Me I still believe that 2024 Afcon final match was fixed...
As in super eagles were settled out of champion ..

Cos I don't know what went wrong with the super eagles who just reluctantly dashed the little joy Nigerians had suddenly

Sincerely, this is the only explanation I could give myself when I think about the game. Or perhaps, there was a kind of threat somewhere.
Sports / Re: Ivory Coast Are AFCON 2023 Champions by SMREXY(m): 11:42pm On Feb 11
Why do Nigerians complain so much when things don't go their ways. Everyone has his/her day, today just wasn't that of the Super Eagles. It's nauseating to see several unnecessary posts based on emotional sentiments flood the internet space. That our players didn't win today doesn't mean they didn't put in their best, the opponents were simply better. More so, mistakes are what make football games interesting, because without them there definitely won't be winners. Let's absorb our errors and forge ahead.

Stop dissing blame cards to the Super Eagles... remember they made it this far against all odds.

Either Equitoria Guinea win or not Super Eagles will still qualify provided we avoid defeat to Ivory Coast. EQG on 4points now , Ivory Coast on 3 points and a draw against NIG will give them 4points and Naija on 2 points if we draw and GNB will be on Opoints. Then next match EQG battles with Ivory Coast and NIG with GNB. Which ever results from both will be either 5 points each or 7-4 respectively which leaves NIG to 5points so we qualify

Dike987:
Today was mass denial, literally everyone including myself was denied in Lagos.

Here is my transcript with the Fat Hairy Man

Dike: Good morning officer
VO: (Smiling) Good morning and please can I have your I-20
Dike: Here you go officer
VO: Why did you choose this course
Dike: I chose this course because my country has a problem with crime and with criminology I get to know why this crimes are being created, I get to know how they are being committed and the most important thing I get to how to tackle it as I am very passionate about the safety of my country
VO: Why did you choose this school?
Dike: I chose this school because it has a criminal research center and with this, it will expose how criminal minds work to me as I will be taught with criminal cases and this will also prepare me to tackle criminal and crimes in the real world and most importantly my beloved country
VO: What’s your post graduate plan
Dike: To come back home to work with one of the top two agencies fighting crime which are Efcc and Dss (I told this man the full acronym ooo) he nodded as if say 🥹🥹🥹
VO: Then he asked me who will be sponsoring and what does he do
Dike: I said my dad and after he asked what he does for a living, I answered and said he owns a company na so this man ask how many workers, just to say something which I told I am wrong I told him 1k workers!! He screamed 1000 na so baba say sorry bla bla

I felt bad but then you need to see how everyone was denied today, during my time there I didn’t see white paper to anyone and all windows were active

Sorry for the delay... Get your stuffs together and reapply. You might want to polish your reasons for the program and school, and what your dad do.

Even me, I screamed and laughed at the 1,000 workers. Maybe you didn't lie, the description you gave about what your dad do doesn't warrant such.

I read this transcript and it had me genuinely concerned because I am in a similar situation. I have a brother in the US who left on an F1 visa about 4 years ago, and I included his info on my DS-160. I've considered editing it out, however, there is a slight challenge. I was denied an F1 visa last year and the DS-160 I submitted also has my brother's info there.

I am currently date-searching and waiting for my Emergency Appointment to be approved. My concern/questions are: would the new VO have access to my previous DS-160? Is it possible the previous VO might have made a note on this even though it did not come up during the interview?

Please I would truly appreciate thoughts on this.

Thank you so much.

Most times, it's not so easy to establish the exact reason for a denial. However, when such reason is pointing at you so closely that you are able to identify it, the best thing is to see how best you can use it to your advantage.

Ordinarily, having a sibling legally based in the US shouldn't harm your chances but then approval is subjective to the Visa officer and how well you're able to convince him/her that your intention is not that of an immigrant.

Since you're aware of what might come your way during your interview, the best thing to do now is to prepare for it in the best way possible. Identify the strength of your profile and use it to your advantage. Your sibling must have got what it takes to be legally staying in the US, otherwise he/she would have been out of status and possibly back home. Use that to your advantage.

