I believe there's a difference btw being the best player and playing for the winning team.

Over the past couple years, chelsea and bayern have won the champions league, yet didnt produce the ballon dor winner.

They obliterated every team they came across including messi's barcelona yet neither Ribery nor Robben was deemed good enough for the best player of the year award. Everyone shouted when Ronaldo led Portugal over Sweden in the play offs...no one asked what they were doing playing the play offs in the first instance.

It's not just about being part of the winning team, it's being the best player and that's what the award is for.

Ronaldo is one the best goal scorers football has ever seen...dude's a goal machine. But I think Messi is a better all round footballer.

In conclusion, I don't think either of them is deserving of every year they've won the ballon d'or.

Messi sure would have been in the top three every year back then. Such is his consistency and football understanding.
I can't say same for Cristiano though as football then wasn't just about being the highest goal scorer or playing for the champions league winning team.
That said, we can't take away the hard work and focus of these two guys.
If we must blame someone, let's blame the voters and not these two.
