The Kano State Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo has tendered unreserved apology to the National Security Adviser, NSA, Nuhu Ribadu on Monday, May 27, 2024 in reaction to a Press Release signed by the former Campaign Spokesman of President Bola Tinubu in the South East, Dr. Josef Onoh published by SOJ WORLDWIDE on Sunday, May 26, 2024.

Onoh had advised the Deputy Governor on Sunday thus;

"As I urge all parties to refrain from escalating a delicate situation and also urged H.E. the Deputy Governor of Kano State to retract his previous statement accusing the Presidency of interference as I hope to believe he may have not been duly informed with correct details prior to making his statement."

Gwarzo in his apology said he was misled into believing that the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu was responsible for providing two Private Jets that convened the deposed Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero into Kano City.

It will also be noted that Ribadu vehemently denied his involvement or the Presidency in the allegation of providing two Jets or in one way or the other intervened in the Kano Emirates logjam.

The NSA threatened a legal action against the Deputy Governor unless he can prove his allegations.


In another development, Onoh condemned the action of former Vice-President and former Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Abubakar Atiku in total terms saying his action is an act of irresponsibility expected of a statesman.

"I am disappointed in the former PDP Presidential Candidate, Atiku for chosing to play a dirty politics at the detriment of the national unity and peace. And I ask Atiku, if this is the type of Nigeria he wants to lead as a President? Had it been he won, he would have compromised the national security of Nigeria"

Onoh wondered if this is the way Atiku would have led a country as diverse as Nigeria.

Onoh who is the Coordinator of ASIWAJU Renewed Mandate Southeast (ARMS) advised the former Vice-president to always play maturity on issues of national security.

"I want to advise Atiku to play maturity on issues as volatile as national security and cohesion of Nigeria.
The respect accorded to him as an Elderstesman by the Presidency is not an act of weakness and there is also a limit to political rascality and when that rascality turns to compromising the national unity there are dire consequences, hence he should guide his utterances."

"As an Elderstesman, I expect Atiku to work for peace in Nigeria not to aggravate issues. His action showed his desperation to rule Nigeria at all costs which is an illusion though."

It will be recalled that when the tension for the Kano Emirates was high, Atiku issued a Press Statement accusing the Presidency of taking sides with the intent to destabilize the peace people have been enjoying in decades.

Atiku in his statement said,

"We need to remind the Tinubu administration that Kano State is known for peace and harmony spanning thousands of years and any attempt to destabilise the peace of the Land of Commerce shall be resisted."

"… the former emir could not have made his way into the Nasarawa Palace without the support of the Federal Government having done so with the support of the army and other security personnel in his company.


The deployment of soldiers in extra-constitutional matters such as this undermines the integrity of the Nigerian military,”

The former Campaign Spokesman of President Bola Tinubu in the South East, Dr. Josef Onoh has described the attempt to drag President Bola Tinubu and the Presidency into Kano State Emirate tussle an act of political rascality taken too far.

Kano State Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam, revealed in an interview with journalists in Kano where he indicted the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu of fueling the crisis in Kano Emirates.

"That the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu ordered the return of HRH Aminu Ado Bayero as Emir of Kano, we’re confused,” he stated.

The Deputy Governor had expressed his administration’s confusion and concern over the Federal directive.

Onoh reacting to the allegations said,

"In Nigeria today, if husband and wife have a private family misunderstanding, they will blame it on President Tinubu"

The accusation attempting to involve the Presidency is simply a well thought out mischievous plan to pitch the North against the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

I'm aware some certain individuals in the North are not comfortable with the position Malam Nuhu Ribadu took over some comments made by some Northern Elites few months ago hence we are not surprised at the unsubstantiated accusations.

The President is focused on the heavy burden of stabilising our Economy which the administration on assumption of office met in a Intensive Care Units (ICU) in a state of coma.


Aside from H.E. Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, I was the second Nigerian to boldly Congratulate His Eminence Emir Sanusi and the people of Kano State while encouraging them to maintain peace and order irrespective of divided personal interests each person may hold.

