Health / Early Diagnosis And Treatment In Arthritis Management by Spazwik: 2:12pm On Nov 22, 2023
Arthritis, a multifaceted cluster of inflammatory joint diseases, stands as a formidable health challenge affecting millions globally.

This comprehensive exploration seeks to unravel the intricate tapestry of arthritis, emphasizing the pivotal importance of early diagnosis and prompt treatment in navigating the complexities of this condition.

By comprehensively understanding and embracing the significance of timely intervention, individuals can take proactive measures to manage arthritis effectively, fostering holistic well-being and an improved quality of life.

Understanding Arthritis:

Arthritis isn’t a singular entity but rather a diverse family of inflammatory joint diseases, each with its own unique characteristics and implications.

To embark on this comprehensive journey, let’s delve into the differences between osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and gout, among others.

Understanding these distinctions lays the foundation for a more nuanced exploration of early detection strategies and varied treatment modalities tailored to each subtype.

Osteoarthritis, the most common form, involves the gradual wear and tear of joint cartilage, leading to pain and stiffness.

Rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune disorder, targets the synovial membrane, causing inflammation and joint damage.

Psoriatic arthritis affects individuals with psoriasis, impacting joints and often leading to deformities.

Ankylosing spondylitis primarily affects the spine, causing inflammation and fusion of the vertebrae.

Gout, characterized by elevated uric acid levels, results in sudden, severe joint pain, typically in the big toe.

The Silent Onset:

The onset of arthritis is often insidious, marked by symptoms that may initially be dismissed or attributed to the natural aging process.

We’ll explore the intricacies of joint stiffness, swelling patterns, and the often subtle discomfort that may serve as early indicators.

By comprehensively illuminating the subtle nature of arthritis onset, we aim to equip readers with the knowledge to recognize potential signs early on, prompting them to seek medical attention during the nascent stages of the disease.

Joint Stiffness

Especially in the morning or after periods of inactivity, may signal the onset of arthritis. Understanding the nuanced differences in swelling, ranging from visible joint swelling to more subtle inflammation detected through imaging, provides a more comprehensive picture.

Discomfort may manifest not only as pain but also as a persistent ache or tenderness, often misattributed to fatigue or stress.

By unraveling these intricacies, individuals can proactively identify potential indicators, enabling them to engage with healthcare professionals at the earliest signs of trouble.

Consequences of Delayed Diagnosis:

The repercussions of postponing arthritis diagnosis can be profound, impacting not only physical health but also mental and socioeconomic well-being.

Delayed diagnosis can lead to
Irreversible joint damage:
where the gradual erosion of cartilage results in chronic pain and diminished joint function.

Decreased mobility:
is not only a consequence of joint damage but can also lead to a sedentary lifestyle, contributing to secondary health issues such as obesity and cardiovascular diseases.

The emotional toll of arthritis
often exacerbated by delayed diagnosis, includes depression, anxiety, and a diminished quality of life. From a socioeconomic perspective, the economic burden of arthritis-related healthcare costs and lost productivity underscores the need for early intervention strategies.

Health / Hepatitis B Transmission Explained by Spazwik: 4:41pm On Nov 07, 2023
Hepatitis B is a viral infection that specifically targets the liver. The hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a bloodborne pathogen that can cause acute and chronic hepatitis. Acute hepatitis B is a short-term infection, while chronic hepatitis B persists for six months or longer.

Symptoms of hepatitis B may include fatigue, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), abdominal pain, dark urine, and clay-colored stools. Long-term complications can arise from chronic infections, such as liver cirrhosis and liver cancer.

In this comprehensive guide, we will delve deeper into the modes of transmission of hepatitis B, providing valuable insights for individuals and communities to stay safe and protect themselves.

Modes of Transmission
a) Perinatal Transmission:

Perinatal transmission refers to the transmission of hepatitis B from an infected mother to her newborn during childbirth. The virus can be passed through the blood or other bodily fluids.

To prevent perinatal transmission, it is crucial for pregnant women to undergo prenatal screening for hepatitis B. If the mother is found to be infected, the newborn should receive the hepatitis B vaccine and hepatitis B immune globulin (HBIG) within 12 hours of birth.

b) Horizontal Transmission:

Horizontal transmission refers to the transmission of hepatitis B through direct contact with infected blood or body fluids. The most common modes of horizontal transmission include:

Unprotected Sexual Intercourse: Hepatitis B can be transmitted through sexual contact with an infected partner. Unprotected vaginal, anal, or MouthAction poses a risk, especially if there are tears or abrasions in the mucous membranes.

Sharing Contaminated Needles or Personal Items: Sharing needles, syringes, or other drug paraphernalia can transmit the virus. Additionally, sharing personal items such as razors, toothbrushes, or nail clippers can also spread the virus if contaminated with infected blood.

