Literature/Writing AdsDear Writer, Here's Your Chance to Improve Your Fiction by SpaghettiThots(op):
Your favourite footballer is not known for belly-dancing. Even that footballer will not try to play every position on the field of play. Excellence blossoms when you stick to one thing. No matter the field, professionals eventually realise they should be known for one thing alone. Writers are not exempt from this. That is the reason I am talking to you.

Even as a writer, you need to put your eggs in one basket. Fiction is a great place to begin. It's also possible that you've struggle with other forms of writing; fiction might be where the stars align for you and we'd like to be your guide. The Writing++ Academy is the consummate training ground for writers - untrained and professional.

Literature/Writing AdsCreating Writers From The Ground Up: The Fiction Edition by SpaghettiThots(op): 12:09pm On Jan 18, 2021
Good morning, Great Folks,

I recently shared with you, our plan to make better writers across multiple niches. We ran a pilot where we covered various technical niches such as Blockchain, Cryptocurrencies, Fintech, Forex, News, and Real Estate.

We are happy to report that while we learned more about the handicap of the average Nigerian writer, that training ended well.

I also mentioned that our training programs will happen on a consistent rolling basis. Despite the urge to rest on our oars, we are picking up right where we left.

Therefore, we are happy to announce the next iteration of The Writing++ Academy.

This edition will focus on the following aspects of CLEAN FICTION shocked cool:

1. Contemporary Romance
2. Western Historical Romance

If this is something that interests you, and you realise you can use some improvement in your ability to write fiction, I'm only a WhatsApp DM

Literature/Writing AdsFaqs On The Writing++ Academy by SpaghettiThots(op):
Client Chips
To know a good writer, you have to first learn good writing.

We recently introduced the Writing++ Academy: https://www.nairaland.com/6333262/introducing-writing-academy. It's not your usual come and get work program. With a curriculum designed for both clients and writers, we felt the need to clear the air on several issues:

Question
I have a couple of questions.

1. Where does the training take place.

2. The two articles a day, are they free samples?

3. Would the gigs be issued out after 2 weeks or during the training?

Answer
1. The training will be online. We will use a mix of platforms choosing the most suitable means to address issues. A lot of it would be on WhatsApp. Otherwise, get your data ready.

2. We are not asking you for samples. You are doing daily tasks that real-world clients would typically give to the clients. Established writers will also be working on those tasks so you will end up having access to what they have written as we compare notes and point out what you can improve on and what you have exceeded our expectations on. You will not be paid for whatever you write in those two weeks.

The way we build our writers is to make them pick out websites of their choice in a particular niche and train them accordingly. We will be using this same approach in the crypto niche.

3. Those who have impressed in the training by mutual and peer assessment will immediately commence work on the paid gigs.

Question
Good morning. Seasons greetings. I have a little question. Is the program flexible? I have a lot on my plate but I don't want to miss this.
In regards to the program's flexibility, can the daily 300 word articles be reduced to 200?

Answer
Good morning. My fullest compliments to you.

Thank you for your interest in the program. The best part of the program is that it's designed on the solely on the basis of data and qualitative feedback from writers and clients alike.

What have we discovered? Everyone, I mean EVERYONE, has a unique schedule. And for professional programs like this, allowing candidates to dictate how they'll participate weakens the curriculum and ALWAYS defeats the purpose.

It's like walking up to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and saying you want to attend medical school only on weekends and you will only take one course and graduate in the same 6 years. But, you tell them, you have immense passion to do it. Nobody ever thinks of that. Especially, when it's a completely-free program.
grin grin grin

Question
Can I attend this program as a client?

Answer
Absolutely! There is a client component in the program. You need to know good writing to ensure that what your writers deliver what your clients need.

This is a viable way to minimize how many contract cancellations you get going forward.

Besides, you can encourage your writers to participate. Or you think asking them to do so will make them better and you cannot afford them?

NO, my friend. Have you considered that their better writing will help you score better contracts? You pay them more but make much more.

Attend this program, dear client. Classes commence Monday 28th January, 2020..

Question
Will this class be available in January of 2021?

Answer
Our program is designed to be niche-wise. The instructors are busy clients themselves. Some of them you know and envy their success.