Governor Yusuf signed the Kano State Emirates Council (Amendment Number 2) Law, 2024, which was aimed to consolidate the emirate system under Kano and reinstate Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II, who was deposed in 2020.

We are aware that Chieftaincy matters remains a residual issues within the constitution that only the State Government and the Local Government have powers of control and administration hence it's ridiculous to involve the President Tinubu and the Presidency.

Irrespective of the Kano Federal High Court injunction which clearly caused the confusion, only the State High Court or Customary Court, Grand Khadi Court in the North have jurisdiction to hear and determine issues relating to Chieftaincy, therefore, injunction relating to Chieftaincy cannot be validly issued by the Federal High Court.


It is wise that all parties apply wisdom especially when the two major individuals are cousins, hence it is not wise to allow politics to divide that which binds both together.


A valid Court Order irrespective of the circumstance must be obeyed.


However, under such circumstances, if the Federal High Court ultimately determines or finds that it does not have jurisdiction but that it is the High Court, in this case, the High Court of Kano State (or another court) that has jurisdiction, the Federal High Court has power, instead of striking out the matter, to transfer the same to the relevant and appropriate Court of jurisdiction.

Hence, it is only wise all parties refrain from dragging politics into such delicate situation.

Finally, On whether an injunction can stop or restrain a completed act, considering that as of the time the Federal High Court made the said interim restraining order, Governor Yusuf had already reportedly signed the Bill into law as well as reinstated Emir Sanusi Lamido.

My opinion is this, that if the reinstatement of Emir Lamido Sanusi had already been carried out before the Interim Order by Hon Justice Liman of the Federal High Court was (later) made, one wonders which action the said order was or is now targeting to stop or restrain.


In an unreported Appeal No: FCA/M6/82 (DAVID "DADA & ANOR FOR THEMSELVES AND OTHER MEMBERS OF MALAOYE (ADEITAN) AND OLUGBOGBO RULING HOUSES OF ADA V. CHAIRMAN OF IFEKODUN LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHIEFTAINCY COMMITTEE & ORS)", the Court of Appeal had held that 
 “When a Court is asked to restrain a party from doing an act pending the decision in a matter before it, but the act has been done, no order to restrain will be made. The reason is simple as it is clear. What is sought to be prevented has in fact happened”.

As I urge all parties to refrain from escalating a delicate situation and also urged H.E. the Deputy Governor of Kano State to retract his previous statement accusing the Presidency of interference as I hope to believe he may have not been duly informed with correct details prior to making his statement.

While we await the outcome of the pending legal issues. And if going by the allegation of the Kano State Government that the Judge was outside the country when the order was issued.

To the best of my knowledge, guidelines for Virtual Court Proceedings (2020) only allowed virtual hearings in certain circumstances, such as urgent matters, interlocutory applications, pre-trial conferences and simple civil cases.


"However, the guidelines mandate that the Judge, parties, and legal
representatives be within Nigeria's
territorial boundaries during virtual proceedings."


"So, a Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria cannot sit over a case virtually from outside the country; he must be within Nigeria's borders to participate in virtual court proceedings," Onoh said.

I received with dismay yesterday the news of the purported approval of permanent employments of some freelance staff of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC) by Governor Ademola Adeleke which littered the media space, claiming that the governor has approved permanent employments for the freelance staff of the Corporation. The claim is not only fallacious, satirical but ridiculous that a government would boldly claim the glory that doesn't belong to it.

For record purposes, the uninterrupted twelve years of the progressive government witnessed a tremendous landmark in the history of the state particularly on the state government-owned media outfit (OSBC) as many interventions were made to reposition the station to compete favourably with its counterparts in the digital world in line with the best practices in the broadcasting industry across the globe.

It is on record that the administration of the erstwhile Governor Adegboyega Oyetola did not only prioritize the station in the scheme of things while he was serving as the governor but he also ensured that all the 66 freelance staff who were presented to him were recruited into the State Civil Service and issued with employment letters before he exited office in 2022.

It is documented that former Governor Oyetola in his magnanimity after he painstakingly considered the request of the management of the broadcast station graciously and expressly approved permanent jobs for the said 66 freelance workers who were hitherto placed on monthly stipends by the Corporation for several years.

