Health / Signs Of Low Self Esteem That Most People Overlook by Solomonudofia(m): 12:09pm On Aug 26, 2018
You might think you’re actually a confident person, but the thing about low self-esteem is that it can show up in so many ways, you might not even realize it’s there.

Things like your body language, the way you make decisions, and the people you choose to spend time with can speak volumes about how you really feel about yourself.

It’s also important to realize that low self-esteem isn’t simply your personality—nobody is born feeling insecure about themselves. It’s a problem, and there are real solutions to it. And it’s important you address it, because it can have negative effects on your own health, your career, your relationships, and your general day to day happiness, too.

Here are some signs of low self-esteem that most people overlook:

Saying sorry all the time.

Are you that person who apologizes for things, even when you’ve got nothing to apologize for? Maybe when someone bumps into you on the street, for example.

This might be because deep down, you genuinely believe that anything that goes wrong is somehow your fault, or you simply existing is getting in the way of other people living their lives. This has close connections to a poor sense of self-worth.

Next time you notice yourself apologizing, remind yourself that you haven’t done anything wrong, and remember to make a conscious effort next time to act differently.

You can’t take a compliment.

Some of us can’t help but ruin the gift of someone else paying us a genuine compliment, by laughing it off, or disagreeing with them instantly, or pointing out one of our flaws to balance it out.

Why do we do this? You can thank low self-esteem for that again.

Practice just saying a simple “thank you,” and owning that you really are an awesome human being—and that your awesomeness deserves to be celebrate

You struggle making small decisions.

This is one of the less obvious signs. Do you find you can never agree on what to have for dinner, and you always push it back onto the other person you’re with? Or do you find that even when you make a decision, you end up changing your mind?

People with low self-esteem are known for having trouble making simple decisions, especially when it involves other people, because they don’t want to upset anyone.

But here’s the deal—it’s really not the end of the world if your partner tells you, “No, I don’t want lasagna tonight,” is it?

Make decisions that feel good to you, and worry less about people’s response to them.

You attribute all your success to luck.

Are you the kind of person who puts all your success or achievements down to being in the right place at the right time? Do you struggle to believe it when good things happen to you?

If the answer is yes, it’s probably because you don’t believe you’re truly worthy of these things. But the reality is, you probably worked really hard for the things you have, and the kind of person you’ve become. Spend a little more time thinking about that.

You leave straight after sex.

If you struggle to sleep over after sex, and find you want to go home straight away, it might be because deep down you don’t think that person will want to continue to spend time with you after having sex.

This is unworthiness rearing its ugly head once again. If you’re genuinely worried you’re going to outstay your welcome, have that conversation before you go over, and ask your date if they mind having someone sleepover.

If they don’t, then stay, and see what happens. It might be even better than the sex.

You hang out with people you hate.

If you find yourself inviting people to hang out who you can’t stand, it’s probably because you’re deeply concerned about other people’s opinions, and you also love to keep the peace.

It’s far easier for you to ignore what you don’t like about someone instead of confronting them or removing them from your life. But this is only going to frustrate you, and stop you from having difficult conversations in later life.

Stop assuming that you’ll end up alone with no friends if you don’t invite that person you don’t get along with. Don’t invite them, and see what happens.

You use your phone as a crutch.

Have you ever been at a party then been left alone, or you’re in a group and the conversation drops, and you find yourself instinctively turning to your phone? This might be boredom, or awkwardness, or being afraid of starting a conversation because you don’t believe other people will want to hear what you have to say. These are all signs of low self-esteem.

How about next time you find someone else on their own, and go and chat to them? Or look out for someone you know, and go join them, instead of isolating yourself.

All of these signs are subtle and many are things that lots of people do, even those who don’t struggle with low self-esteem. But if you notice you’re checking of a few too many of these boxes, think about how you approach situations and how you think of yourself. It may be time for you to re-evaluate your relationship with yourself and what it really means to you.

Ladies please don't slay this time...
Romance / How To Overcome Jealousy In Relationships by Solomonudofia(m): 1:19pm On Aug 19, 2018
There’s a lot of conversation around whether or not there’s a difference between jealousy and envy. Some experts believe jealousy is the fear of losing something you have, whereas envy is the desire to have something that someone else has. When you are with someone, jealousy and envy are both present at various times throughout the length of the relationship. Envy is that feeling when you see another couple and wish you had what they had. Jealousy is that overwhelming feeling that arises from time to time, setting off your worry alarms, causing you to wonder if you’ll lose what you already have.

It’s frustrating to feel jealous in a relationship. No one wants to feel as if they’re going to lose their partner, especially because of an outside source. Jealousy can arise when your partner starts a new job and begins to know people that you don’t know. The fear of him or her meeting someone who will tickle their fancy more than you do sums up what being jealous is all about. It happens. We all experience it. But there are ways to overcome those feelings.

1. Recognition.
The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. And even if your jealousy isn’t as harsh as addiction, it’s important to acknowledge your feelings. Recognizing that you’re experiencing a jealous feeling or feelings is the first step to overcoming it. Once you’re honest with yourself, you’ll be more able to have a conversation with your partner about what is going on in your head.

