BusinessCustoms Unveil E-auction Platform For Vehicles by Spazwik(op): 4:53pm On Jul 04, 2017
The Nigeria Customs Service on Monday unveiled an electronic auction platform by which cargoes that had been forfeited to the Federal Government could be sold to Nigerians through a transparent bidding process.

The unveiling of the e-auction platform was performed at the headquarters of the NCS by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd.).

Present at the event were members of the e-auction committee made up of representatives of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Standards Organisation of Nigeria, and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, among others.

Ali described the inauguration of the platform as a game-changer for the service as it would bring about a regime of transparency and consistency in the disposal of seized vehicles to Nigerians.

He said the approval of the electronic platform was done based on the conviction that it would assist in checking the abuse, which the manual auction process was subjected to in the past.

Ali stated that it was the realisation of the abuse in the manual auctioning system that made him to suspend it when he assumed office last year.

He said, “The launching of the e-auction platform today marks a complete departure from the manual process of the past that was opened to abuses.

“In the past, stakeholders had accused the service of nepotism, short-changing the government of revenue through arbitrary auction fees to be paid by allottees, and sundry corruption allegations against the service.”

How to make Beef & Spinach Stew (Shoko)

https://www.dailydigest.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/spinachstew.jpg

This hearty and spicy stew from Ghana is scrumptious. Don't let the number of pepper scare you off, it is actually milder than anticipated. If you like your beef stew hot, feel free to add as much pepper as your taste buds can allow. Give this stew a go!

Method
1. Wash the beef and cut into cubes. Dice the onions, tomatoes, green chili and tatase and set aside. Also, chop the spinach and mince the garlic and set aside.
2. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Brown the beef in the oil for few minutes then transfer to a bowl.
3. Heat the remaining oil in the same pan and saute the onions and garlic until the onions begin to turn golden. Add the tomatoes and cook for few minutes, stirring occasionally. Add water if necessary to prevent the mixture from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
4. Add the ginger, green chili and tatase and cook for few minutes, stirring occasionally. Add 1 cup of water and the seasoning cubes, alternatively add 1 cup of beef stock.
5. Add the beef and stir. Adjust seasoning. Cover the saucepan, reduce the heat and allow to cook for about an hour. Add the spinach and cook for about 10 minutes.
6. Serve with rice or pasta.

How to make Potato & Pepper Hash

Hosting friends and family and looking for a breakfast that is simple and scrumptious, pull out this recipe. This will suit both hungry bellies and picky eaters and they will not stop singing your praise. Let me add that this is a vegan recipe.

Method

1. You will need to boil the potatoes and boil for about 15 minutes or until they are tender. Drain off the water and allow to cool. Dice the onions to fill ½ cup and set aside.
2. While the potatoes are cooking, cut the rodo and tatase into ½ inch thick rings. Remove the seeds by placing them under running water and pressing the seeds out with your thumb.
3. Heat the 2 tablespoons of oil in a frying pan over medium-low heat, add the onions, rodo and tatase and cook for about 10 minutes. While cooking the rodo and tatase, slice the potatoes to ½ inch thick.
4. Add the garlic, paprika and ½ teaspoon of salt to the pan. Stir and cook for 1 minute. Add 1 teaspoon of oil and increase the heat to medium-high heat. Add the potatoes and saute until they are heated through and begin to brown.

InvestmentHere’s How To Trick Your Brain Into Spending Less by Spazwik(op): 1:21pm On Jun 28, 2017
In an ideal world, you wouldn’t have to spend less money; you’d instead you’d march to your bank and withdraw just any you want. But this isn’t an ideal world—and most of us have to watch what we spend.

We’re not saying you should stop spending altogether—that’s impossible—but these five super helpful ideas can help trick your brain to spending smarter. So instead of waving goodbye to that hard-earned cash, utilize every kobo and get the most out of your paycheck, starting today.

Save. Save. Save

Saving money doesn’t have to mean hiring a financial consultant or cutting your flexible spending budget. Whether you’re saving up for a big item or just trying to pay your monthly bills , money-pinching doesn’t have to be an arduous experience.

Start small

If you’re overwhelmed by choices, it’s easy to do nothing. “Instead of trying to save a little bit on everything, focus on your two biggest discretionary expenses, like eating out and shopping. Over the following months, you’d be able to cut expenses down drastically.

Think things through

First, always give serious thought to your purchase. Pressured? Rushed? You’ll spend more recklessly. Make a few changes to your usual spending routine, and start having more money in a painless way.

Examine your finances regularly

Is your budget fine the way it is? So-called status quo bias means you’ll keep paying what you’re paying – credit cards, pay TV bills – unless you have a compelling reason to.