Records also showed that all the claims made by the management as to the requisite needs for the employment at that material time were made and fulfilled not until the incumbent government through its anti-workers' Executive Order nullified the appointment and invalidated the legal actions taken by the former governor for no just cause.

Recall that Governor Adeleke upon assumption of office issued different Executive Orders to nullify many of the official steps and actions constitutionally taken by his predecessor for personal and political reasons, a heinous decision that led to the sack of many traditional rulers, thousands of the Volunteers/Cadets of Osun Youth Employment Schemes (OYES); vendors of Osun School Feeding and Health Programme popularly called (OMEAL); School Teachers; Health Workers among others.

However, the instrumentality of the obnoxious Executive Order which was a product of vendetta and political vindictiveness was equally applied on the OSBC freelance staff by the governor when he assumed office as he deliberately ordered for the immediate withdrawal of their employment letters in compliance with the fresh anti-people decision. By implication, the pronouncement made by the government on the fresh employments was nothing but a charade and a purely political jamboree calculated to score a cheap and unmerited political point.

One would wonder how a government remains hellbent in taking glory of good works that do not belong to it? It is crystal clear that the discerning citizens who could separate the grains from the chaff know the truth, nothing but the truth between the genuine leaders and political interlopers and impostors.

It is on record that the same PDP-led government in Osun went on air to claim the glory of Osogbo-Ikirun road that had reached 80 per cent completion before coming to power. One would still wonder how possible in Nigeria of today for such a dual carriage way will be completed within some days and with less than 500 million if not for scam and fraudulent tendencies.

While it is necessary for the citizens to be more vigilant and wary of the deceptive nature of the current government, I want to say with every sense of modesty that no fresh employment was made whatsoever in OSBC as the narrative pushed out by the government media handlers was not only misleading and egocentric, it is indeed a fiction from the pit of the hell which was fabricated to hoodwink the unsuspecting members of the public particularly the bureaucrats.

We were in the state when the state government under the leadership of Governor Adeleke in an effort to tarnish the image of the erstwhile governor claimed that the Government House was looted which later proved to be a mere fabrication. We were in Osun when the state government erroneously claimed that government vehicles were carted away which till today still remained sophistic. We were in Osun when the incumbent government said no meaningful effort was made in the mineral resources particularly in the mining sector by the previous administration which later proved untrue but quite unfortunate, till today nothing meaningful has been made by the current government to fulfill its promises in that regard.

We were in Osun when the state government claimed it established the Ilesa University which had been far approved and established by the former Governor Oyetola. We were in the state when the current government claimed that it only met humongous debt but failed to acknowledge the huge amount of money to the tune of N14bn left in the state's coffers by its predecessor. These and many were credible claims to describe the kind of government that governs our dear state today.

As a discerning mind, opinions are free, truths are sacred. We can't dissipate meaningful effort on this claim because it has no substance to be debated upon.

But for the benefit of the general public on this fresh phoney employments of Governor Adeleke, the truth is that a list comprised of 66 names of freelance staff were presented by the OSBC management to the former Governor Oyetola for approval and same were granted which later snowballed into the permanent employments of those people then. No more, no less. So, the yesterday drama was just a reversal of the obnoxious Executive Order that was used to withdraw the appointment letters from the beneficiaries.

The deposed Emir of Kano arrived Kano City on Saturday morning with a mission to occupy the Palace where the new reinstated Emir, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is already occupying with the backing of the State Governor, Abba Yusuf.

Governor Yusuf had ordered the arrest of the deposed Emir, Ado Bayero for causing tension and an attempt to breach the peace of the city.

"Military officers arrived at Gidan Nassarawa to escort the 15th Emir of Kano, HRH Aminu Ado Bayero, to the Main Emir's Palace where the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, is also located.

Meanwhile, the Deputy governor of Kano, accompanied by his security personnel, remains alongside Emir Sanusi Muhammad II in a commitment to not depart from the palace. 

