Why did the English coach tell the team to adopt that pattern? It's dumb. They keep kicking the ball to the adjentines, in the name of defensive play.

The messians will win, and the world cup is their's.

ariesbull:
Major General Chinedu Ralph Nnebuife Hailed for Coordinating Rescue Operation in Oyo

Major General Chinedu Ralph Nnebuife, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division of the Nigerian Army in Ibadan, Oyo State, has been widely commended for coordinating the military operation that reportedly rescued the victims of the Orire kidnapping incident and neutralized the suspected bandits involved.

The operation has been praised as an example of the Nigerian Armed Forces' commitment to protecting citizens regardless of their ethnic, religious, or regional backgrounds.

Major General Nnebuife, an Igbo officer serving in the South-West, coordinated efforts to rescue victims, many of whom are from different ethnic and religious communities. His role serves as a reminder that national service is founded on duty, professionalism, and the protection of every Nigerian—not ethnic or religious identity.

At a time when tribal and religious divisions often dominate public discourse, this operation underscores an important reality: insecurity affects all Nigerians, and those working to combat it come from every part of the country. The success of security operations depends on cooperation, professionalism, and unity rather than ethnic or religious affiliation.

Rather than allowing tribalism and sectarian narratives to divide the nation, Nigerians can draw inspiration from examples of public servants who put country before identity. Acts of courage and service such as this reinforce the idea that Nigeria's strength lies in its diversity and in the willingness of its citizens to stand for one another.

As the nation continues to confront security challenges, many believe that promoting unity, mutual respect, and national interest over ethnic and religious differences remains essential to building a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.

Majority wear sunshades to cover their shame. Elemenry psychology can read those faces
Jonah2022:
Thousands of residents, youth groups, community leaders and political supporters on Thursday participated in the "Relax Tinubu is Fixing Nigeria" (RTIFN) Unity and Peace Rally across Lugbe and Kuje Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory, in what organisers described as a voter awareness campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The rally, which featured a roadshow through major parts of the two area councils, was organised to encourage voter participation while highlighting the achievements of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Organisers said the event attracted thousands of participants, including community leaders, youth advocates and government officials.

Among those in attendance was the Chief of Staff to the Minister of Youth Development, Hon. Muhammed Abdullah, alongside national executives of the RTIFN movement and other political stakeholders.

A major highlight of the event was the distribution of empowerment packages to women and youth entrepreneurs. According to the organisers, startup kits and financial grants were presented to selected beneficiaries in Lugbe and Kuje to support small businesses and promote economic self-reliance.

Some beneficiaries and market women reportedly expressed appreciation for the intervention and pledged their support for the Tinubu administration, citing ongoing infrastructure projects and government initiatives in their communities.

Addressing participants at the rally, the Director-General of the Relax Tinubu is Fixing Nigeria movement, Hon. Ahmed Bala, thanked residents for what he described as their peaceful conduct and continued support for the government.

Bala said the economic and structural reforms introduced by President Tinubu were aimed at laying a sustainable foundation for Nigeria's long-term development, urging Nigerians to remain patient as the policies continue to take effect.

"Leadership requires courage, and President Tinubu has shown that courage. We are here to appeal for your continued patience. The policies of this administration are not quick fixes; they are sustainable foundations, and they have already started yielding visible fruits across the nation. Trust the process, protect your vote, and let us stay united as we approach 2027," he said.

The event also featured cultural displays and musical performances by entertainers, including Basketmouth, Zule Zoo, Ekwe, Joel and Samegeezy, as well as performances by emerging local artists.

The organisers said the entertainment segment was designed to promote peaceful coexistence while complementing the civic education campaign.

The 2027 general elections are expected to be Nigeria's next nationwide electoral exercise, with political parties and support groups gradually intensifying grassroots mobilisation and voter engagement activities across the country.

In less than 60 years, the phenomenon call marriage will be completely extinct. Some of the reasons are:

The spate of feminist movements and increasing recognition of it's resultant defiance on the position of the man in the marriage; the classified women education that give vent to a complete redefinition of womanhood with it's western endorsement in the guise of civilisation which incidentally is the vehicle with which education generally is conveyed. Deliberate suppression of man's rights in the union which ascendancy increasingly gains global endorsement.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Omar Artan To Officiate 2026 UEFA Super Cup by Snakedoctor1: 6:13pm On Jun 11
Since last week ni. I just dey refresh thinking it's an old offline page
dominique:
34-year-old Artan has been on the FIFA international list since 2018 and was named CAF Men’s Referee of the Year in 2025.

Following discussions with its sister confederation, Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF), UEFA has today appointed Somali referee Omar Artan to officiate the 2026 UEFA Super Cup, which will take place on 12 August in Salzburg between UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain and UEFA Europa League winners Aston Villa.

