Please how do you mean you CANT! Again, You're allowed to work 20hrs term time!!! Whatever legal thing you can do during that time, please and by all means, do it!! Its not against your visa conditions. justwise: |
By all means, you can do care work and security work, no harm in that. ![]() But for those who are ready to push themselves, there's no harm in that and its not a crime either. justwise: |
Then declare your tax and pay accordingly. The question is for who was asking what the possibilities are. And my response is, the possibilities are endless. Bourne007: |
Essentially, you can carry out any 'offline' business as long as its not reported to HMRC. For example, you can be consulting for a business in Korea and they pay you your salary by direct credit to your account as services rendered, then you're fine. The second illustration: 20 hours does not mean you cannot earn far more than someone who is engaged full time. For example: You can be engaged 20 hrs but earning £40 per hour(depends on your skill set and the service you can produce). That brings your monthly salary to about £3200 per month. And please don't ask me what kind of jobs are those. People need to be very creative. Essentially, be creative but don't break the law. NB: I know 90% will do care jobs and security but atleast the remaining 10% need to hear that there's something else out there. Chysunshine1: |
Do a paid call and let the person you're speaking with know the facts of your application. 1. You all applied together. 2. You as the main applicant have gotten your visa. 3. And on that note, all your documents should have been confirmed (which includes financial statement) - and hopefully this is not what they are trying to confirm for one of your kids which is then taking time. My assumption here is that there is no issue with parental custody with the children that they need to confirm. And that if your spouse is not travelling with you at this time, you have provided a consent form to this effect (this is a different conversation altogether). sniperaz: |
From the numerous mails from families and the disparity in the correspondence of their various applications, the only thing this suggest is that family applications submitted together are treated along different paths and downstream processes. Essentially, sounds like you can have a multiple to single relationship between CW's and applicants with dependents ie multiple CW's can work on a single family application. Which then means its possible for you all to get different emails at different times - depending on which CW is working on what applicant. Its nothing for you to worry about, its just the way HO has decided to work on applications. Menab: |
Yes, because UK immigration route is not the easiest/best in the world. Even the Indians have started looking elsewhere. Mashaunola: |
Disclaimer: I have never worked with HO or claim to know someone who does. You may be right to some extent. But this would also depend on the service you paid for. Ofcourse, if its super priority, and your statement has to be verified, I'm sure a CW can put a call through straight to the bank for verification (or whichever third party supplier they use). All of this would happen within minutes of submission. If its priority, and it has to be confirmed, definately within first two days so they can meet the 5 days service standard. If its standard, it may not happen within the first four days of submission considering hey have to put super priority and priority ahead of your applications. Bear in mind some of the processes are automated which might include document readers. Jaylo79: |
So I don't like back and forth but good to address some of your misconceptions. I'm not interested in why people are asking for student loan on nairaland - my advice is to any genuine person who stumbles on that comment so they can be well informed. If you must take a student loan to get a degree, if you think that's the best thing for you, please do it! There's nothing different about UK student loan (asides accessibility). Its a loan, and the expectation is to payback. Its not free money. The only place where its free is Scotland and thats why I put that in bracket (comes with some requirement). If you think you can run away from paying back because you don't meet the earning threshold, you better think again because its going on your credit score, i'm sure you know what that means. i wont go into why fewer Britons register for masters degree, that's left to individual interpretation. But there will be far more fewer Britons in your maters class. Again to those who would ask, living and studying in the UK is not easy!! But you know what, its not impossible either! Just tell yourself I can do IT. justwise: |
Interesting. Please excuse my being inquisitive. So they sent you a decision email and then after, they sent you a refusal email? All before your passport was returned. And all of these was via email? Horlarjummie: |
OK. So there's been some conversations around affordability of a masters degree in the UK and all the twitter post. First things, education is not an exclusive right f the super rich. If your family can afford it fine, if they cant, then take a student loan. As long as you're sure that's the best step for you at the time and it can be justified. Student loan is not a new thing! More than half the students in your class (if you have Britons, Americans or Europeans) would be on student loan. So if you're thinking to take a loan from nig to fund your education, please go for it. The people granting your visa are aware!!, That's how most of them went to college. You wont be the first and you wont be the last. Africa and student loan is a different conversation altogether. Secondly, hustle. There's no problem with hustling as long as it doesn't affect your education!! Again you need to understand how their system works. Its slightly different from ours. For us, we finish secondary school, write JAMB and move straight to Uni. No need to work. Education is already heavily subsidised. So for most of us, its already very affordable especially if you're in federal or state university. For Britons, its not the case (except you're scottish - another conversation as well). Education is expensive. Infact, you really don't have to go beyond college (secondary school) if you cant afford it. Masters is almost exclusive for super brilliant students - and that's why you would hardly have Britons as masters classmate. Mostly your classmate will be Africans, Indians and Asians (a few Euopeans) Back to my point, after college, most of the ones that want to continue education would take a year out to work (usually what you call menial jobs) to raise money in addition to the student loan they would take for when they start uni. They would usually work as carers, bar attendants, cleaners, shop attendants etc So if you put these together, what they do is not very different from what you will do when you arrive the UK. And because you haven't taken a student loan, there's alot more pressure on you to achieve much more in such short time frame (thank God for PSW now) - hence what you call 'hustle'. And ofcourse, with our very weak exchange rate, even your Nigerian savings doesn't really cut it. For those who want to work while they school, be rest assured the system understands. As long as you stick to your 20hrs during term time and your school work is not suffering. And if you're so rich or supported that you don't need to work, please face your studies and have fun - most of the Chinese students don't work. Either because their govt supports them or the language barrier. |