The next class is going to be in another niche. If cryptocurrencies, Blockchain, Forex, Real Estate, and so forth are your thing, this is your chance. Why wait for tomorrow?

LiteratureIntroducing The Writing++ Academy by SpaghettiThots(op):
Hello, folks! Happy Christmas! I know I've been really quiet around here and frankly, I've been bothered. Ill-health and other worldly troubles have done their best to batter me, but I always win.

While you have your drumstick wedged in your mouth (or maybe not!), I'm assuming you're trying really hard to ensure the New Year is nothing like this one. I am too! The one tangible difference being that I (no "WE") have decided to take your success personally.

You see, we exist in an ecosystem where our roles as clients and writers should be clearly defined! But, it's not. The harsher economic realities we all face do not seem to permit picking one path and sticking to it. I have seen writers turn clients within weeks of starting out AND clients grab the pen when the coast becomes unclear. They both think they're being entrepreneurial, yet time tells otherwise.

Trust me when I see I feel our collective pain. But, sticking to this rat race only hurts our goals and otherwise healthy ambition.

It's disheartening to see us as a tribe in disarray. We can cease to have issues threaten to go past boiling point because neither writer nor client would just budge. It appears that we need to fix the foundations of our industry. And that, FAST.

What can we do as writers? No pointing fingers now.

What can we do as clients? It is absolutely possible to be a writer and earn what you're worth. But, I suppose there's first a price to pay.

Oh! It is possible to stick to being a client and have the best manager any writer encounters.

It is utterly possible to create the environment for your writers to excel, growing your business as they grow their dreams. Can we first flush your us-against-them thinking down the drain, though?

Can we have clients who understand writing enough to ensure that a writer succeeds while succeeding on the projects they're handling?

Rates are a significant issue, but then they aren't as big as we try to make them.

I've seen writers and clients contributing to flunk projects when rates are low. Sadly, the same happens (sometimes worse) when rates are sky-high!

Can there be more realistic, more viable, and more resilient metrics other than rate to ensure that projects and this industry succeeds for writers and clients alike?

I know, na money we dey find, but would you rather flunk another project and lose working with a client again? Remember when you promised you could do x-thousand words a day knowing you were telling a bare-faced lie? How has that worked out though? You swore the other day to accept the low rate and deliver wishy-washy writing or spin your way to writing oblivion? How long would you shout you in the foot? Heck! You're bleeding badly and you're numb to your own suffering! The only reason you can write wishy-washy is because there's wishy-washy inside you.

All right, you created a system where you ALWAYS win at the expense of the writer. You jumped ship and became a client because you felt that's your only road to hammering. Now, shame means nothing no matter where they drag you to for failing to keep your end of cheap bargains.

These things need not be. So again, WE, are giving it another shot. Client or writer, you can do well in 2021. This is NOT your regular pitch. Hopping from group to group will not help you. We've seen the group thing fall flat on its face. It's the same writers littered across them, innit?

Multiple foreign accounts on freelance platforms are a joke if you ignore the rudiments of business or the art of writing. We're giving it another shot at helping you. Ultimately, you've got the knife and the yam!

Our gift to you this Christmas is to contribute to your success next year. I guess that doesn't oil your engine enough. Yet, it will certainly work wonders for your mileage. Can I get an Amen? grin grin grin

We want to collaborate with seasoned clients to ensure there are enough dependable writers capable of handling more than what the niche provides. All we will ask is 2 weeks of the writer's time. Two non-negotiable weeks of intense preparation to deliver everything typical clients want in various niches.

Is our goal lofty? You decide if it is. Is it a paid program? Our only payoff in this is a more capable writing ecosystem. We won't compromise on the price of your time though. grin Is that too much to ask?

Rather than beat the air and waste your time and client's time. Rather than submit yourself to subjective dragging over whether your work is the reason the client's client is pulling out of a project or demanding a refund, why not seize your beautiful destiny in your own firm hands? (Guess that sounded like your favourite motivational speaker! cheesy)

We are a team, you know. none of us can walk far enough if we don't walk together, long enough.

There are more markets for your writing services than you're choosing to notice now. You must first take your place, though. Stick out like a ostrich and earn your place and rightful rate. Is this something you think should happen? We're only a DM away on WhatsApp... shocked: +2348125266960

Dear Esteemed Writer,

You know your craft, don't you? It's not just an empty claim you're making, right? How come you're idle [and even have enough time to read every word in this piece]?