2. Talk about it.

Discussing your feelings with your partner is one of the best ways to tackle the problem head-on. No one wants to admit they’re jealous, and even after you’ve admitted it to yourself, that next step is just as hard. (Or potentially harder.) Speaking the words “I am jealous” aloud to your partner isn’t high on anyone’s list of favorite things to do, but it is significant. Once you discuss the situation and acknowledge your feelings, you’ll be that much closer to getting to the root of the issue. And you shouldn’t have to do that on your own.

3. Listen to your partner.

If you’ve let your jealousy fester, or even if you haven’t, listening to your partner is a really important step in the process of overcoming jealousy. If you’re angry, let yourself take deep breaths and only have this conversation when you’re ready. If you approach the subject with hostility and resentment, you’re more likely to put your partner on the defensive, which creates a bigger obstacle for solving the jealousy issue. Once your partner tells his or her side of the story, you can allow yourself to reflect. But only after you have listened to them speak.

4. Avoid retribution.

It’s a part of human nature to want to make someone jealous if they have done the same to us. If your partner, regardless of if you are casually dating or in a committed relationship, has made you jealous, giving them a taste of their own medicine is not a functional way to deal with the issue. It may be tempting to want to hurt your partner, or make them feel how you currently feel, but what good does that do? If you want to overcome the issue of jealousy within your relationship, payback is not the answer.

5. Try not to dwell.

In the era of social media, it’s extremely easy to dissect, deep dive, and investigate for hours on end. Are you jealous of your partner’s relationship with his colleague? The worst thing you can do for yourself is to look that person up and dive deep into their history. It’s tempting, maybe the most tempting thing, but try to avoid looking for something that will upset you further.

6. Avoid comparisons.

And if you do end up meeting the person you’re jealous of, or finding them online while scrolling through pages of Instagram pictures, try to avoid comparing yourself to them. Nothing good comes out of trying to decipher if maybe your boyfriend prefers blondes to redheads, or discovering that this person has a Master’s degree and you only ever earned a Bachelor’s. You know what they say, “comparison is the thief of joy.”

7. Give yourself grace.

Even after reading this, you may still find yourself jealous over others’ lives. You may still find yourself questioning your partner’s intentions, and wondering if he or she is falling for someone else. It’s okay to let these thoughts cross your mind, as long as you attempt to overcome them. Thoughts can be fleeting. Speak your mind, work on your self-control, and ultimately, give yourself grace when it comes to figuring out your next step. If you’re jealous because your partner is disrespectful and dismissive and openly flirtatious with other people, allow yourself to be upset, get angry, have the conversation, and then give yourself grace to figure out what your next step is. You deserve it.

Jealousy is tough. It’s a natural, common feeling that no one wants to face. As you begin to feel jealous during different periods of your relationship, it’s important to remember that this problem is surmountable. By talking to your partner, expressing yourself, and resisting temptation you will be able to overcome the jealous feelings. You got this.

Phones / How To Fix Ios 11 And Ios 11.4 Problems by Solomonudofia(m): 10:06am On Aug 19, 2018
iOS 11.4 problems are likely to continue, even though Apple just issued the update for your iPhone and iPad. It can't fix all of the bugs, WizyHow is out to help you solve them today.

You can download iOS 11.4 right now as the latest stable version of iOS 11, and this should greatly help users who are experiencing disabled touchscreens, poor battery life and slow wireless charging, among other issues.

Why is iOS 11 such a problem? There are now so many iOS 11-compatible devices, wireless carriers, and various settings you may have ticked that others don't. Apple has to bug test for all different scenarios these days, and clearly it's not always working. iPhone 6 and 6S users have had the most complaints, according to our feedback. So, remember, there are minor problems that you and you alone might face with iOS 11 due to your settings. That makes all of this extra difficult.

Here are the top iOS 11 problems and how to fix them to get your iPhone and iPad back up to speed.

New: How to fix the 'black dot' bug on iOS 11

Your Messages app may crash indefinitely if you receive the follow emoji: a 'medium black circle' between a less than and greater than symbol, and a 'backhand index finger pointing left'.

It seems innocent enough, but invisible characters that are a part of this character string overclock the CPU. It'll crash the app every time you try to re-open it, too. Quitting the app won't work.

The fix? With 3D Touch, you're able to avoid opening the last message you saw by selecting the option 'New message.' From here, hit Cancel and you'll see your list of messages. Delete the offending message and avoid opening it at all costs.

Newest iOS 11.3 problem: disabled touchscreen

Updating to iOS 11.3 has been a new headache for people who have already gone through a headache. Specifically, a handful of people who have had a third-party (not Apple) repair their iPhone 8 screen have said that the big iOS 11.3 upgrade disabling their touchscreen.

Yes, that new Red iPhone 8 looks great on the outside, but if you replaced the screen of an iPhone 8 on the cheap, iOS 11.3 may be giving you an even bigger problem. The best solution is to hold off on downloading iOS 11.3 if you can.

Apple has had bugs like this before (for people with aftermarket home buttons repairs) and fixed the issue. If it's too late, it's straight to the Apple Store. There's not much you can do.

1. iPhone with iOS 11 is slow

This is the biggest complaint we hear and it's mostly from iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S users who are a few generations behind the iPhone 8 and iPhone X. Apple has admitted to slowing down their phones' CPUs if the batteries had degraded.

