CrimeINSIDE LIFE: HOODLUMS Hijack Faulty Truck Loaded With Cows, Made Away With The by SojWORLDWIDE(op): 10:16am On Jun 21, 2024
AS hunger bites harder in Nigeria, some hoodlums have resorted to take the ugly advantage to hijack a faulty truck loaded with cows, looted parts of the cows.

In a viral video, some youths were seen carrying heads of the cows.

There is no evidence to show that the cows were butchered inside the truck because the looters only came with the heads.

"There's hunger in the land
We've not seen anything yet.

This cattle bearing truck had engine problems and as the driver parked to solve the problem, hungry youths mounted the truck and butchered all the cows with each of them going home with what he could grab.
This is the beginning of worse things to come.

Nigeria is sitting on a keg of gun powder!"

PoliticsJune 12 Struggles: How Bayo Onanuga Escapes Abacha's Bullets By Adesoji Omosebi by SojWORLDWIDE(op): 9:15pm On Jun 20, 2024
THIS is a special tribute to Bayo Onanuga on his 67th birthday. He was a torn in the flesh of military dictatorships during the regime of Generals Ibrahim Babangida and Sani Abacha.

Onanuga who was the Editor-in-Chief and Founder of TheNews and Tempo magazines along with other fiery journalists risked their lives for the enthronement of the present democracy since 1999.

Many of these journalists were hounded into various prisons across Nigeria, veteran journalists like Dele Giwa was bombed to death while Kano Bureau of the Tempo, Bagauda Kaltho was missing in a mysterious circumstance till today, no one knows his whereabouts.

At a time, TheNews and the Tempo were Proscribed yet these fearless journalists published from their hideouts for Nigerians to know news updates.

I remembered I received my weekly Tempo and TheNews at my office in Bookshop House along Broad Street, Lagos.

I rather prefer not to eat than not paying for subscription for Tell, The News and Tempo.  It never occurred to me that I will still become an Online Publisher, my love for journalism knew no bounds.

Ever since my secondary days, I love reading Ebino Topsy and Tai Solarin on the 'State of The Nation' in the Sunday Tribune.

This is to celebrate a veteran icon in Journalism, Bayo Onanuga as he clocks 67 today.

On behalf of SOJ WORLDWIDE ONLINE NEWS, I wish our fearless activist, Bayo Onanuga a glorious birthday, long life and prosperity with joy, peace, happiness, sound health and God's protection.

This interview with The Nation anchored by Jide Babalola is dedicated to Onanuga who narrated how he narrowly escaped Abacha's bullets during the fierce struggles to enthrone democracy in Nigeria.

"Without any equivocation, Bayo Onanuga, along with the likes of his ‘fellow conspirators’, remains among the greatest icons of Nigerian journalism owing to his fearless and passionate leadership for committed journalists in confronting military rule. The News magazine, TEMPO and PM News that he founded along with his colleagues became thorns in the flesh of Nigeria’s military regimes.

Now in his first-ever assignment on the side of government as the Managing Director/CEO of the News Agency of Nigeria, Mr. Bayo Onanuga casts a backward glance at the pro-democracy struggle for the cause of June 12, 1993 election won by Chief MKO Abiola. He spoke with The Nation’s Assistant Editor, ‘Jide Babalola."

Enjoy The Interview in Honour of Bayo Onanuga:
Where were you on the date the annulment of June 12 1993 election was announced by Babangida’s military regime ?
I think I was in my office and when we heard it from our correspondent in Abuja, we initially thought it was a joke. The initial feeling was that no, it could not be possible. But our correspondent confirmed that there was a statement issued by Mr Nduka Irabor. At that time, Mr. Irabor was working for the Chief of General Staff (CGS).

For most of us who took part in the election of June 12 and for us , as a news organisation , because we already had the result and we already knew that Abiola had already won the election fair and square, we felt a sense of outrage, we felt it was wrong. We felt it was a monumental injustice to deny Abiola of his victory. We did not need anybody’s prodding on what we should do. We just felt we had a campaign for justice to wage. That was how it all started.

Don’t forget that before the June 12, 1993 election and before the 23rd June annulment of the election, there was another annulment before then in which some aspirants under both the SDP and NRC came out to contest for the presidential primaries of their respective political parties. Just after the results had been declared, Babangida decided to annul their election.

The underlying political trend at the time was quite significant in Nigeria’s history. You found a person like Shehu Yar’Adua beating Lateef Jakande in Lagos. There were several political upsets like that. But Babangida did not just annul the whole exercise, but went further to ban the contestants from further participating in politics.
READ ALSO:.  WHAT Emefiele will be remembered for by ONANUGA, OTHERS

The ban paved way for Abiola’s emergence as an aspirant for presidency in the SDP. Abiola came out, believing that the regime had learnt its lessons and that it was ready to turn a new leaf. Also, the citizens also believed that the transition programme was going to be a real transition programme, dismissing the anxieties of some activists that the transition programme, as being implemented had a ‘Hidden Agenda”.

After the primaries of the parties, Abiola emerged as the presidential candidate for the SDP. Tofa got the NRC ticket.
We were set for the election. Then came attempts to stop the election with a court judgement delivered at night. But another court ruled that the election should go ahead. So everybody voted. I voted too.

Part of reasons why the annulment pained me most was that I remembered that on the day I was going to vote, I made a lot of efforts to ensure I voted.

Then, somebody said the election had been cancelled. It was only natural we shared the national outrage in our newspapers. As journalists, we felt we should use our own tools to redress the injustice of that time.

