The wife of the Pastor of the RCCG church where the late Herbert Wigwe worshipped before his death, Dr. Siju Iluyomade, celebrated her 60th birthday yesterday, and she threw a colourful party, more or less a carnival, to celebrate this milestone.

The party had in attendance Lagos big boys and giris like Tony Elumelu as Flavour entertained guests.


Before his death, Wigwe was a faithful member of the church where Siju’s husband pastored.

The name of the RCCG parish is City of David,Victoria Island, Lagos.

Any time Wigwe was in town, you must have seen him in church on Sunday. He does not miss it.

But beyond his physical presence, he used his goodwill and resources towards the growth of the City of David parish and the advancement of God's work.

The late Wigwe was one of the biggest tithe payers in the City of David parish because of his vast wealth and net worth.

He was a bank owner, so his tithe runs into millions of naira but it went beyond paying tithe.

The City of David has the best and finest church buildings in the whole of Nigeria and the best among RCCG parishes.

Wigwe was among those that God used to make it happen.

He was the Chairman of the Building Committee when the church was building that building.

He pulled all stops from donating his money to rallying his wife, Chizoba, who died with him, to donate too.

When the City of David ran out of funds to continue the project, it was Wigwe who used his influence to facilitate a loan from Access Bank for the building to go ahead.

Without his intervention, the project would have been an abandoned elephant project.

He went as far as paying for two office spaces for Access Bank at the church building, and he paid a 5-year rent for the two office spaces.

This was done when the project was still a greenfield project, and that is remarkable.

Just before he died, two weeks ago

The City of David Parish could not service the loan that Access Bank gave them, and the bank was breathing on their necks to pay up.

It was still the same Wigwe who bailed them out by giving them a bail out of 1 billion Naira in interest-free loans, which they are expected to pay back to him this year.

Unfortunately, he died before they could pay back the loan.

The late Wigwe was one of the biggest donors to this cause and her NGO, and because of his deep pocket, the Conference has evolved to be is an Annual Conference that attracts Nigerian women all over the country.

After all this charity and benovelence, the right thing and common sense dictate that it is offensive and not appropriate to throw a lavish party a week after the death of such a man whose tithe and benovelence sustained your husband's ministry when his body is still cold.

I wonder what Wigwe would be feeling in the spirit world after seeing such a carnival go on last night at the Eko Hotel Lagos, just a week after his death.

This is a lesson for the living.

You are only as important as your relevance and influence; once you are no longer there or present, the people that you moved the world and mountains for will move on.

It is a dog-eat-dog world, my friends, and this is why it is important to put yourself first.

Be unapologetic and selfish about putting yourself first.

THE Lagos State Police Command has arrested Eight Wanted robbers in three States, Oyo, Osun and Lagos recovering arms and ammunition.


In a Press Statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Benjamin Hundeyin available to SOJ WORLDWIDE, the gang killed a Police Officer at Iju-Ishaga in Lagos State on December 9, 2023.

"Following weeks of discreet and intense investigation, the Lagos State Police Command have finally arrested all eight members of two syndicates who have been wanted for robberies and snatching of vehicles at gunpoint in Lagos State.

While a few of the suspects were arrested in Lagos State, detectives trailed the rest to Iwo, Osun State and Ibadan, Oyo State where they were arrested.


The suspects are: Dayo Afolabi ‘m’ 27, Segun Osoyemi ‘m’ 32, Toheeb Adetunji ‘m’ 29, Tomiwa Okunlola ‘m’ 30, Bashiru Lukmon ‘m’ 22, Usman Hammed ‘m’ 25, Ashiru Usman ‘m’ 24 and Toheeb Oyekunle ‘m’ 32.


The suspects were also responsible for the murder of a police officer and stealing of his rifle in Iju Ishaga area of Lagos State on December 9, 2023.


The rifle has since been recovered during the first set of arrests.


Other items recovered from the suspects include: one pump-action rifle, five locally-made pistols, thirty live cartridges and charms.


The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, mni while commending the detectives for a job well done assures Lagosians that the Command will continue to do everything operationally possible towards ensuring their optimum safety."