Of course, no one was pleased to hear that Apple was hamstringing their expensive device, and Apple tried to make amends by offering cheap battery replacements. You'll also see iOS 11.3 let you disable performance throttling. So there are two fixes for this issue.

2. Messaging or email apps crash in iOS 11

The iPhone and iPad are powerful tools, but apparently iOS 11 is no match for a single Indian-language character that is crashing devices (with a soft reset) and disabling key apps like Messages, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.

One solution is to download iOS 11.3 right away. We haven't had an issue since updating to the beta software. Those stuck on iOS 11.2 can try to access the app through the drop-down notification (when someone sends you a text). That way, you're not opening up the app the normal way and causing it to crash. Delete the message with the crash-prone character that way. Updating to iOS 11.2.6 should also resolve the vulnerability

A link that can be sent to iPhone users and has the effect of crashing their iPhones, even potentially bricking it, according to The Verge. If you’ve received this phone-crashing link in a message, you can attempt to quickly delete the conversation thread it was sent it, you can factory reset your phone or you can update to iOS 11.3, which should no longer suffer from the crashing issue

3. iMessages backed up to iCloud

We're up to iOS 11.3 and this promised feature still hasn't fulled launched outside of the beta. Apple planned to make it very easy to backup Messages in iCloud and even sync across your iOS and Mac hardware. You wouldn’t have to delete a conversation thread on every single one of your Apple devices. Great, right?

Unfortunately, if you’re having trouble finding that features, you can blame it on them not being there yet. Apple has this feature planned for iOS 11, but it will be coming in a later iteration of the operating system. As of iOS 11.3, this has still not been implemented. The good news is that it's in iOS 11.4 beta along with AirPlay 2. It'll be here before iOS 12.

4. Messages conversations are out of order

Struggling to find a conversation in the Messages app on your iPhone? That may be because of a bug in iOS 11 that caused conversations to appear out of order. Fortunately, the solution is as simple as the problem. Anyone experiencing this issue can upgrade to iOS 11.2.5 or later and should see their conversations stay neatly ordered.

5. iPhone crashing again and again

Hopefully you haven’t been living with this issue for the past months. Some iPhone users running iOS 11.1.2 ran into a problem where their devices would crash and restart, MacRumors reported. This issue started on December 2 and was related to notifications created on the device, like daily reminders or alarms. iOS 11.2 should have resolved this issue, so if you’re experiencing this problem, make sure to update. If you're struggling to install the update because your phone crashes, you may try an alternative fix, which involves disabling local notifications or adjusting the date to a time before December 2.

6. Battery status indicator has disappeared

A new bug was introduced with iOS 11.2.6, and it’s an unfortunate one for anyone who struggles to keep their iPhone charged. The status icon at the top of iOS that shows battery levels disappearing from some devices in iOS 11.2.6, reports Forbes.

There’s no clear solution to get the battery icon displaying properly is known, but you can navigate through the phone’s settings to the Battery section and view it that way. Updating to the iOS 11.3 may also help you dodge around this issue.

7. AirPods are both only playing one channel of stereo audio

Another curious issue introduced with iOS 11.2.6 for Apple AirPod owners is the loss of stereo, as AppleInsider has noted. For users with the problem, the wireless earbuds may both play the left or right channel of audio, instead of splitting the stereo stream appropriately.

A future update may eventually fix this so it never occurs, but fortunately there is also a simple fix for users right now. All you need to do is unpair the AirPods and your iOS device, and then re-pair them. This should resolve the issue.

8. Messages displaying text outside of the notification bubble on lock screen

As far as serious problems for iOS 11 go, this isn’t one of them. Sure, having text show outside of notification bubbles isn’t a thrilling level of polish, but the issue only manifests for a short time until the bubble expands. However, this issue has been seen as indicative of the state of iOS 11 and its plague of issues. The bug even made an appearance in an Apple advertisement, as 9to5 Mac’s Benjamin Mayo spotted.

Apple has pivoted its plans for iOS 11.3, focusing it more on stability than new features. With any luck, that will mean a lot of the lingering issues on this list will be resolved when it comes out, and perhaps fewer new issues will be introduced. This notification bubble issue may be fixed then, too. But, until then, it’s a small problem you’ll have to live with to avoid some of the bigger issues facing versions of iOS 11 prior to 11.2.6.

9. 'A' with a question mark box is replacing 'i'

There's no 'i' in iPhone – at least for some people who have updated to iOS 11. They're seeing the letter 'i' be replaced by an 'A' followed by a question mark box symbol. No, it's not a Super Mario 1-up, it's an autocorrect error

Apple patched this issue with iOS 11.1.1. If you're not updating, you can follow these steps:

Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Text Replacement.

Tap the plus sign in the top right corner

For Phrase, type an upper-case "I". For Shortcut, type a lower-case "i."

Since iOS 11.1.1 solves this issue, it should stay cleared up in the latest 11.2.5 update as well.