The shock and disappointment was the primary inspiration for fighting against the annulment?
It was central to it. And even more important was the need for the enthronement of justice in our country. Those were the reasons we joined the struggle to validate June 12.

You have had some problems with the Babangida regime before then. What really happened?
Before we started publishing in February 1993, I was working for MKO Abiola’s Concord Press, as the Editor of the African Concord magazine. In April 1992, the Concord Organisation was shut down by Babangida’s administration. Because what we published in the magazine was the ‘cause’ of the shut-down , Abiola asked me to go and apologize to Babangida and Halilu Akilu, the Director of Military Intelligence. I opted to resign from African Concord. Many of the Senior Editors also resigned. So, we went to form ‘The News’ magazine and very early in the life of ‘The News’ magazine, when we were not up to three months old , they came to shut down our office. We then had a meeting: should we just go back home and go and start selling fish (a good business at the time ) or find something else to do? We decided to continue and see how far we could go in defying the military regime.

We had no office. We were operating from a space given to us by a friend. We continued to publish as if nothing happened. Initially, the regime did not do anything, but when they found out we were still publishing, in fact we were even publishing things that they termed subversive, they decided to act further .

The last interview we published before they proscribed the magazine was the interview with former Head of State, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, in which he told us how the Babangida group toppled him. The title of the interview was “How I Was Toppled: Buhari”. One of the persons who conducted the interview was Bagauda Kaltho, who was later killed by the State.

So, an interview with Buhari precipitated the final closure of ‘the News’ magazine?
Yes. What Buhari’s interview precipitated was our final closure and proscription. We just heard it on radio. We had advertised that we were coming out with the Buhari interview and of course, we also tried to whet appetites by disclosing some of the things Buhari said in the interview.

That week when the magazine was about to come out, they announced the proscription and also declared many of our editors, including myself, wanted . In the interview, Buhari warned that the entire ‘transition programme ’ of the IBB military regime was a waste of time and that it was going to lead us to a pseudo-democracy. Eventually, we had the June 12, 1993 election about a week afterwards and it was a peaceful election, only for the government to annul it eleven days after.

Let no one distort history : the election was conclusive, the official results declared in each of the 30 states and Abuja. We already knew the results. Abiola won in 19 states and Abuja. Tofa won in 11 states. Abiola also defeated Tofa in Kano, Tofa’s home state. We published the election results in ‘The News’ magazine.

After that proscription and police announcing a manhunt for us, we again had to plan our next line of action. We had a meeting with all our staff and the idea was that we should float another magazine, ‘TEMPO’. The founding editors would henceforth play a backroom role. That was how TEMPO came to be.

TEMPO was going to be like ‘The News’ magazine, a normal magazine . I could recall that during the printing of our first edition, we were at the press and while the very beautiful magazine was being rolled out, the security services people suddenly appeared at the Abiola Press in Isolo, Lagos where we were printing.

When they came, they didn’t know me and they ordered the people working on the magazine to stop working. We were there because at that time, you needed to be there to ensure that no one succeeded in stealing your magazine . They ordered us, myself and Seye Kehinde, now publisher of City People, to pack our magazine into their truck. We had no other choice than to help them load our confiscated magazine into the truck. While we were loading the truck, we suspected at a stage, that the operatives could ask for our ID and decided to hide in one of the offices.

And that was what happened. Later they were shouting “Where are those men that were helping us to load, we are looking for them”. Because we had worked at Concord Press before, we shut ourselves inside one of the offices. We left when we were sure they had gone.

It all happened on a Saturday night. We left in great despair and we nearly gave up but for the luck of meeting Alhaji Lateef Jakande.

I met him at a function on Monday and the news was already all over the place that the military regime had seized TEMPO. So, Alhaji Jakande asked: “What are you going to do next?” And I said: “ I don’t know sir”. And he said: “Why don’t you turn the magazine into a tabloid. I can print for you?”
Tabloid? It never occurred to us that we could go tabloid, until the old master mentioned it. It was not a bad idea at all.

I left that function; it was that of a newspaper, “The Economist” being run by Haroun Adamu. That was where I met Alhaji Jakande. I left that place to meet my colleagues where we were always holding our meetings. I told them what Alhaji Jakande suggested. Everybody jumped at it.

Luckily, we had the negatives of the seized edition. So it was the negatives that we took to Jakande’s place. The lithographers had to re-shoot them all and blow them up to fit the newspaper size, which is the tabloid size. That was how we rolled out that magazine that they said they had seized. It came out on a Thursday because we had to use the entire Tuesday and Wednesday to plan it .

That was how it came out on Thursday. People were surprised that the TEMPO that the regime claimed to have banned still came out on the streets. That was the beginning of our guerrilla journalism.

Jakande was our first printer. But later, when we saw that he could not cope because the press was a small press, we now started looking for a bigger facility and the person that I went to meet was Chief Jim Nwobodo. He had run a newspaper called “The Satellite” in Ikeja, at that time and the paper had stopped coming out. I approached him and he agreed to print for us. We moved our printing to Satellite Press.

While all those stories were going round that we were printing underground somewhere, It was Jim Nwobodo and his Satellite Press that were printing for TEMPO. We were very careful not to go there during daytime; we only went there at night and before morning, we had finished printing.

That was how the guerrilla thing started. Well, we were guerrillas in the sense that we were not operating in the normal mode of other newspapers. We had secret locations where we held Editorial meetings. We only told our reporters to drop their handwritten stories at some designated places.