The fear of your woman coming over to become someone else and ruining your plans has made a lot of men looked the other way.

Another constraint is that there is a higher possibility that your spouse's visa application might take a long time to get approved or might not even be approved after several attempts. Leaving you with either returning home or continuing the marriage/relationship on a long distance basis, which isn't easy as it may seem.

This is going to be a somewhat long...

Fams, in whatever you find yourself doing, always put GOD first. Without him, your hardwork and great profile could be regarded as nothing in few seconds. Indeed, GOD is nothing but Great and Awesome... Alhamdulillahi Robbil Alamin.

Also, NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR PURSUIT FOR SUCCESS!

My first visa interview was at LAGOS and was scheduled for November 27, 2019. I had a fully funded PhD in Civil Engineering (Water Resources Option) at University of Kentucky, Lexington.

So, this was how the interview went...

Me: Good morning ma'am
VO: Good morning, pass me your passport
Me: Should I include my I-20?
VO: Pls do
VO: Why are you going to the US?
Me: I'm going to the United States of America to have my PhD. degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Kentucky in Lexington
VO: Why University of Kentucky?
Me: I got to realize, during my online search, that the University of Kentucky meets my expectations with respect to my research specialization. I realized that Dr.__ specializes in fate and transport of environmental contaminants (had the mind to express myself further but wouldn't know what killed my morale at this point, just got blank)
VO: How many schools did you apply to?
Me: I was able to complete my application to only University of Kentucky. I would have also applied to University of Colorado but my GRE score was not up to the required score of the school
VO: What's your GRE score?
Me: 300 (I proceeded to give the breakdown)
VO: What do you do?
Me: I work as an Assistant Lecturer at....
VO: What will this PhD do for you?
Me: Apart from my research, the PhD will give me the opportunity to gain promotion to the position of full Lecturer as the position I currently hold is a training position that requires further training (meanwhile, I had prepared to say something different entirely but someone gave the advice and I thought it weighed more than what I planned initially, so my subconscious took it instead)
VO: Why are you changing career
Me: No, I would not be changing career. My first and second degrees were in Water Resources Management and I intend to specialize in Water Resources Engineering during this program. Moreover, I intend to focus on water treatment, which is better handled in Civil Engineering.
VO: What do you do?
Me: I work as an Assistant Lecturer at Federal University of...
VO: What do you teach? (I couldn't hear what she was saying until the third time)
Me: I teach water related courses (I had to say this twice and later realized I should have been explicit enough)
VO: Have you traveled out of Nigeria before?
Me: No, I have never had the need to
VO: Are you married?
Me: No, I'm not
VO: Started typing...
Me: In my mind, I felt it was going to be positive as she continued to type. Then a smile appeared on my face as she opened her mouth to say the unexpected.
VO: I'm sorry I won't be able to approve your visa this time. Then she passed my passport and I-20 with a yellow paper to me.
Me: I collected them with a smile and told her thank you.

My second visa interview at ABUJA was scheduled for January 12, 2020.

Me: Good morning, Sir! How are you doing?
VO: Good morning, how are you doing?
Me: I'm doing fine, thank you.
VO: Pass me your passport and I-20
Me: Here they are.
VO: Are you employed?
Me: Yes, I work as an Assistant Lecturer at the Federal University of...
VO: Why are you going to the US?
Me: I'm going to the US to have my Doctorate degree in Civil Engineering with specialization in Water Resources Engineering at the University of Kentucky.
VO: Why this school?
Me: Apart from the full time research assistantship I was offered, which covers my tuition fee with a generous stipend that covers my living expenses, the school meets my expectations with respect to research specialization. My guidance, Dr... who specializes in the fate and transport of environmental contaminants and their treatments also specializes in Water Disinfection, which is a problem I intend to tackle when I am back to Nigeria after my programme in the US.
VO: What do you do?
Me: I work as an Assistant Lecturer at the Federal University of... where I teach water related courses such as Water Quality Assessment and Pollution Control, Principles of Irrigation, Hydraulic structures and Elements of Hydrology. I am also a researcher by default (I had a letter from my Registrar but I didn't remember to mention it).
VO: How many schools did you apply to?
Me: I completed my application to University of Kentucky. Though I also have a pending application at Steven's Institute of Technology
VO: Are you married?
Me: No
VO: Have you traveled out of Nigeria before?
Me: No, I never had the need to.
VO: Sorry, bla bla bla
Me: May I please know why I was denied?
VO: It's written on the paper
Me: Thank you