11. Can’t connect to a Wi-Fi network

It’s only natural for a user to have reported that their iPhone no longer allowed them to join their personal Wi-Fi network and they surely haven’t been alone in this.
Some preliminary steps to try resolving this issue would be to reset your phone, reset the Wi-Fi router (even if other devices are clearly connected to the internet through it) or forget the Wi-Fi network on your device and rejoin.

You can also attempt to reset the network settings of your device by going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings – don’t worry, this fix shouldn’t erase anything on your phone.

However, the user who posted this issue tried many of these fixes to no success. Depending on which version of iOS you are currently running, the solution may be to upgrade to a newer version or restore an earlier version

12. Poor battery life with iOS 11

It seems that every new version of iOS invariably comes with a whole host of complaints that older iPhones have their battery life severely impacted. If your battery is dying early and it’s not simply because you’re spending more time playing with all the new features and learning all the new iOS 11 tricks, there are a lot of things that could be at the root of it.

Older apps may not be playing nice with iOS 11. You can check to see if that’s the case by going into Settings > Battery and seeing which apps are using the most battery. If any apps that you hardly use are draining it like crazy, you might want to disable them until they get more iOS 11-friendly updates.

BGR suggests that it may just be that it takes a little time for iOS 11 to get comfy with your device. This process could take a few days, so you might want to just wait it out. In the meantime, you can turn off GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth when you’re not using them. You should also lower the brightness of your screen and disable apps refreshing in the background (Settings > General > Background App Refresh).

13. Some apps are gone or not working properly

If you’ve been dragging along some old apps from phone to phone for a while now without updating them (either because you don’t update them or because the creator won’t update them) they may not work well with iOS 11. If they’re old enough, or still 32-Bit, they won’t be compatible with iOS 11.

If you haven’t updated your iPhone yet, you can use our guide to determine which apps will work with iOS 11.

14. Your iPhone’s suddenly filling up its storage

Some users have reported that the update to iOS 11 began to slowly increase the system storage on their device until the device was almost full, even on the latest iPhones. This error doesn’t appear to be linked to specific apps, but rather just the storage that the system itself takes up.

If your habits haven’t changed and your device is continuously overheating when it didn’t usually before, it may be time for you to consider restoring an earlier backup of your device. A short battery life may be annoying, but overheating can seriously damage your device, and iTunes won’t restore a fried CPU

17. Power button isn’t working

If something goes wrong with the update and your power button stops working, you can shut your device down in the menus. To do this, go to Setting>General, and scroll all the way to the bottom of the list, where you’ll see a “Shut down” option that will give you a slider on screen to turn your device off. This is especially handy if you are trying to restart or power down the phone because something else is going wrong, such as overheating.

18. iOS 11 won’t let you send email with Outlook/Exchang

For anyone still running the first iteration of iOS 11, Apple acknowledged a bug that was preventing some iOS 11 users from sending emails through certain Microsoft-run servers. The error message said “Cannot Send Mail. The message was rejected by the server.” If this is the case for you, it’s time for an update. The problem has been fixed as of iOS 11.0.1, so updating should resolve the issue.

19. Visual Voicemail isn't working

Some users of the iOS 11.2 beta noted that Visual Voicemail wasn't working for them. And, unfortunately, it appears that the issue is persistent, having been around since the early days of iOS 11.

If you're experiencing this problem, restarting the phone may help, or restarting the app. Another option is to turn Airplane mode on and off. If restarting or updating your device to the latest stable build of iOS 11 doesn’t work, there are other possible solutions. If you're experiencing this problem, restarting the phone may help, or restarting the app. Another option is to turn Airplane mode on and off.

Some users have reported success by calling to listen to their voicemail and letting the phone listen to the whole voicemail, then exiting the relaunching the app. An AT&T user has also reported success by going to ATT.com and resetting their voicemail password

20. Music controls missing from lock screen

Having music controls handy right on the lock screen of the device is great for music lovers. Pausing and switching songs shouldn't involve unlocking and navigating your phone in the modern day. But, issues with music controls have been popping up all around iOS 11, including in Beta testing. Apple has a fix though, and it came with iOS 11.2. If you're experiencing this issue and not on the latest version of iOS, try updating to resolve the problem.

21. Calculator spitting out wrong answers

Another problem associated with earlier versions of iOS 11 might not have been noticed by many, but it could be bad news for anyone relying on their phone to do calculations. The built-in calculator app struggled with numbers that were input quickly, and could misunderstand what users were inputting. Once again, updating should resolve this hiccup, as iOS 11.2 solved it

22. Control Center isn’t how you want it, lacks features you want, or has features you don’t wan

Control Center is Apple’s handy new way of controlling many aspects of your device, whether that's disconnecting from Wi-Fi or quickly switching songs. You may have heard all about what Control Center can do only to find that it doesn’t have all those features right there and ready for you when you install iOS 11. Or it may seem cluttered with tools you don’t think you’ll ever use. Luckily this is an easy fix, as you can customize the iOS 11 Control Center by going to Settings > Control Center > Customize Controls.

Phones / How To Set Up And Use Find My Iphone To Locate Your Lost Iphone, Ipad And More by Solomonudofia(m): 5:24pm On Aug 18, 2018
Nobody likes to think about their beloved gadgets being lost or stolen, but unfortunately our dearest devices go missing all the time.

