The first goal he scored against Portugal was a solo goal he worked for on his own. had to beat 4 defenders to score. tbaba1234: A striker has to fight for the ball.. If Costa was waiting for chances to be placed on a platter, he will not score many of his goals. For the kind of role Ighalo plays, you must be a bully and fight for everything |

I arranged the formation based on the lineup that was used yesterday. in that lineup, he's better on that wings than where he played yesterday Spy360: Etebo is not a winger. Shehu should not be on the starting line up. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by somehow: 6:55pm On Jun 17, 2018 |
forgiveness: I totally agree with the organizations and system of play was spot on. It really confused the Croats because they never expected us to play that system and to be even organized.
They expected 3-5-2 formation though they had planned for the 4-3-3 Formation too but they never expected us to cover up for our weak wing backs with our wingers because they knew that was our weakness and planned to utilize the wings.
However, it was tasking and tiring for our wingers to defend and attack at the same time. That was why Iwobi got tired easily.
It could have been better he played Etebo who has the energy to burn like Simon Moses on the wing, play Mikel from the deep and then move Iwobi behind Ighalo as soon as he realised Iwobi tire. At least, em go rest small and later pick up.
Iwobi didn't have that energy and he couldn't offer upfront on the wings hence the reason we saw only Victor Moses doing all the attacking moves.
This is why wingers are very important in our game.
Anyway, we blocked that place well until Ahmed Musa came on and we saw the only chance they had on the wing.
Apparently, he was tasked to do more of attacking and less defending because we were in search of goal.
The only problem was the AMF and wingers save Victor Moses, didn't come to the party.
They left Ighalo to create chances by himself. If Ighalo had the support of Iwobi yesterday, we for score.
I rate Ighalo 8/10 because he did his job well. He drew fouls, won balls, created half chances by himself etc.
He should start the next match with either Iwobi or Simy. Apart from the rating you gave Ighalo, i agree with everything else, was discussing this with the guys we watched the match together as soon as i saw the line up. This would have saved Iwobi from tiring out too early, the few times he came to this position, he had attempts at goal which got blocked. Insisting on playing 4:2:3:1 would have worked much more better if he deployed the right legs on the right positions.

Please allow me to speak on better matters if you refuse to understand simple football concepts. Thank you. When you answer the question, i will decide to either accept or reject your label. We played 4:2:3:1 same with the crots, how many of their crosses came from their RB? How come it was Modric and Rakitic that did the crosses and passes? Let's be serious, can you answer this? Since you think you know the role of a RB in a 4:2:3:1. There is no FB or RFB in a 4:2:3:1. Pls its very simple to grasp. In all of my comments, i haven't hailed him nor did i hail anyone else, i only said expecting him to do the crosses when we had a Moses bossing that wing is unfair. How come Rohr only get to use Ebuehi in a 3:5:2 formation and not the other way round? |

we played the same formation with the Croats yesterday, please how many of their attacks was started by their RB/LB? TheSuperNerd: Hahahahahahahaha... It is so very clear now that you indeed are only defending this dude.
So when Moses was on the ball and controlled on more than three occasions with a Shehu abdullahi running up on the other side of the right, you don't know it is natural for him as a fullback to exploit that space by opening up for moses to send the pass and keep attack flowing and bombing up that right? Moses passed to Shehu in space in a few of these occasions and instead of Shehu to bomb forward and try pick a cross, he just easily held the ball, looked up and reversed only to pass backwards or sideways. He didn't offer us an outlet unlike Idowu did the few times we attacked through Idowu's wings. This is why that Ighalo soft header on target came via Idowu's wing. Shehu was so so so frustratingly poor offensively.
So you haven't watched how wingers work with their fullbacks when in attacking transition abi? Hahahahaha I laugh oooo...
I wonder who then is the one finding such a simple concept to grasp. Shehu offered us nothing offensively and was very timid and devoid of invention and dare going forward. He could not move forward to exploit the space for a cross... He could not open up by running into that space to charge down into the box from that channel... He was always and always turning away from space and going backwards and sideways. He should kindly for this good of this team take a backseat for Ebuehi who is obviously a better player in that role.
This is the same Shehu I praised and always hailed for his consistent solid displays during the WCQs but let truth be told, we have a better RB and fine upgrade in Ebuehi. |