The third one was at LAGOS on June 1, 2021 for a different programme and school.

VO: Good morning, how are you doing?
Me: Good morning, I'm doing fine. How are you doing too?
VO: Good, thank you. Pass me your passport and I-20.
Me: I did as instructed
VO: (Typed and glanced through his system and my I-20 for a while) I can see that you are going to Kent State University for a PhD in Geology.
Me: Yes please.
VO: How did you learn about the school?
Me: I used Google search and USnews.com to search and narrow down the schools that offer my course of interest.
VO: Why the school?
Me: Thank you for this question. Firstly, I will like to let you know that Kent State University offered me a full-time Graduate Teaching Assistantship position that fully covers my tuition fee and living expenses including 70% of my health insurance as you can see on my I-20. Also, I was able to establish a research correspondence with Dr... who was excited to receive my mail after mailing him to inform him about joining his research team towards conducting a research on the modeling of hyporheic zone which is the interface between surface water and groundwater systems and allows for the exchange of both organic and inorganic pollutants. Also, I should let you know that the school initiated a platform known as flashfriends that allows for the interactions between current and prospective graduate students to enable the sharing of information about the school and all, which was very helpful during my application process.
VO: I can see that you've been refused twice, 2019 and 2020.
Me: Yes, that's true for the same program in Spring 2020
VO: Which school was that? (I didn't hear well so I asked to be sure)
Me: That's University of Kentucky
VO: You applied for Water Resources Engineering then, why Geology now?
Me: Thank you for this beautiful question. I should let you know that my major, which is Water Resources Management, is an interdisciplinary course that cuts across geology, hydrology, civil engineering and environmental science including climate science. So I am going for the Geology aspect which will allow me conduct a research on the modeling of the interaction between surface water and groundwater systems which is similar to the research I intended to conduct with my PhD at University of Kentucky. (All this while he kept typing and wouldn't say anything). So I chipped in this... Also, I was unable to sustain my funding at University of Kentucky due to COVID.
VO: How did you get this great funding?
Me: Thank you. I believe the admission committee must have been greatly impressed with my academic excellence and research capability. I completed my first degree with a First class and my second degree which is a Master's degree with distinction grade. Also, I'm quite sure my recommenders must have submitted excellent recommendation letters on my behalf because they know me quite well having worked with them while they were HOD of my department where I currently work as an Assistant Lecturer. So they know about my capabilities quite well.
VO: Are you married?
Me: No, I'm single
VO: Do you have kids?
Me: No, I don't
VO: Typed for a while that I was already hoping I got the Visa this time... Then blah blah blah
Me: Felt bad, said thank you, then left.

The interview lasted longer than this as he was just typing, typing and typing. I noticed his countenance at some point while he was reading through something on his system so I have a feeling that the issue is from my profile which I wouldn't know what it is. The denial was quite shocking because I was not expecting it throughout the period our conversation lasted.

Now the fourth and the FINAL...

I wouldn't know how, but God perfected everything. The next 2 days after my last denial was my birthday. I checked my visa portal to see what's up and luckily, I saw first available date "June 28, 2021". I thought I was dreaming because the date appeared too close for a recent denial (that's a freaking 27 days after last interview). With faith, I rushed to pay another MRV fee and I was fortunate to still have the date intact at LAGOS Embassy.

