2. We shall provide automatic employment to all graduates from universities in Anambra State that are living with disabilities into the State Civil Service. The aim of this initiative is to encourage all our brothers and sisters living with disabilities to embrace education as the key to a better life.
3. We shall work closely with the United Nations Development Programme to provide Training and empowerment programmes for the uneducated physically disabled members of our society.

the above decision needs to be emulated by all state governors and indeed the federal government, because majority of them are without jobs...thumbs up Mr Willie

Yesterday night on my way to get something to eat at a canteen around my area, close to the code of conduct tribunal in Jabi, i saw many people running here and there and because i dont know whats going on i decided to run too.To cut the story short i was cornered along side many other civilians around 10pm by security operatives ( army in different uniforms, NSCDC, police, NDLEA you name it) both males and femalesheavily armed. They marched us all to where we joined others too. More than 300 of us and made us all sit in the mud. I saw them banging doors open and ordering the occupants to come out in their boxers and wrappers, I wasn't with my credentials so I just kept calm. All I know is if they don't get mad to the extentof firing all of us then they will take us to the station where we all will explain ourselves. I was even thinking they did take pictures of us and parade us in the news as terrorists.Change dole! They did separate us into groups and asked for ID. Those who have provided theirs but my ID is at home not far so I just keep my cool. All this while some people were made to roll in the mud. Then my turn.I made gestures to them that I can't hear. When theykeep screaming and pointing a gun at me from every angle then I scream " I AM A DEAF BUT I CANTALK" and that is a Big Mistake I made because after that statement slaps descended on me from every angle. Hitting me in the ass with gun butt.I am not new to security operatives and how they miabehave mostly during the day so I am not surprised. I tried my best to explain that not all Deaf are mute and that they should move to where there is light so I can lipread them one on one or if any of them can communicate in Sign Language, as I'm saying all that slaps and kicks continue and I was only trying to voice out exactly how best they will communicate with me.Then they told me to go and join the others in the mud for which I totally lost my cool and bluntly refused. The slapping is getting to a point I don't even feel it anymore. They either fire me on the spot and let everyone see it and be the witness when they wouldn't even after pointing their riffle in my groin then I offer my hands and told them to handcuff me and take me to a station and allow me contact my lawyer AND STOP ANY ACT THAT WILLMAKE ME SUE THEM FOR HARASSMENT but they wouldn't, because of all the slaps and and kicks from left and right I couldnt memorise the nametag on their uniform.I'm not easily cowed really. I was born and raised in hell on earth. I'm not afraid of a gun because I know so well that gun don't kill people eccept someone pull the trigger. As a matter of fact if one of them agree to take on me on a one on one basis in mortalcombat I did finish him, I don't know how but with the situation they put me through yesterday night if I'm allowed to fight just one I did mess him up badlybut also I understand they have a job to do.They searched me thoroughly and couldn't find any incrimating thing. They asked me how I afford my phone and to unlock it and i told them they need a search warrant in my name before I can unlock it because the phone is my private property which includes sensitive pictures of me and my girl therefore it's an infringement of our fundamental human right to seize my device or force me to unlock it with no reason or go through my phone, told them to follow me home so I can show them my ID but they wouldn't agree. I asked for an interpreter they wouldn't agree all they do is HARASS, SLAP AND KICK ME (AND OTHERS) AS IFTHEIR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT. Told them to write in black and white they wouldn't.Its pathetic that the security operatives in Nigeria would become a dictator because they are carrying gun.Afterall that transpired they eventually allowed me to go around 3am when they don't know what to do with me again i heaved sigh of relief and realized alltheir madness was because their so called Ogas want to drink at a bar around the area....