How do you expect him to do the crosses when he's playing behind Moses who was bossing that wing? how is this so difficult for you to grasp? the goal Iwobi scored against Zambia, who gave him that cross from the wing? Were you expecting him to outrun Moses so that he can cross thereby exposing the RB for Perisic to feast on? your argument is not going anywhere man. for the formation used yesterday, he did no wrong, in a 3:5:2, the RB automatically becomes RWB/FB, was that what we played yesterday? we played the same formation with the Croats yesterday, please how many of their attacks was started by their RB/LB? Maybe if he was played as the RB in a 3:5:2, then and then would your points stand. I give up oga. looking forward to the next game. TheSuperNerd: Ighalo's own came from the left but not uptop left... It was diagonally forward. It came from behind but from the left.
Balogun had one and it came from a corner. Off target it went.
I don't recall Ndidi having a go with his head.
But from Shehu's wing?!! With an attack in transition? None... None!!! None!!!! And all because he was timid in becoming our extra outlet of attack down that right.
As a team we are to utilise every facet of our game. We have scored from cross and nod before... We can do so again especially down that right. The right is our stronghold because of Moses Victor but his supporting Fullback was not inventive or adventurous enough. So this is not a minor issue ooo... because we also speak of different approaches that can try fetch us goals and keep us on the ascendancy up front. |

TheSuperNerd: Did we cross at all with Shehu in that game? Did Shehu open up and send in one cross? So why asking for the ones that fell in? Funny. You are just doing your best to defend Shehu. Omo... Shehu was poor offensively when we were in transit in attack down the right wing. I need not speak so much on that even. It is glaring except to a few of you ofcos who choose to see only what you choose to see. Yes we did,. Balogun had 2 headers, Ndidi also had 1 i think. Ighalo also had one. But they were useless. Cross and nod hasn't been our strong points since Rohr came in so what exactly are you guys talking about? Like it was because of the crosses we didn't score or what? Go and watch the matches again. Btw, i am not defending shehu, i am just getting you guys attention away from minor issues that wouldnt even help us. Go and check all my recent lineups and you wont find Shehu there. Just stating that the current lineups doesnt support crosses because there would be no one to make use of it and we arent that good in the air either. Lastly, unless 2 strikers are used and Simy is included, all air balls will remain wasted. Tell me if Ighalo won more than 1 airball yesterday. |

TheSuperNerd: We could have tried. Crosses coming in like rain in that manner can always result in one chance or the other for a strike to be made. It must not always be about connecting with the head. The ball could drop off a poor or desperate tame clearance and one hit from the in-running advanced midfielders or forwards like Iwobi, Moses or Mikel or maybe an Ndidi depending on their positioning when we are on the attack in such manner, could head right in.
Also, Balogun's came from a corner I think. Ighalo's was weak no doubt and from the flanks (left flank I think).
In all, crosses dropped more than four or five times repeatedly in the opponent box could or may result in a chance for a strike off a desperate tame clearance... Or an easy tap in.. The ones that came in, how many did you use? You that cant even defend the ones that came into your own box wants to make use of those in the opposite half? Get the truth, this squad will do nada with crosses, they are better off with grass ball. If you want more crosses, use the right tools as strikers. |