Ditch the Joneses

The truth: Frugal can still be fun. There are more ways to fulfillment than a shopping binge or dinner out with the happening guys in town. Prices can vary considerably between stores. A little research can save you a lot.

If most you aren’t as financially successful as them, then it makes sense to do what they do. Just because everyone else is getting a new car every five years doesn’t mean you should.

BusinessThis Is How Yo Get Your Business Finances In Order by Spazwik(op): 2:02pm On Jun 23, 2017
Being an entrepreneur, you’re most likely be more concerned about starting and running your business, forgetting the most important aspect — financial control. Fine, your business might be enjoying a lot of patronage, and you don’t see a reason to put those finances in order, but this is key. Poor management of financial activities have the linked to be the most common cause of business failure.

Managing your business finances may appear to be, challenging, and often is, but it is extremely important. It helps you to project where your business is headed, and when you know exactly how your revenue and expenses are stacking up, you can begin to make more informed decisions for your business.

You sure don’t want to end up being a failure at business. So, it’s time to get those finances in order.

Here are tips to make it work:

Keep your personal and business finances separate

This should be first on your to-do-list when it comes to putting your finances in order. That new bicycles for your kids isn’t a business expense, but your business debit card was handy so you used it. Sure, you can pay back your business for a personal expenditure, but mixing your personal and business finances will inevitably result in confusion.

If you’re going to do it right you actually have to record an accounting transaction. Things get complicated fast, and you don’t need that headache. To be successful in business, you need to be able to monitor and track your key performance indicators. You need to know some of the most important elements such as cash flow, expenses, revenue, profit and so on.

Know your tax responsibilities

Depending on the type of business you’re running, your tax responsibilities will vary. There are several types of tax payments for businesses in Nigeria. Get to know about them, so you won’t be defaulting and be asked to pay during the pressing time for your company.

There’s PAYE for employees, and many others. Being unaware of these responsibilities can be costly, and you can be prone to penalties, interest and fees. Ensure you consult with the FIRS, the body in charge of revenue and tax-collection in Nigeria. It’s also a good idea to consult with an accountant.

Plan Ahead

Clients come and go, projects ramp up and shut down. You, on the other hand, still have to feed and meet up with your expenses. This means you need to plan ahead. Begin by monitoring your finances and projecting future revenue and expenses, as it will enable you to make better long-term decisions for your business.

If you aren’t looking at the future of your business, you could be taken by surprise. But by making future plans, you’ll be able to mitigate unwanted surprises. Even if unexpected expenses do rise, if you’ve been practicing conservatism in your spending, you shouldn’t run into any major problems.

Budget and Track Expenses

Part of staying organized and planning ahead should include creating a budget, as playing fast and loose with the check-book can get you in trouble in a few ways. First, it can mess with your cash flow, which is the reason many businesses fail. Also, when you lose track of what you’re spending, you could be missing out on valuable deductions for your business.

The importance of a budget could be equated with the value of a well-formed business plan. Make a budget and use it as your guide. It’s a framework that you can use to help you make clear-headed decisions, whether it’s increasing your marketing spend, or cutting expansion costs to keep your profits on track.

Hire an Accountant

Since the days of the abacus, accountants have been trusted and respected allies to small business owners everywhere. Their intimate knowledge of the profession as well as tax laws in their jurisdiction will save you money almost every time. It might be tempting to want to save money and do it yourself, but it’s almost never more cost-efficient in the end.

An accountant will almost always find more deductions and keep you penalty-free. On that note, the cleaner your records, the fewer billable hours you’ll have to pay, so make sure you’re organized year-round. But when things get technical, save yourself the money, time and headaches and call in a trusted professional.

Career3 Times You Have Our Go-ahead To Take A Break From Work by Spazwik(op): 1:52pm On Jun 23, 2017
Been working 10 hours every day at the office lately? There is acute unemployment in Nigeria, we know, but a 70-hour work week? Being stressed at work can be a major cause of health problems, not to mention strained relationships and depression—even if you love your job.

Check out these reasons to take a break from work, and we totally give you our go-ahead.

Working for hours non-stop

When you work on a task for too long, you will become tired, no matter what will-power tells you. So, take a break, even for a moment, you may be even more behind with work piled up waiting for you, but your health will thank you.

Moreover, small breaks can help increase your productivity, decrease in fatigue, boost concentration, motivation, and energy in the workplace. No matter the duration, a time-out helps you press the reset button and be better prepared to move forward.

A hostile work environment

Rather than allowing arguments explode with anger, it’s better to take a breather. This basically means removing yourself from a deadlocked situation so you have time to cool off and gain clearer perspective. It’s a healthy way to manage your emotions before things get out of control.