What if I tell you that I do not really have a transcript to share for my fourth interview. I mean my experience was nothing but God's mercy. At the utterance of my first response, I was already about to give up because I realized I was in no way at my peak. However, God was merciful enough to change the story for me.

So, I was scheduled for 11:30 am but I left my hotel around 8 am. To locate me became an issue for my bolt driver so I spent several minutes trying to get him to find me. That didn't get me worried though because I felt I still had enough time since it's just a 25 minutes drive to the embassy. Eventually, I was able to capture him after he had passed me again. Thank God I saw his car colour and plate number on the app. I eventually got to the embassy arena and had my bag and phone kept with one of those business oriented fellows... If government no provide job at least some people thought it well to earn through a legit means other than scam and related ways. Meanwhile, they were not even considering the scheduled time of interview so I was just passed in for document verification. It's like not much people were fixed for today because the population was not so much as my first but more than my third.

After the whole waiting, I was eventually led with four other people into the interview hall. It was then I realized that people plenty small o... But still not as much as my first.

When it got to data capturing, the lady asked me when I took my passport photograph and if I had used it for a previous interview. Since the latter response was a yes, that's how she gave me a note to go and snap another one outside o. Thank God they already have a guy on standby in the waiting arena who was charging just #1,000. I went back in after I got the new passport and I completed the process. Then comes another long wait for finger print capture. That's how oyinbo's computer no wan capture my fingerprints o. I was like abi my international passport is fake ni abi dem don ban my passport ni... don't mind me, it's not a good thing to have visited the embassy several times without approval. He had to restart his system and apologized for the delay, then I felt a lil relief that the problem ain't from my end. At last the system came on and fingerprints were captured successfully.

Finally joined the last que for interview proper, then I started viewing different VO-Applicant interactions proper. In this life, until GOD says it is your time, my brother and sister just continue to have patience o because this visa approval/denial of a thing could make a denied best student feel like losing all hope. Some guys with strong case and everything intact, the next thing sorry blah blah blah. While some with shaky voice and less effort will just get it ...boom... visa has been approved! There was the case of a guy who had previously went to US twice for tourism and spent 6 good months without any good reason to bail himself out. Mehn the VO tackled the guy till the end o even as he was trying to tender other high grade certificates to cover up his flaws. At last he was rejected and everyone kinda laughed because it was turning to a drama between them.

Meanwhile, there were 4 VOs (one was like a part-time because she wasn't really stable at the window but she eventually became my super hero).

I was checking out the scenarios at each of the windows but didn't let what was happening affect my morale because a lot of drama was happening for whoever is ready to laugh and some set of people were actually deriving joy from it. All the while, I just kept praying to God for mercy because after my 3rd interview, I knew what was left for me in this sojourn is nothing but Allah's mercy. I wasn't having any VO in particular in mind but was praying that I get interviewed by the VO that will be willing to allow God use him/her for my case. Thankfully, I got God's mercy in a miraculous way and my prayers were fully answered.

When it was almost my turn, there's a guy in my front that was about stepping to window 2 (or so) where the part-time VO is but was beckoned on to move to one of the active VO window where dramas were happening. This left me open for the window 2. I got there and the following happened...

Me: Good morning ma'am (with a smile)
VO: Good morning
Me: How are you doing ma'am?
VO: I am doing fine (with a smile)... Maybe she likes my attire because I wore native
VO: Pass me your documents.
Me: *(After getting rejected 3 times without me being asked if I have any document from my employer, a friend advised that I include it with my I-20 and fake ignorance. After all you've been denied before so it's no new thing, the most the VO will do is to return it)* So, I folded the letter of introduction I got from my Registrar (stating that I'm a bonafide staff of the Institution with my job role, including that I am expected back at my job after the programme) and placed it in front of my I-20 in-between my international passport, then passed it to her.

VO: (Luckily for me that was the first thing she saw) She removed the letter and glaced through it so swiftly as if she didn't read anything and returned it back to me that she doesn't need it. In my mind I was like... *chai mama don vex o*
Me: Collected it and felt as if nothing has really happened.