THE threat to religious bigotry, intolerance reached an alarming stage when an Islamic Cleric openly called for the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu to be killed for being a Pastor.

The Cleric whose video has gone viral on Social Media called the First Lady an 'infidel' for not being a Muslim, therefore she must be killed in 21st Century.

Well meaning Nigerians including Senator Shehu Sani, Aisha Yusuf, other Nigerians condemned in strong terms the affront of the Cleric against the First Lady.

While some condemned the silence of the Police, the DSS and the Federal Government, others wondered why the Cleric has not been arrested.

The Federal Government on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 blocked the online platforms of Binance and other crypto firms to avert what it considers continuous manipulation of the forex market and illicit movement of funds, Premium Times reported on Wednesday.

Sources within the major telecommunication companies in the country told PREMIUM TIMES Wednesday evening that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) communicated the directive to telcos and they had started acting on it.

Apart from Binance, other platforms such as Forextime, OctaFX, Crypto, FXTM, Coinbase, Kraken, among others, were equally blocked.

PREMIUM TIMES earlier reported Wednesday that the government was considering blocking the online platforms of Binance and other crypto firms as part of efforts to avert the free fall of the local currency.

Presidency and regulatory sources said the government decided to move against Binance and other crypto firms following reports that currency speculators and money launderers were using them to execute criminal activities. Authorities believe the ‘criminal activities’ going on on platforms are contributing significantly to the weakening of the naira.

Binance, a digital assets platform, serves as a window for peer to peer transactions allowing users to advertise interest to sell or buy currencies of their choice.

In September 2023, Nigeria’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) placed a disclaimer on Binance Nigeria Limited, saying the platform was “neither registered nor regulated by the Commission and its operations in Nigeria are therefore illegal”.

Despite the warning by the regulatory agency, the firm continued its operation, attracting huge patronage especially among urban youths and suspected speculators and money launderers. Aside from suspicions of economic sabotage, officials also speak of national security concerns as the platforms are often patronised by other criminal groups including for payment of ransom.

In its reaction earlier on Wednesday, Binance said “users behaving in a manipulative way” will be removed from its platform.

“As industry leaders, we are working hand in hand with local authorities, lawmakers, and regulators to ensure we act on non-compliance,” the platform added, noting that it is “setting an upper limit for ads, filtering and removing bad ads, requiring and raising deposits for merchants posting ads as well as processes for actioning against any market manipulators.”


On Tuesday, the Nigerian government announced that it was planning to raise $10bn to improve liquidity in the foreign exchange market.

President Bola Tinubu, who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, disclosed this at the inaugural Public Wealth Management Conference in Abuja on Tuesday.

“At the core of this is ensuring optimal management of the assets and investments of the Federal Government towards unlocking their revenue potential. This includes our bold and achievable plan to double the GDP growth rate and significantly increase the GDP base over the next 8 years,” Mr Shettima said.

Meanwhile, the naira tumbled to an all-time low of N1,900 per dollar at the parallel market on Tuesday, amidst speculations and uncertainties about supply constraints in the markets. But at the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM), the local unit appreciated slightly to N1,551.24.


Earlier on Tuesday, the office of the National Security Adviser directed law enforcement agencies to take firm measures against anyone engaged in foreign exchange market speculation.

“In a concerted effort to safeguard Nigeria’s foreign exchange market and combat speculative activities, the Office of the National Security Adviser and the Central Bank of Nigeria are joining forces to address challenges impacting the nation’s economic stability,” the office said in a statement.

“The CBN’s proactive measures to stabilise the foreign exchange market and stimulate economic activities have been commendable. However, the effectiveness of these initiatives is being undermined by the activities of speculators, both domestic and international, operating through various channels, thereby exacerbating the depreciation of the Nigerian naira.”

THERE was no doubt that the nine-year-old Lion that attacked and killed the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU Veterinary Technologist, Olabode Olawuyi was was not only hungry but malnourished through lack of regular food.

