Atouke, Udom has not been very good at marketing his achievements and the people advising him are doing a poor job. In politics you can not underestimate the power of propaganda, especially positive propaganda, if you are achieving something, say it, get it out there, let the whole nation know. That is where Akpabio beats him, I knew every project Akpabio was doing in Akwa Ibom, while I was living the UK. Those Documentaries, he use to do on YouTube, some where repetitive but he keep doing it, because, if you repeat something enough times people do indeed start to believe it. Then adverts on National TV and on Bill Boards. If my view, udom is not a bad Governor given the situation in the country, he is definitely among the top 5 in the country at the moment, but he just is not a good politician, when it comes to things like this and may have a hard time returning for a second term, despite his potential under a better central government. Because the general public are not impressed by big English but results that is translated into the simplest form as possible. Thank you for the pictures! |

silastemplar: The US economy is 9 times bigger than Mexico's economy, but America is still entering a trade deal with them. I don't think he has abandoned it too, but going slow is not a good thing either. Nigeria should be taking charge because by virtue of our economy and population. Especially within West Africa, ECOWAS, should be our home market, and all the wealth will move to Nigeria and the very poor people will move to other smaller African Countries. |

Great more borrowing, After na PDP go come pay am back. But what did the PDP do in 16 years with booming oil? but what no body will ask, what did the military do with all the money during their regime, especially Buhari's first recession regime and his friend Abacha's and IBB's regime |

billyG: I am interested in economics because I am interested in making money. How many have Nigeria agreed on and implemented? Why are all this other more successful countries, so interested in it, if it is nonsense? Okay, look at a small country like Singapore (population and land wise), why is it so successful? Why is Rwanda's economy, booming today? well, their president took time to travel the world and learn how other countries previously poor, managed to become rich, by implementing those policies that country is the second fastest growing economy in the world today (No oil). Come on man, do the research. I am not an economist but this is the science of how to make money and I am not willing to take last in making money. |

silastemplar: what does mexico produce locally? compared to the USA and Canada Nigeria does produce but no market to sell to, so business fails, especially in Africa. Nigeria should negotiate against buying of goods from china a reselling because Nigeria has the biggest economy in the AU, it is the leverage we have for negotiation. Also, remember we live is a global world companies move up and down, looking for the best country to set up, produce and export from, this creates employment and tax revenue. Nigeria with large population and proximity to sea, strong financial institutions and economy is a benefit. compared to the rest in Africa. |

jomoh: Russia is a traditional enemy of the west, due to the cold war, so they don't allow Russia to be a part of it. But Russia has free trade agreements with former USSR state Currently nine countries (Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Tajikistan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan) from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) ratified a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which provides the free movement of goods within the territory of the member states. However, the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has resulted in a severe disruption of trade between the two countries. For Donald Trump, his strategy was to renegotiate a new trade deals to be more favorable to the US, because USA being the bigger country with the bigger market and economy has more power in the agreement. He has now finished renegotiating it. it is now called USMCA, it is mostly the old NAFTA agreement with a few minor changes. Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer is opening a new front in his party’s fight against the revamped NAFTA deal, saying he would have done better than Justin Trudeau. Finally, if Nigeria is to become the giant of Africa then Nigerian influence must be felt in every corner of Africa, through trade and exporting our culture. The only part to wealth for Nigerians is through trade. And we have our population and large economy as leverage over every other country in Africa. So we can negotiate against what we don't like. Read about the Austrian School of economic, if you are interested in the theory of how countries get rich. It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest.

gare: this how Hitler started, giving himself powers over constituted authority and established norms Slowly placing themselves above, the law and the decree as sacrosanct. Maduro in Venezuela dissolved the senate and created his own of family members and friends. this is how the all start, slowly eroding democratic institutions meant to keep the president in check so he doesn't abuse his powers. Absolute power corrupts absolutely that's why we have this institutions because no matter how well intention anyone maybe, they can be corrupted by power. |

ogunnoikitaiwo: I don't give a sh*t about tribalism. I hate all Nigerians equally. Yoruba's a mostly frauds and cowards, Igbos are thieves and liars and Hausa/Fulani are backwards thinking terrorist and Niger deltans are stupid thugs. But having lived in the west for a long time, I believe that to build a better Nigeria, we all need each other and learn from successes in other countries, especially in Asia. Trade is the best way to lift a country out of poverty, why is china building the new silk root? the one belt on road initiative? Nigerians can specialize in one thing and other African countries specialize in others and we trade among ourselves. that is what restructuring is aiming to accomplish and that is what this African trade deal is aiming to accomplish. it is a fundamental idea in economics that by so doing we can increase wealth. That is basic idea behind the EU and America and why it succeeds. |

