Catholics of Benin origin have kicked against the process adopted in appointing Bishop Anthony Akabueze as the Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Benin City by the Apostolic Administrator of Benin, Bishop Anthony Gbuji.

To this end, the Edo Liturgical Group has sent a four-man delegation with a protest letter to Pope Benedict XXV1 in Rome, demanding the appointment of a Benin priest as Archbishop to quicken the evangelisation of the Benin in their own language.

The letter, officially forwarded through the Papal Nuncio in Abuja, Most Reverend Dr Augustine Kasujja, copies of which were sent to President Goodluck Jonathan and Comrade Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, was signed by Pa Vincent Osakue and Mr Christopher Ahimien, president and secretary of the Edo Liturgical Group respectively.

The group  accused Dr Anthony Gbuji of implementing an Igbo agenda.