Despite his young age, Artan has established himself as one of the world’s top referees and has been on the FIFA international list since 2018. Among the most notable matches he has officiated is the second leg of the 2025/26 CAF Champions League final. In recognition of his performances, he received the CAF Men’s Referee of the Year Award 2025.

Artan had been included by FIFA in the match officials’ list for the FIFA World Cup 2026 but could not participate as he was not allowed to enter the United States.

The decision to appoint Artan to officiate the UEFA Super Cup match has been made in the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding (“MoU”) recently signed between UEFA and CAF to encourage cooperation in many areas, including refereeing. UEFA and CAF are united by a shared commitment to developing football at all levels and promoting the core values of unity, equality and non-discrimination.

Aleksander Čeferin, UEFA president, said: “Omar Artan is an excellent young but already experienced referee, who has proven himself at the highest competition level of the Confederation of African Football. Football is made to connect people, and UEFA wants to show its respect to Omar and his outstanding officiating skills, which had earned him such a prestigious nomination. I am grateful to my friend CAF President Patrice Motsepe for supporting enthusiastically our initiative.”

Dr Patrice Motsepe, CAF president, said: “Omar Artan has made Somalia and the entire people of the African Continent, extremely proud. His receipt of the CAF Men’s Referee of the Year Award 2025 and his appointment as a referee of the FIFA World Cup 2026 are a recognition of his world-class refereeing ability and the international respect that he enjoys. I am very thankful to my friend, Aleksander Čeferin for enabling Omar Artan to officiate the UEFA Super Cup 2026 match. This is a great honour for Omar Artan and for African referees and is also an excellent example of football, bringing together and uniting people from Africa and Europe and worldwide.”

Before anybody calls me a liar or a complainer, sit down and read this first. Because I have numbers. And numbers don't lie.

In 2019, I was earning ₦150,000 per month. Junior staff. I was not rich at all. But I was comfortable. I could breathe.

Today in 2026, I earn ₦500,000 per month. On paper that is more than 3x growth. I should be living large. I should have savings. I should be talking about investments by now.

Instead I am broke before the 25th of every month.

Let me show you exactly why.

THE NAIRA ITSELF
In 2019, one dollar was roughly ₦360.
Today in 2026, one dollar is over ₦1,500.

The naira has lost about 75% of its value against the dollar in 7 years. So anything imported, whether electronics, medicine, baby products or even some food, now costs 4 times what it used to.

My ₦500k today equals roughly $333.
My ₦150k in 2019 was worth roughly $416.

Read that again.

I earn more naira but fewer dollars. In real purchasing power I have gone backwards even though my salary tripled on paper.

FOOD

In 2019, I fed myself comfortably for around ₦30,000 per month. Decent food, market twice a week, occasionally a small restaurant.

Today that same lifestyle costs me at least ₦120,000 and that is me managing carefully.

| Item | 2019 | 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Bag of rice (50kg) | ₦18,000 | ₦85,000+ |
| Cooking gas (12.5kg) | ₦3,500 | ₦18,000+ |
| Groundnut oil (4 litres) | ₦2,800 | ₦12,000+ |
| Tomatoes (paint bucket) | ₦800 | ₦5,000+ |
| Full chicken | ₦2,500 | ₦10,000+ |
| Big loaf of bread | ₦350 | ₦1,500+ |

My food budget went up by 400%. My salary went up by 233%. The food is winning.

RENT

In 2019, I paid ₦350,000 per year for a decent one bedroom in a Lagos suburb. That is about ₦29,000 per month if you break it down.

Today that same apartment, same area, same size, same leaking ceiling, is ₦1.2 million per year. That is ₦100,000 per month equivalent.

I now spend 20% of my gross salary on rent alone. And landlords still want one to two years upfront. So every renewal season I need to drop over ₦1 million at once like I am buying land.

ELECTRICITY AND GENERATOR
In 2019, NEPA was bad but manageable. Fuel was ₦145 per litre. My monthly gen fuel was around ₦8,000.

Today petrol is close to ₦1,500 per litre. My monthly generator fuel alone is ₦45,000. And NEPA is still giving me the same 4 hours they gave me in 2019. Nothing changed on their side except the bills went up.

TRANSPORT

Bus from my estate to office in 2019 was ₦150 each way. That is ₦300 per day, about ₦6,600 per month.

Same route today is ₦700 minimum each way. ₦1,400 per day. Nearly ₦31,000 per month.

Ride hailing? Multiply that by three. I now spend between ₦30,000 and ₦50,000 every month just moving my body from home to work and back.

