Well no matter the similarities between men and women, we are still miles apart in thoughts and character.

First thought would be that maybe the relationship isnt perfect. Can there be a perfect relationship? I think so but even with the idea of a perfect relationship, a high demographic of men have still be known to cheat. So could it be that the men cheat because they dont love their wives? If you dissect a conversation with guys asking this question, the answer would be "I can never love another woman more, no matter my girls shortcomings" and clearly you would see its true.
So then the baffling question? How is it that a man who loves his wife/girl and is in a relationship may still cheat? A few things a local research has brought up:

1. He may do it just to please his male ego. He will never give up his love life or any other thing valuable in doing so.
2. Its a norm for him. It means he had wrong role models who have even advised him to do such just to feel like he belongs.
3. He does as a sport ie because he feels he can get away with it (makes no sense though but a small sect of people do this).
4. He does it because there is something lacking or something he fears he cant reveal about his sexual preference at the time.
5. He does it because he feels everyone does same. So the fear of social isolation makes him do same.

Now alot of women may read this and be alarmed but for a man its like driving a car to work. He never allows it affect any other normal day to day activity in his life. So he doesnt see any negatives and he believes even when doing those wrongs that he retains the best of intentions for his spouse . How wrong? A woman most times never sees it this way. It's a betrayal and a bridge of trust. Indeed men and women are wired differently.

So what should one do if you are cheating?
Simple. Please stop it! The hurt it would cause your partner is immeasurable compared to the little thrill you think you can catch from those few moments of fun. I mean it, really, stop! I always say that the truth is like a very social guy "It will always come out".

So what do you do if you are caught cheating?

1. Come clean with all the details. Some people may suggest you hide some details but i dont support that unless you feel the information provided may be used against you or cause your spouse more emotional harm, otherwise i suggest you pour out as much as you can remember ( I know this would not be the male preference but its the best way).
2. Your relationship will end, but don't be scared as this is not entirely a bad thing. If you both are willing to work at it then a new relationship will form which would be much better than the old. The second thing that can happen sadly is that it may end completely but i dont support that, i think everything sanctioned by God is worth the effort to resolve any dispute (unless there is threat to life)
3.Trust will have to be built from scratch under the stiffest possible conditions. So you would need to work twice as hard to get half as much done just to convince her that you are willing to make it work.
4. Unexpected and sudden burst of tears, accusations and silence. It can be arrgghhh�� but take it easy as It shows your partner is healing, give them time and pray for them to heal quick enough.
5. You could see a specialist/mentor or advise one for her to help out with this.
6. Be very patient as this healing, if you choose to stay together will take time. Sometimes she may never heal.
7. Make sure you stay away from the party you cheated with.

Tips for ladies:
1. Guys believe they can cheat and it doesnt affect their love life, shockingly this is true. Dont ask, they are just built somehow.
2. Most guys believe its an acceptable norm to cheat passed down to them from their parents, especially in the African context. They believe that even if a case of cheating is presented to their inlaws they will win the case and sadly it seems true in alot of cases.
3. Most guys WILL NEVER leave their wives for a side chick (with clear eye sha).
4. Most guys have no idea the pain cheating can cause a spouse. They really dont in honesty, if they did they wouldnt risk it.
5. A lot of men go into marriages expecting tolerance from their wives to cheat because they are a product of homes where such was or is practiced.
6. When a guy admits his guilt, he really wants to work things out. Its not a comfortable state for him and he has little patience to maintain it so encourage him sometimes too rather than continuous bashing for his wrongs.

Note: Women are emotional and give alot in a relationship, so when its broken it affects their whole being. Men will always be boys but we we have emotions too and feel some of your pain. Its in the interest of both parties to stay joyful and keep their commitments and vows. I pray we all heal, live and love.