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has urged all its members to move to the Emir Palace where the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi is located, to prevent the reinstatement of the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayaro.

This matter is escalating too fast."

Meanwhile, TVC News, in his 'Exclusive' news on its official X.com Page monitored by SOJ WORLDWIDE wrote;

"EXCLUSIVE: The reinstated Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II has returned to the Kano Emir’s Palace in the early hours of Saturday.

The Emir arrived at the Kano Royal Palace in company of Governor Abba Yusuf, his deputy, Aminu Abdussalam and the speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Yusuf Falgore.

Heavy security has been deployed to the Kano Emir’s Palace to maintain law and order.


The Emir of Kano while interacting with journalists expressed joy at the development thanking the government at state and national level for their support."

The troubles in Kano Emirship, Nigerians said was caused by the politicians struggling for supremacy at the detriment of our traditional institutions.

THE Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC has again rejected another minimum wage offer of N54,000, N6,000 above initial offer of N48,000

At the reconvened meeting this week, the Federal Government made a fresh proposal to pay N54,000 as against the initial N48,000 it proposed during the last sitting.

However, a reliable source at the meeting told Channels TV’s labour correspondent that the Organised Labour refused the new proposal, as it is a far cry from the N615,000 proposed by both the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

According to the source, the meeting which held behind closed doors at the Nicon luxury hotel in Abuja on Tuesday has been adjourned to Wednesday, May 22 to continue with negotiation.

The Organised Labour comprising the NLC and the TUC had on Tuesday given the Federal Government up till the end of May to conclude negotiations for a new minimum wage.

The unions also directed their members in states that are owing the N30,000 minimum wage to gear up for industrial action.

May 31 Deadline
The Federal Government had failed to present a nationally acceptable minimum wage to Nigerians before the May 1 Labour Day.

The situation has forced labour to be at loggerheads with the government. In the wake of the tussle, NLC President Joe Ajaero insisted on the N615,000 minimum wage, arguing that the amount was arrived at after an analysis of the economic situation worsened by the hike in the cost of living and the needs of an average Nigerian family of six.

With the cost of living rising following the removal of fuel subsidy, calls for a new minimum wage have continued to make headlines in Nigeria.

Ajaero and labour leaders gave the Federal Government a May 31 deadline to meet their demands.

UNITED States President, Joe Biden has described the arrest warrants placed on the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu and the Hamas Leader by the International Criminal Court, ICC as outrageous.

The warrants was as a result of  the killings of Israelis on October 7, 2023 and the alleged genocide in Gaza in which over 35,000 people were killed by  the Israeli Defence Forces IDF in retaliation of October 7 attacks.

Biden called the International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor's application for arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant "outrageous".

The International Criminal Court, ICC is seeking arrest warrants for Hamas leader in Gaza Yahya Sinwar and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity over the October 7 attacks on Israel and the subsequent war in Gaza, the court’s prosecutor Karim Khan told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour in an exclusive interview on Monday.

Khan said the ICC’s prosecution team is also seeking warrants for Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, as well as two other top Hamas leaders — Mohammed Diab Ibrahim al-Masri, the leader of the Al Qassem Brigades who is better known as Mohammed Deif, and Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas’ political leader.

The warrants against the Israeli politicians mark the first time the ICC has targeted the top leader of a close ally of the United States.

The decision puts Netanyahu in the company of the Russian President Vladimir Putin, for whom the ICC issued an arrest warrant over Moscow’s war on Ukraine, and the Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi, who was facing an arrest warrant from the ICC for alleged crimes against humanity at the time of his capture and killing in October 2011.

By applying for the arrest warrants against Israeli and Hamas leaders in the same action, Khan’s office risks attracting criticism that it places a terror organization and an elected government on an equivalent footing.

A panel of ICC judges will now consider Khan’s application for the arrest warrants.

Khan said the charges against Sinwar, Haniyeh and al-Masri include “extermination, murder, taking of hostages, rape and sexual assault in detention.”

“The world was shocked on the 7th of October when people were ripped from their bedrooms, from their homes, from the different kibbutzim in Israel,” Khan told Amanpour, adding that “people have suffered enormously.