Occupational Exposure: Healthcare workers, emergency responders, and other professionals who may come into contact with blood or body fluids are at risk of hepatitis B transmission if adequate precautions, such as proper barrier protection and vaccination, are not followed.
c) Healthcare-Related Transmission:

Hepatitis B can be transmitted in healthcare settings through unsafe medical practices, such as inadequate sterilization of medical equipment.

Additionally, improper handling of blood transfusions or organ transplants can also lead to transmission if the blood or organs are infected. To prevent healthcare-related transmission, stringent protocols for sterilization and screening of blood and organ donors should be implemented.

d) Infection through Injecting Drug Use:

Injecting drug use is a high-risk behavior that can lead to hepatitis B transmission. Sharing needles, syringes, or other drug paraphernalia can directly introduce the virus into the bloodstream.

Promoting harm reduction strategies such as needle exchange programs, where clean needles are provided, can help reduce the risk of hepatitis B transmission among people who inject drugs.

e) Non-Parenteral Transmission:

Although less common, hepatitis B can be transmitted through non-parenteral means, including:

Tattooing, Body Piercing, and Acupuncture: Practices involving the use of contaminated equipment can lead to hepatitis B transmission. It is important to ensure that these procedures are performed using sterile equipment or single-use disposable needles.

Sharing Personal Items: Sharing personal items such as razors, toothbrushes, or personal care items with an infected individual can transmit hepatitis B if there is the presence of infected blood on these items.

Traditional Practices: In some cultures, traditional practices like scarification or circumcision may involve the use of unsterilized instruments, increasing the risk of hepatitis B transmission.

Health / Hepatitis B And Coinfection by Spazwik: 3:10pm On Oct 31, 2023
Hepatitis B is a viral infection that primarily affects the liver and is caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). It is a major global health concern, with an estimated 257 million people living with chronic hepatitis B worldwide.

Hepatitis B can have significant implications for individuals who are coinfected with other viral infections, such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV). Understanding the interactions between hepatitis B and these coexisting viral infections is crucial for effective management and treatment.

In this article, we will delve into the intricacies of hepatitis B coinfection, its impact on HIV, HCV, and other viral infections, and explore potential treatment strategies.

Coinfection: Hepatitis B and HIV:

Hepatitis B and HIV coinfection are relatively common, especially in regions where both viruses are endemic. The two viruses share similar routes of transmission, making co-infection a significant concern.

Coinfection with HIV can have a profound impact on the natural course and clinical outcomes of hepatitis B, as well as HIV itself. Key points to consider include:

a. Disease Progression: Coinfection with HIV can have a profound impact on the natural course of hepatitis B. HIV-mediated immunosuppression weakens the immune response against HBV, leading to increased viral replication and liver inflammation.

As a result, individuals with HIV and hepatitis B coinfection are more likely to experience faster progression of liver fibrosis, higher rates of liver cirrhosis, and an increased risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a type of liver cancer.

b. Antiretroviral Therapy (ART): The management of individuals with HIV and hepatitis B coinfection requires careful consideration due to potential drug interactions and hepatotoxicity. Some antiretroviral drugs used in ART regimens are effective against both HIV and HBV, providing dual benefits by suppressing both viruses.

These medications, such as tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) or tenofovir alafenamide (TAF), have potent antiviral activity against both HIV and HBV. However, certain antiretroviral drugs may have limited activity against HBV or can cause HBV resistance, necessitating careful selection and monitoring of treatment regimens.

c. Immune Reconstitution: With the initiation of ART, individuals with HIV and hepatitis B coinfection may experience immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS), which is characterized by an exaggerated immune response against hepatitis B antigens.

IRIS can lead to an exacerbation of hepatitis B symptoms, liver inflammation, and liver enzyme elevation. Close monitoring of liver function, viral replication, and appropriate management strategies are necessary during this period to prevent further liver damage.

Health / An Overview Of Hepatitis: Types, Causes, Symptoms, And Treatment Options by Spazwik: 3:02pm On Oct 31, 2023
Hepatitis is a medical condition characterized by inflammation of the liver. It can be caused by various factors, including viral infections, alcohol consumption, certain medications, autoimmune diseases, and metabolic disorders.

In this article, we will provide a comprehensive overview of hepatitis, exploring its different types, causes, symptoms, and available treatment options.

Types of Hepatitis:
Hepatitis A

Hepatitis A is a viral infection that affects the liver. It is caused by the hepatitis A virus (HAV) and is typically transmitted through the consumption of contaminated food or water or through close contact with an infected person.

Here’s a description of the types, causes, symptoms, and treatment options for hepatitis A:

Types:

Hepatitis A is classified as a type of acute viral hepatitis, which means it is a short-term infection that typically resolves on its own without causing chronic liver disease. Unlike hepatitis B and C, hepatitis A does not lead to chronic infection.

Causes:

The hepatitis A virus (HAV) is primarily responsible for causing hepatitis A. The virus is typically present in the feces of infected individuals and can contaminate food, water, or objects if proper hygiene measures are not followed.

