Jane has the right to be educated just like any other person...i have said it before and would repeat again that Deaf persons can do anything except hearing..... come 19th Feb. myself and other sign language interpreters would be in Port Harcourt to render sign language interpretation service to Jane as well as other deaf friends who would be with her in the court room......this marginalization has to stop now.the university was supposed to hire interpreters for her hearing impaired students just like universities of ILORIN,JOS,UI,CALABAR and IBADAN...the level of ignorance in our Nigeria today is so alarming...... # justice for jane #

It is quite shameful for a university to act in such a disgraceful manner. Universities like unilorin.unijos, university of ibadan have sign language interpreters to bridge the communication barrier between deaf students and their lecturers.. I am a sign language interpreter and the association of interpreters in Nigeria is sueing the university for denying Jane her rights to education...we have many deaf professionals today who excelled in universities even without interpreters and I know so many that are still in various institutions by virtue of my profession.and the fact is that they are doing very fine.these people are very smart and all they need is encouragement.

@justdulla you just displayed your sense of inhumanity toward persons living with disabilities and I wonder where that would take you. I also observed what the op was saying.channels is delibrately cutting of the interpreter for reason known to them. Which isn't fair. We have millions of deafs who watch that station on a daily basis, why not show compassion towards them.

@hugo with due respect i dont think you really know sign language, and the ethics of interpreting, that message was posted on facebook by the chairman of nigeria national association of deaf, and i had to share it here because my association(association of sign language interpreters of nigeria) acts as an advocate and spokesman of the deaf.the man is unknown to us,and besides he was lost at most time,as he could not sign the words and was busy finger spelling many sentences, which is wrong...knowing signs is different from being a sign language interpreter..this is what happened at the burial of late nelson mandela, and its not the first time its happening here...cheers.

Politics / Deaf Nigerians Protests The Use Of Fake Interpreter At Buhari's Inauguration by sonya4all(m): 4:03pm On May 29, 2015
The deaf community in Nigeria is saying that the sign language interpreter at the inauguration of President Mohammed Buhari is fake. They hardly understand him, thereby excluding persons with hearing impairment from participating equally at the inauguration ceremony. Please help the deaf fraternity to draw the attention of APC led government over this issue.

@ngene. Am one of those nairalnders who always read and seldomly comment. But i have observed you particularly. Your hatred for the person of GEJ.has affected your sense of reasonable decorum. I spit on your useless life. You are one of the supporters of terrorism in nigeria.simply because the power is not with the APC in the central.everything the president does is seen in a bad light...

Politics / Deaf Nigerians Need To Be Carried Along In Politics by sonya4all(m): 5:35pm On Dec 23, 2014
Once again the country is agog with politics and politicians all around are campaigning and making promises if elected into power. However,as a SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER and advocates of the hearing impaired (DEAF). It is very important that the deaf community with a large population of above 10 million.and as citizens of the federal republic of Nigeria with same rights as the hearing population,be carried along in the scheme of events in the political system.this can be achieved by engaging the services of QUALIFIED SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETERS by the various political aspirants irrespective of party affiliations(when campaigning).the Deafs seeks to be informed and enlightened about their manifestoes so as to make the right choices during the general elections. I therefore urge fellow nairalnders to please support this cause and talk to your principals(politicians or party flag bearer you support) on the need to carry the deaf community along.cheers

ONE OF THE REASONS I DISLIKE THESE IGBOS IS BECAUSE OF THEIR DELIGHT IN CORRUPTING WORDS TO SOOTHE THEIR LANGUAGE. IMAGINE IGBANKE NOW CORRUPTED as igbo akiri.. well here is the origin of the name igbanke.

History of Igbanke in Orhionmwon Local government.Igbanke is of the Ika people in DeltaState, Nigeria which constitutes Agbor, and up to the border towns of Alifekede down to Umunede. According to Omoregbe Nwanwene, eight villages constitute Igbanke: these are Umoluah, obiogba, idumuiru, Igbontor, Idumodin, Ake, Olije, and Ottah – all migrated from different places.” It is also the case that the foundation of history of Igbanke indicates poignantly that for many centuries after the different villages of Igbanke had been founded, the Igbankes enjoyed absolute independence because they were not vassals of any other people. Thename Igbanke arose from a combination of (the names of) two villages: Igbontor and Ake, after a thorough historical supremacy was established.Son of King:The government of Igbanke is presided over by the Eze, Enogies,Ogele, Odioweres, Ndichies, Dikens, Okhiolors, and Okhialis. Each of these heads has his jurisdiction The jurisdiction could be stratified into three: The family level, the clan or hamlets andthe villages. At the family level, the Okhilor (he is usually the oldest man in the family) presides. At the village quarters, the Okhilor is the head,Ogele is eldest in a village, while the Eze rules over the entire village. Igbanke is chiefly a patrilineal society and as such its women are seen as performing passive roles. The language spoken in Igbanke is Ika: It is a mixture of Delta Ibo and Oredo languages. Given that Igbanke has a mixed culture, its mode of conflict resolution includes influences from Edo and Delta.

your ignorance knows no bound. face the fact that you presented a false claim of Where Mrs oduah hails from. read the article below and be enlightened before fooling yourself in public.

The kinsfolk of embattled Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, have said they aresurprised at the groundswell of public opinion running against their most prominent daughter. The people of Akili-Ozizor in Ogbaru Local Government Areaof Anamba State told Saturday PUNCH that as far as they were concerned, the minister is the best thing that has happened tothem. They said she has not only regularly empowered young people and widows, the minister has built schools and churches for them. They listed some of the projects she has done for the community to include the building of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, the rehabilitation of the Josephine Oduah Secondary School and the provision of a borehole.Minister of Aviation, Ms. Stella OduahOne of the chiefs, Boniface Osakwe, who is the Onya of Akili-Ozizor, told Saturday PUNCH that Oduah’s philanthropy extends beyond the community to the entire Ogbaru l Local Government Area, spanning all the towns located along the lower bank of the River Niger in Anambra State.Osakwe wondered why she wasbeing persecuted in an office that she will leave one day.“Is it because she is a woman? Other people had been in that office. She will leave one day and another person will occupy it,” Osakwe wondered. The President General of Akili-Ozizor Town Union, Mr. Chukwudi Igwe, simply said Oduah “is a very good woman.”He would not be dragged into commenting on the raging car scandal circulating about the minister. “I don’t know about that. All I know is that she has been helping our people,” he added. One young man from the community, Mr. Chidozie Ogbaekwe, said he was surprised about the car scandal. “If they bought the carsfor her, she will use them now. Any problem with that?” he asked.Ogbaekwe who said many indigent members of the community have benefited fromscholarships from Oduah, however pointed out that the woman was yet to fulfil the promise she made to him aboutbuying him a motorcycle.“I am hoping that when she comes in December, she will give me my own motorcycle,” he said.Oduah’s image looms large over the small and rustic community located on the bank of the River Niger. From Uga Junction, 30km away from Onitsha, where commercial motorcycles ferry people to Akili-Ozizor and other towns in Ogbaru, all the visitors need to tell the cyclists is take me to Stella’s House. Her father, John Oduah, was thetraditional ruler of the community. Her mother was the Omu, a title and office Stellahas since inherited. The only asphalt road veering off the main road in the community leads to her expansive estate, which she shares with the workers of her contracting company. She is currently erecting a huge country home on about two hectares of land, not far from her older estate.Last year, her entire home was submerged in the flood disasterthat ravaged all the riverine communities in Anambra State.http://www.punchng.com/feature/oduah-were-shocked-kinsmen