Hamas-led militants killed around 1,200 people across several locations in Southern Israel on October 7, 2023 and took some 250 hostages into Gaza.




Many of the hostages are still being held in Gaza – Khan told Amanpour this meant crimes continued to be committed against “so many innocent Israelis … that are held hostage by Hamas and families that are waiting for their return.”


Khan told Amanpour his team has a “variety of evidence” to support the application for arrest warrants against Sinwar, Haniyeh and al-Masri, including authenticated video footage and photographs from the attacks as well as evidence from eyewitnesses and survivors.

Khan said Israel had “every right and indeed an obligation to get hostages back, but you must do so by complying with the law.”

Responding to the announcement by Khan, Hamas said in a statement that it “strongly condemns the attempts of the ICC Prosecutor to equate victims with aggressors by issuing arrest warrants against a number of Palestinian resistance leaders without legal basis.”

“Hamas calls on the ICC Prosecutor to issue arrest warrants against all war criminals among the occupation leaders, officers, and soldiers who participated in crimes against the Palestinian people, and demands the cancellation of all arrest warrants issued against Palestinian resistance leaders,” the group added.

‘Nobody is above the law’
The charges against Netanyahu and Gallant include “causing extermination, causing starvation as a method of war, including the denial of humanitarian relief supplies, deliberately targeting civilians in conflict,” Khan told Amanpour.

“The fact that Hamas fighters need water doesn’t justify denying water from all the civilian population of Gaza,” he added.

More than 35,500 Palestinians have been killed and more than 79,000 wounded in Gaza since October 7, the Ministry of Health in Gaza said on Monday. CNN cannot independently verify the figures.

Netanyahu called the decision “a political outrage.”

“They will not deter us and we will continue in the war until the hostages are released and Hamas is destroyed,” he said at a meeting of the parliamentary group of his Likud party.

Other Israeli officials echoed his sentiments. Benny Gantz, a member Israel’s war cabinet, criticized Khan’s decision immediately after it was announced, saying that Israel was fighting “with one of the strictest moral codes in history, while complying with international law and boasting a robust independent judiciary.”

“Drawing parallels between the leaders of a democratic country determined to defend itself from despicable terror to leaders of a blood-thirsty terror organisation is a deep distortion of justice and blatant moral bankruptcy,” he said, adding that the decision by the prosecutors “is in itself a crime of historic proportion to be remembered for generation.”

The leader of the opposition, Yair Lapid, said the application for the arrest warrants was “a complete moral failure.”

“We cannot accept the outrageous comparison between Netanyahu and Sinwar … We will not remain silent,” he said.

Israel’s President Isaac Herzog called it “beyond outrageous.”

When reports surfaced last month that the ICC Chief Prosecutor was considering this course of action, Netanyahu said that any ICC arrest warrants against Senior Israeli government and military officials “would be an outrage of historic proportions,” and that Israel “has an independent Legal System that rigorously investigates all violations of the law.”

Asked by Amanpour about the comments made by Netanyahu, Khan said: “Nobody is above the law.”

He said that if Israel disagrees with the ICC, “they are free, notwithstanding their objections to jurisdiction, to raise a challenge before the Judges of the court and that’s what I advise them to do.”

Israel and the United States are not members of the ICC.

However, the ICC claims to have jurisdiction over Gaza, East Jerusalem and the West Bank after Palestinian leaders formally agreed to be bound by the court’s founding principles in 2015.

The ICC announcement on Monday is separate from the case that is currently being heard by the the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over an accusation from South Africa that Israel was committing genocide in its war against Hamas following the October 7 attacks.

While the ICJ considers cases that involve countries and nations, and the ICC is a criminal court, which brings cases against individuals for war crimes or crimes against humanity.

Monday’s announcement is not the first time that the ICC acted in relation to Israel. In March 2021, Khan’s office launched an investigation into possible crimes committed in the Palestinian territories since June 2014 in Gaza and the West Bank.

Located in The Hague, Netherlands, and created by a treaty called the Rome Statute first brought before the United Nations, the ICC operates independently.