Listen up! Clients would only post jobs here when it's convenient for them. It's time to define what you experience.

So, why not tell folks here what you can do without being supervised?

Or, cold pitch a client you feel you'll be comfortable working with.

Clients need to see you're serious about business. I mean, if you were in their shoes, would you hire you? Why not smoothen the wrinkles in your writing. Then, find a way to showcase it. Isn't this why you're thinking of buying the iPhone 12? But, empty pockets won't cut it.

Literature/Writing AdsTip-sy Weekend: Clash Of The Titans - "Outsourcers" And The Writers They Need by SpaghettiThots(op): 5:13pm On Oct 25, 2020
This battle is a raging inferno, striving to consume all in its path. "Outsourcers" (aka clients) blaming writers for failed projects and lost contracts; writers blaming clients for whatever went wrong. The vicious circle of finger-pointing continuous. There's still no winner and everyone is savage!

Well, here's my honest assessment. There are good clients and good writers.

Similarly, the are bad writers and bad clients.

However, whether good or bad, both sides are always looking for ways to maximize their gains on any job.
It doesn't help that the default way of pricing writing jobs is per word. This is one element that helps bad writers and their client cousins thrive. Why not let me explain before you ask for my head...

A bad writer wants to turn in as much hogwash as possible to earn the highest possible amount of money.

A bad client wants the best quality possible for the lowest possible rate. But, who doesn't?

The difference lies in their prior intentions. Many clients have perfected a system where they make you do a lot of work without paying for it. These the ones with multiple WhatsApp and Telegram numbers. Does the name Victor Ogbonna ring a bellhuh

These bad clients are often the ones that demand you send samples as a DOCX file or on Google Docs, instead of paying for a good sample they'll use to secure a job. Mind you, a lot of trials from Upwork are paid trials. In fact, it's a violation of Upwork policy for freelancers to do free work.

A bad writer isn't necessarily one who doesn't know how to write. A bad writer struggles with accepting their need to improve.

They have no personal plan to learn what'll make their writing better. Plus, they never take corrections or do what the client wants. That's not an easy one - doing what the client wants. If you insist on doing things your own way - as I do on occasion - let it be something that adds value that the client cannot deny. I'm happy to report that some of my experiments bounce back to hurt me. grin

My experience is that you may not need more than two, three, four clients who know their onions as you know yours as a writer.

You'll certainly disagree from time to time, but neither party would be thinking of ending the relationship.

Truth be told, my present clients usually remind me to take payment. Mind you, some of those are payments I've even forgotten about. Yes, some of these clients are even on this forum.

I'll shock you again. You can build the relationship to the point where the client tells you even the true financial details of a project. Even you will know to be reasonable in your pricing when you see such. That's how we win together.

Would you admit your flaws as a writer or at least, apologize? Same goes for the client? They are not mutually exclusive. Trying to be too smart never works.

Clients need writers. Writers need clients. Some of us do better at one than the other. Some try to wear both hats. Either way, always put yourself in the other shoe.

As a writer, would you accept what you're trying to submithuh

Grammar. Plagiarism. Formatting. Project goals. Reach an understanding on these things beforehand. I've had clients who agreed to take responsibility if a piece gets flagged for plag. Many offer to give me access to their Grammarly and Copyscape accounts before I even ask. One even brought Quetext the other day and always tells me when they change any password. Note that we didn't arrive there in one day.

As a client, is what you're offering and your conditions morally fitting for the output you're demandinghuh

Do you truthfully expect them to take a Copyscape subscription ($10 a month) or Grammarly subscription ($150 a year) on the relative pittance you're offering on projects?

You really shouldn't take every job on Upwork just for the sake of it! You're free to disagree on this.

The writer is not an employee, in the truest sense of the word. They're a professional offering a service in return for timely and decent pay, so it's important a client approaches conversations with a writer respectfully.

It's not out of place to celebrate your writer's birthday or that of your client's. They have a life outside of this writing business. They need data and power to do your job effectively. They also need emotional stability to deal properly with you. It's certainly not your job to provide these but can you make a contribution to that? Absolutely! Little things go a long way. I know some people I've discussed jobs with here will read this, but elements like these are why I can turn down terms I don't find comfortable on your project.