From the photo of the Lion before it was shot dead by angry local hunter, the lion looked unkempt and lean which shows that the dangerous animal was not well fed.  He descended on its owner to survive but unknown to the animal that it has killed a father, a husband and a breadwinner.

When the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU Veterinary Technologist, Thomas Olabode Olawuyi woke up on Monday morning to go to work, little did he knows that it was his last on earth.

Olawuyi was a veterinary expert who has been in the business of caring and feeding the lion that eventually attacked and killed him for nine years.
According to a reliable source, the lion that killed him while on duty was born in his presence, yet it was the same crazy animal that sent him to the great beyond.


The mangled body of Olawuyi was lying of the floor lifeless to the agonies of colleagues, family and friends.


Although, the lion was shot dead but the havoc had been done already.

The management, staff, students and the entire campus of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, have been thrown into mourning following the untimely death of Mr. Olabode Olawuyi.

A release by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, stated that Mr Olawuyi, a Veterinary Technologist, who has been in charge of the Zoological garden for over a decade, was attacked this afternoon, Monday, 19th February, 2024, by a 9-year-old male lion when he was feeding them in their den at the Zoological garden of the University.

The other members of staff who were at the scene of the incident did everything within their power to rescue their boss but the wild cat had already caused severe fatalities.

On hearing the sad news, the management team, led by the Vice Chancellor, abruptly ended an on going meeting for an on the spot assessment.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon BAMIRE, was informed, on arrival, by the Acting Director of the University Health and Medical Centre Dr. Tirimisiyu Olatunji, that all first aid and medical efforts to save the life of the victim proved abortive.

Saddened by this tragic event, the aggressive Lion has been euthanized.

Mr Olawuyi has been taking care of the lions since they were born on campus about 9 years ago but, tragically, the male Lion killed the man who had been feeding them.

The University Management has sent a delegation to the widow and children of the deceased, imploring them to take solace in God who gives life and also has the power to take life.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon BAMIRE, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the immediate and remote causes of the incident.

May the soul of Mr. Olabode Olawuyi rest in peace.

Former Spokesman of President Bola Tinubu in the South East, Dr. Josef Onoh has stated that the region has restrained itself from the isolated hardship protests across the country because Nigeria has refused to accord the South East its due status as an integral part of the country, but had rather imposed hardship on the region in the past 54 years.


Onoh, who is presently the Chairman of Forum of Former Members of Enugu State House of Assembly (FOF-MENHA) and a former Governorship Aspirant in the State, stated that the rest of the regions in the country should not expect the South East to be in the vanguard of the present discontent when those other regions feel that the South East is good enough for Nigeria leadership or any other substantial inclusive infrastructure.

Onoh spoke against the background of the former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Prof. Usman Yusuf, who recently expressed surprise against the worsening economic hardship said,

“I honestly don’t know why the South East is quiet, uncharacteristically quiet, but the President needs to find out."

Onoh In his reply to Yusuf, said,

"The South East is uncharacteristically quiet because since after the Civil War, the South East has continued to be dealt with with extreme hardship and had suffered in the midst of plenty while other regions basked in the euphoria of riches and power with a section of the regions feeling very entitled.


The South East is quiet because after the Civil War our properties in the South-South were taken from us and claimed they were abandoned properties and I ask, abandoned by who? That is hardship!

“The South East is quiet because they started life afresh with only £20 after the civil war, given by the Nigerian government. That is hardship.


The South East is quiet today because we have the least number of representatives in both chambers of the National Assembly. The South East is quiet because we are the only region with the least number of States.

The South East is quiet because we are the only region with the least Federal Government presence in almost all areas. The South East is quiet because we have the least Federal Government projects in our region till date.

“The south east is quiet because we are the region with one of the largest markets in West Africa based on geographical size and volume of goods yet has never benefited from the rail project the Federal Government embarked upon during the last administration and focused mainly in the north.


The South East is quiet because we are the only region with the highest number of security check points on the roads leading into our region. It's easier to drive past Ukraine than South East.

The South East is quiet because we are the only region with an International Airport yet no International Airline departs from our region, except for Ethiopia airlines that save the day and that only International Airport is still under construction.

