Just In: Peter Obi files petition to nullify Tinubu’s victory

The Labour Party (LP) and it’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, have filed a petition challenging the victory of Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s president-elect in the February 25 election.

The petition was filed at the Presidential Election Petition Court in Abuja on Tuesday, March 21.

The petition marked: CA/PEPC/03/2023, has the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Tinubu, his running mate, Senator Shettima and the APC as the 1st to 4th Respondents.

The petitioners are praying for the tribunal to declare that Tinubu was not duly elected by a majority of the lawful votes cast at the election.

They pray the court to cancel the February 25 presidential election and order a fresh poll.

Specifically, the petitioners alleged that at the time of the election, Tinubu was not qualified to contest.

They equally argued that the election was invalid by reason of corrupt practices and non-compliance with the provision of the Electoral Act, 2022.

Tuesday, being the 21st day since the declaration of the results of the election on 1 March, is the last day he as well as any other aggrieved candidates and political parties have to file their petition in court.
