With the embarrassing federal government appointment of Deaf persons into various federal agencies, could this be a clear picture of the *patient dog dieing before getting the fattest Bone* ?? one could argue that with the slow pace of PMBs government which earned him the title BABA GO SLOW. more cases of post humurs appointments are on the way.. |

honourable356: Sign language?? To what end?? Who will I be communicating sign language with??
I will put it at roughly 95% of the citizens doesn't know sign language and I am. convinced that sign language are mainly for people who can't TALK.
Are you assuming that I can't talk or something because I never said that I can't talk nor did I say I say I can't communicate.
Having said the above, care to enlighten me what I would use the sign language for? Who will I be communicating with when I can talk? The governor My brother, there are a thousands and one reasons why you should learn sign language as an alternative source of information having lost your hearing.. In sign language we listen with the eyes and speak with our hands. It's gives you an identity. I understand you said you can speak. And we have different categories of deafness...yours is hard of hearing, but generally it's termed as DEAF. We have lots of Nigeria deaf professors and lecturers who can speak but can hear and they use sign language, working with an interpreter to get feedback or correspondence simultaneously, not necessarily through write ups... I'll urge you to Google the name ,Mandy harvey..she lost her hearing and started learning sign language, So please sign language is not only for those who can't speak..I talk to you about this because I an a sign language interpreter.. thanks. You can pm me for more chats

honourable356: One major difference between SHE and I.....
She was born deaf... but I was not,got my problem at age Eight.
She had access to hearing aids as early in her secondary school days... but I didn't, I could not.. got mine recently 10 YEARS after graduating from university.
Other are..
I stumbled to negative pressure in chasing my dream but she DIDN'T.
I end up being an Economist instead of a Doctor... But she did it, she become a Doctor.
Apart from the above, all she said was a hundred percent correct. she gave an exactly full description of ME (HERSELF) .
I can't help it but admire and respect her greatly even though I don't know her.
May God almighty continue to give her GREATER REASONS to glorify HIM everyday, Amen! Congratulations to you... Do you know sign language?? |