The good news is that if you own an iPhone, iPad, MacBook, Apple Watch, AirPods or even an iPod Touch, it can be tracked down using the Find My iPhone feature.

The software made by Apple makes it easy to get them back – you just have to set each item up properly and learn how to use the tools to track it.

This quick guide will help you prepare for the worst, so you can rest a little easier with your Apple devices and head back here when you need to find them if anything untoward happens.

How to set up your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and AirPods with Find My iPhone

Take your main device, which will be your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.

From the home screen, go to Settings > Accounts & Passwords > iCloud > Find My iPhone (or Find My iPod or Find My iPad), and make sure the feature is toggled on. If this is the first time you're setting anything up, you may be required to enter your Apple ID.

If you don't yet have an Apple ID, choose Create a new Apple ID and follow the instructions.

Also on this screen, turn on 'Send Last Location'. This feature will make sure your device transmits its location when it's about to run out of battery, so when you try to locate the device later, you'll see where it was.

If you have Apple AirPods or an Apple Watch paired with your iPhone or iPad, you'll then also get those set up within Find My iPhone. Now you should be all safe to lose or misplace your device.

If you've done this previously and you're here to see how to track down your device, scroll further down for a full guide.

How to set up Find My Mac

It works a touch differently on your Mac, so here you'll want to open up the Apple Menu by pressing on the little logo in the top left of your computer screen. Here you can scroll down to System Preferences and you'll find the iCloud section.

This will be a long list of features that can be backed up to your iCloud, like Siri and your notes, but there's also a Find My Mac icon that you'll need to toggle to get it all set up.

Now you're ready to go, safe in the knowledge you'll be able to track down your device if you lose it.

Lost your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods or Mac? Here's how to track it down on a PC or Mac

Have you now lost your device or you're worried it has been stolen? It's time to track it down.

First off, we'll teach you how to do this from a Mac or PC. Open a web browser and visit iCloud.com. After logging in with your Apple ID and password, click on Find iPhone (the icon that looks like a green radar). After typing your password again, a map will show the location of all your associated iOS devices and Macs.

A green dot means the product is online, while a gray dot means it's offline. If the device was online at any point within the previous 24 hours, you'll be shown the time it was last located.

If a device is online, click on its dot, then click on the information icon (i). (Alternatively, select the device from the pull-down menu at the top-center of the screen.)

A new window will pop up that lists when the device was last located and how much charge it has left, along with three options: Play Sound (to help pinpoint the item if it's close by), Lost Mode (this lets you lock and track the device, and provide contact information — such as displaying a phone number on your lost iPhone), and Erase device.

If you want to remotely erase your device you'll lose everything on it, but it's useful if you have lots of private information backed up to iCloud that you don't want those who find your device to get.

If a device is offline, you'll have a different option: Notify me when found. This will alert you when the item comes back online.

How to track a lost device using an iOS device

You can also locate a lost iOS device using another iOS device. First, download the Find My iPhone app if you don't have it already — the app works the same as the website described above.

You'll then be able to track down the location of your gadget (or at least where it was last spotted) as well as optionally playing an alarm or deleting everything from the device.

Finally, the Find My Friends app can also be used to locate the iPhone of anyone you've agreed to share location data with. The app doesn't provide as many tracking options, but if your child or significant other misplaces their iPhone, this provides a fast and easy way to make a first check.

Romance / 6 Best Books To Read After A Breakup by Solomonudofia(m): 5:08pm On Aug 18, 2018
Breakups come in as many flavors as the pints of ice cream we disappear into to soothe them. The pain of splitting from a long-term partner is responsible for many a bender, sexy rebound, and long brooding nights spent feeling lost and alone. This list of books to read after a breakup is for all the readers out there looking to bury their noses between the pages to heal. (Or maybe just distract themselves from the heartbreak.)

In this list, you’ll find lovers going crazy, rejects searching for meaning, and the occasional laugh. So if you think you have it bad, you’re not alone. These books are here to get your heart healed quick.

1. Oola, Brittany Newell

Boy meets girl gets weird, then weirder, in this short but tantalizing debut novel by author Brittany Newell. Leif, a 25-year-old writer who’s the narraror of this tale, pursues an endearing, then obsessive romance with the titular Oola, as he studies her as the subject of his next literary work. The story unfolds as the romance between the two characters grows into something beautiful, before taking a sharp turn that will make your skin crawl.

“Oola” puts a twist on the classic romance formula pitting love against obsession, relationship against autonomy, and partner against partner. This book will call into question everything you thought you knew about relationships and boundaries, and may very well have you wishing you’ll never be in one again. It’s an especially good read for pop culture nerds, or fans of paranormal fiction or psychological thrillers.

2. Tender is the Night, F. Scott Fitzgerald

This is the fourth and final novel by famed writer F. Scott Fitzgerald. If you haven’t touched anything by Ol’ Scott Fitzgerald since high school, this is your chance to get back into good graces with your tenth grade English teacher. The story follows Dick and Nicole Diver, a glamorous expatriate couple living and partying in the French Riviera and across Western Europe in the 1920s. Things go awry as the Divers explore taking their high profile party guests as lovers.

