InvestmentHmmm!!!! FGN Savings Bond Is Targeted At The Poor, Not Elites by Spazwik(op): 2:32pm On May 05, 2017
While addressing leaders of market unions and leaders of middle income earner organisations in an advocacy/sensitisation workshop in Onitsha, the Director General of Debt Management Office (DMO), Abraham Nwankwo stated that the new Federal Government of Nigeria Savings Bond (FGNSB) was designed to give the poor a stake in government.

He said over the years, government has issued bond, but it remained elitist bonds, which were sold as wholesale bond to privileged individuals, corporate companies and organisation.

But now:

The FGNSB is making these bond available to the ordinary Nigerians.
There are a lot to benefits in investing in the FGNSB. First is that it is an opportunity for the common man to have a stake in the country. You can boast of having borrowed to the federal government.
Investment has interest accruing to you, straight into your bank account, and your interest is tax free.
The savings bond will open, and it will remain open for five days.
The interest rate will be disclosed, and everyone is at liberty to buy.
You can invest from as little as N5,000 to as high as N50 million.
The workshop featured teachings on the workings of bond, and how to purchase them. DMO’s Director of portfolio management, Oladele Afolabi took participants through a lecture on the bonds, while reeling out the list of accredited stockbrokers.

TravelPay Less For Trips With Uber In Lagos by Spazwik(op): 2:11pm On May 05, 2017
Ride-sharing app, Uber has announced a 40% reduction in Lagos rates effective from Thursday 4th May 2017. This means that not only will riders pay less for their trips but driver-partners will earn more through increased demand.

According to the management in a statement, “we want to make sure that Uber is an affordable way to move around your city, so we’re dropping rates in Lagos by 40% from Thursday 4th May 2017.

“Therefore you can now request a high-quality ride for the same price as small chops!”
Whether you’re running a quick errand, visiting friends or commuting to work, Uber has got you covered for less.

Uber Technologies Inc. is a transportation network company headquartered in San Francisco, California, United States, operating in 570 cities worldwide.

It develops, markets and operates the Uber car transportation and food delivery mobile apps.

In furtherance, the management stated that decreasing the fares should get more people requesting more rides with Uber, which leads to drivers spending more time with paying riders and standing a chance to earn the same or more.
Technology MarketBlocks Of Shops Destroyed In Computer Village by Spazwik(op): 12:47pm On May 04, 2017
News just reaching us confirms that, in spite of initial resistance put up by traders, armed policemen supervised the demolition of shops in Computer Village, Ikeja earlier yesterday, Wednesday.

According to Premium Times, about 18 shops in total were destroyed.

A witness who lost his two shops to the demolition said they received eviction notices from the government four days ago.

You may remember that barely a week ago, the Lagos state government announced its decision to move the popular Computer Village from Ikeja to Katangowa. It is not yet clear whether or not the demolition in question is related to this decision.

However, the Lagos state government is yet to make any official statement on the demolition.

CareerLearn A New Skill Today by Spazwik(op): 12:18pm On May 03, 2017
Learning new skills is vital to your career development. That’s how you evolve, improve the way you work and boost your job performance. But, while you are well aware of the benefits of lifelong learning and how important it is to keep yourself up-to-date with current practices, it’s often difficult to find the time to do it.

The fast pace of life, everyday responsibilities and demands don’t allow you much time to yourself. In fact, it seems that twenty-four hours a day aren’t enough to do what you want. I mean how many times have you said to yourself you need to learn something new?

If you think you are too busy to do anything, just drop the excuses and make time. Learning a new skill is easy provided you know how to work smart.

So, here are ways you can find some time to develop a new skill.

Check your schedule

Sleep and work take about 16 hours of your day. Then you have to either take care of kids, visit the grocery store of go for weekly services at your church after work — that’s if you’re the religious types. When all that is done, there just a few hours to do anything else.

The first step to making time is adjusting your schedule to your needs. Check what you are currently doing every day and find an open spot to fit in your learning activities. So let’s say you finish work at five, you can easily make room for a graphics or a web design class, maybe at 5:30 to 6:30 before you go back home and start doing the housework. Alternatively, if you can’t do afternoons, you can make a good use of your lunch time.

Prioritize

If you want to be good at something you have to work for it. If you can’t prioritize your daily schedule and track what you are doing, you won’t be able to get what you want. The most effective way to prioritize is by asking yourself which of your daily activities are the most urgent and important and work on those first. Likewise, you can choose to delegate some of your responsibilities to your spouse or a trusted friend who can help you out.

Prioritizing is all about doing what’s important to you. So promise yourself that you won’t schedule anything else at that time of the day. Just keep that time to yourself and concentrate on what you need to do. It’s important that when you do it, you eliminate distractions so that you put your energy and focus on what you are learning.

Don’t procrastinate

Ignoring your desire to do nothing at all ca be difficult. Especially when you go back home, and you are exhausted from work, the only thing you want to do is get comfy on your couch and watch some TV or take a good nap.

