The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Wednesday, August 8, has ordered Nigeria's inspector general of police to arrest and bring the chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu, to court for refusing to obey a valid order court, Independent Newspaper reports.


Justice Stephen Pam had on July 5 ordered Yakubu to appear before him to prove why he should not be sent to prison for contempt of court but five days later, on July 10 when the court sat again, Mahmood did not show up with his counsel, Mr Adeboyega Awomolo.

Consequently, on August 1, he ordered the arrest of the INEC boss for failing to appear in court for the third time and asked the police to effect the arrest immediately.

The news outlet reports further that Goddy Uche, counsel to the plaintiff, had earlier told the court that the INEC chairman had blatantly refused to obey an order of court summoning him to appear in court.

As a result of this, Justice Pam was said to have demanded to know from counsel to the INEC chairman, Adegboyega Awomolo, why Prof Mahmood was not in court.


In his reply, Awomolo was quoted to have said: “My lord, I don’t know where he is; if Goddy knows, he should go and bring him.”

The judge repeated his question: “Chief, where is Prof Mahmood?”

Responding, Awomolo said: “My lord, it is beyond my brief to produce the INEC Chairman in court. The court has issued a bench warrant against Prof Mahmood, so, let the IGP produce him in court.”

Going further, Justice Pam said that the order of August 1st, was still subsisting and has not been set aside or discharged.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) petitioned the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Abdul Abdu-Kafarati, to disqualify the judge that issued arrest warrant against him, Vanguard reports.

NAIJ.com gathered that the INEC boss, in the petition he filed through his team of lawyers led by Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, alleged that Justice Stephen Pam, was determined to send him to prison without recourse to the rule of law.

Ghana’s minister for foreign affairs and regional integration, Shirley Ayorkor-Botchwey, says Nigerian traders were not affected by her country’s recent quit notice to foreigners to vacate its retail markets

- She said the quit notice only applied to other nationals outside the ECOWAS bloc

- Her Nigerian counterpart, Geoffrey Onyeama, also gave the assurance that the Ghanaian govt is very much on top of the situation

Shirley Ayorkor-Botchwey, Ghana’s minister for foreign affairs and regional integration, has disclosed that the recent quit notice to foreigners to vacate the country’s retail markets did not affect Nigerian traders and other ECOWAS nationals.

She made the disclosure known in Abuja on Monday, August 6, during a courtesy visit to her Nigerian counterpart, Geoffrey Onyeama, Vanguard reports.

NAIJ.com notes that on Wednesday, July 11, foreign nationals engaged in retail business in Ghana were issued a quit notice to vacate the country’s markets, because Ghanaian law reserves operation of retail business only for citizens.

The National Association of Nigerian Traders had warned that the quit notice could ignite xenophobic attacks.

However, Botchwey stated: “This has nothing to do with our ECOWAS brothers and sisters. It was more to do with other nationals.

“Yes, there is a problem that Nigerians and other ECOWAS citizens have been caught up in this issue of traders being given quit notice to exit our markets with their retail trade which is, by the law of Ghana, reserved for Ghanaians.

“Our government is doing what it can; sitting with the Ghana Traders Association to ensure that there is that understanding that it has nothing to do with Nigerian and other ECOWAS traders.”

On his part, Onyeama stated: “The minister’s visit was to assure the government and the people of Nigeria that the government of Ghana is on top of the situation and would resolve the issue.”

He further said the Ghanaian minister explained that the outcry had been prompted by nationals from outside Africa who had been installing themselves in the Ghanaian retail business; and not ECOWAS nationals.

He added: "The government of Ghana is not happy about that because they want to be in strict compliance with all their obligations under the ECOWAS Protocol of Free Movement of Persons, Goods and Services.

“They are particularly keen that in no way should it result in any targeting of Nigerians, any xenophobia against Nigerians. So, the government, in fact, the president himself, is personally engaged in addressing the situation.

“For her to travel, to fly here to meet with me for one hour, I think, demonstrated the concern of the Ghanaian government that Nigeria should in no way interpret this as some kind of xenophobia against Nigerians.

“This is also to assure us that the government is very much on top of this and will hopefully resolve the situation very quickly.”

Supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari in the southeast part of Nigeria are currently holding a meeting. It is believed in some quarters the the meeting is to chart ways for the president's victory in the region come 2019 general elections.

The meeting which is ongoing in Owerri, Imo state capital has the governor of the state, Owelle Rochas Okorocha in attendance.