Set against the backdrop of Jazz Age excess, “Tender is the Night” is a portrait of desire and the false promises that often come with it. This book will have you poring over the beautiful passages, shedding the occasional tear, and struggling to remember the line between attraction and misguided expectation.

3. Sputnik Sweetheart, Haruki Murakami

An older woman, unrequited love, and classical music—these are the active ingredients in Haruki Murakami’s 1999 novel “Sputnik Sweetheart.” The narrator, known only as K, is in love with Sumire, who in turn falls in love with her boss Miu, who is 17 years Sumire’s senior. Nobody is quite happy with the situation, then to make matters worse, Sumire mysteriously vanishes.

In this poetic short novel, all of these would-be lovers wander around dazed, hoping and, at times, begging for affection, which never quite works out for them. In just over 200 pages, Murakami paints a beautiful picture of life in Japan, the European countryside, and the loneliness of rejection. The language is beautifully stylized with a hint of sadness that anyone suffering a recent heartbreak can get into.

4. Cathedral, Raymond Carver

No one does melancholy quite like Raymond Carver. While there are some less than happy couples in this collection of short stories, this book made the list on the sheer strength of its sad factor alone. From a death in the family, to a rehabilitation facility, and, yes, an estranged marriage, Carver delivers this literary gut punch with the tact of a doctor bearing bad news.

Breakups are hard. Take your time to heal. This book is just a good reminder that we’re not suffering alone. Sometimes there’s comfort in that.

5. As She Climbed Across the Table, Jonathan Lethem

We’ve all been rejected before, but usually not for nothing. But this is just what happens when Philip Enstrand’s girlfriend Particle Physics Professor Alice Coombs creates a miniature spatial void in her lab. This void, which Alice nicknames Lack, has a taste for strawberries but not paperclips, cats but not people, this but not that. In other words, Lack has a personality. Alice becomes captivated with this hole in space and time and disillusioned with her boyfriend. She dumps Philip for Lack, a void—a literal nothing.

This light science fiction comedy brings levity to heartbreak and pokes fun at the colorful cast of dysfunctional characters. This book is for anyone in need of a good chuckle or two to slip out of the post-breakup slump.

6. The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Milan Kundera

Part romance, part philosophical musing, Milan Kundera’s internationally acclaimed “The Unbearable Lightness of Being” follows the relationship of Czech doctor Tomas and his wife Tereza from the moment they meet to the moment they pass. Tomas is a chronic adulterer, and Tereza is left to mend a heart broken from her husband’s infidelities.

Relationships and love aren’t often easily explained by logic and reason, and in “The Unbearable Lightness of Being” Milan Kundera captures just that. While the book may not offer you strict answers about former or future relationships, maybe there’s comfort in knowing at least someone else is asking the same questions.

There’s no surefire way to get over a breakup. They’re never easy and these books aren’t a cure. This list is meant to entertain you, take you on a trip, or at least offer some time off from brooding.

Politics / Will My Ex Come Back? Signs They Will Or Won’t by Solomonudofia(m): 9:28am On Aug 13, 2018
A big break up is never easy. It’s even harder when there are still unresolved feelings between you and your ex. Maybe you’re even still texting on a regular basis and trying to be friends. Maybe your ex told you that he wants nothing to do with you.

Either way, you’re left wondering, Will my ex come back? Everybody and each relationship is different, so it’s impossible to say for sure one way or the other. But if you’re interested in getting back together with your ex there are a few signs to look for that will tell you if it’s worth your time to wait or it’s time to move on.

Signs Your Ex Wants To Come Back:

1. The two of your still have plans.

Whether or not you want to be friends with an ex after a breakup is up to you, but if your ex says that they want to be friends at the end of your breakup talk, and you guys still have a lot of plans together, it could mean that the door is still open. After the breakup, see how they act and how much contact they keep.
If your favorite band is in town and you both go, or if you’re mutual friends are throwing a party and you decide to show up together, that may show that they still think of you as a unit and might be interested in moving past friendship again.

2. They miss you.

If your ex tells you that they miss you or they miss how you two were together, it’s a pretty clear sign that they’re thinking about getting back together. When an ex says that they miss you, it means they’ve spent some time apart from you and they realize how much they value the relationship. The distance is giving them clarity that they didn’t have when you were together.

3. They still text you.

For most people, texting is our primary way to communicate. Letters were the way lovers sent sultry proclamations of love to one another in the past but now it’s texting. Singles on dating apps decided whether or not to meet through texts. People fall in love over text. People who have broken up recently with the intention of moving on should not be texting. If you’re ex is frequently hitting your line, it means that they’re thinking about you and not just as friends.

4. You’re getting drunk dials and calls at odd hours of the night.

It’s said that your true colors come out at night… or when you’re drinking. If you’re receiving drunken calls from your ex, it means that they’re thinking of you when they’re a little less inhibited. There’s a good chance that they want to get back together, but be careful. It could be they’re just feeling lonely and miss the connection and not the relationship.. Sober calls in the middle of the night are similar. They miss the comfort of your presence before tucking in for the night.

5. They’re blowing up their social media to make you jealous.

This one is far from a sure thing, but sometimes after a breakup an ex will go hyperactive on social media. They’ll post a bunch of activities that they now have the time for. If these activities feature potential partners or obvious flirting they might be trying to make you jealous. This goes double for direct messages and Snaps. It can definitely be cover for them missing you.