I came to this conclusion that ;
1. Security operatives in Nigeria don't understand what it means to be a Deaf, Deaf and mute, hard of hearing or an adventitious Deaf. To them once you are a Deaf you are completely Deaf and therefore no sensible sound must come out of your mouth, If you can lipread and then respond properly you are faking the Deafness. I shake my head for Nigeria Security Operatives. We can't continue to condone a culture of sweeping injustice by those funded by our tax money under the carpet.
2. My honesty in voicing out is a mistake. Should have just be voicing nonsense.. therefore it's not every time honesty pay any longer...especially in this country because my being honest with people funded with my money as a tax payer allowed them to harrass me. Not even my dad can slap me at my age lailai.
3. Nigerian security operatives don't know what signlanguage means at all.
4. There is no department or provisions for Nigerian security operatives to process any Deaf in a proper process according to the rule of law.
5. Never to go out again without having my ID on me and to always make sure I hold a torch light at night.... just imagine.
6. There should be a massive psychiatric evaluationon every single gun-wielding-gbana-addict-operative who manage to wear a uniform.
7. The Nigerian Deaf Body need to create some form of awareness for this security operatives on how to handle anyone who happens to be Deaf. Let's assume I was handcuffed with my hand at the back how the hell am I supposed to sign?I am shattered. I feel bad. I mean the things you are subjected to for trying your best to be proud of Nigeria. On the plus side I'm hoping I can one day shoot a small awareness film on this and how to make it easier for the police to arrest and prosecute a Deaf who is against the law......

Education / Jane Ottah Expelled By RSUST For Hearing Challenges Returns To School by sonya4all(m): 9:18pm On Jul 21, 2016
The student who was expelled by the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, in 2015, for having “speech and hearing challenges” has been allowed to return to school.
Jane Ottah, 28, who dragged the university before a Rivers State High Court for expelling her over claims that she had disabilities, agreed to an out-of-court settlement with the University on Tuesday.
Ms. Ottah had demanded the university to pay her N20 million as damages in addition to providing the necessary support services and facilities to aid her learning. She also asked the court for a perpetual injunction restraining the university or their agents from discriminating against her in any way.
“I won the case, I’m going back to school,” Ms. Ottah informed PREMIUM TIMES in a Whatsapp message minutes after the court’s decision.
Rotimi Oguneso, the lawyer who took up the case after it was reported by PREMIUM TIMES, confirmed that the matter had been settled.
“We filed terms of settlement in court and same was adopted, the court recognized it as a settlement and it’s binding on all parties,” Mr. Oguneso, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, said over the phone on Wednesday.
“So the university will take her back, she’s resuming in the next academic session.”
Blessing Didia, the school’s Vice Chancellor, also confirmed to PREMIUM TIMES that they had agreed to settle out of court, but insisted that Ms. Ottah “was never dismissed ab initio”.
Benedict Ottah, the student’s father, said they agreed to the University’s plea to settle out of court because he wanted his daughter back in school
“We were in court on the 19th of February, the first sitting, their (university) lawyer pleaded for settling out of court,” Mr. Ottah told PREMIUM TIMES on Wednesday.
“Then, on the 11th of April, Rotimi (Oguneso) and Femi Falana met them, they agreed on that settlement, not on monetary basis but on educational basis that my daughter shoul resume back to school this September.”
While expressing gratitude to PREMIUM TIMES, Mr. Ottah said the school agreed to assist his daughter settle back in school, as well as carry forward the school fees paid and registrations done in 2014 to September this year.
“She will not be victimized again,” he said.
“The issue is, I didn’t go for monetary compensation, I just forgot about that, let my daughter resume her school.”
PREMIUM TIMES had, in November last year, reported how the University handed a letter of expulsion to Ms. Ottah after it claimed it had observed that she was “medically challenged and have hearing and speech difficulties.”‎
“Since the University does not have special communication facilities, the Vice-Chancellor has directed that you be de-registered on health grounds‎,” the school registrar’s letter to Ms. Ottah read.
“I am in the circumstance, directed to inform you that you have been de-registered on health grounds with immediate effect. You are therefore advised to hand over all University property(ies) in your possession to your Head of Department and thereafter leave the campus.”
The letter was dated 30th January, 2015.
The University’s action was widely condemned by lawyers and human rights activists who described it as “a crude treatment” for a person with disability.
Ms. Ottah, who was in her first year in the Department of Educational Foundation, was writing the semester’s examination when she received the letter.
She was admitted into the university in September 2014.
Before securing admission, Ms. Ottah had passed her West African Examination Council (WAEC) examination with three distinctions and five credits; scored 205 in the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exam; and passed the university’s post-UME test.
Ms. Ottah described the out-of-court settlement with the university as “not bad”.
“Half bread is better than none.
“My education is very important to me, and I thank Jehovah Ebenezer, the tear wiper has done it for me.”