VO: Why did you choose this school?
(Me that I already have a good proposed response for such question just realized that nothing was in my head again o, but at least went ahead to say the rubbish English that my mouth could speak at that time)
Me: I chose the school because among the schools that I applied to Kent State University had my focus with respect to course interest and research focus. I currently work as an Assistant Lecturer (VO cuts in...)

VO: that's okay, you work as an Assistant Lecturer? Where?
Me: At the Federal University of... in...

VO: Okay! What will this degree do for you?
Me: As an Assistant Lecturer, it is expected that I ensure (VO cuta in again)

VO: Where did you say you work again?
Me: Federal University of... in...

VO: Checked something on her system, then was like University of what did you say?
Me: Federal University of... in... In fact I have a letter from my Registrar incase you wish to see.

VO: No, I don't need that. Who is paying for your education?
Me: The school offered me a Graduate Teaching Assistantship position that comes with tuition fee waiver and a generous stipend which I am grateful for that covers my living expenses and 70% of my health insurance leaving me with a deficit of $1,835.

VO: So who is paying for the balance?
Me: I will be covering that with my personal savings.

VO: Checked my I-20 and was like 'Okay'

I was just staring at her. That's how she carried my passport and dropped it inside a box and removed a white paper o. Then she faced her system and started reading through what's there. Then everything started looking like a film trick. She wasn't really happy with what she's seeing there. So she took out my passport from the box and also picked my I-20. At this point, I became really scared and started saying all prayers that my mouth could say. Thank God there's nose mask to shield my mouth's movement. All I was asking for was God's mercy as much as I could. She eventually stepped out to speak with someone I was not seeing, but it was obvious she was soliciting for a consideration on my behalf (only God knew what these people don write for my case o). She came back, started doing something on the system and it seems like copy and paste or deleting something sha. Meanwhile, she's yet to return my passport into the box but at the same time still have the white paper placed beneath my I-20.

VO: What position will you attain with your PhD?
Me: Lecturer II

VO: Okay!
She resumed to her typing and after a while, the golden words came out of her mouth... "I am approving your VISA"

That's how my system just scattered that I was trying to listen to what she was saying but my ears no gree hear o. All I wanted at that moment was to allow her stop talking so I could thank her for the consideration.

Eventually she finished talking and I thanked her and pray that God continue to bless her abundantly. It was obvious from her facial expression that she's happy about the decision and how I felt afterwards.

Special appreciation to my one and only chiefest chief, PEPEronically macaroni who saw my first interview transcript on Nairaland, reached out to me and gave me some encouragements that denial is nothing, that I will eventually get it if I remain steadfast. Thank you very much great Scholar, brother, leader and all-in-1 personality. May God continue to be your fortifier.

A thousand miles they say start with a step!

The journey started in 2014/2015 during my service year (National Youth Service Corps) in Abuja Nigeria when I met my mentor. I call him Abu Umar meaning Umar's father. He advised I should consider going to the US to further my studies because he could see a lot of potentials in me as a fresh graduate who is so passionate about IT specifically in the field of Computer Networking. One thing I could remember was he always laid emphasis on taking the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), reiterating that the GRE could strengthen the profile of the prospective student in getting scholarships (Full Tuition waiver+ Monthly Stipends) which can either be in form of Graduate Teaching Assistantship or Graduate Research Assistantship. I thought about it and decided to do my research on studying abroad specifically in the US since it is the hub of Information Technology (IT) in the world.

As one who thirsts for knowledge, I Google searched “How to study in the US as a Nigerian Student”, I stumbled on an article written by Dr. Farooq Kperogi a professor, Journalist, newspaper Columnist, Author and a blogger based in Greater Atlanta Georgia, USA titled “Studying in America: What you need to know” and also an article on his blog titled “From HND in Nigeria to Ph.D. in America” this story specifically galvanized my graduate school journey and this was the turning point of my life. I also stumbled on a Nairaland thread titled “General U.S.A Student visa Enquiries” while searching the internet.

