Omatseye's grandmother must be a local champion in itsekiri. Good for her. Omatseye should follow her footsteps in itsekiri, and leave world renowned colossus like achebe.
PoliticsRe: Sam Omatseye, Under-Fire For Column On Achebe by SonOfEl(m): 8:05am On Apr 09, 2013
@ola johnson, we are saying the same thing, awo is an ETHNIC CHAMPION. He did it for yoruba isn't it? Soyinka is a great playwright, pls don't use him as a shield for your ethnic bigotry. Achebe fought for every darkskinned human on earth, just like his igbo predecessor- equiano. Great men of like minds....proudly 'EBOES'!
PoliticsRe: Sam Omatseye, Under-Fire For Column On Achebe by SonOfEl(m): 7:44am On Apr 09, 2013
@ola johnson, the world pays it's tribute to achebe. Awo never received such because he is an ethnic champion. Omatseye in his lifetime, will never stand shoulder to shoulder with achebe. As for you, go to hell.
PoliticsRe: Sam Omatseye, Under-Fire For Column On Achebe by SonOfEl(m): 7:37am On Apr 09, 2013
@kingoflag, listen to yourself. The man forged his origin, LIKE YOU FORGED YOURS. Birthplace is even different from ancestral origin. Equiano says he is igbo, why is it biting you? Are you his father? Envious beast.
PoliticsRe: Sam Omatseye, Under-Fire For Column On Achebe by SonOfEl(m): 7:29am On Apr 09, 2013
When will people stop being stupid. A man is telling you his origin, you say he is not sure. Birthplace is different from origin. Equiano says he is of igbo origin and some people are trying to dispute HIS OWN ACCOUNT. If you heard read works about him, including the wikipedia FULL DISCUSSION about more facts weighing his birthplace account to be true, jealous imbeciles like you will just shut up. @caustical, you are from hutu tribe not yoruba, disprove me since i know you better than yourself...fool.
PoliticsRe: Sam Omatseye, Under-Fire For Column On Achebe by SonOfEl(m): 1:58am On Apr 09, 2013
@caustical, it's not about accomodating, it's about who the cap fits. By the way, by equiano's own account, he is igbo, are you the one to tell him his origin? His place of birth may be vague, but an educated man like equiano would never have an amnesia of his origin. Caustical, you are born loser, go to bed.
PoliticsRe: Sam Omatseye, Under-Fire For Column On Achebe by SonOfEl(m): 1:41am On Apr 09, 2013
@caustical, shut up and read his autobiography. He himself said he is igbo from essaka(i.e isieke)....it okay if you are envying us already....oluuda ikwuano is how his name is pronounced loser, it's not a 20th century spelling.
PoliticsRe: Sam Omatseye, Under-Fire For Column On Achebe by SonOfEl(m): 1:34am On Apr 09, 2013
Yes you are right caustical, cos your slavish tribe is On Your Own, OYO. We igbos helped you run your first generation universities namely U.I and UNILAG, by profs kenneth dike and eni njoku respectively....ingrates like you.

Igbos are ably represented in the field of literature, as far back as the 16th century, take a look at olaudah equiano, first african writer of the industrial/modern age and dogged abolitionist....proudly igbo! Caustical, go and lick caustic soda!

Caustical, you are indeed a coward and a loser. Mention that of your kinsmen....if not soyinka, and perhaps, osundare, who else do you have? Olodo.... If you want to come into the realm of science, am ready for you. You can't even compare awo to zik of africa, one in whom the ideology of zikism is noted among foreign observers.... Caustical, find your level...
PoliticsRe: Sam Omatseye, Under-Fire For Column On Achebe by SonOfEl(m): 12:53am On Apr 09, 2013
@caustical, literary award winners trace their mentor to achebe, who traces his/her mentor to soyinka(no offense)? When you mention people like mandela of africa, you mention achebe of africa, these men fought white supremacy in a gallant way.