TheSuperNerd: You added notes on corners...
Okay now let's try to get this... We wasted our corners because right from I can remember, we have not yet mastered the art of being threatening from set pieces like Cornerkicks. And it is sad. I recall many pages ago crediting Oliseh for improving that aspect of our play. We were deadly from indirect freekicks and corner kicks in his short tumultuous reign. But under Rohr we have only converted once from a corner against Cameroun... A dummy corner it was sef.
Also, in a corner kick, the opponent is organized enough to snuff us out and add that to the fact we are not threatening.
Now back to crosses...
In an attacking move down the flanks with the bold and adventurous fullback pushing into those pockets of spaces to run in behind and pick some crosses , the opponent won't be as organized as it is for a corner. It would be quick attempts by their available men at the back to clear the ball and there is a chance he could miss and we score, he turns it into his net... Or he clears it tamely and we capitalise and hit a rocket in....
...Or it could be akin to the fullback acting like an overlapping Onazi against Cameroun who found Nacho with a sweet low level headed cross after running in behind after opening up nicely for Victor Moses down same right... (This is what Shehu was meant to offer when we were in quick attack down that right at times... Ebuehi can offer this trait). This is what crosses can do and how dangerous we can actually be from crosses. Bro we dont have the line up that favors pull in/crosses except if Rohr starts using 2 strikers which must include Simy. So Shehu did nothing wrong yesterday because Moses did most of the wing play on that right side so what kind of crosses were you then expecting from him and for who? The formation didn't favor any pul in/crosses. Believe this bro. |

You keep repeating this, which collapse did we collapse? Did we not concede 2 goals when he was on the field of play, how many did we concede after he left? Collapse ko, calipso no. This is what happens when we support the eagles because of some certain players, we get blinded to their fault abd twist facts in their favor. TheGoodJoe: We collapsed yesterday when Mikel left the field. He is a glue that holds us together. Mikel worked hard but he needs passing options. I hope Rohr does the right thing and start Iheanacho upfront and give Ebuehi the nod. With the forward movements of these guys, we will disorganize the opposition and create spaces to exploit. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by somehow: 11:55am On Jun 17, 2018 |
TheSuperNerd: Rohr had the balls to bench Onazi abi and start Etebo and we saw it justified!
Now let him take it a bit further to bench Ighalo and Shehu. It is a no brainer. What Ighalo failed to do all game, Iheanacho came in and brought some life into that attack having a half-chance shot taken and even created a fine chance for Musa. We looked more dangerous with Iheanacho after his intro and also with Musa.
As for Shehu, that lad is scared to cross and to open up as an outlet for more attacking plays. Ebuehi trumps him all round. Shehu dulled us on the right going forward even though he did make a few defensive clearances. We need to be more adventurous and daring and sadly Shehu is not! Ebuehi should come in.
How can we have more than two occasions on which an overlap and cross-in from Shehu would have caused mayhem in the Croatian box only for Shehu to act all timid when Moses wants him to open up and he chooses to turn and pass backwards. It is criminal. He should be benched. His dullness is the reason Moses was always covering for him too and playing too deep down that right. Moses could not link up as he wants with Mikel upfront and Ighalo further up because of Shehu. Frustrating!
Rohr must be brave and start our very best. Enough of accomodating "players because they played the WCQs bla bla bla."
This is the time for Mad Action with the very best we have. For once we actually had a better bench than what we had on field and Rohr didn't react well enough. Sad. We must do it right against Iceland from the word go because that game ehn..... That is the realest war of them all. Even you? No amount of crosses would have made us score as long as it was Ighalo that was in that box. You are playing a one man striker who is not known to be great with his head and you think lack of crosses was why we didnt score? I won't say more than that. The few crosses we connected to were from balogun and only one weak heading from ighalo. What was done with our 5 to 6 corners? |

Modric noticed shehu wasn't the best for that position so keeps loading the ball down persic wing You guys should stop this please. Is Perisic not their main winger? were you expecting Modric to send passes elsewhere and not to their main winger who gets to send the ball into the box for their ever tall strikers to feed on? It's like saying the guy playing 3 was their weakest link, hence the reason Uzoho kept sending goalkicks towards Moses.
