Lol,what are these dubious Binis from that tiny land even saying for goodness's sake ?! You have no idea the kind of people you're dealing with; we are Yoruba,Omo Alade,Omo kaaro a jireebi ! You can't twist our history,no,it's impossible!

Now,let me educate you a bit, afterall Oranmiyan,my progenitor was seconded to your land,"Ile Ibinu" to organise you and ensure orderliness among you hot-heads,Bini people. So,it won't be out of place for me to educate a poorly informed Bini man like you!

Now,all Obas in Yoruba land have their different individual tittle and appellation which is derived from their respective family's history and lineage called panegyric - "Oriki or Ooki" in Yoruba language. This tells the history of the Oba, his domain and his people. This is why you will see tittles such as "Timi of Ede land" "Ataoja of Osogbo","Ewi of Ado Ekiti" " Awujale of Ijebu " "Olubadan" "Ooni" "Alaafin" etc. Each tittle tells the real story behind the crown. Are you getting it,Bini man ? Oba is a collective word for all and or any king in Yoruba land.

Now, let's talk about Oba of Benin. Before the arrival of Oranmiyan were the Ogisos who reigned and ruled over your land and it's people. Ogiso is a Bini word. Now,when Oranmiyan,a non Bini man,was to take over as a ruler over Bini people,he had no connection with the land or its people,so he couldn't have given himself a native tittle as it was the norm in his native Yoruba land ! He therefore had to adopt the tittle "Oba of Benin" because he knew that's the ordinary tittle for any king in Yoruba land. He couldn't have named himself "Ogiso of Benin" because he was not a bini man !

The word "Oba" itself as a Yoruba word is coined from "OBAtala" now a deity, who was the first Oba in Yoruba land and the first to wear a crown. This can be found in IFA corpus which predates even Oduduwa himself ! IFA is an indigenous Yoruba deity which is being worshipped all over the world today, including at the palace of Oba of Benin.

Note as well that words such as "Balogun","Iya Oba","Asipa","Olori","Oyegun",etc are deeply rooted in Yoruba language and not in anyway Bini words. They have no meaning ordinarily in your native bini's tongue ! Yoruba culture influenced Bini culture greatly and it can be seen everywhere in Benin, especially inside the palace of Oba of Benin.

You guys from that side are just small fries, trust me; E kere si number Yoruba !

Stop spewing ignorance!

When the first Oba of Benin ascended the throne, there was nothing like Oba of Benin.

His title was "Omo NOba N'Edo Uku Akpolokpolo"

It was outsider who found his title too mouthful that shortened it to Oba of Benin.

At this time there was no known king in Yoruba land using the Oba title.

So Oranmiyan never adopted any Oba of Benin title because as at the time Oranmiyan was in Benin, The people were not known as Benins. The word Benin is what outsiders call people that speak Edo language. There is no were in Edo culture where we call ourselves Benin. It came from outsiders and become common.

Now before you go the "ile-ibinu" route, ask yourself what's the meaning of Yoruba.

I guess you know that the word "Yoruba" was given to you by Hausa/Fulani traders and it means "cunning".

Do whatever you like with this information i have given you.

At least you are not blind to see the etimology of Oba in Yoruba and I expect you to do the same with your Benin trash, I dare you to don the same, you won't be able to do because Oba has no meaning in Benin language except red or light, so in short you and all Benin are what we Yoruba call Oba awon osinwingrin

Before you write rubbish...ask yourself what's the meaning of "Oba N'Edo Uku Akpolokpolo"

Like i told you, it was outsiders that shortened it to Oba of Benin.

The title " Oba N'Edo Uku Akpolokpolo" has a specific meaning together.

Go find the meaning and then stop asking stupid questions

Even the name of their people is Ibinu. Another Yoruba word. The Portugese turned it to Benin.

And do you know where the name "Yoruba" come from?

Let me give it to you now.

The name “Yoruba” was originally given to the Oyo people by the Fulani or the Hausa; it is interpreted to mean “cunning” (Bascom 1969:5). The word “Yoruba,” used to describe a group of people speaking a common language, was already in use in the interior of the Bight of Benin, probably before the sixteenth century.

So before you insult Benins and say it was ile-Ibinu...

Ask yourself what's Yoruba.

I've never seen someone as clueless as you Edo clown, everywhere you see Oba in Yoruba it means king e.g Oba were meAnd kings of mad,Oba awon ole means king of thief yet you are arguing that oba is edo word even when Oba mean red or light in Edo.what you fail to realise is Oba is general meaning for king in Yoruba land and all kings have special title that has to do with their town,e.g ooni of ife,Alake of Egba and awujale of ijebu, those are their titles while their position is Oba,yours is Ogiso and it's in your dictionary till today that Ogiso is ruler in Edo state.tell me what king is called in Yoruba land before they adopted king title king from Edo according to your warp and stupid logic, just as I told you that your Ogiso was Ogiso,is Ogiso and will remain Ogiso because he's not fit to be called Oba

Stop writing like you are shouting. Some of you just come online to spew ignorance. And when you are schooled, you get angry.