The South East is quiet because the only major mining activity which is coal has been abandoned for years after Eagle Mining Company left in the 90s and the Federal Government never showed any interest again.

The South East is quiet because even the railway properties in our region have all been sold hence the dream for a railway is totally forgotten.

“Some people ask why is the South East always bitter, but they forget that the past administration called it a "dot in a circle" and today there is not one single Foreign Embassy in the region, yet we are the largest importers in the country.

The South East is quiet because they are the only region always punished by every ruling party for exercising their democratic voting rights for their choice of candidate.


The South East is quiet because they are mainly the region that has its buildings demolished and their businesses closed down in other regions of Nigeria once they tried to exercise some certain levels of franchise.

“The South East is quiet because they are always the region that various forms of hostilities of extreme levels are leveled against once there is crisis in Nigeria.

The South East is quiet because they are the only region that are threatened by withdrawal of sales, supplies and distribution of food, livestock and all agricultural produce by a certain region once they express divergent views in the same Nigeria.


“The South East is quiet because we are the least employed in the CBN, FAAN, NPA and all major Federal Government Agencies and Departments in Nigeria.


The South East is quiet because we are the only region without anything to leverage upon except our resilient spirit to persevere even in the darkest scenarios.

Rather, they are now a region that simply sit and watch successive governments put more effort into crafting words to avoid telling the truth than there is invested into drafting a complex policy and working out what is good for the country.


“Finally, we need to transform the political narratives and perceptions of Nigeria from a nation saturated by looters instead of leaders hence I urge the President to strengthen the EFCC and unbundle every political shackles that has interfered with their duties from prosecuting the so called sacred cows, Nigeria isn't India that has abundance of sacred cows. the South East is quiet because we do not have the political luxuries, influence, entitlement and benefits the same region asking why we are quiet has continuously basked in its glory.


The North has held and produced Presidents, the South-South and South West but not the South East hence we see it as a problem between a husband and his wives while we are the houseboy.


The same North asking why we are quiet today forgot that they told us we are a dot in a circle so why has the dot become important now.

“When we had tears to shed, no region whipped away our tears. When we had a voice to shout, they said we were mad. When we cared, they said we had other motives.


Today we are the least represented region in the current administration, we feel we are not wanted, we feel we are hated, we feel isolated, we feel distant, we feel the current administration doesn't care about us hence we have continuously lived under a state of hardship and hopelessness that we don't have any more tears to shed nor voice to shout.


“We have been so traumatized to the extent that we now laugh rather than cry but our laughter is actually the highest level of wailing.


Unfortunately, we feel your pain, your cry and we hear your message loud and clear but unfortunately we are helpless to offer any support or assistance.


Our only message is "welcome to the club.” Nigerians are suffering but we the South Easterners have never known anything other than hardship and suffering. We are constantly treated like outcasts in our country.


“Irrespective of the above, I still believe in President Bola Tinubu, he might not have all the solutions but if we come together as a nation irrespective of whether we like each region or not, I believe a variegated group must agree they want to be a people, preserving our tolerant permissive society and to achieve that we must have the will power to do so.


My advice to the President is simple, "the problem with Nigeria is political, the supposed technocrats and 90 percent of your current appointees have failed you with exception of Nyesom Wike, his response and actions in taming the politically orchestrated kidnappings in the FCT to cripple your administration is a testament to my position that your technocrats have failed you because they know nothing about the political problems affecting Nigeria nor have the structure to support you in moving the country forward.


They only wait for the master to show the Jagaban magic and have left you to be a lone sailor, sailing against turbulent waters.


It's time to reshuffle your cabinet because you can't fight politicians using technocrats who are best suited to work as lecturers in a university environment. Same politicians and their political structure made you the revered Jagaban of today, a magician can never perform his magic without his wand, hence it's time to pick up your wand.


“Until the current government changes its political position on the South East and show inclusiveness, and be fully integrated into the government and treated as equals,the APC led government isn't accepted in the South East because the faith of the entire region is decided by only two APC stakeholders and the administration accepts their position and recommendations as what's best for the region without looking deeper to see the extreme disconnect between their choices and the true choices of the region.

