Nwankwo Kanu does his bit to save Portsmouth. What a show of an impeccable sportsmanship!

Portsmouth legend Nwankwo Kanu has written off a £3million debt to help save the club.

After leaving Pompey last year, the former Nigerian international reportedly commenced a lawsuit to recover an estimated £3million owed to him by the club where he had a successful six-year stint, which included the winning goal in the 2008 FA Cup Final.

However, Kanu has dismissed talks of a lawsuit by disclosing that he has long since written off the debt against Portsmouth, who are currently engulfed in a financial crises which has seen them drop into the third tier of English football.

“I can now reveal the story that has been around since I left Portsmouth,” he said. “I did not ask the club for millions of Pounds; I dropped the whole matter of wage money because I know the club has big problems.”

Kanu, who has remained unattached since leaving Pompey, also hinted on his retirement plans.

“The reason I have not returned is because I feel it is time for me to hang my boots up as a player. I will be coaching and promoting my foundation through football.

“The thing that makes me the most mad is that the media have got the story completely wrong. Life goes on and forgiveness is number one for me. I just enjoy life and hope the best for my former team,” the former Arsenal and Inter Milan star disclosed.

Police in South Africa have launched a murder hunt after a woman on honeymoon with her British husband was found dead after being abducted by armed men in Cape Town.
The 28-year-old victim and her husband of two weeks were travelling in a taxi, near a major township, when the carjackers stopped the vehicle.

They forced the driver out of the people carrier before speeding off with the couple inside.

At midnight the attackers dropped the woman's 31-year-old British husband unharmed in the township of Khayelitsha, on the outskirts of Cape Town.

He alerted police, who launched a search and found the abandoned car the next morning with his wife's dead body lying on the back seat.

Speaking to Sky News, Alan Winde, tourism minister for the Western Cape, said the couple had been at an evening function outside the city in the wineland region.

"They were returning to the city at 10pm and they asked the driver to take them to a very well known hotspot in Guguletu," he said.

"It sounds as though they had gone a little off course when the carjacking took place."

He said the people carrier was discovered at around 7am in the Lingelethu West area, southeast of the city centre.

A statement from police said a post-mortem to establish the cause of death was set to take place.

Police did not release the identities of the honeymooners, who arrived in South Africa on Friday.

The 31-year-old man is a British citizens and his bride was a foreign national living in the UK.

South Africa has one of the highest crime rates in the world, with about 46 murders a day.

The statistic led to a massive increase in security during the 2010 World Cup, which attracted thousands of tourists.

Authorities in the scenic Western Cape, one of the nation's top tourist destinations, urged visitors and locals to be "prepared for potential danger".

Mr Winde and the community minister Albert Fritz released a joint statement following the death.

"We are deeply saddened by the murder of a British tourist, shortly after the vehicle she and her husband were being driven in was hijacked," they said.

"He (the husband) was pushed from the vehicle and survived the ordeal.

"The fact that there has not been a major incident since the start of the 2010 Fifa World Cup is no consolation."

Mr Fritz appealed for information to help hunt down the abductors, adding: "This could have happened to any of our loved ones.

"It is important that communities become involved in doing the right thing."

I really understand how some of us feel when we've invested our money, time and energy into an organization and don't get anything from it. Right from the onset i was a

leading member and a pioneer of AVRIS i actually designed the adverts used in most of the dailies for AVRIS but halfway things really got nasty as a result of highly

placed mismanagement by those at the helms of affairs and even those who were recruited.

AVRIS a was to provide prompt rescue assistance and initial medical treatment to victims of automobile accidents nationwide as well as information to relatives of such

unfortunate travelers about the accidents and its victims. Collection and provision of necessary detailed personal information for ease of identification and medical follow

up in the event of emergency or accident on land, rail, sea or airports and to keep and update statistics of all Nigerian travellers, for easy provision of information to

financial, educational institutions and Government agencies when necessary. To achieve that mission we had to designed an Emergency Identification Card to register

every traveller and collate data that are collected from the exercise. This card enables us supply relevant information to hospitals and doctors that would eventually treat

rescued accident victims and have access to details about relatives of those involved in accidents. Registration for card was 500 Naira when i joined but had to go up to

1000 naira because of the consumables and renewable annually.

At a point the organization was doing well, they even surpassed what FRSC would have achieved. I have scores of pictures of serious accident cases with me. However,

problem started when too many people were recruited as marketers of which 95% never showed up with the emergency identification cards given to them for public

subscription carting away with millions of naira. The leadership was also highly criticized for venturing into an elephant project without proper check and balances which

ultimately wrecked the project. Some loyalist like my humble self had to resign since we could not reach a compromise with the derailing administration but from what i

heard recently there may be light at the end of the tunnel. Let keep our fingers crossed!

Quite a shame that even those who can't spell their names will criticize a man who selflessly served his father land well. Get a life and stop sulking.