So, before you and that colleague start butting heads, press pause on the debate and revisit it later. Spend some time aside to mull it over more, and then have a one-on-one with the other person.

Having trouble solving a problem

When you walk away from a problem and cease staring at your computer screen helplessly, the solution will magically appear. In other words, even a short interruption from what you’re doing helps wake up your creativity and generate new ideas. It allows you to replace the stale thoughts you’ve been trying to escape with fresh (and better) ones.

So, it’s time you tried a different environment and stop forcing yourself to think about problems when your mind would rather wander away.

How to make Gbegiri (Bean Soup)

https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/live-supermart/recipe_images/8a89WvRdBLZJXzh85Ynq.jpeg

Prepare this soup for anybody from Ibadan and they will love you. It may be quite a process but it is delicious and that more than makes up for the effort put in. The popular way to have gbegiri is with amala and ewudu...So finger licking good!!!

Method

1. Clean the chicken and put in a pot. Add in seasoning cube, garlic powder, ½ diced onion and some water. Allow to cook for about 15 minutes. Turn off the heat and pour the stock into a bowl. Set aside. Any other meat/fish can also be used for gbegiri.
2. Soak the beans in water, peel and strain the shaft. Put a pot over medium heat, add in the peeled beans and water to cover it. Allow to cook until very tender so it mashes very easily.
3. You may need to add in more water as it cooks but make sure the water is always the same level with the beans, not too much or too little.
4. Using a masher, start to mash the beans. Alternatively for a smoother consistency use a blender. Pour the contents into a bowl. Set aside.
5. Blend the peppers, ½ onion and crayfish.
6. Put a pot over medium heat and allow the palm oil heat up. Pour in ½ onion (chopped). Allow to fry for about 3 minutes. Add in the blended pepper and stock. Allow to fry until the pepper thickens.
7. Pour in the beans puree and stir. Cook for 5 minutes and then check if the oil has started blending in with the ingredients. Also check that there is enough seasoning, if not add to taste. Leave to continue cooking, remember to stir every now and then to prevent it from burning.
8.Cook until the mixture is well incorporated and you achieve a light yellow colour all round, no palm oil floating at the edges. Add in the chicken (whole or shredded) sometime before the soup is fully done, depending on how soft you want it.
9. Serve with amala and stew. You can also have it with ewedu just like they do in Ibadan.

Travel50 Nigerians Apply For Italian Visa With Fake Documents Monthly – SFU by Spazwik(op): 3:52pm On Jun 21, 2017
The Police Special Fraud Unit, Lagos has expressed concern over increasing number of Nigerians allegedly involved in using fake documents to seek for Italian visa.

The spokesman of the unit, ASP Lawal Audu, on Sunday, said the Italian Embassy sends an average of 50 Nigerian Passports with fake documents to SFU monthly.

Audu noted that before now, Canada used to complain of such high numbers of fake documents, adding that attention had shifted to Italy now.

The Italian Embassy sent to SFU about 50 Nigerian Passports monthly with complaints of forged documents, and more than 15 persons to court for presenting fake document between January and May 2017.

Documents the applicants always forged include bank statements, health insurance certificates, invitation letters from Italy, letters of introduction and letter of employment from multinational companies.

“Italian Consulate normally checks all supporting document for any applicant. They are very meticulous in checking. “We have many passports with such complaints in large numbers.

“Once any embassy or high commission discovers irregularities in any application, they request the applicant to come to SFU for clearance; many never came to us.

‘‘After waiting for some time, we go out to look for such applicants.

“Many of the applicants used fake names and addresses. Even their mobile phone numbers are with fake names and addresses. Some phone numbers have babies names for registration,” Audu noted.

The image maker said that a major challenge faced by the unit was difficulty in tracking applicants due to lack of national data for identity. He further advised that members of the public should desist from patronising visa vendors as it can have adverse effect on their identities, which may affect them in future.

PhonesIphone 5 And Ipad 4 Users In Trouble, Apple Warns by Spazwik(op): 3:53pm On Jun 20, 2017
Apple, the producer of iPhone 5 or iPhone 5c, has confirmed that the users of the particular brand will be in trouble soon following planned introduction of a new operating system which would render the named phones useless. The new operating system iOS11, set to be rolled out later this year will effectively make the iPhone 5 and and 5c device obsolete in terms of Apple’s ecosystem.

According to the news.com.au, the software update will run only on devices with a 64-bit processor, meaning it won’t be compatible with the guts of the iPhone 5 or iPhone 5c that feature 32 bit processors.