I studied the process of applying to US graduate schools; the application documents required to apply such as standardized Exams (GRE&TOEFL), Transcript (GPA), Letters Of Recommendation, Statement Of Purpose, Resume and other supporting documents that can boost my profile, classifications of schools in-terms of Ambitious, Moderate and Safe schools based on my entire profile. I learned about these processes the best I could.

All through 2015/2016, I learned about the entire process coupled with learning how to convert Nigerian CGPA (/4.0/5.0/7.0) standard to American standard (/4.0) called transcript evaluation using evaluation bodies such as WES, ECE, FIS, GCE, SPAN TRAN, etc. (N.B make sure you use evaluation bodies that belong to NACES (National Association of Credential Evaluation Services).

In 2017, I started preparing my documents, requested my undergraduate transcript from Lagos State University (LASU) which I sent to my place of work so that I could have an unofficial transcript handy to apply to various schools of my choice. During this period, I started preparing for Graduate Record Exam (GRE). I met some amazing people during this period; people like OLOLADE OKANLAWON and ALEXANDER SHERIFF. These guys took me like a brother, introduced me to several WhatsApp groups such as NEW GRE GROUP, BDGI, etc in order to aid my GRE study preparation. Thanks to them and I will forever be grateful for impacting me positively.

I prepared for the GRE for several months, though my preparation was epileptic because I was combining work with my study and it was really stressful for me. After several months of prep, I had the shock of my entire life. I had a score below 300. I was almost knocked down by a car when I came out of the exam center because I was depressed. I was advised to make another attempt for the test of which I decided against after much thinking and meditation.

In September 2017, I stumbled at the University of Maryland College Park (UMD) during my research on schools that matched my profile. I applied to the Master of Engineering (MENG) in Cyber Security program without my "low" GRE score because GRE was not a requirement for admission into the program. Prior to that, I intended to go to a certain school in Europe (The Netherlands) because they had a particular scholarship for international students of which one of my cousins benefited from.

I intended to do MSc in Bioinformatics in the Netherlands using the scholarship, however, I was not awarded the scholarship even after being admitted into the program. The scholarship was going to take care of my flight to and fro from Nigeria to the Netherlands and from the Netherlands back to Nigeria, my accommodation, feeding, health insurance, and Full Tuition waiver. I had to concentrate and channel all my energy on my UMD application. I got admitted to MENG in Cyber Security at UMD, I was so happy because I never believed my profile could fetch me an admission in such a well-ranked school like UMD.

I started learning about the alternative ways of sponsoring one’s tuition in US schools so I found myself in some WhatsApp groups about graduate school journey. This was the period I learned that prodigy finance and N-Power gives loan to international students who want to study abroad. My Cybersecurity program at UMD would have to be sponsored by Prodigy Finance. I had an uneasy feeling that it was a big risk and I was really nervous about taking a loan. Though, I understood the entire process and how students will pay back their loans after their program at their respective graduate schools abroad.

After my admission at UMD which was the first phase of the entire graduate school process, came the second phase which involved paying SEVIS Fee, Visa Fee, booking of visa interview date, and preparation for the visa interview. I prepared for about 2 weeks and my visa appointment date was for December 2017. The D-day for my visa interview came, prayed to God for divine favor before hitting the embassy at Walter Carrington Lagos, Nigeria. On getting to the embassy at about 6:30 AM Nigerian Time, I did all the pre-screening such as fingerprint, checking of visa fee receipt, SEVIS fee, etc. During the interview, the Visa officer asked me some questions which I believed my answers were too technical for the Visa officer to comprehend.

The interview lasted for just 2 minutes and I was denied, unfortunately. (N.B: Make sure you don’t use technical jargon when answering during the visa interview. Try to answer questions using simple English Language). I was depressed but I shared my experience with some knowledgeable people who told me what went wrong during my interview and they also encouraged me to give it a second shot. This time, I was broke to the extent that one of those who encouraged me to give it another shot paid half of my visa fee.

