NaijaCowFarm: Does Nigeria constitution regard FCT as a state? No!
2. A candidate for an election to the office of President shall be deemed to have been duly elected where, there being more than two candidates for the election a. he has the highest number of votes cast at the election; and b. he has not less than one-quarter of the votes cast at the election each of at least two-thirds of all the States in the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Are you a lawyer? If this was the intent of the draftsmen of that section, they would have simply said "two-third of total votes cast across (in the whole) the country. The jurisprudencial basis of specifying the "states and FCT" is for a majority of the citizens of those states and FCT to have ample say, interest (or what we call capital in credit terms), in the election of their national leader. If state A did not cast up to two-thirds, and state B does, state A simply didn't want the leader to steer their wheel of governance at the centre and true democracy entails that this be simply considered. |

Travel › Re: My Experience With Loneliness After Canada Migration by Snakedoctor1: 5:02pm On Feb 18, 2023 |
Confusedgirlie: Before I left Canada for Nigeria in 2020, I had heard severally that it was very lonely there for Nigerian immigrants. I didn't quite understand what people meant exactly when they said this. However, over time I now have a very good understanding of this particular challenge with migration. Here are some of the things I've learnt on the way. But first, a little background about me.
I'm an introvert and I like my introversion. It gives me a lot of time to think and to be in my own space which I enjoy a lot. I read, write and love to watch documentaries. Those are the three most important things to me in life. When I lived in Nigeria, I lived a mostly secluded life that didn't have a lot of people in it. Regardless, it wasn't boring to me. I went out when I wanted to and took my time for my own activities.
Since being in Canada, my observations have been that it is a lot lonelier here. The reasons are very obvious: there are not a lot of people around me from a culture I'm familiar with (Nigeria), so it's definitely a lot more difficult to interact with others. That's one key point. Another is that I don't really have to go out to purchase things (even groceries), compared to when I was in Nigeria. I can simply order everything I need while sitting in the comfort of my home. Hence, the temptation is to go this way. In addition, I don't have family around, so I'm mostly by myself. And finally, the few friends I have are often busy, so there's hardly time to get together.
That's about it. I think these are some of the challenges Nigerian immigrants face. But the real question is, do I feel lonely?
The honest answer to that is a No. I find that my life is exactly the same way I lived it in Nigeria, only a lot more convenient and comfortable. I can't trade this for anything. In addition, as an introvert who likes to be by herself anyways, it's just a lot more enjoyable.
Nevertheless, there are steps I'm planning to take to change a few things. I am now taking more opportunities to actually go out and buy things even if I don't have to, e.g groceries, clothes, etc. Secondly, I say hello first to strangers and neighbours and get to ask them a few questions. This I wouldn't have done on the first place. Finally, I downloaded a social media application called clubhouse and have been making new friends in my area using this. As a cautious person, I'm taking baby steps here and not jumping straight into friendships I may not like.
Overall, what do I think of being in Canada as an introvert? I enjoy it. My life and choices are a lot better and I find that I have the time to do much more than I was doing back in Nigeria, not hampered by lack of power or resources.
My advice to others is to gauge their expectations carefully as they come to Canada with or without family. It can be lonely here, but that's not because Canada itself is lonely. It's just because you need to dig deep and find yourself in a new country where family is absent and culture is unfamiliar. Canada is way better than continental Europe in this respect. look for Nigerian community and the African churches. You will find our that the 'owanbee' around you is more groovier than anything in Lagos. But, but, be careful doing this else you get entangled in drug deals. |

