Seems it'll be difficult to travel with the family at the initial instance?

Your write-ups are concise and detailed I must add. Thanks.
Thank you. It was difficult. I didn't have a #4M saved anywhere and wasn't going to borrow.

Good day,I'll be coming to the Uk hopefully after this lockdown. Please I want to know what u mean about getting a referee before renting a place and how do you get one.
It is in two parts but the purpose of referencing or getting referees is to make sure you are who you say you are, and to make sure you are able to meet up with the financial obligation- Rent.
1st part, If after checking your credit rating/level, it was dicovered that your salary is within the range specified by the landlord/agents, then you might just need your employer as the referee.
2nd part, if your salary falls below the range specified, then you need a guarantor that his/her salary is within the specified range, you can use two guarantors. e.g For a flat of £1000 and above, the agent might say, you need to earn above £32000/year to be able to let. If you don't earn up to that you will need guarantor(s).

Solid enjoyment at your family's
I quite like the way you save money

Reading your housemates experience makes me see staying with housemates a burden. How's it generally?
Thank you. It is not a general blanket experience, some housemates are quite nice. Even the housemate in question later adjusted knowing he can not run roughshod on anyone. My rule is be open minded, Give people enough latitude but protect yourself, Do not react to everything or the first time you are offended unless it put your safety at risk. Do not look for other's affirmation so you will be able to stay within my own principle. If you are alone and you want to save money, the best bet is to share a house or get a studio apartment.

January kept rolling by, my focus for the year was to save enough to be able to bring my family over. I was working bank shifts and agency shift every where but i made sure i did not exceed the 22 hours per week. In me estimate i would need about £5000 for visa application for three members of family ( IHS £400/year for 3 years £1200, Visa £400). I had to rent another house, a two bedroom apartment about £1100/cm, furnishing, about £2000. one way flight about £2000. All, i was saving up to have £10,000. I was not sending money to my wife, she was self sustaining, while i focused on getting everyone over. She was scheduled to write the UKVI ielts in March 2019, then three of them would go for the mandatory tb testing at IOM in April/May.
New housemates have joined me in the house, I started to get to know the other housemates, there were 1 croatian and two indians. The Croatian was in the Single room while the indians get the two double rooms. One of the indians used my blender to blend something hard and harsh, immediately i entered the kitchen i knew someone used the blender even without putting it on. i am a kind of person that is very detailed, so if any of my objects move an inch, i would know immediately. When i opened the pack, the plastic cistern was marked everywhere. i was so angry that i just picked my phone, took pictures and sent to the WhatsApp group. The person concerned responded pleading, saying he thought the objects in the kitchen were all common, i told him the only common objects were the fridge, microwave oven and the cooker. He was so sorry that i felt so stupid having sent that WhatsApp message with anger.
I had some altercations with the Croatian, i like cooking with fish and locust bean. So each time that i cook, the smell will be everywhere so i will just open the front door and the kitchen's window because there was no exhaust hood on the cooker. I will then spray air freshner and i bought reed diffuser and placed very near the stair case. After i have done all this he would come late in the night and open the main door and climbed back upstairs, the main door is just straight away from my room so all the draught will be coming to me, each time he opens the door i will close it. on a particular day he opened it, i just went to his door and asked him to come and close the door that he opened. He started complaining that he opened it so that the fish smell can diffuse out. I told him of all the measures that i have put in place, if that was not enough for him, he should buy air freshner and open his windows not the main door. I told him he can only open the door, if he is in the kitchen, not leaving the door ajar and unmanned. He was mumbling in his language but he never left the door ajar after that.
Towards the end of January my friend called me that he needed a particular textbook, Royal Marsden manual of clinical procedure, someone had donated that textbook earlier to the nursing department in his hospital but the textbook grew legs and walked out, became untraceable thereafter. He was the head of the unit, the person that donated the book wanted to check something in the book, that was how it was discovered that the book was nowhere to be found. The buck stopped on his table, he told me about it, i said, i will get the book on Amazon and it will be delivered to him in days. As we were talking on the phone i logged into amazon, placed the order to be delivered to him, i snapped the order and sent to him on WhatsApp, he was surprised and happy. I was tracking the order online, it should take about 10 days but after 14 days there was no show, it showed the book entered Nigeria. I called Amazon, the staff said i should wait another few days. After 18days i called again, The Amazon tried to track but the order was untraceable the moment it entered Nigeria. Nigeria happened to me though i was not in the country. Amazon staff tried to call their delivery contacts but they too could see that the book entered Nigeria but disappeared after that. How could that happen, no one knows. I was furious, delivery should be secure. Anyways, Amazon refunded my money.
I placed the order again but to be delivered to me, i would send it by myself, once beaten twice shy as they say. The order arrived in my house 3 days later. So i went to at Ryman stationery on the high street. i was told to pay £68 to send a £39 book. it did not make sense to me. The next day i went to the Post Office, i will be sending the book through Royal mail, registered mail with signature on delivery. I paid £26, which is still reasonable. I registered the package and it was secured with all necessary trackers. I got the tracking number. I sent the tracking number to my friend. We started tracking it, It left Redhill to Gatwick, from Gatwick to Heathrow, Heathrow to one airport in Germany then to MMA and that was it. tracking went blank after MMIA, what is this.it was a registered mail. I called Royal mail, they could not track it beyond MMIA. I was given the conatct of NIPOST, i called NIPOST, the lady confirmed the book entered Nigeria, I was told to wait for a mandatory 18 working days. If it was not delivered after that, my money would be refunded. I waited patiently for it. It was still not delivered. Refund forms were sent to me by Royal mail, i printed the order number and price from Amazon and attached with the mail registration invoice, After two weeks, a cheque was sent to me paying me back for the book and postage. I was ashamed of my fatherland.
I placed order for same book, the third time. to be delivered to me. It was delivered the second day, this time, i went to dhl. i paid £69, very expensive but the book was delivered in 6 working days. I could have saved myself all those stress if i have used dhl right from onset. I have learnt that lesson, if i want to send anything to Nigeria, it has to be the private courier companies or nothing.
February was uneventful, except that i went to Portsmouth, down south. I have a childhood friend living in the town, Her husband said they should visit me but she said no, that i have to come first before they will come to visit me. So i book my train ticket from Rehill station to Fratton park, Portsmouth. The husband was so happy to see me, the last time we saw each other was in 2008 when i visited them in Ibadan, though i saw the wife in 2009 when she visited me in Lagos before they came over to UK. The husband picked me up at the station, there were different array of food waiting for me at home. I devoured the moin moin and ogi as the first course and we settled to catch up with our lives stories in between making phone calls to old friends. Amala, ogbonno glorified with shaki, ponmo, panla and snail was served as the main course and boy i lost mysef in the delicacy, No shame. It was soon time to go as i had a day ticket, she packed food for me, Ogi, fried fish, fried chicken, Jellof rice. May heaven's blessing always found her.