I booked another visa appointment dated the first week of January 2018. Again the interview was at the USA embassy, Walter Carrington, Lagos, I was interviewed by a tall white American guy who drilled me with so many questions. The Interview lasted for about 6 minutes and unfortunately, I was denied again making it my second attempt at the embassy.

After my second interview was a rough period in my life. Depression set in and I was broke like never before. During this period, I met this beautiful and soft-hearted young lady and some other people who always assured me that everything will be all right. I was always unhappy at work, thinking about my life and my rent was also due. Also, my flatmate left the flat we were staying in because he got another job on the Island and he had to move closer to the Island.

I was left to saddle the responsibility alone along with the graduate school journey because fall 2018 application period was around the corner. I spoke to Emmanuel Ogunkunle my wonderful scholar who encouraged me and also made mention of Austin Peay State University (APSU). I had never come across such a school during my school search. I told him I’ll put the school on the list of schools for fall 2018 application cycle.

Fall 2018 application cycle began, I applied to Eastern Illinois University (EIU), Austin Peay State University(APSU), University of Cincinnati (UC) and Gannon University (GU) got admitted to all the four schools. This brought a lot of smiles again to my face after several weeks of depression and unhappy moments in my life. I started seeking Graduate Assistant positions at UC and APSU because the other schools told me there were no available funds for my program.

I applied to Graduate Assistant (GA) positions in 6 departments at APSU and in the school of Information Technology at UC. I got a GA interview at UC from a Chinese Professor in the School of Information Technology, but I lost the GA position because I had no experience in Machine Learning and Data Science. My last hope was APSU waited for several weeks after which I received four rejections emails from four different departments I applied to. All I wanted was just one department to turn the table around for me.

During my application at APSU, I met 6 Nigerians who were so instrumental during my application process because I was guided by virtually all of them during the entire application. I remembered one of them asking about my GA application of which I told him I was expecting good news, but I already had 4 rejections from other departments I applied to. One day, he contacted me on LinkedIn and advised me to change my concentration from Information Assurance & Security to either Math Finance or Predictive Analytics which are also in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.

I said to myself Math Finance is not a good area for me because IT is my life anything outside IT in graduate school won’t make me happy. I researched Predictive Analytics which was my best option because it is an emerging Technology under Data Science which is also an emerging technology in the IT field. I changed my concentration and also updated him that I had changed it to predictive Analytics.

He then told me to apply for the GA position again because he overheard in the department of Mathematics and Computer Science that there are still available positions for GA and some students just graduated during that period. I did as he advised, composed a nice e-mail, and attached my application documents; resume, transcript, and my professional certifications so that I could have a better chance at securing the GA position.

I waited for several weeks without even an acknowledgment e-mail from the department. I almost gave up because I already paid for another GRE to start prep for fall 2019 Ph.D. program in either Computer science or Information Technology. I had already made up my mind about Ph.D. for fall 2019 when I received a congratulatory message from the chair of the department about the GA position I applied to.

I wept, with tears of joy streaming down my eyes for it was the happiest day of my entire life. In-fact, I paid for people’s transport fare from my office to their destinations because I was coming back from the office at night after working a 12 Hours (8 AM - 8 PM) shift. I requested for my I-20 from APSU and it got to my place of residence within a week.

Exactly July 2018, I booked my visa interview dated July 30th 2018 which was later postponed to August 4th 2018 (Saturday morning). Prior to the D-Day, I prepared extensively did up to 5 mock interviews with some guys already in graduate school in the US and some in Nigeria. I also fasted for 9 days. On the D-day of my visa interview, I did all the usual screening such as fingerprint, checking of visa fee receipt, SEVIS fee, etc.

I was instructed to stay on a line which was the counter of the visa officer who previously denied me during my second attempt and I knew he could not interview me again based on their rules. On getting to him, he asked for my passport and I-20 which I obliged, but he returned my passport and I-20 saying he was sorry and that he already interviewed me. I was instructed to go to the second line where they had this young and pretty visa officer who already approved two people before me.