Goodlady: Ok. Alright. Very soon it ll hit the fp. Ok it don reach fp. More ll follow, Mr Ibuprofen ll get some sticks. The wife too ll get hers. That's the reward for not marrying right. First wife left, you marry again an akata. Check yourself n see what's wrong. Cos I don't blv in marrying more than once. If your spouse no die, you two should be together for life. What I think really happened The wife had money issues with Mr Ibuprofen. Seems baba is broke & he is not dishing out as before. Why ll he not be broke? Mr Ibu has 14 children. Some men ll just invite hardship on themselves by birthing anyhow. But she was unwise to lampoon it on social media so everything is now going yam pepper scatter-scatter! One thing I ll never do is to misuse my power as a female to cry foul play. I know the society favoured males the more but I m now wise to know when to talk n when not to talk. That issue of Mrs Ibu no suppose reach public.
Lastly, couples should know that carrying their quarrel on social media ll spoil things for them more than when they can settle it away from the public's hear. The public wanna see only good news about you. May all women marry right and v contention. I know marriage ll come but I m learning everyday and equipping myself with what ll make my home sweet. Baba is not broke. I have witnessed this pressure while we were somewhere in Abuja. She often demands for money And the least I had seen him send was 100k. The problem is she thinks Ibu spends unnecessarily on Jasmine. So, the allegation that will sway people's good thoughts is that Jasmine is his gf |

Health › Family Lament Foul Play On Their Daughters Death by Snakedoctor1(op): 10:34pm On Jan 24, 2023*. Modified: 5:43am On Jan 25, 2023 |
Family petitions IGP, demands justice over alleged death in surgical operation By Ameh Ochojila 24 January 2023 | 5:05 am Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba. Photo/FACEBOOKTHENIGERIAPOLICE The family of Mr.and Mrs George Ngongi has appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, to prosecute the medical practitioners, who were involved in the operation that resulted in the death of their daughter, Ms. Yondoh Izong, on September 6, 2022 in Wuse 2, Abuja. The family accused the suspect of lacking the requisite medical qualifications to practice the profession, in addition to using faulty and substandard surgical machines during the operation. The family’s counsel, Elias Offor, in a separate petition addressed to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department, Garki, Abuja, dated December 19, 2022, lamented the inability of the Police to act on the case. Offor explained that Ms. Yondoh was booked for a cosmetic tummy reduction procedure with a fake or faulty cosmetic surgery machine and without requisite precautions taken by the alleged amateur practitioners. The petitioner alleged that the patient convulsed violently shortly after the machine was fused on her tummy with some electronic sharp-edged surgical cords fitted with several needles, which resulted in her death in the clinic. The lawyer said the autopsy report shows that “Ms. Yondoh died of food Aspiration Asphyxia,” confirming that the cosmetic machine was fake or faulty and that the deceased ought not to have taken any meal before the procedure i.e., it was supposed to be done on an empty stomach. “There was no warning of any sort, coupled with the fact that blood samples were taken through her wrist, and an unknown liquid also administered on her before the procedure. Lacerations and needle wounds were also noticed respectively on her arm and lower abdomen showing that there were actual incisions on her body for a procedure that the quacks tagged non-surgical,” they claimed. The family lamented that the Homicide section of the FCT police command had refused to charge the matter to court after several efforts. The family lawyer said: “The Homicide section of the FCT Command has either not completed the investigation in this matter or they are waiting for their legal officers’ report on the matter. The culprits have, however, been going about their blossoming business, while the deceased family wallows in grief.” “We dare say that if these practitioners are not checked and called to order, more deaths will be caused by their quack practices. https://guardian.ng/features/law/family-petitions-igp-demands-justice-over-alleged-death-in-surgical-operation/@Mods, help us make this a front page news please. |

First I urge the mods to create a section for electoral issues. Please, in the interest of the forth coming election, let's have a section on N/l where people will have their questions answered by experts on issues pertaining pvc and voting generally.
My own issue is that my PVC card is just plain cos the data is wiped off front and back cos it has been in my wallet. But I have photocopies of everything on it including code numbers. I went to INEC office to complain but was told not to worry, that since I have my data preserved, I can vote with the It. I wouldn't know if this is correct, whether I should get back and seek to see another officer. |
