AgricultureRe: Practical Farmers Pls Share Ur Bitter Experience, Let Learn From Your Mistakes. by Soloxam(op): 7:14pm On Jan 03, 2015

I have made 2 major mistakes in farming. The first was the costly assumption that I know it all or I've seen it all. this mistake has cost me so much in the past and it's part of the things I have been trying hard to correct over the years. I have come to understand that the greatest professionals in agriculture, do not end up with the biggest harvest. some soils are just more healthy than others while some people's hands are plain lucky or blessed. between the time of planting and the time of germination, we as farmers play the most minimal part in the functionality of germination. and this is where the God factor comes in. we can only hope and pray the good seeds we put in the ground germinate. I think we should come to that point where we admit that our technical "know-how" contributes at best, 35% to the output result. It really pays to be humble in agriculture in order to learn more and see more
Bros u make sence, pls more from you.....

AgricultureRe: Practical Farmers Pls Share Ur Bitter Experience, Let Learn From Your Mistakes. by Soloxam(op): 8:20pm On Dec 31, 2014
Haven known that NURSERY is a place where our young plant is raise and taken care of.
The process could be done/carry out in the farm even in our backyard, provided it not going to be affected by any external forces; goat, lizard,or our domestic animals.

While considering NURSERY, we should ensure our growing medium is deseas, pest and weed free.
Before these could be achieve then we should thing of means to bring all these to check. At this point we will talk of soil STERILIZATION.......... This method will be discuss next year 2015.............

Hope to hear from you all come 2015......... HAPPY NEW YEAR iN ADVANCE..................

Thanks.
Plantains seems to be getting a lot of mentions...seems like its looking like the most viable option currently.
Do you know any particular risks or major challenges with plantains i should be aware of before i venture into it? So that i dont get surprised with finding out something when i'm already neck deep in the middle of it.

Dont know if maize will grow well in Lagos....usually see maize being grown in the middle belt/North. I've never really come across it being grown in Lagos, maybe because i havent particularly looked out for it.

Same goes for cassava.
They are many plaintian thread here, just check, or better contact Lesgupnigeria or World1. If nah anything vegetable I think I can answer/solve ur question.
AgricultureRe: Farming In Ikorodu, Lagos by Soloxam(m): 4:04pm On Dec 31, 2014
Bros with ur conditions I will advice u to plant maize, cassava, or plantian. Those are the plant that require less attention. Livestock and vegetables is no go area for you cos they required more attention. Good luck.
AgricultureRe: Cabbage And Letuce Farming by Soloxam(m): 9:00pm On Dec 30, 2014
@ Op to answer ur question as regard how u can plant, with my little experience, cabbage is three month plant from transplanting, though it depend on the size u want desire. While lettuce is just 5-6 week after transplanting. They both required nursery process. But I must tell u before going to cultivate these crops u need regular and steady water, cos the plants responds to water, u will dislike them when u fail to give them water especially this season. So I will advice u to plant lettuce now if u have good water supply, and plant the Cabbage during raining season.. Especially in the cold season, around june to july, so that it will easily fold head. Head folding will be difficult now cos of the hot weather. Also pest control is a major challenges u will face when planting cabbage. I will be up loading pest u are likely to see in ur farm and how to go about it. Good luck.

Nursery Management: Nursery is simply a place where our seeds are been planted before taken to a permanent field, here maximum and intensive cares are given to the young plants.

Nursery practice is important as most of the seeds can not be planted directly to the field because most of these seeds can not withstand hardship condition, also some are not easily planted directly because of their sizes.

Therefore, Nursery practice/management is important and should be done with high level of care, as many farm loss 50% of their profit at this crucial stage.

MY BIRTHDAY LOADING..........THANK YOU LORD FOR YOUR KINDNESS.........