Most countries – 124 of them – are parties to the treaty, but there are notable exceptions, including Israel, the US and Russia.

That means that if the court grants Khan’s application and issues arrest warrants for the five men, any country that is a member would have to arrest them and extradite them to The Hague.

Under the rules of the court, all signatories of the Rome Statute have the obligation to cooperate fully with its decisions. This would make it extremely difficult for Netanyahu and Gallant to travel internationally, including to many countries that are among Israel’s closest allies – including Germany and the United Kingdom.

Sinwar, Haniyeh and al-Masri have been officially designated as global terrorists by the US, meaning they are under travel bans, asset freezes and sanctions.

The US, the UK, Japan, Canada as well as the European Union and others have designated Hamas as a terror group and imposed sanctions on its leaders.

Early Life:

Moremi Ajasoro was a 12th century Yoruba queen from the Yorubaland region of modern-day southwestern Nigeria. She was originally from Offa, one of the cities under the Leadership of Oyo Empire, which was also under the control of the Oduduwa clan. She was a wife to King Oduduwa, the heir to the king of Ile-Ife. Moremi was a hunter and became a citizen of Ile-Ife by virtue of her marriage.

Ugbo Invasion:

The market in Ile-Ife was the mother of all markets in Yorubaland due to its location within the sacred Kingdom of Ife and its commercial vibrancy.

The Ugbo people were also known as “Forest people” due to the way they appear in their several attacks on the people of Ile-Ife. They are always covered in raffia leaves and people of Ile-Ife believed that they are spirits from the forest. Ile-Ife suffered constant attacks from raids from the people of the Ugbo tribe who kidnapped the women and children from the city.

Liberation of Ile-Ife:

The Queen consulted an Orisha, the goddess of river, at the Esimirin river. The goddess offered to help Queen Moremi solve the problems facing her people while Moremi in return made pledge of a great sacrifice to the Spirit of the river Esimirin.

The grand plan the river goddess gave Moremi was to allow herself to be kidnapped by the Ugbo people and taken as slave. Moremi being a very beautiful and brave woman was attracted to the leader of the Ugbo people after she was captured and taken into the Ugbo’s King palace to become one of his wives.

After discovering the secrets of her new husband’s army, she escaped to Ile-Ife and revealed this to the Yorubas, who were then able to subsequently conquer them in battle.

Sacrifice:

Following the war, she returned to her first husband, King Oranmiyan of Ile-Ife Ife, who immediately had her re-instated as his Queen. Moremi returned to the Esimirin River to fulfill her pledge. The river demanded she sacrificed her only son named Oluorogbo.

TRUCK Driver who was involved in Florida bus crash that killed 8 farm workers and left at least 40 people injured on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 in North-Central Florida has been charged with eight counts of “Driving Under the Influence - manslaughter,” according to a news release from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.

The 2010 International Bus carrying “approximately 53 farm workers” and a 2001 Ford Ranger sideswiped each other around 6:35 a.m., about 15 miles west of Ocala, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a statement.

The Ford, “for unknown reasons, traveled toward the center line” before the vehicles struck each other, Lt. Patrick Riordan of the Florida Highway Patrol said during a news conference at the scene. The bus then left the roadway, went through a fence and overturned.

Bryan Maclean Howard, the driver of the Ford Ranger, was arrested Tuesday afternoon, Dave Kerner, the Executive Director of the highway safety department, said in a statement. CNN has not yet been able to determine if Howard has an attorney.

Eight people are dead while 45 injured were taken to medical facilities, including eight in critical condition, James Lucas with Marion County Fire Rescue said earlier in the day.

“There’s a high probability this may be beyond eight fatalities,” Riordan said, noting some of the injured, including the driver of the pickup truck, are in “very serious condition.”

“Identities of the deceased will be released pending next of kin notification,” Kerner said in his statement. “Our sympathies and prayers are with the families of the deceased. Consistent with our duties, the Florida Highway Patrol will conduct both a thorough and exhaustive traffic crash and criminal investigation.”