Our typesetting was done then in central Lagos at a friend’s computer centre. He carved a small space for us to operate. That was how we ran it until Babangida left and Ernest Shonekan’s Interim National government took over , giving us a respite.

Abacha came in a few months after and all the repression began all over again .

There were stories about how endangered pro-democracy activists sneaked out into exile through what is now known as the ‘NADECO Route’. Tell us about your journey into exile during that period .

In my own case I eventually had to leave Nigeria in December 1997. Before that, I first went into hibernation in my hometown in Ijebu-Ode for about a month and it was the Americans that now finally gave me a visa.

On a particular Sunday, some fellows from the DMI came to our office at Ijaiye Road in Ogba, Lagos. According to what I learnt later, they stood outside waiting for me. They did not see anybody like me. When they found out that workers had thinned out from the office, they went inside and picked one of the phones to call one of the numbers listed in one of our magazines. Someone picked the call at our secret printing press.

They asked the man: ‘We are looking for Mr Onanuga’ and the man said, “It’s 8pm, Mr Onanuga has gone home”. They asked how they could get me and that man replied that he did not know where I was staying.

We had warned all staff not to give out anybody’s address.

The caller then asked the receiver at the press: “Where are you speaking from?”. The man said he was speaking from where those people were, at 26 Ijaiye Road.

“But we are there and we can’t see you”, the caller said.

The receiver replied: “I am in that office”.
That was how they left Ijaiye office in anger.
The next place they went was Concord Press – Abiola Bookshop Press where the office of African Concord used to be. It was a Sunday evening and they met the gateman and asked again, about how they could reach me and they were told that I left Concord six years before then, that they didn’t know where I was staying.

So they left and they now went to Mr Dapo Olorunyomi’s house where they met his wife, Ladi.

She had been arrested several times. Anytime they were looking for Dapo and they could not get him they arrested his wife. They went to her and said: “This man is your husband’s colleague, we need his address”. And she said: “Yes, he is my husband’s colleague but I don’t know where he stays”.

They accused her of lying. She insisted she didn’t know my house, that anytime she wanted to see me, she met me at the office. So when Ladi did not reveal anything, they said they were going to arrest her. I suspected Ladi was not well dressed for the arrest, so she asked to be allowed to change before following them.

CLICK FOR MORE NEWS UPDATES HERE: www.sojworldnews.com

They agreed and Ladi went into her bedroom where she had a phone and called a friend of mine. She said: Look, there are some people here and they said they wanted to arrest me,” that the person should get in touch with me very quickly so I could disappear from my house.
That person called me. The person that was called was Abdul Oroh who raced to my house that night and told me what Ladi just said.

Ladi was taken away and she spent about four to five months with them. In my own case, after Abdul’s message, very early in the morning of Monday, I took a few things and disappeared into my home town.

Later, I got a message from someone very high up in government who told our intermediary I should disappear from Nigeria immediately. When that message was delivered and it was from a source that I could not just disregard, I decided to leave Nigeria.

The message was that they were not just coming to arrest me but that they actually wanted to kill me. If you go by what had happened before then, how they had killed Kudirat Abiola, Alfred Rewane and others, that was a grave warning indeed.

I left through the usual ‘NADECO route. Before I left Nigeria, I had to go and shave. I used to have some Afro hair on my head. I dressed like a farmer and bought some eye-glasses. I dressed more like an old school teacher and just carried a few things and headed towards Ghana.

The Americans were very helpful; they issued me a visa without having to appear at their embassy, they just asked me to send my passport and they issued the visa. I had to pass through the border to Republic of Benin, then Togo. I made sure that I didn’t stay or wait anywhere until I got to Accra, Ghana that night. Being in Accra, I was safe. Then I moved to America few days after. That was what happened at that time and it was so scary that when I got to America, I had nightmares for weeks about being pursued in Nigeria.

CLICK FOR MORE NEWS UPDATES HERE:   www.sojworldnews.com

Also, don’t forget by that time, many of my colleagues had been arrested. Ojudu was already in. He was arrested at the border; he was coming back to Nigeria. I think he went to attend a conference in Kenya and he was on his way home when he was picked up. Kunle Ajibade was already jailed for life. Dapo Olorunyomi was on exile. Seye Kehinde, for personal reasons, had floated City People. Jenkins Alumona, our editor was in detention. So many other people had been arrested at that time.

In a sordid way, those were very interesting times.
Yes. Very interesting. The result was that after most of us had disappeared, they now came in and shut down all our operations in one day but they were surprised that after shutting down everything and arresting thirteen of our staff; the following day PM News came out again and TEMPO, “The News” came out the following week. They didn’t know how it happened. It was an interesting time.

What I learnt from it all is that many of us were not afraid because there was nothing to be afraid of. My own thinking was that the soldiers like us bloody civilians, were also human beings. Even though they had the guns, we have the pen. We wanted to prove to them that our pen is mightier than the sword. We showed them that with the pen, we could really defeat them.

Did you ever meet General Babangida after he left office and what is your reading of his disposition afterwards?
After he left office, I met Babangida several times. I can tell you that from my reading of him and from what he said, he very much regretted the June 12 annulment.

One day, he told me that he believed that time is a healer and that over time, people will forgive him and so on. Well, I don’t know whether he has been proven right or wrong but the same time that he said is a healer has really been a healer if you note that twenty-five years after, another government decided to atone for what happened twenty-five years earlier. I believe that on June 12, 2018 wherever he was, Babangida would have felt ashamed of himself that while he was there, he did the wrong thing and it took another leader twenty-five years after, to correct what was obviously a grave error of judgment, a grave error of history.