Until these reservations are holistically and politically given attention, be assured that the South East will remain deaf and dumb without the will power to see our nation or the current administration from a different light outside the hardship and suffering they have always known and dealt with in Nigeria.”

SOKOTO State Police Command intercepted five suspected gunmen suspected to be kidnappers who were on evil mission along the Bodinga-Tambunwal Highway.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the Police killed unspecified numbers of the gunmen while five of them were arrested and their sophisticated weapons recovered.

"In continuation of the fight against armed bandits, criminals, and insecurity in Nigeria, on the 13th of February 2024, at about 2030hrs, operatives of the Sokoto State Police Command, acting on gathered intelligence, intercepted and arrested a group of Five (5) persons suspected to be members of a kidnapping syndicate along the Bodinga-Tambunwal Highway.


The suspects were found in possession of three (3) AK-47, 90 rounds of live ammunition, and 3 AK-47 magazines.

The suspects are Abdullahi Ali, Aliyu Mohammed, Abdullahi Umar, Aliyu Abdullahi and Mohammed Anas all confessed to the crime and revealed they were on their way to Tambuwal for a kidnapping operation before being thwarted by the men of the Nigeria Police Force.


Similarly, on the 14th of February 2024, at about 5.50pm, some suspected bandits were spotted close to Gigane Village, Sokoto State, and were immediately pursued by operatives of the State Tactical Team. Upon contact, the bandits engaged the operatives in a fierce gun duel, and some of them were neutralized, while one GPMG rifle with six (6) live ammunition was recovered at the scene.

Efforts are intensified to locate other fleeing members of the gang and criminally minded elements in the state and cause them to face the wrath of the law."

THE Secretary to The Government of the Federation of Nigeria, SGF, Boss Mustapha testified at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court, Abuja on Tuesday on alleged fraud allegation of $6.5 million against the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele.

The Second Prosecution Witness, PW2, in the ongoing trial of former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele, Boss Gida Mustapha, on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, told Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court, Maitama, Abuja, that neither former President Muhammadu Buhari nor himself raised a memo directing the apex bank to pay the sum of $6,230,000 (Six Million, Two Hundred and Thirty Thousand Dollars) in cash for international election observers in the last 2023 general election.

Mustapha told the court he never came across anything about the transaction while he was serving as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and till he left office.

“My Lord, all through my years in service at my capacity, I never came across such a document. Having served for five years, seven months, I can say this document did not emanate from the office of the President”, he said.

Continuing, Mustapha faulted the correspondence Emefiele claimed came from the President's office with a reference number, pointing out that,

“once a correspondence has the President’s seal, there is no need for a reference number, because the seal is the authority”.

“I have looked at it, read it, and the Federal Executive Council’s decisions are not transmitted by letters but through extracts, after conclusions were adopted.

“My Lord, I am a custodian of all records, therefore, the President cannot give me the records, and in all my years in service, I have never heard the term ‘Special Appropriation Provision’ that is referred to here. In all the correspondence I have received from my principal, it has never ended with ‘please accept the assurance of my highest regard'. I am his subordinate, so nothing of such would emanate. And lastly, my Lord, the Nigerian government has nothing to do with financing foreign observers. I know for a fact because I managed two elections, so the responsibility of such lies with INEC”, he said.

Asked by the prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedapo SAN, in respect of exhibit PD7 which states that it was 187 FEC meeting that held in 18 January, 2023; Mustapha affirmed that a FEC meeting held, but it was not 187 session, but rather first meeting of the year because it was January.

“My Lord, there was a meeting and it was the first meeting not 187. It was the first meeting of the year. My Lord, all FEC meetings are normally Presided over by the President or Vice president. In the case of 18 January, it was the Vice president that presided over the meeting because the President was not around. My role was to prepare the agenda of the meeting and on that day, there was a16-point agenda, and there was no agenda that had to do with foreign observers, so it did not appear on the FEC of 18 January, there was no such approval or, anything else from the FEC”, he said.

Asked whether the letter for the approval of the money emanated from his office, Mustapha denied any knowledge regarding it.

