http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2016/02/21/we-never-congratulated-david-mark-apc/

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied issuing a congratulatory message to winner of Benue South senatorial rerun election, David Mark.

In a statement by Mai Mala Buni, National Secretary APC, the ruling party said: “The attention of the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to some false online publications reporting that the party has congratulated David Mark, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Saturday’s Benue South Senatorial rerun election,” the statement read.

Adding that, “The APC has not issued any congratulatory message on the Benue South Senatorial rerun election.”

“The “congratulatory message” purportedly obtained from a twitter handle, “@APCNigeria” did not emanate from the party. The purported twitter message itself is not credited to any APC official.”

“The general public is advised to ignore the false message.”

“The APC reiterates that only the National Chairman and the National Secretary officially speaks for the party.”

PoliticsNigerian Military, Police, Others Can’t Find Tompolo – EFCC by sosanova(op): 8:21pm On Feb 19, 2016
The Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission Friday told a
federal judge that the
whereabouts of Government
Ekpemupolo, a former militant
leader, were unknown.
Festus Keyamo, counsel to the
EFCC, said a combined team of
Nigerian police and military
officers had been combing the
creeks for weeks without success.
The judge had issued a warrant
for the arrest of Mr. Ekpemupolo
(also known as Tompolo) on
February 8 after he shunned
repeated invitations to appear
before the EFCC for questioning.
Last week, the commission
declared the ex-militant wanted.
“We wish to inform the court that
the warrant of arrest that this
court issued in respect of the first
defendant (Mr. Ekpemupolo) has
not been executed despite the best
efforts of all the security agents in
this country,” Mr. Keyamo told
the judge on Friday.
“Every security agent in this
country is involved in the search
for the first defendant. What is
unfolding is something that has
never been seen before in this
country for a very long time.”
Mr. Ekpemupolo and Patrick
Akpobolokemi, the former
Director General of the Nigerian
Maritime Administration and
Safety Agency, NIMASA, are
accused of a multibillion naira
fraud at the agency.

Others charged alongside them are Global
West Vessel Specialist Ltd, Odimiri Electrical
Ltd, Kime Engozu, Boloboere Property and
Estate Ltd, Rex Elem, Destre Consult Ltd,
Gregory Mbonu, and Captain Warredi
Enisuoh.
At the last court sitting, Tayo Oyetibo, who
represented Mr. Ekpemupolo prayed the court
to set aside an order of substituted service
which the judge had earlier granted against
his client.
In a short ruling, Justice Ibrahim Buba
dismissed the application and renewed a
warrant order it had earlier issued on the
former militant leader.
“Up till today the first defendant has refused
to honour the invitation of the court to appear
before it,” the judge had said.
“The whole essence of service is to make the
person aware of charges facing him. By
bringing an application before the court, the
first defendant had become aware of the
charge before the court.”
On Friday, no lawyer announced appearance
for Mr. Ekpemupolo, a situation the
prosecution noted was disrespectful to the
court.
“Having registered his appearance at the last
sitting, the very senior counsel (Mr. Oyetibo)
ought to have come to withdraw his
appearance,” Mr. Keyamo said.
With Mr. Ekpemupolo still at large, Mr.
Keyamo moved a motion for an adjournment
to enable the prosecution separate the charges
“so we can go on with the other accused
persons”.
The prosecution counsel also filed an
application urging the court to order the
seizure of all identified properties belonging
to Mr. Ekpemupolo.
The assets listed include property at No. 1
Chief Agbamu Close DDPA Extension Warri
(Effurun), Delta State; all properties of
Muhaabix Global Services Ltd; a River Crew
Change Boat named MUHA – 15; the property
known as “Tompolo Dockyard”, by the end of
Enerhen Road, Effurun, Warri.
Others are a property known as “Tompolo
Yard”, at the end of Chevron Clinic Road, next
to Next Oil, Edjeba, Warri; the Diving School
at Kurutie, at Escravos River; the property
known as “Tompolo House” at Oporaza Town,
opposite the Palace; and any other property
discovered by the Economic And Financial
Crimes Commission, moveable and
immoveable, belonging to the first accused
person.
“This application is to further secure the
attendance of the first accused person. The
law says that the court can order the
confiscation of his properties until he
appears,” Mr. Keyamo said.
“Any third party can bring an application
later, but we have intelligence reports that
those properties and companies belong to the
first accused person.
“If he fails to appear within three months, the
federal government will auction off all the
assets.”