The most common modes of transmission include consuming contaminated food or water, close personal contact with an infected person, or engaging in sexual activities with an infected individual.

Symptoms:

The symptoms of hepatitis A can vary in severity, and some individuals may not develop any symptoms at all. The incubation period, which is the time between exposure to the virus and the onset of symptoms, usually ranges from 2 to 7 weeks.

Common symptoms include fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, abdominal discomfort, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), and mild fever. Symptoms can last for a few weeks to several months, with complete recovery being the norm.

Treatment options:

There is no specific antiviral treatment for hepatitis A. In most cases, the infection resolves on its own, and treatment focuses on relieving symptoms and supporting the liver during the recovery process.

It is important for infected individuals to get plenty of rest, maintain a balanced diet, and avoid alcohol and certain medications that can further strain the liver. Adequate hydration is also essential.

Vaccination against hepatitis A is available and recommended for individuals at risk, such as travelers to countries with high rates of infection or individuals with certain medical conditions.

Prevention:

Prevention of hepatitis A primarily involves good personal hygiene and safe food and water practices.

This includes thorough handwashing with soap and water after using the restroom and before handling food, drinking clean water, practicing safe sex, and avoiding the consumption of raw or undercooked shellfish or contaminated food and drinks.

Business / How To Protect Your Organisation From Insider Threats by Spazwik: 1:20pm On Feb 16, 2021

Many threats and risks face organizations, especially as digital technologies advance and grow even larger. In practice, most companies already invest quality time to deploy preventive strategies that can combat external threats to data security such as hackers, phishers, and other cybercriminals. However, most never go far when it comes to measures of tackling internal threats.

In reality, insider threats are just as detrimental to data security as external threats are. By default, employees typically have access to company information and sensitive data resources. These employees, intentionally or unknowingly, may trigger malware by opening the wrong link or file attachment, steal data, or share confidential files using third-party software and social media instead of authorized company applications.

Although insider threats may be quite challenging to identify, taking proactive measures helps to forestall data breaches and compromise of data integrity. In this post, we discuss helpful recommendations to reduce the risk of insider threats from your employees.

Sensitize Your Employees About Potential Insider Threats

Many employees may be unaware of the risks their organization will face as a result of data breaches. Therefore, in addition to deploying the latest security system solutions to fight against cyber threats, it’s equally important to organize regular prevention training workshops and ensure that employees know the important steps to take to detect threats and prevent potential attacks.

Simplify Risk Communication

Most times, organizations are swift to communicate to their employees when a new vulnerability emerges. Sadly, they use too many technical when they communicate the attacks, this may bring little understanding of the effects. It’s best to simplify these messages and make them as clear as possible so that all employees may understand what’s at stake and how to prevent in-house mistakes that might lead to a breach.

Categorise Employees

One of the best strategies to avoid insider threats and minimize risks is to categorize employees into access categories. Based on access levels, you may classify your employees into two categories, the privileged and the standard.

In this two-tiered classification, privileged employees have the highest level of access to the business data. They can view and modify sensitive corporate information and client data. On the other hand, standard employees have restricted access level to confidential information and data. Of these categories, privileged users are potentially the bigger source of insider threat, and should, therefore, use more secure technologies and systems for their daily operations. Also, these rights must be reviewed regularly and changed whenever an employee is laid off or promoted.

Adopt Safe Social Media Usage Policies

Although many organizations block social media channels outrightly on company systems, even company-authorized social networks and internal collaboration tools may also pose risks. Sharing links are common on corporate social networks, and this may also be a source of malicious attacks, malware, and other threats to data security in the workplace. Hence, ensure that links shared are safe and only from trusted sources.

Beware of Red Flags

While most insider attacks are unintentional, there are exceptions where aggrieved employees go rogue and decide to steal company data or breach confidentiality. Usually, some signs may precede such attacks. An employee may begin working overtime onsite or log-in after business hours or on weekends. Issues like these must be quickly addressed to forestall disasters that may hamper the reputation of your organization.

Properties / Why You Need To Install Security Cameras In High-rise Buildings by Spazwik: 10:12pm On Nov 18, 2020

As owner or property manager of a high-rise condominium, apartment building, or office in Nigeria, security is critical to everyone. Your property’s tenants want to rest assured that their employees and leased space are a safe, conducive, and secure work environment. Therefore, as a landlord/property manager in Lagos or any other part of Nigeria, it’s important to protect your facility from vandalism and burglary. This will help provide a safe environment for your property’s occupants to maintain building occupancy.

Crime and vandalism are ever on the rise, as burglars, robbers, vandals, and criminals are always looking for the next vulnerable apartment to attack. Therefore, these heinous acts must be stopped before they are perpetrated. This is why a reliable, up-to-date, and responsive security/surveillance system is a necessity in a high-rise building in Nigeria.