SO WHERE DOES THE ₦500K GO?

| Expense | Monthly |
|---|---|
| Rent (broken down monthly) | ₦100,000 |
| Food and groceries | ₦120,000 |
| Generator fuel | ₦45,000 |
| Transport | ₦35,000 |
| NEPA bill | ₦18,000 |
| Airtime and data | ₦12,000 |
| Toiletries and misc | ₦20,000 |
| Tithe | ₦25,000 |
| **Total** | **₦375,000+** |

That leaves me ₦125,000 for savings, emergencies, hospital, clothes, sending money home, school fees if you have children, and anything unexpected.

In 2019 on ₦150,000, my total expenses were under ₦90,000 and I had ₦60,000 left. That leftover was worth $167 at the time. My ₦125,000 leftover today is worth $83.

I saved more real money when I earned less. That is not a feeling. That is arithmetic.

THE PART NOBODY TALKS ABOUT
Beyond the numbers, what has changed is how money feels.

In 2019, seeing ₦100,000 in my account felt like safety. Like I had options. Like I could breathe easy.

Today I see ₦500,000 land on payday and my first feeling is anxiety, not happiness. Because I immediately start calculating what is owed, what is running out, what will still not be enough.

That shift from feeling okay to feeling like you are always one emergency away from trouble, even as your salary grows, is what this economy has quietly done to the Nigerian middle class.

We are not imagining things. We are not lazy. We are not bad at managing money. We are just running on a treadmill that keeps speeding up.

MY QUESTION TO NAIRALANDERS:
What was your salary in 2019 and what is it today? Are you genuinely better off or are you like me, earning more and living less?

Drop your numbers in the comments. No judgement for anybody. Let us count together.
My salary in 2008 was $1200 paid by a foreign film that hired me almost straight from college.
In 2024, before I left the country, my salary was N830K.

It's really something I couldn't reconcile.

My friend took a bus from Phoenix to LA, when Trump bruhaha was full blown, to avoid airports. Seated with this young blonde girl, conversation ensued. He bought her snacks when they stopped midway to stretch their legs. Because of the long journey, they arrived Union Station in LA by 2am.

The girl told him she was 21, that she was self employed and staid alone. And that she was only transiting LA to Idaho to make the hairs of couples that were preparing for their wedding. That was her handiwork according to her.

My friend had booked a hotel for that night but decided not to use the room cos the night was already half gone, cancelling the initial idea of inviting the girl to the hotel. When it started drizzling, he chose to pass the remaining time at a coffee shop and invited the girl to join him.

He reached Denny's first and then sent sms to the girl to describe the location of the shop. The moment the text was delivered, his phone rang. A cop came in the line and introduced herself as calling from Virginia. "You sent a text message to missing juvenile", she chuckled. My friend froze. The lady cop asked him to answer all the questions she asked.

When he called me, I told him to contact LAPD, since the lady was calling from outside jurisdiction. He did and they told he to come to their nearby station if he felt less safe. This process took another one week to resolve before he was asked to go about his business.

Big surprise- the first time I realized how porous one could be with android phones. The phone was easily wiretapped. Surprisingly, the text the guy sent was remotely deleted from his phone. (America na wonder place). I have asked this question and all the tech guys said it been as impossible despite the android wack security.

Second- God saved him. If he had had a consensual sex with that girl in his hotel, despite being lied to about her real age, that would be pure rape.

The age game; the girl in question genuinely looked 21. Anyone one would believe her. She would look you in the face and interact with you like adult, discussing any topic fully well. Naija kids do not look adults eye ball to eye ball. But these kids do. The height, expression, interaction etc was on all fours, adult. Not: the jury will never allow you use this defence.

Big lesson here- most of these young girls are fleeing home for some reasons. If you see them surprisingly yielding to you in a way that looks too good to be true, flee.
If they tell you their age, cross examine them, they will fall.

Truth; most of the Naija and other new comers convicted of rape, acted innocently but ignorantly.

Pls learn this lesson especially if you r new.

FamilyShe Doesn't Call To Check Like When I Hadn't Given My Life by Snakedoctor1(op): 1:46pm On May 29
My wife used to call and would even see grope and check if any woman is in the room. Since she realized that I have fully given my life to Christ, she calls once in a while.

I no longer feel as important as I used to.

womilojublog:
Go home. Not in shame never in shame but in the full, unhurried dignity of one who has finally remembered their own name.

You came with your gifts wrapped in ambition, your hands carrying centuries of ingenuity that built civilizations long before they had a word for civilization. You arrived not as a beggar but as a contributor, not as a shadow but as a source of light. Yet they placed you under fluorescent lamps in cold offices, asked you to spell your name again, to explain your country again, to justify your presence again. And now, emboldened by the shamelessness of a leader whose ignorance wears a suit, they have dispatched uniformed men to remind you that you are unwelcome in the land you helped build. Do not waste your tears on them.

