Are budgets really necessary? Historically, budgets have been an essential tool for companies to plan and control their finances. However, in today's fast-paced business environment, the static nature of budgets can be a limitation. Markets are dynamic, and sudden changes in the business landscape can render budgets obsolete. This is where rolling forecasts come in. Rolling forecasts are a more flexible and dynamic approach to financial planning. They allow companies to adjust their projections based on real-time information, providing a more accurate and up-to-date picture of their financial health. By using rolling forecasts, companies can make more informed decisions and react quickly to changes in the market, ultimately improving their financial performance. So does that mean budgeting should be stopped? No. Budgeting is still very helpful, but for the right reasons. Budgeting helps: - Validate expenses - Align understanding - Increase accountability - Create an annual plan But when it comes to controlling your business, the rolling forecast is much more relevant. That being the case, my budgeting approach is really an annual deeper dive into the rolling forecast. I continue to compare actual results and forecast against the budget, where the purpose is to understand changes. But decisions are made on the forecast. |

Quick one: This is for ladies just starting off their careers. You are capable, you are strong and you are the real deal. Take on that challenge. That’s something men do better at but we must rise to it too. When there’s an opportunity for visibility, take it. Think about managing it later. Speak up confidently, build lasting professional relationships and demand for growth opportunities at your place of work. If there is a high profile client/project, demand to be put on it (I cannot emphasize this enough). Don’t downplay your achievements; own it, it is yours, carry it with pride. Again, ask for what you want unapologetically while being warm and pleasant. Most importantly, know your allies and stick with them. They help you grow and they support you in your career. You already know how I feel about seeing you grow astronomically; that makes me your ally, so stick with me (Haha). #orebukola |
Just starting off your career? Build credibility. The best opportunity you have to gain trust and build credibility is in the first few weeks & months of starting a new job or a new project. That opportunity can also present itself when you have been assigned a new team or a new boss. All cylinders are burning. Your best, the very best is what you must bring on board. Once you have gained the trust, that’s it. You have established your presence, your competence, reliability and your potential. Those are very important and they are the determining factors for a lot of things including the growth opportunities that will be made available for you in the near future. In those first few weeks or months, you would have grown considerably yourself because of how dedicated and committed you are. When you have gotten to that point where you can be trusted to get through things without massive hand holding, you can then determine what consistency in performance looks like for you without burning out. At this point, you would have also created good relationships that you can depend on to work on your own terms. This is a practical tip that will help you survive in a highly pressured workplace. You need people to support you and for them to do that, they need to trust you first and you will have to prove that to them beyond reasonable doubt. Ps: If you are in the first five years of your career and you need a mentor, please send me a message and I will respond to you at my earliest chance |
Speaking up is an important part of ensuring safety, whether it is in the workplace, in a social setting, or even in your own personal life. When you speak up about potential dangers or concerns, you can help prevent accidents, injuries, or even more serious harm from occurring. It can sometimes be intimidating or uncomfortable to speak up, especially if you feel like you might be perceived as overreacting or causing trouble. But it is important to remember that your safety and the safety of those around you should always be a top priority. If you notice something that doesn't feel right or seems dangerous, it is always better to err on the side of caution and speak up. Remember that speaking up doesn't necessarily mean creating conflict or making a scene. You can approach the situation calmly and respectfully, expressing your concerns in a way that shows that you care about the well-being of everyone involved. In many cases, simply bringing attention to a potential danger can help prevent it from becoming a serious issue. Speaking up is an important way to promote safety and protect yourself and those around you. Don't be afraid to use your voice and speak out when you notice something that could be a potential danger or risk. |