But while doing so is very tempting that’s when you need to get up and going. Don’t let the monster of procrastination get you until you finish what you are supposed to be doing. After you finish your web design practice, you will have plenty of time to relax, watch a movie or catch up with your friends.

Use your commute period

If you have a long commute — one in which you’re not driving, try to learn new skills then. If you live in Lagos and you board commercial buses, the daily traffic gives you the opportunity to spend time learning those skills. Many times, you realise that by the time you light, you’ve gotten enough knowledge and you rest immediately you get home.

This would be possible that getting materials that are easily accessible while you’re on the goes. Download videos, podcasts, buy books and take them along with you every single day.

Which of these did you find the most useful in finding more time? What skill will you learn once you find more time in your schedule? We’d love to hear from you below!

CareerHow To Stay Mentally And Physically Active All Day by Spazwik(op): 4:51pm On May 02, 2017
If you’re busy professionals, you probably spend a lot of time sitting — in your car, at your desk, on the couch. Most jobs don't allow for a lot of movement throughout the day, and while that 30-minute workout you might take after office hours does help, it isn't much compared to the time spent sitting at work, watching TV, or sleeping.

The health effects of sitting all day can be harsh; working an inactive job increases your risk of stroke, heart problems, back and spinal issues, and diabetes.

To help you increase your health and lower your risks, here are a few easy ways to stay mentally and physically active during the day:

Get up earlier

Set your alarm half an hour to 45 minutes earlier than you normally would, and try to squeeze in a quick workout. Starting your day with brisk exercise can really help get your adrenaline pumping as well as provide you with more energy for the start of the day.

Making time for a morning jog or a session of sit-ups are both easy ways to stay active and can lead to a world of difference; you just have to be willing to make the time for it.

Move around

Instead of sitting in the office lunch room during breaks, go for a walk, walk up and down the stairs a few times, or do some simple stretches. If you have to communicate with someone, walk over and talk to them directly instead of sending them an email.

Even simply standing up at your desk for a few minutes when you’re in the middle of working on something helps. Moving around at work is important for your health, but it also can help you refocus and gain some mental clarity in the middle of a stressful workday.

Take the stairs

It's amazing how many fully fit people opt for the elevator in the morning. If you're guilty of this habit as well, start taking the stairs.

It’s one of the few options most offices have in regards to a slightly strenuous activity, and while it might not seem like much, taking the stairs a few times a day starts to add up. After all, any physical activity is better than none.

Manage stress

Of course, it’s easier said than done, but learning how to manage stress can greatly affect mental health. Stress can be distracting, depressing, and overwhelming, which ultimately affects your mental stability. Practice deep breathing exercises, and make sure to get enough sleep to start managing stressful lifestyles.

Speaking of sleep, getting enough sleep is essential to staying mentally active. Sleep helps consolidate memories and “reboot” brain function for the next day. Going to bed early enough is key to catching enough sleep during your work week.

CareerThese Easy Tips Would Make You Look Smart On The Job by Spazwik(op): 3:00pm On Apr 27, 2017
In life, many opportunities are tied to what other people think of you. It normal to hear things like, “don’t care about what other think of you”. Well, sometimes, you really have to be bothered about it.

At your workplace, if people you work with think you are smart, you are most likely to get asked to take part in projects that will enhance your career. On the other hand, there are thoughts that you dumb flying in people’s heads, you’ll probably be passed over. Looking smart is just as important as being smart.

Assuming that you are actually smart, and you don’t have to fake anything — Your goal should be to make people think of you as a smart person. Humans aren’t particularly good at judging the intelligence of other humans. Here are six things you can do that will help enhance people’s perception of your intelligence.

Speak up

The more you can contribute to a conversation, a meeting, or other discourse, the smarter you’ll come off. Even if it means admitting ignorance or asking questions, you’ll still look better than if you stay silent—and you might actually learn something in the process.

Expressive speech is key: you can boost your credibility a lot by simply making sure you speak with an engaging tone. Change your pitch and volume as necessary, and try to minimize the number of pauses as you speak. A little confidence goes a long way.

Take a contrary view

This has to be done delicately. Simply disagreeing with everyone around you will not help. However, having a well reasoned position that is different than others shows you are capable of independent thought.

You must be careful not to insult anyone when you choose to take this approach. Keep in mind that you are probably not aware of all the relationships that exist. Taking the position that the CEO of your company is doing a poor job while talking to his daughter will not make you look intelligent.

Go about with reading materials

It is better if you actually read the material, but since we started with the assumption that you are smart we can probably also assume that you regularly read “smart” things.

You could carry around a business book or any great informative material. You are simply managing perceptions and trying to make sure people associate you with sources of information that they think are intelligent.

Ask questions

Most people try to show how smart they are by telling others what they know. This often backfires. It is easy to appear arrogant. In addition, the person who always acts like an expert on every subject is likely to be regarded with some suspicion.