Alhaji Buba Galadima, chairman of the reformed-All Progressives Congress (R-APC), has warned that it would not be easy to unseat President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

He made the comment during the unveiling of the secretariat of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) and the inauguration of the steering committee for the coalition in Abuja on Thursday, August 2, The Nation reports.

NAIJ.com gathers that while addressing the coalition of 39 political parties, Galadima pointed out that it is no small task to take over power from a retired Army general, and urged the group to brace up for tough times ahead.

He said: “Trying to take over power from a retired military general is not a small task. It is a herculean task; but we will try. Over 200 million Nigerians out there are waiting for us. The masses of this country have since shifted their support from the ruling All Progress Congress (APC).

“They will attempt to intimidate, harass as well as bribe and divide us. They have called our people all sorts of names. They will still call several people more names.

“But we are not afraid of being arrested, intimidated or harassed by the EFCC and the ICPC. General Buhari will not be the president to be sworn in, come May 29th, 2019.”

He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a free, fair, credible and transparent election in 2019; and also charged those who are still indecisive, to join the coalition.

The child does that for almost four months hoping to enjoy the holidays only for schools to come up with a scam in the name of holidays lesson.

What exactly do you want to teach that child?

Dear Nigerian parents, summer holiday is a period you allow a child to experience other things in life apart from formal education.

Allow them to travel for the vacation and if you don't have money for vacation, take them to a place where they will learn new skills.

Let them go and learn how to draw, computer coding, how to play football, martial art, learn business, catering, tie and die, learn foreign languages etc

Allow this children to explore life.

Everytime Book book book that is why most of our youths are unemployed because they can't do any other thing apart from white collar job.

One Emeka Ndukwu has been found guilty of money laundering


- The suspect was sentenced to four years in prison

Emeka Ndukwu, 46, a Nigerian-American based in Maryland, has been sentenced to four years in prison for engaging in business e-mail scheme and conspiring to launder more than $900,000 proceeds of scams.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), in a statement, said Ndukwu tricked seven companies in the United States and abroad into wiring more than $900,000 into accounts controlled by various co-conspirators.

“A co-defendant, Chuka Mbonu, 33, of Nigeria, remains at large,” the U.S. authorities said.

FBI said: “Ndukwu, a dual citizen of the United States and Nigeria, pleaded guilty in April 2018 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to one count of money laundering conspiracy.


“He was sentenced by the Honourable Timothy J. Kelly. Following his prison term, he will be placed on three years of supervised release.

“The judge also ordered Ndukwu to pay $791,870 in restitution to the companies.

“Additionally, Judge Kelly ordered Ndukwu to forfeit a 2014 Mercedes-Benz GL450 and to pay a forfeiture money judgment in the amount of $429,848, representing the share of the criminal proceeds that Ndukwu personally obtained”.

According to documents filed at the time of the plea, Ndukwu participated in an ongoing conspiracy from 2013 through 2017 to receive and launder the proceeds of various cyber frauds, primarily arising from business e-mail (“BEC”) compromise schemes.

In a typical BEC scheme, a co-conspirator tricks a company into transferring large sums of money into accounts controlled by others participating in the scheme.

Using fake e-mails, often containing forged sender addresses, co-conspirators impersonate someone connected to the victim company and deceive an employee of that company into wiring funds.

Soon after the wire transfers are completed, the co-conspirators drain the bank accounts and launder the criminal proceeds.

“This particular conspiracy targeted at least seven companies in the United States and overseas, including victims in Texas, Illinois, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, India, Japan, and China.

“The victims were fraudulently induced into sending $916,056 in wire transfers to accounts controlled by Ndukwu and other co-conspirators.

“The funds were then laundered through transactions conducted in Washington, D.C. and other jurisdictions, including layering through shell company accounts and accounts controlled by co-conspirators,” the FBI said.

According to the court documents, Ndukwu used false aliases and forged Nigerian passports to facilitate these schemes, and he used encrypted messaging to communicate with co-conspirators.

Ndukwu was indicted in December 2017 and has been in custody since his arrest that month.

The case is being investigated by the FBI’s Washington Field Office, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Christopher Brown and Michael Marando are prosecuting the case, with assistance from Paralegal Specialist C. Rosalind Pressley, while former Assistant U.S. Attorney Natalia Medina participated in investigating the case

Meanwhile, the zonal police public relations officer (PPRO) Dolapo Badmus has come out to warn ladies who derive so much fun in dating yahoo boys all in the name of living a flashy lifestyle.
