sacked as a lawmaker. Don't outshine your masters. Since Seyi was rumored to be position has the next Lagos governor, smart politician who has interest, keep it to their chest and watch has event unfold before public indication. Obasa was faster than his shadow and he will be badly damaged beyond expectations. Fear politicians. Just because he want to contest, he was disrespecting a sitting governor and boasting of been better than previous one and he forget the head of mafia unit in Lagos, was once a governor and now the president.
Sacked for what offense exactly? It seems you know more about the story...did he claim to have been enrolled or what was his precise offence?
Politics › Re: Supreme Court Document Reveals No Record Of Obasa's Legal Enrollment by SmartyPants(m): 3:52pm On Jan 16, 2025
Obasa had claimed to have received a bachelor’s degree in Law from Lagos State University, Lagos, in 2006. However, an anonymous person on July 23, 2020 wrote the apex court seeking to confirm if the name of Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa was contained in the Rolls of Legal Practitioners at the apex court.
This doesn't make sense. If Obasa's claim was to have graduated from the University of Lagos, then why are you checking for his enrollment at the Supreme Court? Not everyone who reads law decides to practice or even go to Law School.

Did he claim to have been enrolled? Or is it that he has been practicing law? I really don't get the thrust of this story.

Y'all think STD only happens through VJ penetration? Dude! Once you come in contact with any bodily fluid, doesn't matter which hole the fluid comes out of... You are at risk already.

You can get HIV through BJ folks
The likelihood of this happening is close to zero. This is because saliva does not transmit HIV. There would have to be significant quantities of blood emitted by the giver plus an open wound in the receiver.

However, there are other STDs that can indeed be passed by MouthAction.
Romance › Re: Social Media And The Hypocrisy Of Many Nigerian Men by SmartyPants(m): 4:33pm On Jan 15, 2025
Rapmoney:
I have come across many Nigerian men, both young and middle age, who are always in the habit of criticizing young women on social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok, etc, for exposing their bodies and twerking. The common lines you hear are 'These ones still get parents'?...'Useless girls'...'Ehen, that's the only thing they can offer'...'See them, fish brain'...'Ashawo'...'Olosho', etc.

When you visit the pages of these same women that are constantly being abused, you will be amazed by the number of followers they have. Some of them have millions of followers while others have followers running into hundreds of thousands.

My question is: Who are the people following these women? Are their followers ghosts? You cannot tell me that majority of their followers are women, because the truth is that their twerking and body exposure attract more men than women to their pages! You will criticize publicly but follow them secretly like perverts, in order to be among the first to see their videos, and end up calling men who say the slightest positive thing about these women names like SIMPS and the likes.

This type of hypocrisy is terrible and stinks like rotten eggs! Make una dey try abeg. Stop criticizing the food that you secretly salivate over.
Arguments like these are ridiculous. There are at least 4 billion men on the planet. Do you expect all to share the same opinions??

If Peter criticizes naked women on social media but John follows the same naked women on social media, has either of them spoken or acted for all men?

Clearly some men dislike it. Some men don't. And a few men in the middle are guilty of the hypocrisy you talk about.

Oga ITK, rest! You mean they visited all the hotels in Lagos, counted their rooms and computed the amounts they made in December? So, why did the newspapers keep reporting different figures? You dey shame me!
Yes, you should be ashamed of yourself as this is a basic market research method frequently used in consulting. You don't need to visit every hotel and count their rooms.

You simply need total number of visitors adjusted for those who may stay outside hotels, and the average cost of a hotel room.

I hope this is not sounding like rocket science to you?

And as I've just told you, the figures don't need to be precise. This is called guesstimating. Don't be too stubborn to learn.

What is the relationship between Airforce response time and Airforce projection capability? Projection capability is a function of range.