Do not be humiliated by a man who reads from a script he cannot understand, whose contempt for Africa flows not from knowledge but from the hollow arrogance of one who has confused loud words for wisdom. He who denigrates a continent of 54 nations, a billion souls, a thousand tongues, and the oldest human footprints on this earth he does not deserve your rage. He has earned only your pity. But pity is a luxury. Your time is more valuable than that.

Think of what you left behind. Not the poverty they zoomed into in their documentaries to justify their superiority but the real Africa: the laughter that spills out of open windows at midnight, the market at dawn that smells of groundnut oil and fresh possibility, the grandmother whose soup is a philosophy, whose hands are a library. Think of the red earth that knows your blood because it has held the bones of your people for ten thousand years. No American suburb, no matter how manicured its lawns, can offer you what the land of your origin holds in a single fistful of soil.

They will tell you their country is the greatest. Let them have that story. A nation of volcanoes and tornadoes, of mass shootings in schools and prayers that change nothing, of a healthcare system that will bankrupt you for having the audacity to fall ill this is the paradise they are guarding with such vigilance? Let them guard it. You were never meant to be kept anywhere. You were meant to move freely across a world that, at its bones, belongs to everyone.

They have no real food only the borrowed bread of other people's cultures, pressed flat between two halves of a bun and called civilization. No jollof rice smoky from an open fire. No egusi that took all morning to make. No suya wrapped in newspaper at the roadside, eaten standing up, which is how the best things in life are eaten. What they call cuisine, we call convenience. What they call fast food, we call the absence of love.

Remember Wole Soyinka that great lion of Aké, that Nobel laureate whose pen has always been sharper than any sword they could forge who looked at America and its careless talkers, its men who reduce the world to slogans and the slogans to insults, and simply said: no. Not with a fist raised. Not with a press conference. But with the calm, devastating authority of a man who knows his worth and refuses to negotiate it. He packed his conscience and his genius and he came home. And home received him as home always receives its children without condition, without paperwork, without asking him to prove he belonged.

Africa is not waiting for you with pity. Africa is waiting for you with need the urgent, electric need of a continent that is rising, that is building, that is tired of watching its finest minds water other people's gardens while their own soil goes unplanted. Your engineering, your medicine, your art, your business mind, your stubborn refusal to be diminished bring it home. The soil will know what to do with it.

They stole our gold and called it trade. They stole our labour and called it history. They stole our art and placed it in their museums under foreign names. Now they want to steal the one thing we have left our people. Do not let them have even that. Not by force, not by the slow theft of exhaustion and humiliation. Walk out on your own terms. Turn your back not in defeat but in the sovereign indifference of one who has found something better.

You are not leaving because you failed. You are leaving because you are finished with them. There is a difference as wide as the Atlantic that same ocean your ancestors crossed in chains, which you will now cross in a plane, with your passport and your pride and your future folded neatly in your carry-on bag. Let that crossing be a reclamation.

Let your departure be as deliberate as Soyinka's. As quiet as dignity always is. As final as a door closed gently not slammed, for slamming is for those who are angry, and you are not angry. You are simply done. Done with the cold weather that never agreed with your bones. Done with the food that has no memory, no ceremony, no love in its making. Done with proving yourself to people who decided before you arrived what you were worth. Done with a nation that has made enemies in every corner of the world and cannot understand why.

Come home to Accra's golden corridors of ambition. Come home to Lagos, that furious, magnificent beast of a city that never sleeps and never apologizes for its hunger. Come home to Nairobi's skyline lifting itself taller each season. Come home to Dakar, to Kigali, to Addis, to Abuja, to Johannesburg and her complicated, beautiful soul. Come home to the village too do not be ashamed of the village for the village is where the roots go deepest and where the stories are truest.

Their America was never yours. You leased it with your labour and your loneliness and your Sunday phone calls home and your silent endurance of a thousand small degradations. The lease is up. You are not renewing. Collect yourself. Collect your children. Collect your name say it the way your mother says it, the full version, all the syllables, without apology and walk.
Walk the way our elders walked out of their colonizers' offices: slowly, deliberately, with the knowledge that history is long and the last word has not yet been spoken. Walk knowing that the same sun that rises over their skyline rises first over ours earlier, warmer, and with the full approval of a sky that has always loved Africa best.

The continent did not forget you while you were gone. It kept your place at the table. It kept the fire low, but burning.

Leave their America. It was never yours to lose.
Africa calls her children home and she is not asking twice.