Finally writers, honesty is still the best way to go. You know exactly where this applies to you. You can't write everything. No one should expect you to. You also should not take jobs with the hopes of subcontracting them to some you feel speaks some form of English.

If you can't meet a deadline, negotiate a fairer one or let the job be! Another will come.

With these few points of mine, I trust that I've convinced you that writers and clients can peacefully coexist in a parallel universe. Ah! If you're a client seeking reputable writers, the ProPen! community is where you'll find more than a handful. Here's your special link to join right away: https:///3vvyxd.

LiteratureTip-sy Weekend: How Can I Get Work On Upwork??? by SpaghettiThots(op): 12:44pm On Oct 23, 2020
I enjoy addressing issues in the writing industry as best as I can. I understand the frustration in not being able to score new gigs as a writer on Upwork. I spoke to a few folks who I know are doing great (much better than me!), and here's what I learnt: there's really no straightforward answer.

However, here are a few first steps:
1. Be willing to learn and improve.
2. Treat your work like a business.
3. A client at hand is worth...
4. Approach each job application with a long-term view.
5. Do your BEST work every chance you get. You see, a comma means more than you may care to admit and flow in writing is everything.

That said, when you're starting out, it's okay to play the numbers game. Apply for every job until you find what works. Do this a few times, and the tiny drops will form a small trickle. That's the kind of momentum you need to keep going to win on Upwork.

LiteratureQuestions Wise Clients Ask Before They Hire Any Writer by SpaghettiThots(op): 4:53pm On Oct 13, 2020
Writing clients understand that writers often come at a dime a dozen. However, it doesn't take too long for them to realize they'd rather not be bitten twice. Quality writers make it a goal to make their clients happy in every possible way.

Seasoned clients who make money in our business know exactly what to look for in a writer to know who will deliver on critical projects. If your writers have been giving you the short end of the stick, here are a few ways you can start to sieve the wheat from the tares. Just ASK:

1. Who on my current team can do this project?
2. Does this writer sound desperate for money?,
3. Do this writer's samples pass Plagiarism and Grammar tests?
4. How similar are this writer's samples? Can they vary their style to suit the project?
5. Is this writer teachable?
6. Can I invest in tools to make my writer even better?
7. Can I pay this writer what they're worth as much as this project permits?

Simplistic, eh? Well, not everyone needs rocket science to live a good life. shocked

Literature/Writing AdsOn Writers, Clients, And Our Business by SpaghettiThots(op):
Dear Partner-in-Progress,

As someone in the writing business, what have you done today to improve? This week? This month? This year?

Are you even thinking of becoming better at what you do? Or, is this just a way to make a quick buck off clients who don't know what good writing is, or who won't give two hoots about quality? Oh! Some will pity you and pay you. Your rate is nothing compared with the blessing of having you off their back for good!

I'm glad you've read this far! Yes, you, Mr Client! What have you done to improve your business? The processes and the outcomes .

The "Write" Side of Life
By now, you should've realized that the writing business doesn't exactly run on autopilot. You should ask Boeing about the 737 Max!

You see, dear writer, in ten minutes you can pick up a tip from an article or YouTube video that'll wow some of your clients. I said some.

How about picking up two of such tips every ten days? Now, go back and polish your fundamentals. Yes, spelling, grammar, and tenses never go away. If you write for a living, you're in this life-long prison! But, you can improve with every piece you write! Now, you'll win some more clients.

Here's a timeless tip: why not study the feedback on your current and past jobs? They're part of why I am starting to shine brightly in this business.

When they tell me a bad writer is a bad writer, I disagree. I tell them to give you a bit more time because you can improve *if you choose to*. There's no point in being a content thief. You're much better than that.

The Other Side of the Coin
Back to you, dear client. tongue
It's a great pleasure when you say you're hiring or employing a writer. You feel on top of the world, and maybe you should because you're doing much better than some governments at creating jobs.

But, do you realise the writer hasn't come to the table for crumbs? He deserves substance too. wink
I work with a particular client who said these words to me: Happy writer, happy client. Listen up, I've suspended jobs to face hers even when she's paying less.