PoliticsSOCIAL Media On Fire As Obasanjo Wears Tinubu's Branded Cap, Visits First Lady, by SojWORLDWIDE(op): 10:30am On Jun 18, 2024
SOCIAL Media was set on fire as former President Olusegun Obasanjo was seen in an event adorned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's branded Cap.

The scene became controversial considering the political differences between the former President and Tinubu in the pre-2023 Presidential election campaigns, the election and post election periods.

Obasanjo pitched his tent with the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, seeing him with Tinubu's branded Cap caused stirs in the Social Media.

What Reno Omokri said about Tinubu's branded Cap on Obasanjo,

"Thank you for your feedback. Let me help you zoom in on the logo on President Obasanjo's cap, so you can clearly see that Peter Obi was USED. Is that not Bola Tinubu's logo?

President Obasanjo does not like our candidate. But he is a strategist. He knew that if he came out openly against our candidate in the Peoples Democratic Party, it would win him sympathy votes. So, what did he do?

He supported Peter Obi, knowing he stood no chance. His only purpose was to divide the PDP's votes and ensure that the person he was against did not win.

Please note that he was not for Tinubu. He was just AGAINST our candidate. And he knows you guys. You are too proud even to accept that others are smart.

In fact, your own group pride is beyond ordinary pride. It is hubris. And it makes you the easiest people to deceive. Your lack of humility prevents you from seeing that you are being played.

You cannot control your emotions. Rather, your emotions control you. And we that control our emotions, know how to control you through your emotions.

All you guys know is brute aggression. No genuine strategy. You will see that your aggression is not working and what do you do?

You increase the tempo of what is obviously not working. No ability to stoop to conquer. Even the DGs of Obi's campaign...let me not talk.
Thanks again, John, and may God bless you."

Read What people say;

Reno Omokri on Obasanjo's surprise visit to First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu,

"First, it was the wearing of the Tinubu logo. A visit has now followed. But you can trust that they will still argue and refuse to accept that Peter Obi was used.

Pride mixed with stubbornness will prevent them from seeing and learning from the now obvious truth.

And their failure to learn from the past will make them repeat it in 2027.

President Obasanjo does not like our candidate (Atiku).
But he is a strategist.

He knew that if he came out openly against our candidate in the Peoples Democratic Party, it would win him sympathy votes during both the primaries and the general election. So, what did he do?

He supported Peter Obi, knowing Obi stood no chance. His only purpose was to divide the PDP's votes and ensure that the person he was against did not win.

Obi, because of hubris, did not consider that of your head is used to break coconut, you will obviously not eat it.

It is a military strategy called divide and conquer. If not for Peter Obi, Waziri Atiku Abubakar would have won the #NigerianElections2023"

CrimePOLICE Calls For Review Of Recruitment List Marred With Corruption, Non-applican by SojWORLDWIDE(op): 5:20pm On Jun 15, 2024
THE Nigeria Police Force has raised alarm over irregularities discovered in the just concluded Constable recruitment exercise conducted by the Police Service Commission, PSC.

In a Press Release signed by the Force Police Public Relations, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi available to SOJ WORLDWIDE, the Constable recruitment process was marred with irregularities and alleged corruption.

Adejobi went further that non-applicants were recruited instead of those who participated in the recruitment exercise.

"The Nigeria Police Force has raised alarm on the irregularities and alleged corruption of the recently released names of successful candidates in the ongoing 2022/23 Police Constables Recruitment Exercise.

This became necessary upon being inundated with a series of complaints and allegations of corruption raised by unsuspecting candidates and stakeholders on the irregularities that marred the exercise most especially the disappearance of the names of screened candidates who were successful to the last stage.

Upon careful scrutiny of the list released on the PSC portal, it was discovered that
i) Several names of persons purported to be names of successful candidates are those who did not even apply and therefore did not take part in the recruitment exercise.

ii) The published list contains several names of candidates who failed either the Computer Based Test (CBT) or the physical screening exercise or both.

iii) There are those who made it to the last stage of the exercise but were disqualified having been found Medically unfit through the standardised medical test but who also made the list of successful candidates as published by the PSC.

vi) Most worrisome is the allegation of financial dealings and corrupt practices leading to the outcome where unqualified and untrainable individuals have been shortlisted.

The Inspector General of Police had on 10th June 2024 written a letter of objection to the list addressed to the Chairman of the Commission, citing the discoveries listed above.

The reaction of the IGP was without prejudice to the power of the Commission to recruit for the police as ruled by the Supreme court but this power does not include the power to recruit unqualified and untrained individuals for the police. Noting that it is the police that bears the brunt of recruitment of unqualified individuals and not the PSC.

The same people who recruited anyhow for the police today will turn round to accuse the police tomorrow of inefficiency when their recruits start messing up.
The Police therefore has since dissociated itself from the published list and called for a review that will be transparent and credible.

It will be recalled that the leadership of the Police Service Commission, after the pronouncement of the Supreme Court ruling on the powers of the Commission to recruit for the Police, constituted a Joint Recruitment Board, to be headed by one of the Commissioners of the PSC, with the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Training and Development in the Police Force as its Secretary.

CLICK FOR MORE NEWS UPDATES HERE: www.sojworldnews.com

But surprisingly, the Board was crippled and never allowed to carry out its mandate, insomuch that even the final list was not consented to by the Board.