The same goes for the iPad 4. While the phone will still work (and it’s a little bit amazing that it still does), users won’t be able to download the latest apps or security upgrades to protect against hackers and vulnerabilities. Such a move has previously been hinted at by Apple, with users opening 32-bit software in iOS 10.3 being met with a message saying the app will not work with future versions of iOS. And back in 2015, Apple told developers that all new apps had to be written in 64-bit code.

When the expected change was reported earlier this year, a number of readers expressed disappointment saying they preferred the more compact size of the old device, which is notably smaller than its successors.

But the first two generations of the iPhone 5 are certainly getting old.

The first iPhone 5 went on sale nearly five years ago and was the last Apple smartphone to be overseen by Steve Jobs. It was the company’s second iPhone to support five major versions of iOS: six, seven, eight, nine and 10. But that run has now come to an end.

This dish is flavorful, straight down to the fish bones. It is a fusion of herbs and spices with the rich flavor of fish. It is simply delicious! This stew goes well with rice, pasta, boiled yam and plantain and you can infuse your own flavor. Dang!

Set aside in the fridge and marinate for 30 minutes or overnight.
2. When ready the use, remove fish from the fridge and lightly shake off marinate sticking out. Heat ½ cup vegetable oil in a saucepan until hot. Add the fish and cook for about 3 minutes on both sides. Remove fish and set aside.

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 200 degree centigrade and line the baking tray with foil. Boil the eggs for about 10 minutes, remove shells. Set aside.
2. Heat the coconut oil in a frying pan. Add the onions (chopped) and fry for about 10 minutes or until translucent. Pour into a large mixing bowl and allow to cool.
3. Add the sage, nutmeg and salt to taste to the bowl of fried onions and mix. Add the minced meat and mix well with your hands.
4. Put half of the minced meat mixture on the foil-lined tray and pat into an oval shape. Place the eggs along the base of the meatloaf each one touching the one in front. Gently pat the rest of the meat mixture on top of the eggs to cover them.
5. Cover with the streaky bacon, overlapping each one as you go until the meatloaf is covered. Put in the oven and bake for 1 hour.

Romance7 Things You Must Know Before Marriage by Spazwik(op): 4:02pm On Jun 15, 2017
Whether you’re still dating or newly engaged, you should know these 7 things before getting married. They’ll make sure you’re traveling the road to wedded bliss, with way fewer bumps along the way.

1. Communication is important

If you and your partner don’t communicate well, get to work. Communication doesn’t get easier over time, and as life gets more serious as you think work, money, kids, getting hitched to a partner you can’t talk to is a marriage DON’T.

Before you even get engaged, make sure you and your partner can talk about anything, and make sure you do.

2. Don’t marry a stranger

A 2014 National Bureau of Economic Research study found that marriage does indeed lead to increased well-being, mainly thanks to friendship.

Don’t marry a stranger and hope you’ll become compatible over time. Be good friends. Start with a solid foundation of love, shared values, common interests, and trust.

3. Don’t expect your partner to change

People do change, but not in predictable ways. If she doesn’t want children, assume she’ll always not want children. If he has a temper, assume he’ll always have a temper.

If you try to change the other person, why were you with them in the first place? For hope that they would change? It’s hard enough to change yourself. How can you hope to survive if you have to change both yourself and someone entirely different from you.

4. You’ll learn certain habits about your partner by living together

If you haven’t yet lived with your partner, you can’t know everything about him/her, like whether he or she is wasteful or frugal at home, how often he talks to friends and family, whether he’ll pitch in around the house, and whether he actually goes to bed at the same time as you.

Marriage reveals a lot, and you should get ready to expect habits you weren’t even looking forward to.

5. Kids change everything

First it’s you and your partner. Then, it’s you and your partner and a new human being.

This human being in one foot tall, doesn’t speak, cries and screams all the time, and poops on the floor. Lives in your house, and will dies if you don’t watch it 24 hours a day. With the new entry, your daily routine with your partner might no longer be the same, your topics of discussion might also slightly change. A lot would change really. It’s like a brand new family.

6. Nobody wins an argument

“But he’s wrong!” “But you’re wrong!”

This doesn’t matter. There is no winner once a voice is raised. Knowing this is the difference between a relationship that survives until tomorrow and a relationship that dissolves in one night.

7. You’ll never get to know your partner perfectly

After dating someone for a couple of years, you might feel like you know everything about them: what kind of toothpaste they use, which foods nauseates them. But you probably don’t know them quite as well as you think you do.

According to a 1997 study, couples who had been together longer expressed more confidence in how well they knew each other. But as it turns out, relationship length wasn’t related to accuracy.