Footage captured by CNN affiliate WESH showed the bus – which Riordan said was taking the workers to a farm in the area – lying on its side in a field, with first responders’ vehicles parked nearby, their lights flashing.

Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods indicated authorities believe the bus passengers were migrant workers, telling reporters, “We’re a very big agricultural county. So this time of year, we always have migrant workers that are in our county, that are on buses just like this.”

In a news conference Tuesday evening, Juan Sabines, the Mexican consul in Orlando, said the victims were all from Mexico and were in the United States on temporary agricultural worker visas.


“Please pray for these nationals,” Sabines said. “We hear a lot of bad things of the immigrants all the time, in the reality, these people (are) good people. (They are) very good people, young people.”

“They stay in this country just for work, with (a) visa,” he added. “These (are) very good people and now they lost the main support of their family.”


Crash investigation
Woods noted there were challenges with language barriers, but said bilingual sheriff’s office personnel and support staff were assisting in the investigation.

The National Transportation Safety Board is monitoring the situation, it said, and the US Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration similarly said it was aware of the crash.

“Our sincere thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the community as FMCSA assesses currently available information in support of state and local safety officials,” an agency spokesperson said.

Westbound lanes on Highway 40 will be closed “for most of the day,” the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said on its Facebook page, asking motorists to take alternate routes.

OSUN State Police Command has arrested a First Bank Branch Manager in Osogbo identified as Adeniyi Sunday Talabi for allegedly defrauding unsuspecting people with the sum of N650,850,000 under false pretence in an illegal Proof Of Funds (POF).

In a Press Release by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Yemisi Opalola available to SOJ WORLDWIDE, she alleged that Talabi was arrested for allegedly defrauded 35 people in the criminal acts.

Police noted that the suspect has been suspended by the management of the bank.

"The Osun State Police Command under the leadership of CP Mohammed Umar Abba in its efforts to rid off criminal elements from the State has arrested a serial fraudster one Adeniyi Sunday Talabi ‘m’ 47 years, a resident of Army Barracks Area, Kelebe, Iragbiji road, Osogbo, a manager in one of the First Bank PLC branches in Osogbo for an offence of fraud, Obtaining money under false pretence (OBT), Conversion and Stealing amounting to the sum of six hundred and fifty million eight hundred and fifty thousand naira only (N650, 850,000) in an illegal product called PROOF of FUNDS which involved a total number of thirty five (35) victims (people).

It is worthy to note that the said suspect has been suspended by the First Bank Nigeria Plc his former employers.

Investigation into the case has since commenced and the suspect and his accomplices would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

The CP re-assures the good people of Osun State of the Command’s commitment to rid the State of criminal elements. He also warns perpetrators of crimes that Osun State will not be a safe haven or a hibernating ground for them."

In a grand ceremony held at the Ede Palace, Osun State, the Asiwaju Of Ede vowed to be a frontliner (Asiwaju) of development and growth for Edeland and Osun State as a whole.

According to him,

"I vow to be a frontliner (Asiwaju) of development and growth for Edeland and Osun State as a whole.

"I will carry the light of positive transformation from towns to villages and from cities to rural areas across our dear State.

"To all Asiwaju title holders of various towns in Osun State, I welcome myself into your midst.


"On a lighter mood, I believe you are eager to receive me not just as the Asiwaju of Edeland but as the Asiwaju of Osun State, he said.

It will be recalled that former Governor of Osun State, Isiaka Adeleke, who was the brother of the incumbent Governor of the state who passed on in 2017 was the immediate past Asiwaju of Edeland. Today also marked double honours for Governor Adeleke who also marked his 64th birthday today.

The event witnessed the presence of the former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, former Governors of Oyo, Rasheed Ladoja, Ondo, Olusegun Mimiko and Osun, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Soun of Ogbomosho, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Makama Oyelude, Orangun of Oke-Ila, Oba Adedokun Abolarin and a hosts of others.

TAIWO Adejobi has sent Save Our Soul, SOS to the Ogun State Police Command and the general public to track his Toyota Camry car and three-year-old baby stolen by armed robbers at his residence at Ikenne area of Ogun State.