“My Lord, to the best of my knowledge, that letter did not emanate from my office, not to talk of signing it. I am saying it was not from me for the following reasons; I was not privy to the operations of CBN, so I cannot write to the governor or the director. Secondly, the heading is defective because it reads ''ref. for election observers.'' It presupposed that there were previous correspondences when you say ref. So my Lord, it is not true because it does not carry any FEC approval. And finally, there was a reference at the end of the letter".

Mustapha further told the court that he was not aware of any Special Taskforce and had no idea who Jibril Abubakar is.

“I wish to state my Lord that, I am not aware of any Special Taskforce and I do not know one Jibril Abubakar, Principal Officer One, who was alleged as the coordinator of this Taskforce, so I did not introduce any Abubakar to CBN governor, he said.

While on cross-examination, Mathiew Bukka SAN, asked whether Mustapha received any amount from the money, he said he did not receive a single dollar when he was serving and when he left office.


Mustapha denied knowledge of Knowing Abubakar, stressing that he had never met him, nor did he ever work for him.

He further said that he knew about the scandal on social media when it was stated that the defendant and himself connived to steal the huge amount of money, and for him to protect and redeem his image and integrity before the world, he then made a Press Release exonerating himself and at the same time encouraged further investigation on getting to the root of the matter.


After his testimony, Justice Muazu adjourned the matter till 7, 11 and 25 March 2023 for continuation of trial.

ACCESS Bank Plc has appointed Ms Bolaji Agbede as the new Chief Executive Officer, CEO of the bank in replacement of the Group of The Managing Director of Access Holdings, Herbert Wigwe who died in air crash with his wife, son and three others on Saturday.

A statement made by the company’s Board of Directors and dated February 12, 2024, stated that the appointment was subject to the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria.


“Further to its announcement dated February 11, 2024, the Board of Directors of Access Holdings Plc (‘the Company’) has today announced the appointment of Ms Bolaji Agbede as the Acting Group Chief Executive Officer of the Company following the unfortunate demise of its former Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr Herbert Wigwe, on February 9, 2024.

“The appointment is subject to the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria,” the statement read in part.

Agbede who joined Access Bank in 2003 as an Assistant General, has nearly three decades of professional experience cutting across banking and business consultancy services.

The First Prosecution Witness, PW1, in the ongoing trial of former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele, Ogau Onyeka Michael, on Monday, February 12, 2024, told Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court, Maitama, Abuja, how the ex-CBN boss approved the payment of $6,230,000 (Six Million, Two Hundred and Thirty Thousand Dollars) in cash for international election observers in the last 2023 general election.

Michael made the revelation while testifying at the ongoing trial of Emefiele.

The former CBN boss is standing trial before Justice Muazu on 20-count amended charges bordering on corrupt advantages, conspiracy, and criminal breach of trust, forgery and obtaining by false pretences to the tune of $6,230,000.00 (Six Million, Two Hundred and Thirty Thousand United States Dollar).

At the resumed trial on Monday, Michael, a former Branch Controller of the CBN, Abuja branch, led in evidence by the prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, identified the documents presented to him by the prosecution adding that he worked on the documents.


According to him, on January 8, 2023, a request for payment in the sum of $6,230,000 came to his office and documents for the disbursement of the money were approved by the then CBN boss in cash for international election observers.

“My Lord, all requests for payments are usually channelled to the branch controller and that is my office. And on that day, my Lord, the request to my office was $6,230,000 and my attention was drawn towards it by my Office Assistant. It came from the Banking Services Department and the memo carried the signature of the Director, Banking Services, with an instruction to the Branch Controller to pay the sum of $6,230,000 to a staff of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, bearing the name and identity card of the person”, he said.

Continuing, Michael explained that,

“it stated that the payment was for election observance and be paid cash in a naira equivalent of the said amount. It further stated that the money should be refunded in the second quarter of 2023 by the Federal Ministry of Finance. My Lord, the document also stated that, ‘find attached the approval of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria for the payment’.