In his ruling, the judge granted the order for
the seizure of all the listed properties and
adjourned till March 22 for the separation of
the charges on the defendants.

PoliticsMuslim League Appeals To President Buhari To Convene Summit On Naira by sosanova(op): 1:59pm On Feb 11, 2016
The Muslim League for Accountability
(MULAC) on Thursday urged President
Muhammad Buhari to convene a summit of
financial and economic experts to proffer
solution to the depreciation of the naira.
The Executive Director of MULAC, Malam
Yusuf Arrigasiyyu, told the News Agency of
Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna that many
Nigerians were seriously disturbed about the
continued depreciation of the Nigerian
currency.
Arrigasiyyu said that the convening the
summit of economic and financial experts
on the Nigerian economy would provide a
platform for stakeholders to rub minds and
proffer solutions to stop the naira slide.
He said that the rate at which the naira was
depreciating was unacceptable.
“We are seriously disturbed with the current
economic situation of the country,
specifically the continued depreciation of the
Nigerian currency, “the naira”.
“We are afraid that if urgent step is not
taken, Nigerians will be subjected to
unnecessary and untold hardships.
“We commend President Buhari’s efforts in
the fight against corruption and call on all
Nigerians to give him the necessary support.
“Corruption is evil, we must not support it;
rather it is condemnable,’’ the MULAC
director said. (NAN)

PoliticsDickson To Sylva: I Told You, With All Your Gragra You Will not win the Election by sosanova(op): 11:19am On Jan 13, 2016
Governor Seriake Dickson has said never
again will Bayelsa State harbor criminals
and rogue elements as contestants for
power.
“Going forward, the Bayelsa political space
will only be for those who have the
intellectual rigour to trade their fine ideas in
exchange for votes, not bullets. Our society
must groom new set of leaders who will
only access power through their superior
ideas to regenerate society rather than
through the barrel of the gun”, he stated.
The governor who spoke through his
Director of Publicity of his Campaign
Organisation, Jonathan Obuebite, shortly
after the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) declared him winner
said that the victory was important because
it came the way of the PDP even in the face
of intimidation, tyranny, threats and violent
attacks. He observed that “despite the
challenges, democracy won.”
Obuebite said, “We want to use this
opportunity to sincerely thank all Bayelsans
for their doggedness and patriotism because
even in the face of such terrible intimidation
and violence decided, out of their own
volition, they came out to re-elect and return
the Countryman Governor to office for the
next four years. We are grateful for your
remarkable decision as expected in a
democracy.
“The people have spoken and we are indeed
grateful. It’s your victory, you the good
people of Bayelsa State. Without doubt, a
new dawn is here. Bayelsans, through their
uncommon courage have defeated tyranny
and oppression by voting for the
continuation of the restoration of our dignity
and pride as amply demonstrated through
their votes.”
He noted that the victory was a sweet one
which signposts the end of an era of a
political class whose stock in trade was
“violence, brigandage, militancy and
bloodletting as the only means of accessing
power.”
Obuebite condemned the sheer scale of
violence and mayhem that characterized the
2015 governorship election in the state,
saying it will go down in history as one with
the highest record of casualties.
While calling for the arrest and prosecution
of the perpetrators of the reported killings,
the governor also condoled with the families
of those who lost their loved ones. He
dedicated his victory at last Saturday’s
rerun poll to the people of Bayelsa State
who, he said, in the face of intimidation and
violence perpetrated by the opposition camp
still turned out enmasse to vote for him.
Also speaking after his victory, Dickson
thanked the electorate for their gallantry in
ensuring his re-election for another four
years, but said there would be no
celebration because of the number of lives
that have been lost.
In another statement signed by his Chief
Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson,
the governor vowed that he would do
everything possible to identify the
perpetrators and bring them to justice. He
promised to work tirelessly to justify the
mandate given to him as he had tried to “do
in the first four years to almost universal
acknowledgement and approbation.”
He described his victory as triumph for
democracy, adding that there would be no
celebration because of the people that lost
their lives during the election, The Punch
reports. Dickson, who promised to bring the
killers to book also restated his commitment
to work tirelessly to justify the mandate
given to him. Dickson, who extended a hand
of fellowship to his political opponents said
election had been won and lost, noting that
there is a need for Bayelsans and the
challenge of improving their material
condition remained his focus.
He said, “Sadly, however, the elections were
conducted at the price of several lives lost
and mayhem visited on many communities
by mindless brigands clearly suborned by
those who do not respect the democratic
process and have equally scant regard for
the sanctity of lives and property.
Unfortunately, we can’t celebrate because
people have died.