It was gathered that Fayobi was attempting to open the gate of his house, when the hoodlums entered his vehicle and drove away with the three-year-old son.

The development threw Fayobi into confusion and raised the alarm over the incident.

He, thereafter, proceeded to the nearest police station to lodge a complaint so the suspects would be tracked down and arrested.

Confirming the development in a post on X on Saturday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omotola Odutola, identified the number plate of the stolen car as PKA 446 GV.

The post read,

“Stolen Car / Child. On May 11, 2024. One Taiwo Fayobi, a resident in Ikenne, Ogun State, reported he alighted from his Toyota Camry PKA 446 GV to open his gate.
“Two hoodlums zoomed off with his car, with his three-year-old son inside. Influencers please share to save the boy.” - Police pleaded.

FEDERAL High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite on Friday, May 10, 2024 has ordered former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello for arraignment before any of his applications can be entertained by the court.

The judge further held that Bello, who is facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on an alleged N80.2billion fraud, is acting in disrespect and contempt of the court by resisting lawful arraignment and as such lacks any entitlement for his applications to be heard by the same court.

Justice Nwite made the ruling following applications of Bello’s lawyer, Abdulwahab Mohammed, SAN, on April 23, 2024, for the revocation of the arrest warrant issued by the court on the former Governor and the determination of the court’s jurisdiction in entertaining the trial as well as the preliminary objection for the enforcement of Bello’s Fundamental Human Rights as ruled by Kogi State High Court, Lokoja.

Prosecution Counsel, Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, had at the last sitting of the court, responded that entertaining the applications without arraignment of the defendant was improper in the administration of criminal justice and tantamount to putting the cart before the horse.


Ruling on the matter on Friday, Justice Nwite held that any party that disrespects the court is not entitled to his prayers to be heard by the same court.

“Yahaya Bello is acting in disobedience of the court. Anyone in contempt of the court is not entitled to be heard.

The defendant should make himself available. He ought to make himself available in court. The defendant is taking this court for granted. The application of the defendant cannot be heard unless he is present in court,” he said.

The Defence Counsel responded to the ruling by praying for a stay of proceeding in the trial in the manner he claimed the Kogi State High Court, Lokoja had done pending the determination of EFCC’s appeal against the contempt proceeding initiated by Bello against EFCC’s Executive Chairman, Mr Ola Olukoyede.


“We have filed a contempt proceeding against the EFCC Chairman, which has been challenged in the Appeal Court. We are applying that this court should wait for the outcome of the appeal hence the Appeal Court is a superior court,” he said.

In response, lead Prosecution Counsel on Friday, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN took umbrage at the defence team’s prayer for a stay of proceedings, stating that such was at variance with the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.

“My Lord did not mince words in affirming the sanctity of the court and its hallowed temple. If anyone feels that because he has attained a certain level in society and begins to treat the court with contempt, that is a master key and floodgates to anarchy.

“I expected my learned counsel to tread the path of honour and clearly show that his client should not treat his Lordship and the court with disdain. His Lordship’s ruling clearly forbids entertaining applications from the defendant. My Lordship should not entertain the application until the defendant is here"

“A fugitive cannot be seeking redress in court. Section 40 of EFCC Act states that your Lordship shall not entertain any application for a stay of execution. Section 306 of ACJA also states that stay of proceedings shall not be entertained”, he said.

Justice Nwite came down hard on the defence lawyer after listening to the submissions.

“You are the one who is misleading the defendant. What is your fear? How many people have you heard that the EFCC killed? The EFCC is a law-abiding agency. Is your client the only past governor who has been invited by the EFCC? Bring him to court and I will entertain your applications", he said.

He adjourned the matter till June 13, 2024 for Bello’s arraignment.

The EFCC is prosecuting Yahaya Bello alongside his nephew Ali Bello, Dauda Suleiman and Abdulsalam Hudu on 19-count charges bordering on money laundering to the tune of N80, 246, 470,089.88k (Eight Billion, Two Hundred and Forty-six Million, Four Hundred and Seventy Thousand and Eighty-nine Naira, Eighty-eighty Kobo).