Also, the memo had an attached approval of the then Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and that of the then President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Having gone through the document and satisfied that it met the requirement, I then minuted it to the Head of the Banking Services unit for processing and subsequent payment.


Mr. Williams, Head of Banking Services complied and made the payment on April 8, 2023, and the payment was in cash. I can identify the document because it also carries my signature”, he said.

Oyedepo, while trying to tender all the six documents as exhibits, told the Court that two of the documents that had the former SGF and the President’s approval were a photocopy, and therefore sought to tender the remaining four which were original, praying that the remaining two be tendered later in the course of the trial.

He also asked the court for a 30-minute stand-down to go to the CBN complex and secure the original copies.


Defence Counsel, Mathew Bukka, SAN, objected to Oyedepo’s prayers arguing that since the case was slated for February 12 and 13, he moved that the matter be adjourned till February 13 arguing further that 30 minutes sought by Oyedepo wouldn’t be enough for the prosecution to secure the original documents from the CBN.

After listening to their arguments, Justice Muazu adjourned the matter till February 13, 2024, for continuation of trial.

According to the Spokesperson of the four Police Officers, Inspector Gambo Gamaraju said, the suspect offered them the huge sums of money to let the criminal off the hook but rejected it on the ground that it was unprofessional for them to collect bribe.

FORMER Lawmaker in the Enugu State House of Assembly and the former South East Spokesman of Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Organization, Dr. Josef ONOH has emerged as the Chairman, Forum of former members of the Enugu State House of Assembly.

A former leader of the House of Assembly, Dr Ikechukwu Ezeugwu emerged as Secretary and another former leader of the House, Hon Johnny Obidinma emerged as the Trustee of the Forum.

The Forum of Former Members of Enugu State House of Assembly has vowed to use their wealth of experiences to strengthen Nigerian democracy, advance internal egalitarianism and secure the welfare of its members spread across the 17 Local Government Areas of the State.

Speaking shortly after picking their documents from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in Abuja, the group lamented that most of their members go into oblivion immediately they leave the House of Assembly, with their years of service forgotten while some resort to political endorsements which they noted sometimes bring them into disrepute.

“Our business is to unify these individuals, help ourselves to advance to benefits, the State and the country.

We are apolitical, we are only there as a body to give advice, we are not to endorse candidates or political parties, but we shall follow track records.

Ours is to foster peace, give advice, strengthen and encourage internal democracy and liaise with the State and Federal Government for the peace, security and welfare of the citizens of Enugu State."

Chairman of the Association, Onoh, said, the CAC registered association is to attend to the welfare of all the former members of Enugu state House of Assembly and be good ambassadors while supporting nation building, advisory roles in encouraging statesmanship, entrenching peace and harmony.

He said it was unfortunate that in the time past, former members of the State House of Assembly were used for “careless endorsements” in different quarters through unorganized and unregistered phantom groups.


“But now we have taken the bull by the horn and we have shown the difference. We’re calling on all former members of the Enugu State House of Assembly to meet with the Secretary and enroll because we should begin to have like ideas, like minds, and come together to show support to all former members of the Enugu State House of Assembly irrespective of the year in service, so long as one has served the state as a lawmaker of the House,” Onoh said.

He advised the State and Federal Governments on the urgent needs to entrench democracy, emphasizing that the group is focused on supporting the nation because they consider themselves as Ambassadors towards nation building and not political tools.

“This association will not be involved in endorsing any political party or aspirants for any office but we shall continue to act as statesmen.

We shall be working hand in hand with the security agencies to ensure that security of lives and properties are maintained in various constituencies and convey the positions of our constituents to the appropriate authorities whenever we’re called upon.


"Our members are usually forgotten, even the State Government do not support our families when any of our members fall ill, hence the need for this association.


It is a rallying point to look out for one another. We understand that there is hardship in the country at the moment, though the hardship may not be ascribed to the current government but it's the responsibility of the present government to ensure that the hardship does not continue and I am sure the present government is doing its best.

"Let me however use this opportunity to tell the government that Nigerians are suffering but I know that the government is doing it's best to checkmate the hardship," Onoh said.