Video surveillance technology can prevent crime before it even happens. Whenever burglars or vandals see that an apartment building, condo complex, or high-rise has video cameras, they choose to target other places.

Four Key Areas to Install Security Cameras in High-Rise Buildings

Here are four key areas to install security cameras in high-rise buildings so your tenants and their employees feel safer and secure at work.

Interior common areas (including elevator lobby and the back of the house receiving areas): Having cameras at visible spots can deter thieves and vandals. Video surveillance technology also keeps and maintains a visual log of events around the public spaces of your facility.
Exterior common spaces (such as parking lots, the backs of buildings, and outside loading dock areas): These areas are usually some sort of unmanned “blind spots”, providing easy access for criminals to breach the building. For outstanding security, motion detection cameras that can trigger lights or audio recordings are a great investment.
Entry points to all common spaces: Integrating access control systems with video surveillance will go a long way to enhance your control and tracking of events and alarms through the entry points. If you are managing the building remotely, it is good to be able to verify the alarm and also determine who actually propped open the door.
Access control to elevators: The best way to secure your building from unauthorized access is to limit access to elevator after-hours to tenants only. An additional security strategy will be to restrict tenant access exclusively to just the part of the building that they lease. You can also combine these access control systems with video surveillance to beef up security on your property.
Some of the factors which may influence the type and sophistication level of security solutions you may deploy for high-rise buildings include the location of the building, number of floors, the types of businesses in your building (retail stores, offices, consulting firms, etc.), neighborhood and crime rates, foot traffic, etc.

Providing a safe and secure work environment for your building’s tenants will help to attract and maintain a long-term tenant base. Therefore, if you want to ensure a conducive space for your tenants, you need to deploy the best security solution there is. You can always consult with Trivest Technologies to design a robust, efficient, and responsive security system to meet your needs, help you maximize your security, and increase your ROI.

Science/Technology / Important Steps To Consider While Installing Wireless CCTV by Spazwik: 8:20pm On Nov 16, 2020

Wireless CCTV systems are a good mechanism for protecting your home, organization, or company. Since they do not require cumbersome wiring, installing wireless CCTV systems is quite easier, faster, and neater. Added to that, you get to save money on wiring costs and worry less about replacing wires when they are cut or burnt.

Here are some important steps to consider while installing wireless CCTV systems.

Find out the most suitable type of camera

There are different types of surveillance cameras and the installation process usually varies according to the different types of video surveillance cameras to be used. Some common examples are Bullet Cameras, PTZ Cameras (360-degree), Dome Cameras, Hidden Cameras, and Wide-Angle cameras. All of these have their peculiarities and uses, and your choice should be based on your specific security needs.

Therefore, ensure you make thorough research, inquiries, and consultations on the features you would like to have.

Choose the installation point for the camera

Knowing where to place your surveillance cameras goes a long way to determine how effective your system is. It’s also good to know how the maximum range your camera can cover and the proximity to a power source. This will also guide you in picking the best spot for your camera.

To make sure your cameras get a clearer and wider view, mount your camera high enough, and cover as many entries as possible using the least number of cameras to save cost. Further, place the camera on spots that are difficult to reach for home intruders, thieves, and naughty kids. It’s also important to consider the exposure of your camera to the elements.

Avoid pointing your camera directly towards a light source to reduce the underexposure of images and videos captured. As suggested by security experts, some of the best spots and locations for placing security cameras include the front door, the back door, and off-street windows.

Get the necessary installation tools and materials ready

If you’re doing your installation by yourself, you’ll definitely need many tools and materials. Some of these include anchors, screws, cables, an electric drill, a power adapter or receiver, and others. However, some all-in-one security camera systems often include screws and other necessary installation materials in the camera box.

Mount the camera properly

After you’ve found the best spot to mount your camera, drill holes to screw it on. This will make it sturdy and firm in position. Don’t forget to point your camera in the right position and use the right angle.

Connect the cameras and activate them

Once the cameras are fixed and every wiring is done, the next step is to connect your CCTV system and check if it’s well connected to the power source. It’s important to ensure that the view recorder and the monitor get a good power supply. Also, you should make provisions for an adequate power backup. This way, your wireless surveillance system can work uninterrupted even during a power outage.

Configure your CCTV system

Set up your CCTV camera and try to access it by smartphones, computers, and tablets. Make sure to get the updated mobile apps and desktop software for accessing your camera wherever you are. Check all these surveillance features available and configure them to suit your desires as much as possible.

When considering choosing or buying a new video surveillance system for your business, there are several options and products available in Nigeria. Hence, it is recommended that you look for devices that suit your needs. So, what are the major features to look for when choosing a video surveillance system for your facility? Let’s consider some.