Good write up. I remember my stay in UK between 2009 to 2010 when I went to do my masters courtesy of PTDF scholarship.

I started in September 2009 and by 2010, I had submitted my thesis.

I got a job in St. Andrews Community hospital, Scotland as an office assistant.

The matron asked me to be assisting the nurses in some of the duties with an increased pay.

Mind you, I wasn't trained as a nurse. My masters was on finance.

But I enjoyed my work so much and my scottish colleagues liked me without any bias. No racism at all, and they were very free with me as I worked so hard to win their trust and respect.

The lady nurses were so fond of me that they were always seeking for my attention and companionship.

The Matron noticed it and smiled why we were having a private informal discussion and said jokingly that I was now a darling of the nurses. She said, " please make your choice quickly among the nurses so that others will know where they stand".

I was just laughing and she said she meant her statement.

There is no such segregation in the health care sector over there in the North.
Thanks for sharing this with us, many people believe there is segregations in the north because of lack of diversity like the south, but it is mostly hear-say. I have confirmed this.

Started from the first page and I must commend you for being a good writer. I presently work in a psychiatric hospital as a counseling psychologist and intend moving to the UK come September to do my Masters in Developmental and therapeutic play (to be a Play therapist, working with children) and stay back to work after graduation next year as it is also under shortage occupation list. Your journaling is inspiring.
Thank you for the good comment. I never knew i could write and people would commend it. Hope you will start to write yours soon, we need to improve the body of knowledge on Nairaland in our little ways. I wish you well in your plan, just focus on it and it will materialise.