During the interview, the visa officer asked me several questions. She referred me back to the last 6 months with the previous visa officer which was my 2nd interview at the embassy. She stood up from her seat and went straight to the previous visa officer asking him something about my profile. When she came back, she asked me another set of questions which I responded to the best of my ability. She stood up twice again to talk to the previous visa officer.

At this moment, I was really scared, my heart was beating very fast, but tried to compose myself and never stop chanting my prayers and also tried to look into her eyes when answering her questions. In the end, I was given a white paper but placed on the administrative process for 4 days and got my Visa approved on the 5th day.

I left Nigeria for the US on August 20th, 2018, I flew from Lagos Nigeria to DOHA then DOHA to Miami and Miami to Nashville then Nashville to Clarksville (Austin Peay State University, Clarksville Tennessee USA).On getting to Miami which was my POE (Point of Entry), I was delayed for several hours because I got to Miami at about 5 PM in the evening and my connecting flight to Nashville was 8 PM in the evening.

I was taken to a private room for interrogations by 3 Armed men. I must confess I was scared, but I just had to display confidence since I did not have any skeleton inside my cupboard. I was asked series of questions such as Why I decided to attend APSU, my parent's Date of Birth, How I got my GA, where I worked in Nigeria before coming to the USA, did I informed my school I was coming at that particular date? They went as far as calling my school DSO to confirm if I was a genuine student, also asked what are my job roles where I worked last before coming to the US? Are my religious? Did I belong to any political party? I was referred back to what transpired last 6 months at the American Embassy in Nigeria that why didn’t I pursue MENG at UMD again and why did I change my choice of school and program? I answered all their questions diligently and confidently.

Lastly requested for my phone and PIN wrote down the serial number of my phone and searched my phone thoroughly, but they did not find anything implicating. I was asked to go out of the room to wait outside. After 15 minutes, the man who requested my phone came out of the interrogation room and handed over my phone and international passport to me and gave me a resounding welcome saying “WELCOME TO AMERICA AND ALWAYS TAKE SMART DECISIONS”.

I carried my bags to board my connecting flight to Nashville and then took a Taxi from Nashville to Clarksville. I got to my place of residence at about 2 AM in the morning. This was my graduate school retrospect which I believe you can learn a thing or two from my story.

Fast forward to April 2019, I was in the library with a friend where I received a LinkedIn message from a Network Engineering Director at Dell EMC who happens to be my manager. He contacted me because the summary on my LinkedIn profile indicated I was actively seeking an Internship position in Computer Networking and Cloud Computing domains for summer 2019. He scheduled an interview the same day, conducted an interview the second day and I was given an offer that very day at Dell EMC in their Network Infrastructure Solution team.

Even with full funding Please share your transcript.

As for your Q3, the rule for getting an expedited appointment is that the said applicant must have NOT been refused a visa within the last 6 months.
Thank you.

Hello guys! I must commend the richness of this thread, you guys are really doing a great job.
I currently have an issue at hand, my Visa was denied on November 27 and I need to reapply. I have a Research Assistantship offer, which covers my tuition fee and living expenses. I believe the reason for the denial could have been that I didn't present an evidence to show that I would be back to Nigeria after my PhD program. It's a pity I had the document right there with me but there was no cause for me to present it as the conversation with the VO was smooth without her requesting for any supporting document. I was able to establish that I am currently an Assistant Lecturer in a Federal University here in Nigeria. Perhaps, I should have been forward enough to present the letter of introduction I got from my Registrar.
The issue now is that I need to resume latest by January 06, 2020 and the only feasible location now is Abuja but my Ds-160 was initially filled using Lagos.
I humbly request for your kind response on the following:

1.) Do I need to revisit my Ds-160 and change the location to Abuja?

2.) Does changing interview location affect my chances?

3.) Do I still qualify to request for an emergency date, since I used it for my last appointment.

I look forward to your constructive responses.
Thank you.
