Nigeria arrests Boko Haram spokesman Abul Qaqa

Police in Nigeria say they have arrested the spokesman of the Boko Haram militant group which has carried out scores of attacks recently.

A police official said the man, known by his nom de guerre Abul Qaqa, was arrested in the north-eastern city of Maiduguri, in Borno state.

The official told the Associated Press news agency the militant was captured after police tracked his mobile phone.

More than 150 people were killed by Boko Haram militants last month.

A series of co-ordinated explosions ripped apart police buildings, passport offices and immigration centres around the northern city of Kano.

It was one of the bloodiest attacks by the group so far.

Boko Haram has said it wants to overthrow the national government and install an Islamic state.

Its members have frequently attacked police stations and other symbols of state power, but the group has also bombed churches and killed hundreds of people - including many Muslim and Christian civilians.

Officials are trying to confirm the identity of the man arrested on Wednesday.

"We are still taking to him. Since 'Abu Qaqa' is a pseudonym for the Boko Haram spokesman, we want to be sure of who we have with us," an unnamed official told Reuters news agency.

Abul Qaqa has often spoken to journalists in the wake of militant attacks.

PoliticsLASTMA lacked the power to impose fine on traffic offenders in Lagos by solajacobs(op): 4:29pm On Nov 29, 2011
A Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday refused to stay the execution of its earlier judgment in which it declared that  the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority lacked the power to impose fines on traffic offenders.

Justice Okon Abang, in a ruling, also encouraged members of the public to approach the court for the enforcement of the judgement if they were harrassed by the operatives of the agency for the purpose  of collecting fines.

Abang  had earlier in a judgement declared some provisions  of the Establishment Act of LASTMA as unconstitutional, null and void.

He declared that LASTMA lacked the power to impose fine on traffic offenders in Lagos, saying that such act amounted to the agency serving as the judge in its case.

The provisions of the LASTMA Act which the judge declared as inconsistent with Nigeria’s constitution were contained in Sections 9, 11, 12 and 13 of the Act.

The judge said those sections of the Act were contrary to Section 36 of the Constitution which guaranteed the right of fair hearing to Nigerians.

He also awarded the sum of N500,000 against LASTMA.

Following the judgement, the respondent, dissatisfied, had filed an appeal against the judgement, and asked the lower court to stay execution of the judgment while its appeal was pending.

But Abang, in his ruling, dismissed the appeal, saying it lacked merit.

He told the court that he was driving his car on the Third Mainland Bridge, in March 2010, when the vehicle suddenly developed some mechanical fault.

He said further that he immediately  called for a towing van to take the vehicle of the road to where it would not obstruct traffic flow.

Funny enough, most of those spitting fire in such discussions are actually single ladies grin

the fact that they have 'single' in their profile does not mean they have remained single since they joined this forum. I guess you will understand the importance of this topic when you get married.

Owu gal:
you guys are lucky ohh, when the couple is okay with it kehuhhuh

my husbands uncle tried to stay with us on our wedding night. thank god we had a hotel room reserved. he stayed but we left the house.

when we came back from honeymoon which lasted 2 days anyway, a series of his family were now in and out. aunty for 2 months, cousins etc. because now he has a wife to cook, unlike before when he was a bachelor and we were in the states then.

and now that we live in africa, they visit me around 5am in the morning. until i stared working then they just showed up anytime after 10pm sometimes after midnight, telling me, mama, we are hungry ohh. and they stay for ever.

its moments like this that i wish i married a different man.
this your case is serious o.
