Police in Kiambu County, Kenya have arrested a 26-year-old man, who allegedly killed his girlfriend on Wednesday, February 26, in Ruaka.

Tairus Mwangi, who is a prison warder at Malindi GK Prison in Kilifi County, is alleged to have bludgeoned Purity Karwirwa multiple times in the head, nose and back using a hammer.

Mwangi and 26-year-old Karwirwa dated for one-and-a-half years, and their relationship which began on Facebook, was riddled with unending dispute, the deceased’s brother, Erick Kimathi, told K24 Digital on Saturday, February 29.

Kimathi revealed that his sister, who earned a living from online writing, would often visit her lover at his Malindi workstation.

“Their relationship was full of physical abuse, with the suspect often being the aggressor,” said Kimathi.

Karwirwa, according to the brother, — of late — stayed at her friend’s place in Donholm, Nairobi.

FIFA have confirmed that new steps have been taken to reform the transfer system in football.

At a meeting held in Zurich with the FIFA Football Stakeholders Committee – which includes representatives from clubs, leagues, players and member associations – a new decision has been taken to introduce a new system for training rewards and limits on loan players.

The committee have endorsed new regulations on loan deals which would kickstart from July 2020. From the new policy, there will be limits on international loans of players aged 22 and older, with eight international loans in and out permitted for the 2020/21 season – which will reduced to six loans in and out by the 2022/23 season, with a maximum of three loans in and three out between the same clubs.

Mary Mwikali (in sleeveless top), who was arraigned at the Malindi High Court, admitted to killing her lover on January 28 in Malindi, shocking court attendees.

Mary Mwikali Kavuu, the main suspect in the murder of German national, Detering Herman, 78, on Tuesday almost made a big blunder after she — temporarily — pleaded guilty to killing her lover.



Mwikali, who was arraigned at the Malindi High Court, admitted to killing her lover on January 28 in Malindi, shocking court attendees.

However, High Court Judge Reuben Nyakundi, sensed that Mwikali had not understood the charge read, which had been read to her in English language.

Self-defense

Mwikali had, initially, suggested that she killed Herman while defending herself.

“I saved myself from death, self and defense (sic). It is true [I killed Herman],” she said.

On sensing that that a plea of guilty was going to be entered by the judge, the suspect’s lawyer, Enrica Ruto, who was also shocked, leaned over to the dock and informed Mwikali that she had, actually, admitted to killing Herman.

A perplexed Mwikali immediately said she did not mean to plead guilty to the charge, and that she had “limited understanding of English language”.

justice Reuben Nyakundi decided to reread the charges to Mwikali, this time around in Swahili language, and not English. Mwikali pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The judge set March 24 as the date for trial. Meanwhile, the suspect remains remanded at Mtangani Maximum Prison.

Plea-taking date postponed

Last Thursday (February 20), Mwikali’s plea-taking was postponed after the court learnt that she hadn’t undergone mental assessment.

Mwikali, 32, appeared before the Malindi High Court Judge Reuben Nyakundi.

The State prosecutor, Barbara Sombo, applied to have Mwikali subjected to mental examination to ascertain her fitness to stand trial.

Sombo told the court that Mombasa has only one doctor who conducts mental tests, and is only available on Mondays. The State prosecutor, therefore, requested the court to have the suspect arraigned on Tuesday, February 25.

A 30 year old man, Audu Abdullahi alongside two others has been arrested by the Lagos State Police for allegedly stabbing his employer, raping his wife and stealing their valuables.

Audu who was employed just over a week had carried out the plan with the help of two others who he said were his friends.


The incident happened at No 48, Agboyi Road Alapere Ketu, Lagos.

Nemesis caught up with them while driving away the car, they were apprehended at Alapere estate as they could not give a satisfactory response about the ownership of the car and the valuables in it.

A Ghanaian female footballer, Berekisu Tejani, who played for National Women’s League side Sea Lions Ladies FC has finally been laid to rest.

Her remains were laid to rest in a boot-shaped coffin at the weekend.


The midfielder who was battling with an illness passed on Friday, January 3 at age 20.

Berekisu Tejani was not only a footballer but was also a 100-level student of the University of Cape Coast.