Image Resolution and Frame Rate

This is one of the most important features to look at, when selecting a surveillance camera. You don’t want to go for cameras that produce blurry or grainy images, hence you need a camera with a minimum of 1080p high definition – an IP camera. Another key feature to consider before deciding on the purchase of a surveillance camera is the frame rate, which determines the smoothness of the video. The lower the frame rate, the less frequently a still image is taken, resulting in choppier footage.

Camera Model or Type

There are various types of security cameras in Nigeria today, such as bullet cameras, dome cameras, and pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras, which offer a remote-controlled adjustable field of vision. Also, some security cameras are designed for indoor use and won’t withstand exposure to the elements, unlike their outdoor counterparts. Therefore, ensure you opt for weatherproof models if they are for outdoor applications because of the harsh weather we experience in Nigeria.

Storage Capacity

This is an important feature to consider when choosing video recorders. You need to know the storage capacity you will need for your video surveillance system. This is often determined by several factors, such as the number of cameras in the system, the resolution of each camera, the amount and size of archived videos you intend to store, and how long you plan to store the recorded footage. Having many cameras recording in high resolution means the storage space will be used up quicker.

Camera Compatibility

Not every video recorder is compatible with every camera. Traditionally, Network Video Recorders require IP cameras while Digital Video Recorders use analog cameras. However, some NVR systems, only work with IP cameras from certain manufacturers. So, when purchasing a video recorder, ensure that the device is compatible with the other cameras you’ve bought.

Lighting

Some security cameras work in low light with the help of the “low-light infrared”, and therefore can capture clear footage in the dark. These cameras have infrared LEDs, which enable them to record darkened areas as if the recording in an illuminated room. On the other hand, some security cameras do not have this feature. Hence, you need to go for cameras infrared LEDs if capturing footage in the dark is a priority for you.

Other important features to look for when choosing video surveillance systems are the availability of audio recording options, cloud storage, and compression techniques of the video recorder. These factors ultimately determine how efficient your surveillance system works and the kind of output it gives.

Business / 5 Reasons Why Retail Stores Need Surveillance Cameras by Spazwik: 11:47pm On Sep 10, 2020

The retail industry is a big one and an endangered one at that. It’s a known fact that it is the sector with the highest number of shoplifting experiences, as thieves take advantage of security gaps to steal in retail stores, the industry loses huge profits every year to theft and shoplifting. In addition to that, serving customers satisfactorily is often a challenge for store employees especially during in-store promotions and peak sales periods. Far worse, the retail industry is also prone to more serious criminal activities such as burglary and armed robbery.

Due to these various threats to business growth, the safety of employees and customers, security is now a priority for retail store owners. Therefore, to gain a positive customer experience at the store, and for the safety of employees in retail stores, it is wise to invest in an effective IP-based video surveillance system.

Here are five major reasons why retail stores should consider deploying IP video surveillance to secure their stores.

Detecting and Preventing Theft

Theft is a commonplace in retail stores, mostly through shoplifting, and sometimes through armed robbery. Even employees can steal items off the shelves, too. To curb this and act as a deterrent for culprits, a retail store surveillance system can be installed to aid the detection of suspicious activity and identify perpetrators. Today, there are high-definition cameras equipped with Intelligent Video Analytics to detect suspicious activity and promptly notify the responsible person. To improve security, IP dome cameras can also be installed outside the store to keep an eye on store visitors and determine if the person entering is suspicious or not. Furthermore, even employees would not steal from the store if they know they’re being watched.

Remote Surveillance

Surveillance systems today can be integrated with mobile and desktop applications. Since they are IP-based, the footages can be viewed in real-time over the Internet anywhere. That means the owners or security administrator can remotely monitor the store even without being physically present onsite. In case of emergencies, through remote surveillance, the viewer can also contact registered personnel through the app itself.

Improved Customer Services

Every retail business longs to satisfy customers so they can keep coming back. However, store employees can sometimes be negligent and fail to attend properly to customers, and ultimately, damage your business reputation. IP cameras can help keep a watchful eye on the employees and assess how they relate with customers in real-time. Also, video surveillance footage can be used to confirm customer complaints and identify issues. Moreover, untrained attendants can be trained and corrected to improve their relationship with customers, and if needed, negligent employees can also be terminated.

Improved Staffing

An IP surveillance system can help determine the peak business hours when there is a larger population of customers. Consequently, more number of employees can be deployed to attending the customers during these peak hours. Alternately, this can also help reduce the need for hiring additional security personnel and thereby cut running costs

Safer Workplace

IP cameras can also help ensure a safer workplace by monitoring employees and watching the premises for potential safety risks. Also, it can help improve productivity as employees would be more responsible because they know they are being watched.

Properties / Building Automation For High Rise Buildings by Spazwik: 11:43am On Sep 03, 2020
Installing and configuring building automation for a high rise building makes it easier for the service provider company to manage a residential or commercial building, and it also caters to the service needs of the residents.