Inspiring Story Of A Paediatrician Born DeafShe is an Intelligent Woman, She is Beautiful, She is Smart, Hardworking and Indefatigable, but guess what? She was born with Severe Profound Sensorineural Hearing Loss.
Yet this woman defied all odds, scaled through all the challenges that comes with such disabilities and made it to the top of the ladder and is enjoying a full, productive life today.
Meet Doctor (Mrs) Ijeoma Nnodim as she takes us through the journey of her life, her challenges, her successes and her vision for the next few years.
Can you tell us about yourself and background?
I am Dr Ijeoma Nnodim. A wife, mother and Paediatrician. I am originally from Ozubulu, Anambra State but was born in Lagos. I am married to a pharmacist from Imo state with two adorable daughters.
I was born with a hearing impairment, in medical terms, Severe-profound sensorineural hearing loss.
I had my nursery education at Imola Day School. I still have a report card from there that says “She does not pay attention in class” (Smiles). Teachers didn’t understand I was hearing-impaired.
I then attended St Leo’s Catholic Private School Ikeja. My Secondary School was at Command Day Secondary School Ikeja.
I got admission to study Medicine and Surgery at College of Medicine, University of Lagos.
I started a Post-Graduate Specialist program at Federal Medical Centre Asaba, Delta State which I have concluded.
Please Explain Sensorineural Hearing Loss to the Layman.
It is Simply Hearing loss is in stages;
Mild
Moderate
Severe
Profound.
What are some of the symptoms to look out for?
Hearing loss is an ”invisible” disability. You won’t know someone has it by just glancing at the person. It is when you try to communicate that you know. Activities of daily living can be affected, going to the market, bank, hospital, church etc can be stressful when you have to communicate with strangers. Asking someone to repeat what he said several times makes them think you are daft!
Symptoms can be noticed in a child such as;
Not responding to sound
Child may appear inattentive, distracted especially if you are not facing the child directly
Such children may also have a degree of speech impairment, not speaking clearly or not even talking at all.
They also tend to keep to themselves a lot.
How was your experience like growing up with such condition?
I became used to people saying I don’t respond when they call. Sometimes some made fun of me.
I learnt how to read lips and if someone wasn’t facing me, I wouldn’t know when I was being spoken to.
It made me withdrawn and I kept to myself a lot. Burying myself in books.
How about your education? How were you able to scale through to the level you are now?
At the beginning the hearing loss wasn’t too bad. I was able to cope with being average. Perhaps I may have done better if the hearing loss was addressed appropriately.
In secondary school I sat in front as much as possible so that I could see the teacher. I also copied notes from class mates.
It was after secondary school that I first had access to hearing aids. It made a lot of difference. However because it was second-hand, the hearing aid got spoilt several times.
I made sure I got to lecture halls very early to sit in front. I also copied notes from classmates.
You have really done well for yourself despite your condition. Far better than most people who do not have any of such challenges. What has been your source of motivation?
My parents, especially my mother have been wonderful.
They encouraged me in school to excel. My mom has cried with me several times in those dark periods when things became difficult because the hearing aid spoilt.
God is the ultimate source of my motivation
What are some of the causes of Severe-profound Sensorineural?
In many cases the cause of hearing loss is not known.
Some are hereditary.
Some are caused by antibiotics. A lot of people indulge in self-medication which is wrong.
Note the following when dealing with a hearing-impaired person
*Don’t shout. Volume is not usually the problem. *Directly face the person so that they can read your lips. *If they don’t know you are talking to them, draw their attention by gently tapping on the shoulder. *Dont exaggerate your facial expression. *Speak clearly and always try to do so in a well-lit place.
How will you describe the journey so far?
It has been a journey of ups and downs.
There have been sad moments but the happy moments predominate.
Any keywords you follow or practice?
There is ability in every disability. I believe that with God nothing is impossible. My life exemplifies that.
I also believe in hard work. There are no excuses to becoming the best you can be. Is there anybody you look up to as a role model?
I admire Professor Beckie Tagbo, a professor of Paediatrics who has achieved so much in the field of Vaccinology. She also balances that with being a Christian.
Also, Prof Seline Okolo and Dr Bertie Ezeonwu who believed in me and spurred me on to become a Specialist in Paediatrics.
What is your word of advice for people out there who are going through one challenge or the other and are thinking they cannot make it?
Do not let anyone put you down. You are smart, intelligent and resourceful.
Pay attention to your education. It is a platform that can elevate you to any height you want.
Where do you hope to be in the Next 5 years?
A professor of Paediatrics, successful wife and mother and a beacon for people living with disabilities. So help me God.
We hope this story inspires you enough. You have no excuse whatsoever to fail in life. If she can make it this far despite her disabilities from childhood which could have been a genuine reason for her to relax and shy away from the challenges of life, then what excuse do you have? I am talking to you. Yes You.
Rise up to your feet and say No to Failure. You can make it no matter the circumstances. By Janice Johnson Pemida http://jayinspire.com/who-says-you-cant-make-it-inspiring-story-of-a-paediatrician-born-with-hearing-impairment/

Communique issued at the end of an emergency meeting of Anambra state Disability Forum (ASDF) Comprising representatives of Disability Community from the 21 LGAs on 16th August 2017 at Awka. The Disability Community has been informed of the attempt been made by some people and certain Politicians to give money to certain Persons with disabilities to criticize the executive Governor of the State, the number one Disability friendly Governor in Nigeria running the most Disability inclusive administration in the country. We also heard that they are making a calculated and pretentious move to dislodge Akpokuedike Global from this enviable position of ''Number one Disability inclusive Governor in Nigeria''.The Disability Community further states that the only way to compete with Akpokuedike for this position is to do and surpass what he has done.At this point, nobody has and nobody can. Therefore, we make it clear that Akpokuedike's position as number one Disability inclusive Governor is incontrovertible for for the following reasons: 1.His Excellency Governor Obiano increased feeding allowance of BASDEN Isulo from #50,000 to #500,000 on assumption of office. 2.BASDEN Isulo which was under disrepair was rehabilitated 3.Building of two accessible rehabilitation centers in Anambra State for the training and empowerment of PWDs 4.Provision of over 500 artificial limbs to persons with Physical Disabilities through Her Excellency's pet project. 6.Recognition of Persons with disabilities for the first time who won medals during Para Olympic games by given cash reward, Promotion and employment 7.Appointment of Senior Special Assistant on Disability matters (a visually impaired who is a legal luminary) which is the first time in the history of Anambra State. 8.Appointment of two Persons with disability into a prestigious rank of Permanent Secretary 9.Appointment of Special Assistant on sign language Communication to give deaf community sense of belonging in Government programs and activities 10.Appointment of SSA on special education and SA on Special schools respectively. 11.Empowerment of over 200 skilled Persons with Disabilities with tools and equipment to sustain them economically. 12.Free transportation scheme to PWDs(red buses) 13.Free Education to Pwds 14.Setting up an advisory committee on the establishment of Disability service commission 15. Directing that all projects executed in Anambra State be Handicapped accessible. 16.Above all, His Excellency Chief Dr.Willie Obiano under this economic recession where some states are finding it difficult to pay salary has the moral courage to employ Ndi Anambra with disabilities with different educational level into State civil service etc Persons with disabilities in Anambra State have not had it so good until APGA Government came on board and as a result we deemed it necessary to unequivocally stated that the votes of the Disability Community in Anambra State are not for sale. We hereby Endorse Akpokuodike, Ogugua Ndi Olusi for second tenure.
Signed; All stakeholders in Disability Community