The Nigeria Police Force therefore takes exception to this unpleasant development and calls for a total review of the process with a view to recruiting qualified, competent, trainable and productive hands into the Nigeria Police Force, in line with the vision of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's led administration on police reform.

The NPF hereby reiterates that we are not unconcerned about the plights and ordeals of prospective recruits, who have been subjected to all forms of rigorous screening exercise, assuring that it is our commitment to ensure that the process is thoroughly reviewed, stands fruitful and successful for the betterment of the Nigeria Police, and by extension the country."

CrimeInside Life: I Was Very Hungry That I Had To Eat Our Dog’s Leftovers Food - Law by SojWORLDWIDE(op): 9:58am On Jun 14, 2024
A Lady, whose name was not known, who went through most harrowing experience in her adolescent years narrated the hardship she went through when her mother abandoned her when she was just seven months old.

She was living at the mercy of her stepmother who maltreated her to the extent of eating dog's leftovers, inserting pepper into her private part after intense beatings.

The lady who is now a qualified lawyer narrates her true life story,

"I was abandoned by my mother at the age of seven months (7months) with my father and stepmother. My stepmother was mean.

I endured all manner of maltreatments she meted at me. Sometimes I went hungry for days. She would so starve me that I would be seeing d€ath.

On one occasion, I was very hungry that I had to eat our dog’s leftovers food.

Our neighbor’s son caught me eating the dog’s leftover food (eba and egusi) and he told his mother who later that evening invited me to her house and asked me if what her son said was true.

I was so terrified that I begged her not to tell my step mother, because she will k!ll me if she knew that I ate the dog’s leftover instead of throwing it away.

The woman wept and promised to give me food everyday without my stepmother’s knowledge, a promise she kept till we left the compound.

As if starving me was not enough punishment, my Stepmother fl0gged me mercilessly until I would faint at times. She would also apply pepper in my vagina, eyes, armpit and neck, tie me up and abandon me in one of the toilets for days without food.

Despite all these experiences, I was very bright academically and was loved and favored by God and people.

I knew that the only way to escape was to achieve educational success, so I never joked with schooling. So you see, I have every right to be hateful, bitter, jealous, arrogant, sad, negative and toxic but I chose not to give up in life.

PoliticsJOSEF ONOH Fires Atiku Over Comments Made After Tinubu's Slipping On Democracy D by SojWORLDWIDE(op): 9:05pm On Jun 12, 2024
FORMER Spokesman of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Campaign Organizations in the Southeast, Dr. Josef Onoh has reacted to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar's comments after President Tinubu slipped at Abuja on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 parade ground while he was trying to enter Parade Van at the Eagle Square in Abuja.

Onoh who is the current Chairman of Forum of former members of Enugu State House of Assembly and National Coordinator of Asiwaju Renewed Mandate Southeast. (ARMSE) said in a message via his official X.com monitored by SOJ WORLDWIDE that it is not how many times one falls that matters but how one stands after a fall.

He went further that as a human, we can fall once in a while like other great men like the United States President, Joe Biden and other great men who had fallen several times.

He added that Tinubu fell but gained his stand immediately.

He took a swipe at the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Podium that collapsed during the 2019 general elections in Kebbi State.

"Not how we fall that counts, but how we stand. Like every human alive we all have tripped and had a fall once in a while, some humourous some fatal. World leaders are not immune too.
@officialABAT still standing strong.
We rather keep standing than collapse like the PDP", said @JosefOnoh.

Atiku had earlier posted a message via his official X.com monitored by SOJ WORLDWIDE that he sympathized with Tinubu over the incident.

"I sincerely sympathise with President Bola Tinubu, @officialABAT, over this unfortunate incident as he was set to review the parade on Democracy Day. I do hope that all is well with him." -AA

PoliticsSOUTHEAST Governors Have No Excuse Not To Pay The New Minimum Wage - JOSEF ONOH by SojWORLDWIDE(op): 5:19pm On Jun 12, 2024
THE Spokesman of President Bola Tinubu Campaign Organisation (South-East) during the 2023 Presidential Election, Dr. Josef Onoh has urged South-East civil servants to hold their governors accountable for failing to pay the proposed N62,000 minimum wage.

Onoh, who said he was mandated by the Presidency to speak to stakeholders in the South-East especially the media on some issues, disclosed this to newsmen in a Press Conference on Tuesday in Enugu.

He called on civil servants from the South-East to impress on their governors to pay the proposed N62,000 minimum wage as they have no excuse not to pay the wages considering multiple increase of monthly allocation from Federal Accounts Allocation Committee, FAAC.

It would be recalled that most states in the Federation, especially those within the South-East, are saying that they would only be able to pay an average of N40,000 as minimum wage.

CLICK FOR MORE NEWS UPDATES HERE: www.sojworldnews.com

According to Onoh, the various State Governments have been empowered as well as devised more Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) means to pay and they should not push it to the Federal Government.

He said,

“As it stands, the Federal Government is only worried about the private sector, not just that they can pay the proposed N62,000 minimum wage but how they can sustain the payment. However, the Federal Government is considering this.

“But for the states, they have all the capacity and capability to pay and not default.

“In recent months; the states’ monthly Federal allocation had increased three fold and with huge money coming to the state monthly.

“While, you will agree with me that most states have increased their IGR geometrically by engaging in massive taxations and levies.

“They should pay and not push the blame or their inadequacies to the Federal Government.”

Onoh, a former lawmaker in Enugu State House of Assembly, noted that in particular the South-East “has the capacity to pay and the governors should not deny that”.