But the APC candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva
told the governor that he was merely over
what the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) and the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) colluded to deny
him and the APC victory at the poll. While
reacting to the outcome of the election,
Sykva announced that he will seek redress
at the election petition tribunal.
Outlining his reasons for kicking against the
conduct of the election, he said, “I am sure
you are aware of my complaints about INEC
in Bayelsa. I had initially complained about
the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC),
Baritoh Kpagih and the Administrative
Secretary of INEC.I said it repeatedly and
even put it to writing.”
“Usually before a general election, the INEC
officials are switched. But they choose to
keep the PDP rigging machine. This was the
same rigging machine that returned former
President Goodluck Jonathan 100 per cent.
We felt these people could not conduct a
free and fair election. All our cry fell on deaf
ears.
“Even the REC descended into the arena by
accusing a faceless candidate of offering
him bribe. A REC that was arguing with a
candidate is allowed to conduct an election.
This is strange. From the beginning, INEC
was playing a game. Materials from the
nearest communities were deployed first,
while those in farthest communities were
sent last. They didn’t not send materials to
Ezetu,Azuzuama,Ukubie,Foropa and
Koluama early. What they did was to
frustrate the election process because they
had a lead.
“And also the outcome could have been
declared inconclusive with outstanding
votes of 53,000 cancelled. They went
against the laws. They plotted against the
APC. Anywhere APC won,they cancelled.
They rigged the distribution of materials.
Even the vehicles used were provided by the
State Government.
“What we agreed was that the INEC should
move materials from the Registration Area
Centre (RAC) but they changed it to units
and communities. While our people were
waiting at the RAC,they never knew the
whereabout of the election materials. By the
time they knew, they could not enter their
communities due to armed men deployed by
the PDP.”
Sylva described the victory as an alleged
“result of collation between INEC and PDP”,
adding that in any free and fair election, the
APC will win. He said though the APC will
seek redress in the Election Petition Tribunal,
the decision to declare a winner is an open
display of impunity, as well as “a desperate
attempt to take over the state.”
On the alleged failure by the INEC to declare
the re-Run poll inclusive due to the
noticeable differences between the number
of cancelled votes of 53,000 and the lead
secured by Governor Dickson of PDP at
46,000, Sylva said the INEC violated the law.
Sylva said, “the law did not say that the
supplementary election can not be declared
inconclusive. The law has been turned down
and it is not right .It was due to the fact that
the INEC is desperate to announce the
result. I did not just write the petition.”
He also noted with concern the refusal of
the Chief Returning Officer, Professor Zane
Akpagu to rule on complaints and petitions
by the APC on alleged rigging and other
irregularities. “The panel said they don’t
have power to cancel results in the Local
Government levels,But they invoked such
power to cancel the Southern Ijaw
election.Suddenly they did not have such
powers anymore.”

PoliticsSylva Went Clubbing, Drinking After Loss At Bayelsa Polls by sosanova(op): 10:27am On Jan 12, 2016
Restoration Campaign Organisation, a Peoples Democratic Party group has claimed that the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Timipre Sylva, did not feel bad after losing at the polls because he went clubbing and drinking.

In a statement issued by the Director of Publicity of the PDP campaign organisation, Jonathan Obuebite, he said in spite of what APC supporters may say, the APC candidate did not “seemingly feel really bad” about the outcome of the election, claiming that Sylva went clubbing after the results were declared.

This, he said, did not suggest he was “terribly affected”, adding that, his action suggested instead that he was not expecting to win, after all.

“Sylva after losing the election went clubbing and drinking Hennessy with friends in all the three clubs he attended yesterday (Sunday). How can a man who just lost election attend a club if he was expecting to win?

“He was buying drinks for everybody. So many Bayelsans found his behaviour strange, particularly after participating in an election in which no less than fourteen deaths were recorded and several others nursing various life threatening injuries”, Obuebite stated.