Signs Your Ex Doesn’t Want To Come Back:

1. All contact is cut off.

Usually if the breakup was bad (and even sometimes during an amicable split), there will be a no contact rule. This is probably for the best if both parties are looking to move on, but it also means that the door is closed. If your ex proposed cutting off contact after your break, it probably means that they have no intention whatsoever of coming back to you and you should respect that.

2. The last fight was really messy.

Sometimes, if the last fight you and your ex had was really bad, there’s just no recovery for a relationship. This could range from shouting to name calling to items being thrown. Usually, if a relationship ends on a note like this your ex isn’t going to be looking to repeat that type of upset and pain.

3. They’re dating other people.

Whether your ex is dating multiple people casually or one person seriously, it’s a sign that they have moved on from the relationship and so should you. This doesn’t mean that your relationship wasn’t special or meaningful, just that, that phase of your life is over and it’s time to prepare yourself for what’s next.

4. Mutual friends are telling you to move on.

Usually when two people have been dating for a long time, friend groups become mixed and the lines blur. In an amicable breakup, it may be tough to tell what your ex is thinking. Do they secretly want you back? Are they just being coy? If your mutual friends are telling you to move on, it means that you should. It means that either your ex is telling you through them that to move past the relationship or that your friends know your ex is moving on and want what’s best for you both. Either way they’re just giving you a friendly nudge.

5. They’ve said the words.

This one is pretty simple, but it’s important to say anyway. Sometimes, when we’re hurt in a breakup, we look for signs where there aren’t any. If your ex said in no uncertain terms that your relationship is over and they don’t want to get back together with you, then you should respect their decision. It’s a tough pill to swallow, but sometimes there aren’t any hints or clues—just the way things are. Respect them and accept it, even if it hurts.

Love can do amazing things to us and so can the loss of it. There is no established rule book about what can and can’t happen after a breakup. I don’t want to rule out miraculous reunions, because they do happen, and these signs will help you figure out if one of those is headed your way. But most of the time, a breakup is a break for good, and even though it’s hard you’ll have to accept it eventually. People can be unpredictable and hurtful, but also beautiful and loving. It’s this inconsistency that when love works makes it feel so much like magic. It’s maddening to lose something special, but that’s how it is sometimes. I hope you find the magic for keeps either with this one or the next one.

Religion / Spirituality & Faith: Blessings And Curses by Solomonudofia(m): 10:12am On Aug 12, 2018
It’s hard… Very hard in fact… ‘It’s hard’; I repeat. ‘What is?’ You might wonder.

Doubts and Belief.

It’s hard believing in someone whose existence you constantly doubt as easy as you believe in Him. It isn’t easy, especially when ‘blessings‘ come in form of ‘curses’.

I saw something today; it read; ‘I stopped believing in God due to infertility.’ What might have gone wrong. Her prayers weren’t enough or her parents own weren’t? What kind of comfort words do you give such a person? It’s hard; believing. It really is hard holding on especially when blessings come twisted with curses. How do you fathom the supremacy of He who you’ve never seen? When destiny, fate, luck or sheer coincidence could be the reason for the response you ‘thought’ you got to your prayers.

Who do we blame?

Should the child whose mother dies while giving her life be blamed or the bride whose in-laws died on the way to her wedding?

Should the neighbors’ daughter who got pregnant at 14 be blamed or should we put the blame on the father who sent the mother packing when the said daughter was just 9?

Should the drunk uncle take the blame for the rape or the maid who opened the door at 12:15 am be blamed?

Should we continually label the grandmother whose children and grandchildren die; a witch or should we accept that these children didn’t ‘choose‘ long life.

It’s easy, very easy to blame people for things that happens to us, or even God: the person of an higher authority for what might have been. It’s convenient to throw in blames at when willed.

Grace.

I’m a firm believer in something called ‘luck’ and a probable higher cause called ‘grace’; as at when convenient. I find it difficult to believe in this thing called ‘fate’ or ‘destiny’ though. I find it unbelievable that someone who makes all things beautiful would think a creation of his deserves a pint or bucketful or houseful of bad luck and then we tag it ‘fate’. And all this for no just cause? The puzzle just doesn’t fit.

It’s easy for the society to castigate the newborn whose mother died or a bride whose in-law met with their death on the way to her wedding. Would the baby’s death with the mother have lessen the pain or the death of the in-laws after the wedding make things any easier?

Maybe; ‘fate’, ‘luck’, ‘destiny’, ‘fortune’ and ‘coincidence’ are school of thoughts created by men for men to make things (situations) ‘easier’ to accept, and well, maybe not. Because, all this would mean accepting that some people are born to ‘suffer’ or be ‘nonentities’.

Many times it’s hard to just hold on and let things take it’s course. Many times the person of a superior authority is questioned. Many times, letting go is easier especially when ‘God’ seemingly sends a ‘gift’ that is both a blessing and a curse

Sports / Asaba 2018: How Team Nigeria Fared On Day 4 Of African Senior Athletics Champion by Solomonudofia(m): 6:32pm On Aug 05, 2018
It was just two medals for Team Nigeria at Day 4 of 2018 African Senior Athletics Championships holding in Asaba.