He appealed to the Governors of the South-East to rally round and come out with ways to pay the proposed wage as well as set a uniform standard payment within the zone.

“These back and forth being put up by the Governors, especially those of the South-East, will never benefit the zone and entire country,” he said.

The Spokesman commended the organized labour for not embarking on another round of strike, adding that

“strike is a huge loss to everyone; both individuals, companies, corporate organizations and government”.

Onoh, who was a former Chairman of Enugu State Capital Territory Development Authority, noted that the South-East Governors and leaders had been lagging behind in tapping in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

He specifically said that the zone had not tapped optimally from the transport and agriculture policies and programmes of Tinubu administration as it should.

He said,

“Today, the policy of having low interest loans for entrepreneur in the transport business, which the South-East is known for, is there.

“The Federal Government has already ordered 300 CNG buses, which will help to crash the price of transport fare and improve business in that sector.

“The transport companies/entrepreneurs and the South-East Governors have not come to take advantage of this Federal Government-Assisted Transport Scheme as there is a well laid down plan to grow the transport sector.

“Currently there are lots of agricultural programmes ongoing through the support of the Federal Government. Where are our people and their leaders?”

Politics28 YEARS AFTER: HOW Kudirat Abiola Was Shot Dead, Prince Oyinlola's Angle, How by SojWORLDWIDE(op): 9:35pm On Jun 04, 2024
Tribute to the heroine of democracy, Mrs Kudirat Abiola died for democracy they are bastardizing today. She was born in Zaria in 195.  She was shot dead on June 4, 1996.
The bullet penetrated her forehead 28 years ago, along Oregun , Ikeja, Lagos.

Most of the people enjoying the dividends of democracy at the corridors of power today were backing General Sani Abacha to kill and maim innocent Nigerians.

If Madam Kudirat knew some ingrates will take control of democracy she would not have gone further in the struggles to reclaim her husband's mandate to the extent that she would have to die in the struggles.

The news came like wildfire, that the wife of the acclaimed winner of June 12, 1993, presidential elections, Chief MKO Abiola, Mrs Kudirat Abiola was shot dead at Oregun, Ikeja in Lagos on her way to the Canadian Embassy.

It started as a rumour because who could have imagined that someone could have been so cruel to assassinate such a woman activist in daylight? But alas! It was not a rumour, it was real, Mrs Kudirat Abiola was shot in the head by trigger happy killing squad of Sani Abacha "on the order from above."

The trial of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Ishaya Bamaiyi (rtd), at an Ikeja High Court, Lagos, with the former driver to Alhaji Mohammed Abacha, son of late General Sani Abacha, gave graphic details of how he and other members of late Abacha's Strike Force killed late Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, wife of late Chief M.K.O. Abiola on June 4, 1996 in Lagos.

Mohammed Abdul (a.k.a Katako), who was giving evidence as prosecution witness, also told the court how members of the killer squad failed in their attempt to assassinate the publisher of The Guardian Newspaper, Mr Alex Ibru, and Afenifere leader, Senator Abraham Adesanya.

The two men alongside Kudirat were considered enemies of the state during Abacha's regime.

The murder of Mrs. Kudirat Abiola sparked nationwide outrage. Following the incarceration of her husband for demanding his mandate as the winner of the 1993 election, which was annulled by Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, Kudirat had led the fight for Abiola's release and the restoration of his mandate.

She had also joined forces with other pro-democracy activists to stoke the anti-military fire and to give the pro-democracy struggle a strong push.

The Lagos State Government took up the case, charging Abacha Chief Security Officer, Maj. Hamza Al-Mustapha; Lateef Shofolahan; a son of Abacha, Mohammed; and former Head of Mobile Police Force Unit, Aso Rock, Rabo Lawal, with conspiracy and murder in the assassination of Kudirat.
The State Ministry of Justice arraigned the accused before a Magistrate Court in Lagos in December 1999 before taking the case to a Lagos High Court the following year.

The star prosecution witness, Sergeant Barnabas Jabila (aka Rogers), in his oral testimonies before the Justice Ade Alabi-led High Court, and later before the panel on Human Rights Abuses headed by Justice Chukwudifu Oputa, gave a vivid account and description of how he collected two Uzi guns from Al-Mustapha, on whose orders he said he assassinated Mrs Abiola.

Jabila, a member of Abacha Strike Force, also told the court that Shofolahan had given information on the movements of Kudirat and that Abacha's son, Mohammed, had lent his Mercedes Benz car and allowed his driver, Mr Mohammed Abdul (aka Katako), to drive the killer gang to the scene of the crime.

Despite their presence at the Oputa Panel proceedings, the indicted individuals could not challenge the witness.
Mohammed, on July 2002, was discharged and acquitted by a 4-1 judgment, much to the chagrin of the late Kudira devotees. Lawal's acquittal followed in July 2011.

In August 2011, as the trial began to wind down, Shofolahan stunned many onlookers when he retracted the statement he gave after his arrest, which said he had worked for Kudirat. Like Al-Mustapha, he said the statement was made under duress and intense torture.

Despite the denial, judgment was delivered on January 30, 2012, 13 years after the trial started, which found Al-Mustapha and Shofolahan guilty. The two men were thereby sentenced to death by hanging.

Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola recalled the incidents that surrounded the killing of Kudirat Abiola, wife of late business mogul, MKO Abiola.