my thoughts exactly so you are trying to assert that Emefiele is serving as an Igbo as well as kachikwu, and it goes down well with you,so why crying about being marginalised and agitating for Biafra....go and research what the position of Ikas was during the war...maybe that will awaken your idea

@ the emboldened, Delta state has no constitution, the official language we have in Delta are 5.

Igbo, Urhobo, Ijaw, Isoko and Itsekiri. There are no other official distinction from this. I respect your personal stand on this.

But there has been no official effort by the Obi or his elders from Ika to carve out a separate tribe (not ethnicity) from Anioma position which is a subgroup of Igbo.

It's been a while I watched the Delta TV evening news but it's always Igbo for Delta north , Urhobo, Itsekiri, Isoko and Ijaw respectively. There's no different one designated for Ika

Another bunch of lies, go back and do your research, we have news bulletins and broadcast in Ika language here in Delta state TV...sorry for you

first i would want to say that this issue had been trashed a long time ago on several threads in culture section, but because of some unpleasant things am seeing here i want to make it known like igboid said for the benefits of young people who wants to know about themselves in future via the internet,ANIOMA is a coinage of 4 different ethnicities namely,Aniocha,Ndokwa,Ika and Oshimili.with the last letters MA.to make it pronouncable, also Anioma is not listed in delta state constitution as an IGBO ethnic group like ugomba or someone mentioned here,i speak for myself and majority of IKAS,that we are not igbos though some of the other ethnicities might accept being called igbo, but am here for ika.and i respect their wish, but what annoys me is the immaturity being exhibited here by the some people by way of insulting people who wish to be identified by a particular name or tag obviously for reasons best known to them.this should not be so...i am proudly an IKA man.and that should be respected...cheers.

Igboid:

Fair enough. Atleast you are intelligent and wise enough to not sttart making generalized statements.
On the marriage stuff, it's same even in SE, some towns would prefer marrying only from amongst themselves, for example the Ohafia and Abriba of Abia state are known for that, they hardly give their daughters away to any other non Ohafia/ Abriba clan.
And the ancient Igbos said: Uzo di nma, aga ya ugboro ibuo ( If a road is good, it will be passed through twice).
Families in SE that had bad experiences giving their daughters out to a particular Igbo clan or marrying a lady from a particular Igbo clan usually make it as a policy never to marry from that particular clan.
Ikas are just ignorant of the different clans in SE, so would obviously classify all Igbos as one, once they have a problem with marrying from SE.
The Aniochas and Oshimilis seem to understand the Igbo clan divisions in SE due to the fact they have come to have most of us live amongst them in large numbers, this is responsible for their better understanding of the nature of Igbo nation than the rest of the Anioma groups and inturn the ease of their acceptance of the Igbo tag.
The average Ika and Ukwuani knows next to nothing about the complexity of the Igbo clans in SE. They see SE as one big monolithic area, the Oshimilis and Aniocha know better.
you are more ignorant, its written all over your posts

Good evening. Your effort is highly appreciated. You see most hearing people in nigeria ridicule we deaf/HOH. Please Can you kindly make the full list of universities/polytechnics in Nigeria that accept hearing impaired students? I believe this will be an helpful information for applicants like me who is impaired.

. you are welcome, deaf persons can apply to any school of their choice if truely the federal government is sincere in their inclusive education campaign.however those schools i wrote there have sign language interpreters to bridge the communication gap in the class...it is also important to note that deaf persons can excel in their academics even in situations whereby there are no interpreters as they can get hand outs from the lecturers or get their friends to take notes for them.i know many deaf who graduated from UNILAG etc as well as those still in universities and polytechnics and they are coping fine.its all about determination..we pray that jane gets justice so that all these discriminations would end..where are u based...you can send me a PM so we talk better.cheers