These automation systems may cover, electricity, heating, water supply, air conditioning, ventilation, security alarm, access control systems, internet service, cable TV, video surveillance, and gas. The system can provide vital information about service usage and also provide a statistics of all data for a period of time, all these are made possible by a central database that collates all the data and the management software that provides access to the residents through a mobile phone application or a website interface.

Building Automation has many improvements over time especially in the area of ensuring the operational performance of a facility as well as guaranteeing the comfort and safety of its building occupants.

Here are some major benefits of building automation in high rise buildings;

Smart Use Of Resources: In most high rise buildings, residents end up paying for unused resources since there’s no proper way to quantify or measure the usage of the building’s resource per section, but with the use of building automation systems, it becomes easier to measure/control the use of building resources thereby saving residents cost. The system will provide information about power consumption, internet usage, gas consumption, and so on. From the service provider’s perspective, services such as gas, power, internet, and water supply can be cut off if a resident refuses to pay.

Convenience For Residents: With the use of Building automation, it becomes easier for the residents of the building to manage their consumptions and even better understand their needs through the statistics the system generates.

Management Of Services: Management with building automation makes the job of the service provider easier, with the ability to control all systems remotely, monitor occupants of your building, and also ensure their security.

Security and Safety: Security is a big issue in high rise buildings because of the flow of traffic in and out of the building daily especially for buildings used for office spaces. With the use of automation systems, surveillance cameras and access control systems can be installed at strategic points around the building to keep track of visitors coming in and going out of the building, these systems can also be configured to notify the occupants or security personnel of the building if there seems to be a security breach.

Business / How To Secure Your Company Network With A Checklist by Spazwik: 12:48pm On Aug 18, 2020

Thanks to the internet, the world is now more connected than ever. While this seamless connectivity has tremendous advantages, it is also prone to various types of attacks. As a company with a network of devices used in carrying out your day-to-day business transactions, your business is a potential target for hackers and spammers. The larger the company network gets – the more users, the more devices, and the more applications you add to it – all these additions indefinitely make the network more vulnerable.
In this post, we share with you a checklist that will guide you on how to keep your company network secure against attacks.

Use a Strong Password Policy
Hackers are always on the lookout. Hence, it is necessary to use only strong passwords that are not easy to guess on your phones, computers, and online accounts. It’s not strange to have employees who use family members, dates, pets, favorite sports teams, and such as their password. However, you should put measures in place to prevent this from happening.
Good password policies often require at least eight characters, one lower case letter, one upper case letter, and one symbol or special character. Remember, the more uncommon your passwords are, the less likely they will be compromised. You can also make use of password managers like LastPass and Bitwarden to store passwords for your online accounts so you don’t have to memorize them.

Closely Monitor Your Traffic
Keep a close eye on incoming and outgoing traffic through an active firewall and read the reports with great care. It’s not safe to rely solely on alerts and prompts to flag suspicious activities. Ensure that your network engineers understand the traffic data and take necessary actions to avert potential risks.

Stay Up-to-date on New Threats
Keep an eye on new threats as they are discovered and published online. For example, software companies like Adobe, Microsoft, and Apple continually update their software to counteract cyberattacks in direct response to newly-found threats, bugs, and vulnerabilities in their software.
Firewalls and antivirus should be an integral part of every business’s network security plan. Your business is completely exposed without a firewall and your computers are completely naked without antivirus.

Restrict Guest Wi-Fi
If you want to avoid the hassle of setting up a connection to a private Wi-Fi for your guests, consider providing a public access point for them. However, attackers can exploit this to attack your network. Therefore, ensure your public Wi-Fi is separate from the rest of your business network.

Encrypt Backup Data
Every business needs a good data backup plan. Whichever one you prefer, cloud backup, physical backups, or both, backups help prevent data losses and enhance smooth business processes. Encryption secures your data against unauthorized access. Many cloud vendors offer this function, and for many there is also physical backup software with encryption ability you need.

Use Only Secure Networks
If your employees are allowed to work from home, you need to take steps to ensure they keep business data safe from unauthorized persons. Therefore, we recommend that you use a company VPN for workers to connect to when they work outside the office.

Crime / Essential Services Security Companies Provide by Spazwik: 12:27pm On Aug 18, 2020

Much like everything else, the security of lives and properties is necessary. Hence, security companies and service providers are important players in the welfare of people, especially in public spaces. Security officers are essentially responsible for keeping people safe, averting danger, avoiding casualties, and responding to emergencies. This is why they are often found everywhere – schools, clubs, office buildings, shopping malls, parks, and recreation centers.
Although security officers are often compared to police officers, there’s a clear distinction between the two. Most times, police officers typically intervene after the incident, but on-site security officers try to prevent crime and violence just by being present.
All over the world, security companies work round the clock to offer consistent security service to lives and assets. Some essential services security companies provide include:

Unarmed and Armed Security

Unarmed security officers perform close monitoring of a property and also secure assigned premises. It is also a part of their essential duties to oversee surveillance equipment, inspect buildings, assess security risks, and secure gates/entry points in their places of assignment. They are trained and certified to employ proactive security tactics to prevent losses and damage to properties. On the other hand, armed security personnel are those who have the license to bear arms and protect highly valuable goods.