Oyinlola was in charge of Lagos State as a Military Governor when the incident happened.
The former Osun State Governor, in a chat with newsmen, said the murder was an unfortunate incident he had to grapple with.
His words:

"I was opening the reconstructed Sura Market on Lagos Island that was on June 4, 1996, when I got a call from the current Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu when he was a Commissioner of Police somewhere in the country then.

He called me and said, your Excellency, have you heard that Kudirat Abiola has been shot?  I quickly rounded off the market event and headed for Ikeja. I called Ogundimu, the Commissioner for Health and he confirmed it.

He said he was there at the hospital battling to see if they could save her life. It was Ogundimu who later gave me the news of her death. Then mischief makers took over.

The next thing they said was that she was coming from my office in Ikeja and that after she left, I sent assassins after her. But I thank God, when eventually the person who shot her, Sergeant Rogers, was arrested and in the course of the trial, he told the story of how he did it, Oyinlola's name did not feature once.

Providence also made President Olusegun Obasanjo to institute the Oputa Panel and at the panel, nobody mentioned my name. You can imagine that kind of thing. I, who had never slapped my wife, so how would I have instigated people to take guns and pursue a woman?
Those were the kinds of intrigues I faced in Lagos. It was something else.

On how he handled security challenges at the time, Oyinlola recalled that criminals took advantage of the socio-political turbulence that came with the agitation against June 12 election annulment.

Security of lives and property became a serious problem. My administration came up with the idea of floating an effective, well-knitted, mobile security outfit code-named Operation Sweep. That was in 1995. Operation Sweep was a joint task force of all the Armed Forces and the police.

It was an entirely new crime-fighting idea. The operatives were out on patrol 24 hours. I was also out on patrol every night. With that, criminals were effectively swept out of Lagos as it became a danger zone for them to operate.

Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, Professor Wole Soyinka fled Nigeria to United Kingdom to escape being killed by the Abacha killer-squad to form 'Radio Democracy' which was later changed to 'Radio Kudirat'. The radio operated for one hour in the evening between 8-9pm to reveal every evil plan of the Abacha Regime.

Those whom this writer can vividly remember among those who constituted the team are; Dr Kayode Fayemi, Senator Adeyeye, Professor Wole Soyinka, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and hosts of other Human Right Activists.

These are the people who fought Abacha regime to a standstill, although there were lots of casualties on the side of activists and National Democratic Coalition, NADECO.

Few of those whose lives were terminated are; a reporter with Tempo and TheNews Magazines, Baguada Kaltho, Chima Ubani, Mrs Kudirat Abiola, Chief Alfred Rewane, Chief MKO Abiola the symbol of June 12, 1993 and hundreds of protesters whose lives were terminated on the streets of Lagos, Ibadan and other major cities across the country.

When Nigeria returned to democracy on October 1, 1999, only Asiwaju Bola Tinubu among those who fought for democracy benefitted from it, other activists led by Chief Gani Fawehinmi backed out because they could not trust the then, General Abdulsalam's sincerity in handing over to a democratically elected civilian.
The rest is story today of people who were Abacha's beneficiaries and supporters of military regimes who took over the centre stages of our democracy they have never suffered for.

PoliticsANGRY Nigerians Lambast Organized Labour For Suspending Nationwide Strike by SojWORLDWIDE(op): 6:50pm On Jun 04, 2024
ANGRY Nigerians took to their official social media (X.com) to lambast the organized labour for suspending the nationwide strike embarked upon on Monday, June 3, 2024.

Barely 48 hours, the strike was suspended for a week as announced by the Nigeria Labour Congress,  NLC monitored by SOJ WORLDWIDE Correspondent on their official X.com Page.

"@NLCHeadquarters
Strike Action relaxed for one week to allow the conclusion of Negotiation...... Details shortly." - NLC said.

Reactions of angry Nigerians:

"@TheoAbuAgada
I hate you all. Restore my light now. Werey."

"@kasalimi2029
Most people are batching NLC and TUC.
Some of you don’t know what it means to be a union leader in Nigeria.
Those in authority will box you to a corner. You are not safe, your families and friends need to watch their backs.
Why did Nigerians fold their hands even when NLC and TUC were fighting.
The so called workers they are fighting for went home to sleep. That is not how things are done.
If NLC is at the forefront, the NIGERIAN workers that want living wage should follow.
That is how to win a battle with people with democratic look but autocratic mindset.
I don’t blame NIGERIA LABOUR CONGRESS Nigerian workers are docile."

"@osquare78
So you guys think you can use the workers ' Kalukalu machine?
Turn on and turn off turn on turn off?
Strike that you started already, rather than continue until your goal is met, you guys said you’re giving one week to allow the conclusion of negotiations.
So what happens after one week & no agreement is reached, You call another strike??
Then you would have lost relevance."

"@Oladapomikky1
So you guys settled for 60k minimum wage, you guys couldn’t even get at least 100k after all the gra gra."
"Can you guys at least bring the light now, my ogbono will soon spoil."

"@Blacksodje
If you want to fight a war, you never go to the battle ground and have a change of heart or say you want to negotiate further.
You won't have this much backing anytime soon.
That's why no one ever believes your leaders anymore. How we miss the real LABOUR LEADERS back then"

"@AgboObinnaya
This is not how things are done. If you want the government to take this whole thing seriously, you should keep the strike ongoing until the whole issue is rectified especially now that you have the support of the masses.
When you relax the strike action, the government will relax and you will come up with another strike. How do you think the people will feel?"

Bring light back. That is the only issue I have with your strike."