The Chairman, Onoh, was a member of the State House of Assembly between 2003 and 2007. the Secretary, Ezeugwu, was a member of the House between 2011 and 2023; while the Publicity Secretary of the group, Chief Johnny Obidinma was a member of the State House of Assembly from 2003 and 2011.


Evidently the forum has the largest grassroot political Base in Enugu State as the former lawmakers have direct contact with their various constituents cut across the entire 17 LGA of Enugu State."

3. Let me elucidate from my little experience. Can anyone in the US use $1 for breakfast? No!

4. But in Nigeria, ₦1.500 will give you breakfast and lunch.
5.Majority of people's monthly house rent (self contained apartment) in the USA is $1,000 and above... and that is your own 2 year's rent!
6. Have you ever paid for insurance before? Insurance in the US is $280 and that is almost ₦100,000 monthly.
7. When last did you pay monthly phone bills? I pay almost ₦40,000 monthly and if I don't, they are going to block my SIM. Your own MTN can be there for months without recharge.
8. When last did you work on Saturday and Sunday?
9. This I do compulsorily and on regular basis.
10. Don't get me wrong, the US is better than Nigeria, depending on which angle you are viewing it.
11. Do you want to hear the truth?
12. Many people in Nigeria live a more fulfilling life compared to their counterparts abroad.


13. Forget about all the packaging on social media and give credit to the good life you are living.
14. Do you know why Nigerians living in the US always rush back quickly whenever they come home visiting?
15. Because bills are counting and elongated absence (freedom) will put their lives in jeopardy.
16. If you, as a black person, attempt to emulate the whites, they will kneel on your neck.
17. Apart from Congo, no citizens in the entire universe enjoy life to the fullest than Nigerians.

18. You are abundantly blessed but you don't know until you get visa and relocate abroad, that is when you will know that your 8-hour job in Nigeria with free weekend is awoof.
19. With 11-hour job abroad, you can only pay bills, you need other 6 to 8 hours jobs to save for the future and plan your life.
20. The truth is that the grass is green everywhere, it's lack of vision greed of our leaders/politicians and the skewed religious practices (which placed emphasis on miracles) that ascended Nigeria onto a myopic tentacle of complete standstill.
21. Always thank God wherever you may find yourself. Nigeria is good and will be better.

A young American mother identified as Mariah Thomas, 26, has been accused of baking her newborn daughter to death in an oven.

According to an arrest warrant, Thomas, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child after one-month-old Za'Riah Mae was found dEad with 'burn wounds', according to an arrest warrant.

On Friday, the day after Thomas birthday, the mom's Kansas City home called the cops to report that a child is not breathing. The infant was found with 'apparent thermal injuries on various parts of her body', with her 'blackened' clothing melted onto her diaper when they arrived.


A traumatized friend of Za’Riah’s mother proposed that her "mental health may have played a role in the tragedy. She also told DailyMail that Za'Riah was a 'very bubbly' baby, who was 'smiling all the time'.


“Mariah had mental issues from what I know and didn't have the mindset of an adult, she thought like a child, the friend said, adding she last talked to the mom on Monday”.

The infant’s grandfather mentioned to the police that Mariah called him as at around 1pm on Friday that something was wrong with Za’Riah and he need to return home. On his return, he immediately perceived smoke . He found the baby dead in her crib and the mother said she had “accidentally” put her in the oven.

Thomas’ is an adorable mother whom refers to her daughter as a “princess” on social media.

Thomas has been transported to Police Headquarters for an interview. She invoked her Fifth Amendment right to remain silent notwithstanding, she consented to detectives obtaining a blood draw and accessing her.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Friday, February 9, 2024 declared Mrs. Margaret Emefiele, wife of former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, and three others, wanted for money laundering.

Others are, Mr Eric Odoh, Anita Omoile and her husband, Jonathan Omoile, were declared wanted Friday night for allegedly conspiring with the former CBN Governor,

“to convert huge sums of money belonging to the Federal Government of Nigeria and committed felony to wit: obtaining money by false pretences, and stealing, contrary to and punishable under Sections 411, 287, and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.”