The Ogiso dynasty has long been ended.

The Oba title of the Oba of Benin is a shortened form.

The full title of the traditional ruler of Benin is " Oba N'Edo Uku Akpolokpolo".

Because it is long and mouthful to people from other tribes, it was shortened to Oba of Benin.

The first traditional ruler to be called Oba is the Oba of Benin.

If you have proof that says otherwise bring it.
Dont bring those revisionism that were written by Yorubas starting from about 100 years ago.

We need proofs dating back from the 1700s when the traditional ruler of Benin has been called "

Oba N'Edo Uku Akpolokpolo"

The word Oba as a king is Yoruba word, benin cant continue stealing our things, they even stole one of us Ogun and turn him to their jesus.

There were no traditional rulers in Yoruba land over 100 years ago with the Oba title.

The only traditional ruler in Nigeria with the Oba title over hundreds of years ago is the Oba of Benin.

Reason that and understand what that means.

How does this change the fact that Oba of Benin was the first traditional ruler in Nigeria to have the Oba title?

How does this thing you uploaded disprove that Eko was ruled by the Benins.

Their traditional rulers were called Ooni, Alafin and the rest.

The only traditional ruler with the Oba title was the Oba of Benin.

The "Oba" title is a shortened form of his full title

Isn't the word ' Oba ' more than enough to start with , with reality reality and no historian record of the word ' Oba ' in Edo language? Lool grin

No historical what?

The word Oba is as old as Edo language itself.

Its even used in daily salutations.

The Obas in Yoruba land are a very recent thing.

Before 1930, there was no known Oba in Yoruba land.

We know Ooni of Ife, we know Alafin of Oyo and other titles but no Oba.

But the Oba of Benin have been using that title for hundreds of years even before the white men came.

What does Idu mean in Edo language?

Idun is a prefix in Edo language . And means an area or a quarters. Its usually added to another word such as the name of a people so it now means an area where certain people are living or dwelling.

What's the meaning of idumagbo in Benin?

- Idu means dove in Benin. Magbo has no meaning. That's about it.

Whereas
- Idu means station or settlement in Yoruba language.
Arogbo are what Yoruba call Ijaws. They are called Arogbo in Ondo state till date. Idu- Arogbo later shortened to Idumagbo.

Meaning of Idumagbo in Yoruba: Station of the Ijaw fishing community.

Get that into your thick skull.

You are trying to be clever by half.

Idun in Edo language means settlement there are many places in Benin carrying the prefix " idun".

Aside Lagos Island wherd we have the Benin settlers, which other place in Lagos has streets carrying "Idu"?

We are talking of Lagos Island you are bringing Ijaw and Ekiti.

Was there any record of Ondo settlers in Lagos island?
Politics / Re: Benin People Found Lagos — Oba of Benin by sotall(m): 4:50pm On Nov 27, 2023

History revisionists.

Eko is derived from the word Oko meaning farm.
Ereko = Farm district 😂

The Yoruba ‘Ìdú’ is a contraction of the Yoruba term ‘Ìdúó’ or ‘Ìdúró’.

Ìdúó (‘standing-posture’, etc.) also refers to place, viz. a ‘station’.

As such, ‘Ìdú-[ì]gànràn’ means ‘the pepper* settlement’.

And there are other places with the same prefix within Yorubaland like:

Idu-Jimoti in Oyo state, Idu-Soko in Osun state, among others.
——
* ìgànràn=pepper•

Whereas in Benin language, idu means a dove.

So what's the meaning of idumagbo in Yoruba language?

No matter how you guys twist all these.

You csn never wipe out Benin influence from Lagos.

Virginity is for a healthy relationship with God, not to guarantee anything in marriage. But people think it is just for pride in marriage.

Now, let me say the bitter truth. Any person who chooses to marry someone that is so committed to the hip-hop industry is not decent in thoughts and actions. So, I am not surprised by this guy's wife. Argue with your keyboard.

But virginity should not be underrated. It is not easy for an adult to keep virginity. A virgin with a bad character is better than a person who equally has a bad character and was deflowered before marriage. A well-mannered virgin is better than a well-mannered person that has been deflowered outside marriage. Please, I am not talking about those who lost their virginities through rape.
Whis this statement missing " A girl without virginity but good character is better than a girl with virginity and bad character "