PoliticsMay 30 Bloody Violence: Josef Onoh Suggests Referendum For Biafra Agitators, Con by SojWORLDWIDE(op): 8:59pm On May 31, 2024
Following deaths and other forms of bloody violence recorded on Thursday's 'Biafra Day' commemoration at the Obikabia Junction in Ogbor Hill, Abia State.

The former campaign Spokesman of President Tinubu in the zone, Dr. Josef Onoh has suggested that the agitating States should be allowed the South East States to referendum to know if separation from Nigeria is majority opinion of the people in the South East Nigeria after which any state that opts out of our country Nigeria will cut all ties with us and any act of terrorism on their part will be declared as a state of war and our Armed Forces can fully engage them from the point of war.

Onoh however said that he commiserates  with the Nigerian Armed Forces who lost their men in the unfortunate incident and also condole with the families of other Nigerians who lost their loved ones in the "cowardice act."

Our soldiers were not trained to be killed by those they were trained to protect.

According to Onoh,

"The South East east Governors should come together and engage these Agitators jointly than separately which has been the major loopholes these criminals have leveraged on to constantly unleash mayhem in the region.

I am disappointed that all the elites and billionaires including politicians are dancing 'Owambe' in other safe regions of the country while remaining silent as their region is on fire and besieged by criminals.

They would rather spend their wealth on Police protection in which some of them have more Policemen attached to them than the President himself.

If the President declares State of Emergency in the South East to contain the situation they will condemn him and bring in tribal and political sentiments.

Today in the South East, both economic and infrastructural development has declined drastically, they work from Tuesday to Thursday, Fridays is now for burials, Saturdays for weddings and traditional marriages, Sundays for thanksgivings and child dedication and the Almighty Monday is now for resting and house chores.

What a shame in once a peaceful and vibrant region!

Clearly, Eastern Security Network  (ESN), Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) and their collaborators are not to blame rather it is the attitude of 99% of people resident in the South East and their selfish exploitation of the sit at home to their own comfort that has fuelled the situation.  Nnamdi Kanu and Simon Ekpa not to be blamed for the upheavals in the South East but the Igbos who gives tacit support and are indifference to the crisis.

For how long should we continue to kill ourselves under the guise of fighting for freedom?   It is unfortunate that most of the soldiers killed in yesterday's bloody mayhem are from Igbo extraction.

How many Yorubas did Sunday Igboho killed in his agitation for Oduduwa Republic?  It is time all Igbos put on their 'thinking cap' and take full responsibility for what is happening in their land.

They even circulate propaganda videos on social media 24hrs before each sit at home just to promote fear and ensure they don't go to work, open the markets. I say shame on them!

The residents even frustrate the efforts of their respective Governors hence defeating the very purpose these Governors have attempted to individually contain.

Finally, our brave men and women of the Armed Forces have sacrificed a lot to be killed for nothing, the inaction of the Police hirarchy during the ENDSARS protests that saw criminals killing and beheading Police Officers have risen to the mayhem we face today and the boldness of burning Police stations.

We only have only one country, I can comfortably call on our patriots in the region that our brave soldiers must not die in vain, ensure their families find succour in a matter of days.

THE Elemo-Aga and Oluomo of Ikirunland, High Chief Bamidele Marouf Onifade welcomed the Osun State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Tajudeen Lawal Sooko and other party Executives to his palatial residence at Ikirun on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.

It was at the occasion of  declaration of intent of Oluomo Onifade to join the APC from the PDP along with his followers who said they had no option than to go wherever Elemo-Aga goes.

Many of the PDP Chieftains including Oladosun Kamorudeen popularly known as 'Ultimate', Wasiu Oluaye and hundreds of their loyalists also declared their total support for the APC because of Oluomo Onifade.

Onifade declared his intent to join the APC has nothing to do with any political ambition or contesting for any elective position but to see to the welfare of people at his immediate constituency at Ifelodun Local Government Area comprising of 13 Wards.

"I have been inspired by the positive leadership demonstrated by our President, His excellency Asiwaju Bola Hamed Tinubu, The President of the Republic of Nigeria.

And the direction in which our country is headed under his guidance. I firmly believe that by aligning myself with the All progressive Congress, I can contribute to the continued progress and prosperity of our nation.

I am committed to upholding the values and principles of the party and working tirelessly to support its agenda for the betterment of our society. I look forward to actively participating in the party's activities and contributing to its success in any way I can.

A Chieftain of the PDP testified to the fact that Onifade always took care of them when the party whom they worked tirelessly for abandoned them.

Onifade said he decided to join the APC having done his secret findings about the policies and positive direction of the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. According to him, he discovered that the President meant well for the prosperity of Nigeria hence many of his courageous plans and strategies to put things in place for the generality of the populace.

The August visitor, the APC Chairman, Alhaji Sooko said the entrance of Chief Onifade into his party on Wednesday was his heart's desire and answer to his silent prayers that God should support him with good people. Now God has answered him with one-in-a-million man like Onifade and thousands of his followers.

Sooko said he particularly thanked  God that the Elemo-Aga did not join the party when it was in power, he said, people would thought that he joined because he was in need of political appointment but "he chose the best time by coming at this time when the party is in the opposition.  It is evident that he did not join our party for any political gain but for the well-being of his people."

Sooko appeal to all members in Ifelodun Local Government Area to join ranks and make sure that the 2026 governorship election will be a landslide victory for the party.

He said despite the large turnout today, a day will be set aside for the official declaration of Chief Onifade and other members of the PDP to declare for the APC.