Asking intelligent questions can showcase your intelligence much more effectively than showing everyone how much you know. There are several reasons for this. The first reason is that most truly intelligent people are extremely teachable–that is how they became so intelligent. If you are trying to act smart without exhibiting teachable behavior people will think you are a fake.

What else do you do to appear smart at work?

BusinessCBN Injects $186m Into The Retail Secondary Market Intervention Sales by Spazwik(op): 12:01pm On Apr 27, 2017
The CBN says it will continue to intervene in the foreign exchange market, as it injected $185.86 million into the retail Secondary Market Intervention Sales (SMIS).

Out of the auctioned amount, only $3.14million was sold as spots, while the sum of $182.72million was sold as forwards.

The overall picture of the inter-bank forex market is that of optimism, going by the level of access now being enjoyed by different categories of customers in both the wholesale and retail segments of the market.

Emefiele, while assuring Nigerians of the imminent end of the current recession in 2017, at the end of his meeting with the leadership of the Senate on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, declared that the Bank will continue its relentless intervention in the forex market.

The optimism of the CBN is based on the accretion to the country’s foreign reserve, which currently hovers above the $31billion mark. Reserves stand at above $31bn and that provides enough of firepower or ammunition to be able to defend the currency.

The Bank has assured all shades of genuine customers that the CBN would provide them the needed foreign exchange to meet their legitimate needs.

We are back again with our favourite breakfast recipe, but this time we've got chocolate all over it. Super yum!.....stuffed and garnished with chocolate. This for us is beyond irresistible and we think you will agree. Spice up your breakfast today!

Method
1 To make the chocolate sauce - put a saucepan over medium heat and pour in whipping cream. Remove from fire and pour in 100 g of the chocolate. Allow sitting for about 5 minutes before whisking until smooth. Make sure the sauce is room temperature before pouring over the pancakes.
2. Crack 1 egg into a large bowl with sugar and beat. Add in milk, oil and mix.
3. Mix the dry items (flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder and ¼ teaspoon salt) in another bowl. Make a well in the middle, pour in the wet ingredients and mix. Chop the remaining chocolate into bits the size of chocolate chips and fold into the batter. The batter should be quite thick and a little lumpy but make sure the flour is mixed in well.

5. Heat up your frying pan on medium heat, preferably a non-stick pan.
6. Coat pan with butter/oil, whichever you prefer. Pour in ¼ cup of batter into the pan. When you notice bubbles at the top and side (should take about 1 minute), flip and cook the other side for another 1 minute.
7. Repeat step 6 until all batter is exhausted. Replenish pan with butter/oil as you go on.
8. Serve warm and pour chocolate sauce over.

Health6 Foods For Healthy Hair by Spazwik(op): 11:24am On Apr 24, 2017
Are you aware that your hair grows about 1/4 to 1/2 inch every month and the foundation of all of our new hair, skin and nail growth is the nutrients we eat’’ say Daen Jackson Blatner, RD, a Chicago-based dietician.

The secret to those thick, strong, shiny strands isn’t an expensive shampoo or hair treatment- It is pretty much about your diet. I know a lot of people might argue this, but trust and believe this is true. A well-balanced diet that includes plenty of growth-promoting protein and iron can make a difference, say nutrition and hair experts.

So what are the foods that promote healthy hair?

1. Salmon - It is very rich in protein and vitamin D ( both are important for strong hair) - Omega- 3 fatty acids are found in salmon and they are essentials for a number of functions, including hair. Omega- 3s are also found in cell membranes in the skin of your scalp, and in the natural oils that keep your scalp and hair hydrated.

2. Eggs- are the excellent source of that aforementioned omega-3s, and they have biotin (which many people trying to grow their hair take in supplement form). But note that it isn't the egg white that actually makes the hair grow long and beautiful, it is actually the yolk. Eating too many egg whites can actually block the absorption of biotin into the body, causing a depletion of this micronutrient.

3. Sweet potatoes- are loaded with beta-carotene, the precursor for vitamin A that not only promotes a healthy scalp but effectively promotes hair growth, too.

4. Spinach- is rich in vitamins K, A, C, B2, B6, B1, E, manganese, zinc, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids. These nutrients help nourish your scalp and hair ensuring healthy hair growth.

5.Greek Yoghurt - it is rich in calcium, potassium, zinc, vitamins B6 and B12 which is good for hair growth.

6. Walnut- is rich in vitamin B7/biotin which helps to prevent hair from falling and it strengthens hair follicles.

4. Fill it in your resume

There are several ways to add a course to your resume, depending on the layout you prefer. One option is to add it to your educational background. Show that you have taken your education further by participating in extra courses. The second option is to add it to a separate skills and experience section.

If a course doesn’t quite fit in your educational background, you can include it as a skill-builder or extra-curricular activity. A third option is to include it in a section about your interests. If a course doesn’t exactly fit your professional path, you can still show that you are self-motivated, have a drive to learn and interested in a wide range of topics.