Executive Protection

Security companies also guard high-level individuals – such as CEOs, politicians, public figures, and company executives – who may face threats because of their celebrity status, wealth, or political affiliation. Executive protection may be in the form of a security officer or personal bodyguard who is assigned to such a top-level executive. However, executive protection may also be provided by a team of security agents, who work in synergy with a corporate organization to identify what possible security threats exist and which of the executives need security.

Security Consultancy

Security companies also provide security consultations for personal properties or corporate organizations. They offer professional advice and technical insights on best strategies to protect business, property, and employees with minimal risks. They oversee the installation and deployment of up-to-date security hardware such as CCTV (closed-circuit television), motion detection systems, alarm systems, sensors, perimeter fences, and burglary protection systems for enhanced protection of lives and properties.

Undercover Investigations and Surveillance

Security companies also offer secret investigation and surveillance for clients who may require evidence or information on an entity of interest. This kind of discreet surveillance may be necessary for different reasons, such as to gather proof or gain top-secret information while the aim of an undercover investigation is usually to expose suspicious behavior or activity.

Mobile Patrol Services

Essentially, mobile patrol security officers work in corporate organizations like banks, financial institutions, and other companies that may require these services for 24/7 quick emergency response. They are often responsible for locking and opening premises, adjusting alarms, checking access points, and ensuring round-the-clock security of buildings and facilities. They also liaise with maintenance staff and contractors and perform random perimeter patrols to check for suspicious activity and report any potential security issues.

Business / What VPN Can Do For Your Company’s Security - Trivest Technologies by Spazwik: 10:58am On Aug 06, 2020
Business communications need to be secure, safe, and private. Corporate data, files, and information shared must be kept free from intrusion to ensure integrity is preserved. However, communicating over the Internet can expose corporate information to data breaches, intruders, and hackers. This is why all companies need a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to ensure the safety and security of their corporate data.
Although many only see VPN as a tool to surf the Internet anonymously, it does more than that. There are many benefits that a company can get using a VPN service, as we will explain later on in this post. But first, let’s tell you about a VPN.

What is a Virtual Private Network (VPN)?
A VPN is an Internet security technology that creates a secure (encrypted) connection between user devices and one or more servers, especially while using a public network. More particularly, a corporate VPN allows organizations to grant their employees and teams access to a secure end-to-end encrypted connection to cloud resources on the company’s internal network. Such resources include internal applications and confidential corporate data.
Furthermore, regardless of employees’ physical location, a business VPN also provides a secure network connection to the employee’s devices. Encrypting your company data secures it and makes it inaccessible for hackers, spies, malware, and competitors.

Corporate VPN vs. Consumer VPN: What are the differences?
While corporate VPNs and consumer VPNs perform similar functions, there are some distinguishing features. On the one hand, business VPNs are designed to protect business privacy and enhance data security against eavesdropping and hacking. On the other hand, consumer VPNs are generally used by individuals to unblock a website or service or to change IP addresses.

Also, business VPNs use a dedicated IP address with a dedicated server and are designed for multiple users. However, IP for consumer VPNs are usually shared with other users and are dynamic, that is, the IP addresses may change every time a user connects to the service.

Benefits of using a Business VPN
Other than the privacy, security, and encryption that business VPNs provide, here are some other added benefits of the technology:

Remote access
Your staff can work from the comfort of their home securely because a VPN service grants them end-to-end encrypted connection regardless of location. This ultimately enhances efficiency, output, and productivity because your employees work in their comfort zones.

Masked IP address
A business VPN masks your original IP address and gives you a temporary IP address instead. That means you need not worry about malicious tracking of your company’s internet and data activities. Therefore, you can transact and exchange sensitive information about your business without worrying about intrusion and hacking.

Enhanced performance
Because they block unwanted traffic, business VPNs also increase system speeds, optimize data transmission rates, and reduces transaction time and corporate expense. This translates to more proficient use of the Internet and the efficient usage of the company’s bandwidth.

In conclusion, boosting your company’s network security and online privacy doesn’t have to look so tedious. With a VPN, you get all of that and much more at your convenience.

We live in a digital world. It’s not even a theory or myth anymore. It’s common knowledge that digital technology drives almost every activity in the world today. Thanks to the ubiquity of mobile phones, there’s more to come than we can ever imagine. It’s the golden age of smartphones, smart cars, smart devices, and smart homes. But, what exactly is a smart home?

What is Home Automation/Smart Home?
Essentially, smart home or home automation technology generally refers to a set of appliances, devices, gadgets, or systems connected to a common network to allow one-way and centered access. This means that devices connected in a smart home can be independently and remotely controlled from your smartphone or through a mobile touch screen device. Hence, connecting your home devices such as lights, thermostats, TVs, audio speakers, locks, security cameras, and appliances to a central control system is referred to as automating your home.