Your accounting skills shouldn't suddenly be all too accurate when dealing with your writer. Think of it, just a little more their way won't hurt your business. Remember, you'll be sustaining and securing the future if you dare to see your writer as a partner in progress. Yes, they're in business for themselves, but life isn't just about financial profits, contrary to what economic circumstances have drilled into our minds.

Ms Client, don't be a sample thief too. The least you could do is to have some character not to pass off another's hard work as yours. At the very least, pay the writer for the sample and let them know your intentions.

It's just not valid to expect the writer to share your liabilities or shortcomings in your contracts. Business is risky and trust me, a good writer who's cut their teeth right has no business waiting for your client to approve your submission. Pay a writer once you feel confident to send the job to your own client. With a good relationship, you can always ask them to make edits where necessary. If they refuse to, then cut them off your team!

In the first place, you should have a system to check submissions before they reach the client. It's more than checking with Grammarly and Copyscape. Even when a job passes those hurdles, it can fail what I believe is the ultimate test: the test of client requirements.

Client requirements are not a joke! They're a reference; a checklist of what the client wants and you've accepted to deliver to them. Don't give your writers briefs as if they're a mere list of instructions. Discuss briefs with the writer and make sure you're both clear on what the client wants, when they want it, and the best approach for the project.

Refuse to let any writer dismiss any client requirements as unimportant. If they do so during your discussions, they're likely to implement it while writing. Sometimes, it's impossible to go back on a job, so always start a project on the best footing possible. Ask your writers what they're comfortable writing. Run your checks to confirm that. Then, distribute assignments along those lines.

The Conclusion of a Weighty Matter
My submission is the writer and the client are really on the same side. If they respect each other's business, it becomes easier to identify the impostors lurking around in our business.

It really comes down to making simple improvements as a writer or client every single day. A community of seasoned writers and reputable clients can help you achieve your business goals. I thought I was the only one making the observation. Today it's Christian writer, tomorrow it is product review writer.

So among the plenty adverts, no one comes close to being good enough for you?

This one can tell you your work isn't good enough and not pay you a dime, only for him to submit your work and get his money.

Shioor ooo.
Dear joshteefied1,

You seemed to race too quickly to join the bandwagon to bring a man down. That's surely not what your name would represent. I ask again, don't you think a better approach would be to speak to the poster to find out why they seem to always be hiring? Indeed, maybe you should question why FAANG companies (I hope you understand what that means) have a persistent "We're hiring" page on their website.

Or, have you worked with the poster before too? Did they not pay you? Please share all evidence. You wouldn't like anyone to do this to your own business, would you?

Let's be objective for a moment. Do you believe you wrote an excellent piece for them that met all their requirements? If you did not, then you really would spend your time learning to be a better writer than trying to unionize on Nairaland.

I can tell you this: while you were whining, some others must have been applying. It's not noble what you have chosen to do. REPENT.

Bluehill1051:
This one will just be posting article writers needed everyday. What happened to the ones that have written for you? Why can't you retain those ones? Not like you're really expanding over the years so far
It only proves how much of a cheat you are.
Dear Bluehill1051,

Don't you think you're being too hasty in your judgement? How certain are you that anyone has even responded to this poster's everyday (as you claim) ads asking for writers? Have you ever written for the poster? If you have and it turned sour, it's best you share the entire experience with all accompanying evidence to give us a truthful context. It's weak of you if you're trying to shoot a man in the back because you couldn't deliver what they asked for in business.

PS: Don't rush to reply this. Ensure you "calm down" and think through my words first.

Good morning,

I saw your ad requesting a writer. Well, that's what I do, and I have had the priviledge of delivering top-quality content for global and local clients alike on the topics you have mentioned and more. Like them, you will get well-researched pieces that meet your goals and are free of amateur artefacts like spelling/grammar errors and plagiarism.

Regardless of the format you want, once I have your brief, we can agree on other modalities and get the job DONE. My rate is N3, and considering that I am active on Upwork with 5-star reviews (https://www.upwork.com/fl/alexandrixikechukwu) you can be sure I am battle-tested and trusted. You can reach me on 08093136084 or metasaint@gmail.com. Thank you.