Mynd44: That is why negotiation is necessary for this type of agreements, Nigeria being a powerhouse with a strong economic team can go there and negotiate a good deal for naija. And we produce alot of things in naija but due to lack of export markets and routes but trust nigeria will produce anything, if the is a market for it and government encourage it. |

billyG: you are not a good economics student are you? why do countries want to enter the EU? why does the UK, still want access to the single market after brexit? why does the US, Canada and Mexico have NAFTA? why is china championing the building of the new silk road, the one belt on road initiative? what did Adam Smith say about trade? read up the benefits of this trade agreements and their disadvantages. To put it simply, this trade deal is necessary, for that better naija we are all dreaming of, but if buhari does not like something about it, he should send a team to negotiate and iron it out. 3 Likes |

Atiku Abubakar lists all the companies he owns Below is some information on his companies: 1. Intels Intels Nigeria Limited provides integrated logistics services for the Nigerian oil and gas industry. It offers agency services; cargo services; port management and support services in shore bases; and manages client operations, including pipe racks, stacking areas, warehousing, enclosed areas, jetties, offices, water tanks, fuel storage, generators, compressors, and various other services and facilities. 2. Prodeco Prodeco operates in Nigeria with two companies: Prodeco (Property Development Company) operating within the main territory of Nigeria and Prodeco International operating in Oil & Gas Free Zones. The first company was incorporated in March 1996 as a property development company. Over the years, PRODECO has engaged in building, marine, and infrastructural construction for various clients in the oil and gas industry. 3. Atiku Abubakar farm He also has a farm in Adamawa state. In 1981 he moved into agriculture, acquiring 2,500 hectares of land near Yola to start a maize and cotton farm. The business fell on hard times and closed in 1986. "My first foray into agriculture, in the 1980s, ended in failure," he once said in 2014. However, since then his farm has expanded and blossomed. 4. ABTI schools The major part of this is the American University of Nigeria (AUN). It is located in the city of Yola, capital of Adamawa, one of Nigeria's 36 states. Politics / Boko Haram: 18 Soldiers Killed, Scores Missing In Latest Military Base Invasion by speedyGonzales: 4:23pm On Oct 12, 2018 |
18 soldiers killed, scores missing in latest Boko Haram invasion of Nigerian military base Multiple military sources have separately confirmed to PREMIUM TIMES that a Boko Haram gunfire which erupted at a base of Nigerian soldiers in Borno State on Monday was far greater in severity than the military publicly admitted. At least eighteen soldiers were confirmed killed, eight battling to survive at the hospital after being critically wounded and about 157 feared missing when insurgents raided an outpost of 157 Battalion in North-eastern Nigerian village of Metele, military sources said. Those missing comprised 151 soldiers and six officers. The wounded were evacuated about 115 kilometres from Metele to the 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital, as well as the remains of the 18 killed in action, sources said. Heavy military equipment including at least two T-72 tanks, two armoured personnel carriers and two gun trucks were either set ablaze or rendered “unserviceable” by the insurgents, PREMIUM TIMES learnt. The Nigerian Army acknowledged the attack on Twitter late Monday, saying the heavy firefight was ongoing even though it appeared to have ended at that time having been on for about seven hours before the tweet was posted, according to military sources. In an update on Wednesday, the army confirmed also on Twitter that soldiers sustained losses, but put the casualties at seven for troops and seventy six for the insurgents. It also said sixteen soldiers were wounded. But the army did not acknowledge that scores of soldiers remained unaccounted for, and their commanders already feared they had gone missing in action. The commanders also confirmed that 18 soldiers were killed, contrary to only seven which the army publicly owned up to. Before the attack, at least 15 officers and 470 soldiers were on ground at the base in Metele, a strength that was significantly depleted in the aftermath. Ahmed Dikko, the theatre commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, visited the Kinnasara Cantonment to rally the troops on Tuesday, informing them about what transpired in Metele before visiting the wounded at the hospital. It was not immediately clear how military authorities are treating the case of the 157 missing soldiers. The chief of army staff, Tukur Buratai, warned a few weeks ago that there would be harsh consequences for any soldiers who abandoned their position in the face of firepower from Boko Haram. The warning followed weeks of heavy military losses in a war President Muhammadu Buhari and military chiefs had long proclaimed victory. Scores of soldiers have been killed or wounded in action and hundreds missing in a string of insurgents’ assaults on military bases since July. The Boko Haram insurgency has caused the death of about 100,000 people since 2009, according to the Borno State Government, whose state is most affected by the insurgency. Due to the efforts of the military and other security agencies, the terror attacks have been largely limited to Adamawa, Borno and Yobe since 2016. Before then, attacks were carried out in many Northern Nigerian states including Kano, Nasarawa and Abuja. Despite the efforts of the military, however, the latest attacks show the terrorists are still able to carry out attacks on civilian and military targets. |