Gish prize, magaret wong literary prize, commonwealth poetry prize, german book prize...i can't list them all, all from achebe himself. I have not mentioned prizes from ekwensi, adichie, unigwe, okigbo, iweala, ndibe, etc. I give the assignment to you. Mention your kinsmen's...

@caustical, we don't need to mention names. Your brain must have been phased out if you don't know any. But to help your fagged out brain a bit, start with equiano and jaja of opobo, study their legacies and submit your assignment on NL.

@dayokanu and co, pulitzer, orange, german book trade, booker, nobel, fischer, etc are numerous awards that has categories in literature. Check this awards and see if it's only yoruba names that are mentioned there. You are an ethnic worm eating up nairaland. Achebe's legacy transcends awards, even award winners e.g mandela, gordimer, soyinka, adichie, ngugi, etc pay homage to achebe. You know why? Because he gave africa a strong literary voice when there was none. Go and hug a suicide bomber.
PoliticsRe: Sam Omatseye, Under-Fire For Column On Achebe by SonOfEl(m): 8:58pm On Apr 08, 2013
@tolexander, are you this retarded? Achebe joins the ranks of twain, tolstoy, etc, as deserving of the prestigious european prize. They were not rewarded for political cum cultural reasons. Google this fact and learn. What makes think the nobel is the greatest literary prize? Is it monetary value? Achebe would have gotten that if he had nodded at 50cents offer for the use of things fall apart title. Every serious critic knows the political twist nobel prize has taken.

@dayokanu, you lousy worm, why does anything achebe or igbo success annoy you. Soyinka is soyinka. Achebe is achebe. Soyinka is important, thanks to nobel in sweden. Achebe even in death, is important, thanks to every literary conscience in the world.

Tribalistic ingrates, the man who defended the integrity and rationale of every darkskinned human on earth with his pen is now a 'disgrace', and an intellectual subordinate to the nobel prize. Shame on you all.

Son-Of-El:
There are men whose influence are not dictated by prestigious awards, rather, their influence are dictated by the impact of their work. Dayokanu, you are a living disgrace, is nardine gordimer also not a nobel winner? is mandela not a nobel peace prize winner? Yet they acknowledged the great impact of the african crusader- achebe. Nobel winners honour achebe for his sacrifice towards africa. Achebe's works are beyond literature, they touch the human conscience, and this cost him the much deserved nobel prize. By the way, the nobel prize has no monopoly in rewarding literature. If achebe needed 6-digit-dollar worth of prize value, the title of his first book would have gotten it for him from 50cent.

@eko ile, you are a disgrace to africa. Even soyinka himself would never spew such despicable comments uttered by you. Nadine gordimer, another NOBEL winner, called achebe "father of modern african literature", and much of the world's literary community, even to achebe's hesitation and surprise, said AMEN to it. Ngugi, arymah, etc owe their deserved success to achebe, and they acknowleged it. Who is sam to attempt rubbishing achebe? Soyinka is a great african thinker of the very first order, the nobel comm got it right. Achebe is in his own right, is a great african conscience of the very first order, ask mandela, ask cnn, bbc, chinapost, aljazeera, forbes, telegraph, etc. Eko ile, achebe spoke against racism for every black man, including an ungrateful sam and you.

Awoyokun has proven to be a worthy devil's advocate. The fundamental question here still lies unanswered- if achebe and his biafrans were supremacists, tribalists, and liars, why werent they allowed to be on their own? Was biafra not a unanimous decision of the then eastern region? Britain had left nigeria 7yrs earlier, was it a sin for biafra to be on it's own (after all the "trouble" they put nigeria through)as at 1967? I look at the nigeria gowon, awolowo and co fought diabolically for and i laugh, it's not that i hate them or nigeria, it's just that ideas have a way of proving themselves either wrong or right. Awolowo did wrong in all his policies and actions towards biafra, this dosen't make him a devil though. I am igbo obviously, that is not to say that ojukwu was prudent in managing the war. Achebe has done well, his book is a personal memoir that grieves on the abuse of biafra's right to be independent.