This narrative by the governor in his attempt to hide the truth is simply laughable! Quite unfortunate this is the defence you have.. .no o e ever believed Nigerians would blow themselves up one-day because everyone felt Nigerians Love their lives, not until Boko Haram started strapping bombs n their waist and blowing it. RisingSun1: FIRST OF ALL,IT HAS NOT BEEN RECORDED IN ANY HISTORY THAT ANY IGBO MAN ATTACKED ANY PLACE OF WORSHIP NOT TO TALK OF A CHURCH. IF YOU HAVE A LINK TO ANY PLS SHOW ME.
Now read the eye witness report of a survivor of the first church attack released in the evening of that day
Written by a Survivor Emeka Ugwu
The police commissioner and Governor Willi Obiano
lied to the public. We all were in the church during the 6am morning mass today, we saw two cars that drove into the church; because it was a Church premises we over looked it and we considered them to be people that came for morning mass(service). But to the surprise of everyone, the car halted at the center of the gate, meaning you cannot close the gate, since it is open already. “The driver came out of the car pretending he was fixing a problem; so everyone still ignored the drama happening outside the premises. “Suddenly, some men came out from the car, fully armed, all in Army uniform. I was lucky because I was sitting at the back, just beside the door, but I was clearly seeing what was happening. The sky was cloudy and everywhere seemed dark; no one saw what they were carrying, whether it was gun, but surely they were fully equipped. “They immediately rushed to the front door. I was too lucky to jump the fence, but before I had jumped, I heard gun shot everywhere in the building. They obstructed the front gate, because for women that is their only route to escape. That was why women were killed more than men. Children were killed as well, many were seriously injured. “After I had escaped, I started making calls to link my church members who were in the church, but they were not picking up; not knowing they were dead already. The gun men were not igbos, because their language were not igbo, the government should stop lying, I heard they said That, they gun Men were flashing touch light on us, but it a lie, because the whole church was so lighted that even from outside you will see who is inside. Even at that, if they were really flashing touch light to know who is their target, those that were killed, are they their target. Like I said before and I will say it again, I was at the back door, I saw all that happened, they were with Army uniform, face covered, standing at the Front door, holding their trigger, and shooting at anything that moves. When the police came, I was waiting for them to ask questions of what happened, so that I will explain, but they were busy taking pictures of the dead ones, without knowing the fact “Not too long after they had gone, I went back to the church. I was shocked with what I saw; my Mother was lying dead! Many people were unconscious but later succumbed to death. “After about one hour of the killings, the Police arrived the church. Two hours later, the Governor, Willie Obiano arrived too. Everyone was shocked, wandering how the perpetrators stormed in Army uniform. Questions began to arise: “Who gave them the Army uniform?” Who gave them the Army car?” Surely jihad is here, and everyone have to defend him/her self. A woman who still survived the mayhem said, “All I could remember is that I was sitting at the front when some people in Army uniform invaded the Church and started shooting at everyone. They just held the trigger and fired at everyone they sighted. I managed to hide under the seat but was shot in the leg. “A boy was shot in head, his brain bursted, and blood spilled everywhere – even at my face.” No more election in Biafra Land starting from Anambra state until a date for referendum is giving us to determine our faiths cos Biafra Nation must be restore back on EARTH again. He jumped the fence, everywhere was dark, blood from the brain spilled on his face.. .come do you think we are kids?? You chose to believe this crap because it aligns with your agitation. |