Team Nigeria got eight medals in total on Day 3 but it wasn’t the same high on Day 4, Saturday, August 4.

Kelechi Nwanaga won gold in the final of women’s javelin with a fifth round effort of 56.96m to beat Jo-ane Van Dyk of South Africa and Uganda In Josephine LaLaw.

Oyeniyi Abejoye got silver for Team Nigeria in 110m Hurdles with a time of 13.87s in the final.

Oduduru for the final

One of the biggest names in Nigerian athletes, Divine Oduduru was in action on Day 4, running a time of 20.60s to finish second in his heat and qualify for the final in men’s 200m.

The third and fifth finishes of the duo of Emmanuel Arowolo and Jerry Jakpa were not enough to make it to the final. Jakpa had earlier in Day 4 ran a Personal Best (PB) of 20.87s.

Praise Idamadudu ran a time of 23.92s in the women’s category to qualify for the final.

In women’s 400m Hurdles, Glory Nathaniel got an easy win with a time of 55.95s to qualify for the final. Her time was the fastest of the two heats.

Celebrities / Why 2baba’s ‘amaka’ Is The Best Song You Will Listen To This Year by Solomonudofia(m): 10:00am On Aug 04, 2018
Come end of the year, when it is time for awards and honours, 2face Idibia’s ‘Amaka’ featuring Peruzzi will emerge in the pick of the best song you have listened to this year.

On my way home, Thursday, July 3rd, after a pretty long day, I slumped in my corner in the bus, plugged in my earpiece to browse through local radio stations (old habit), and just lose myself in my thoughts.

As I tuned to the first station, the song that was playing was 2face Idibia‘s ‘Amaka‘ with DMW’s Peruzzi, and just as the song played to its end, I skipped to another station and it was the same song being introduced by the OAP, so I stopped fiddling with the dial for a moment to enjoy a double dose of this spiritual tune.

Then a higher sound overshadowed mine and interrupted my haven, the driver had turned up the volume, but just as I was about to pass a complaint, behold, it was ‘Amaka’ playing again, this time on a different station.

Like a wise veteran artist once said, the first time he knew he had made it big in music, was the day his song got played over 4 times simultaneously across different radio stations.

In his over 2 decades long career, 2Baba has scored yet another hit song that epitomises his growth, his ability to evolve and his comprehension of time and trend.

‘Amaka’ is not 2face at his lyrical best, nor the conscious cloak his music constantly puts up, Amaka is also not 2face stealing the heart of ladies with his love ballads, the song is simply everything plus more.

‘Amaka’ tells the everyday story of the average Nigerian guy, a tale of ‘been there, done that’, it is as relatable as it is revitalising, and its organic growth has made it inescapable and straight in your face everywhere you turn.

How do you go wrong, when your opening line is as honest and expressive as, ‘I like woman, I dey straightforward’?

Delivered in a mix of English, Pidgin and Ibibio languages, a new chant is born as everyone now sings, ”Amaka disappoint me” as an expression of their own experiences.

For Odion, who says he can’t get enough of the song, ”I like the song because of the realness of the lyrics and how playful it is, there is plenty humour attached to it.”

While David Adeleke thinks, ”This is one of those songs that even when you don’t know why you do, you find yourself liking it.”

The song was released in June and since then it has hit over 1.7M views on Youtube and sits comfortably atop a number of charts nationwide.

‘Amaka’ is equal parts storytelling, equal parts comical, but generally enchanting, making it the most perfect anthem for everyone.

The song’s acceptance is not just down to its simplicity or relatability, Amaka is actually a well crafted piece of music, that paid attention to key details, layered melodies and catchy chorus.

While the lyrics are the most telling elements of the song, the melody and progression cannot also be understated, as it all adds up to provide the right elements in why the song is easily loved.

On a technical level, music enthusiast, Motolani identifies the brilliance of the producer Speroach, the same person responsible for Davido‘s ‘Assurance’, ”Speroach killed it with the beat,” he says.

It had a kick which was not too loud but efficient, I also love the verses and Peruzzi won my heart.”

‘Amaka’ is also a reflection of our society, as in the verses, they both allude to having to buy diesel for their generators, a pointer to the state of power in the nation, and the influence of social media in our lives.

So how did ‘Amaka’ weave its magic?

To have the whole country singing along to your song is not something that happens by chance, but an act that takes place by understanding the audience and their emotions.

‘Amaka’ appeals to every one of us in its own unique way, for the young lady, who has had to skip a planned date or the young guy who had to put his house in order in expectation of the girl who never showed up.

‘Amaka’ does not exactly offer something new to the pop scene, but it doesn’t sound like anything you hear every day.

While the music may be comical and light-hearted, the lyrics are vibrant and sincere. Amidst all these, the blend of 2face’s familiar vocals with that of the ridiculously gifted Peruzzi, who swoons with his voice makes it the perfect soundtrack of our lives.

So a combination of smooth instrumentals, steady progression through alternate verses, the right melody and upfront approach to vocals creates a right mix for one of the finest songs that the Nigerian music industry has offered in 2018, and there have been a solid number of them.