Yes, ppl have said same that FD is allowed and can even see it as list of instruments accepted. Can i delete that post, so ppl dont keep referring to it - thats clearly wrong information. Enraf: |
What I would do if I were in this. 1. My wife would apply alone - ensure she gets her visa. She needs to mention shes married and with all your details as it is currently in her application 2. Once her visa is out, you put in your application with every correct details. where they mention have you been denied before - ofcourse the answer is yes and give the reason why it was denied. If you're feeling up to it, you can give additional information in the notes as to what happened back in 2007 and that you have learnt your lesson hitherto you were advised wrongly at the time. If you think this is not clear enough, you can seek professional help but I'm almost sure they wont do anything outside of this. Pijames: |
Actually, all bank instruments are time stamped, so this should not be an issue. But if someone's visa is refused due to this negligence, I'm surely showing up at the bank and someone has to take responsibility. If I'm applying for AR, then the bank must be writing that letter to the HO. fregoscunt: |
yes thanks. seen it that fd's are acceptable. I've never used and never seen it used but good that its clearly listed as acceptable to meet that requirement. Bourne007: |
18 and below is classed as dependant child. ocpaschal: |
This makes sense but its arguable. Reasons is that, I may present two financial instruments to my bank, debit and credit. For whatever reason, they may decide to action the debit transaction before the credit transaction... Anyways, if I was in this situation, I'll prolly write a strong letter to the HO accompanied by a letter from the bank as well where the transaction was actioned, supporting my claim that they could have actioned the credit transaction before the debit transaction. And I expect that a reasonable CW should expect that this can happen.. amoode2021: |
This might be helpful. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/immigration-rules/immigration-rules-appendix-finance Sijuademi:

I didn't know this. Patnuel2015: |
Any money you're using has to be immediately available to you. Only traditional current and savings account (in whatever flavour/product its been presented) meets this requirement. Sijuademi: |
No, you cannot and you should not. FD's are not funds available to you. As the name suggests, its a FIXED deposit. Sijuademi: |
Interesting: From a strictly financial pov, it makes no different. its called in and out. No effect on daily balance, at its best, its just another transaction on that day. From in immigration pov, it should not make any difference. BUT CHECK WHAT THE REQUIREMNT SAYS!! if it says it should not go below daily balance - then your fine. But if it says, it should not go below the balance needed at all - at any time, then a CW can interprete this transaction differently. it would be helpful for you if you get the opinion of someone who's had this exact same scenario and how it played out in the end.. Teledom1: |
Read the thread - more often than not does not mean its true for 100% of the cases. My advice is still that, if you get a NSF mail, the first place you want to check is with your bank. As regards checking refusals, if you know how the immigration system works, passports and refusals are the easiest and fastest to check - depending on where yiu got your refusal, it could even be a less than 5mins check. And you're right, it could be for any reason thats usually outside of the HO terrain but if you're applying from Nigeria, just check with your bank first. And when we say check with your bank, we are not saying branch - most times your branch would know absolutely nothing about immigration checks. Yemzzyy: |
Yes, you're right. But are you going to use the court document as identification document for immigration purposes? No The court document is to 'help' you get a new identification document in the new name. So in this case, the court document (by itself) cannot serve the purpose for which the applicant wants it. bemagnify: |
Thanks for sharing. This validates what I believe. Once you get the NSF mail, just know its a check that has to do with a third party verification that the HO has no control over - this is usually the financial institution you have provided their bank statement. Wise thing is to chase up with the bank once you get that mail. DanWord: |
Depends on how many documents now has his new name. I will say he should continue with the old name as it is on his passport while you make your visa applications. If he can get a new passport in the new name, fine. If not, carry on using the old name like you havent even changed it untill you get your passport. Except if his bank account already has the new name... then you might want to rethink things. But I'll say, carry on using the old name untill application is successful. The HO will only recognise the name on your passport, ie the name on the passport is the source of truth. Juwon01: |
Generally, Hertfordshire is better placed for jobs. oluwahsegun: |
I know people in the same circumstance as yours would be worried sick right now if they didn't get the BRP delay mail. Fingers crossed everything is alright. Igbamatigbi: |
You surely dont want to travel to Nigeria for Police report. they can send you the bio metric reg form online. Fill and scan back to them. Optimally: |
Two options: 1. Contact the Nigerian High Commission 2. get someone in Nigeria to go to the Police Station and get the forms for thumb print enrolment sent to you via email. Send it back to them and they should issue your Police report. AmadeusCho: |
I dont think so. I think oyster cards only work in London. gabiomoesu: |

, non-pet owners and not on benefit. It's just this income issue. I've seen several houses in the areas I listed on zoopla and right move but it seems the landlords are wary of the income stated. And I don't want to lie as even though I'm not sure how these agencies operate, I know they'll verify my parents earnings before they deem us fit to rent the house. I'll check Essex like you've said. Can you confirm if Essex buses and trains use oyster payments please?