Some might see home automation as a cool way to keep up with the trends. However, it’s much more than just buying the hype. It has a lot of practical advantages, especially for homeowners. So, let’s discuss some great advantages of smart home technology.

Energy Efficiency
Smart home technology lets you make your space more energy-efficient. With home automation technology, you can easily control numerous gadgets or appliances via a one-touch button or smartphone app. Not just that, there are intelligent devices like (thermostats, shades, and lights) which learn your schedule and preferences, and then suggest the best energy-efficient settings for your home. This does not only make you more efficient but also helps to conserve never have to worry about wasting electricity, especially when you are away from home.

Comfort and Convenience
Smart homes make domestic life more comfortable, fun, and convenient. Since your home gadgets are connected to a central interface, that means you can perform various domestic functions from a spot. All you’ll probably have to do is learn how to use the smart home app on your smartphone or tablet, and open yourself up to a world of immense possibilities. Far or near, regardless of your location, you can turn on lights, heat or cool the home, draw the shades, and monitor home security.

Security
In the wake of increased burglary and vandalism, home automation allows you to make your home more secure and protected from intrusion. With home automation technology, you can boost your territorial security by incorporating security and surveillance features in the network. Think motion detectors, fire alarms, surveillance cameras, and other security gadgets. Whether you’re home or far away, you can monitor activities in and around your home in real-time.

Flexibility
Another huge perk of home automation is its flexibility. It allows you to add new devices and appliances and other technology as you like. There will always be newer and more improved models of gadgets and appliances as time goes on, so you can upgrade your suite of devices by replacing older ones to fit your domestic needs.

Properties / Types Of Fire Alarm Systems And Their Uses by Spazwik: 9:42am On Jul 31, 2020
As a landlord or business owner, the importance of installing a responsive fire alarm system in your buildings cannot be overstated. In the event of a fire, a fire alarm system notifies your building’s occupants so they can evacuate to safety. Here are some other benefits of installing a fire alarm system.

In a business environment, an efficient fire alarm helps you protect your employees and properties.

However, from automatic to manual alarm options – there are several types of fire alarm systems available, which may or may not work for you. Hence, whether you are considering an upgrade of an existing system or desire to install new fire alarms on your property, it is important that you understand the different types of fire alarm systems available and how they work.

Manual and Automatic Fire Alarm Devices
Fundamentally, there are two different classes of fire alarm systems: manual or automatic. In manual fire alarm systems, pull stations or breakpoints are installed around the building so that occupants or employees can manually trigger them to alert others in the event of a fire.

On the other hand, automatic fire alarms are built to detect smoke or heat earlier, notify building occupants of potential danger, and convey the message to emergency first responders with audio-visual alerts. Furthermore, in addition to the aforementioned categories, fire alarm systems can also be classified as follows.

Conventional Fire Alarm Systems
In a conventional fire alarm system, several call points and detectors are hardwired to the main control panel in partitions called zones. Typically, a zone is a circuit in the fire alarm system which may be allocated circuit per floor or section. Allocating zones help to give a rough idea of the fire incident. This enhances fire management and building monitoring.

Addressable Fire Alarm Systems
This category of fire alarm systems is similar to conventional fire alarms. Addressable fire alarm systems can monitor all of the fire alarms in your building and indicate precisely which detector or call point triggered the alarm. In addressable fire alarms, the detection circuit is wired as a loop that can take up to 99 connected devices. Each alarm in these systems has its unique address, which allows you to monitor the status of each alarm and see if there are any issues.

Analogue Addressable Fire Alarm Systems
They are also called intelligent fire alarm systems. The primary purpose of analog addressable fire alarms is to help prevent false alarms, especially in large commercial premises. These systems are more complex and incorporate more facilities than conventional or addressable systems. They are also much more expensive and flexible.

There are different types of analog fire systems with detectors that are not intelligent. As an improvement, an intelligent analog addressable fire system has detectors and inbuilt computing units. These computing units evaluate the surrounding environment and appropriately communicate to the control panel to determine the exact event trigger – fire, fault, heat, smoke, or need for maintenance.

Wireless Fire Alarm Systems
Wireless fire alarm systems are more flexible, cheaper, easier to install, and more expensive than traditional wired fire alarm systems. These types of fire alarms use secure, license-free radio networks to interconnect sensors and devices with the controllers. Wireless fire alarms provide just as much protection as conventional wired systems except that they do not require wires.

Installing a fire alarm system alone is not enough, you have to schedule maintenance and testing periods to ensure the system gives you 100% efficiency whenever an emergency happens. Contact Trivestgroup on +234-802-230-6494 or forward a mail to contact@trivestgroup.com for all your emergency system installation needs today.
