Lucasbalo: I have always said that critiquing your leadership is the highest form of Patriotism. I am a big critic of our Mayor here in Chicago and it's for a just reason. I was a big supporter of Jonathan but turned against him whenever I visit Nigeria and see the way the country was being run. I was arrested with bunch of other guys protesting in front on the Nigeria's consulate in New York in the dying days of YarAdua when the Northern cabals were trying to frustrate Jonathan from becoming the President. He lost me when the country went down the drain. I will give Buhari a chance of at least 2 years and if things don't improve, I will take my gloves off like most fair minded Nigerians will. I just want the country to step up the plate and become viable economically. An Eldorado doesn't need to be looked at as a Junk. |

EazyMoh: when we were busy collecting our PVC you were busy plotting how to postpone the election. BTW my state has the highest PVC collection. The South was fond of withholding the election result until every state from the North result is released, then they would inflate theirs to double ours. But in 2015 everyone knows the total number of registered users, an icing on the cake, we also know how many collected the PVC. Therefore inflation is impossible! NB Era of rigging is over, better start thinking how you can sensitize your people on registration, PVC collection, and the voting itself. If not, t height be educationally backward, but we are very conscious, politically. |

obailala: For all those calling out Rochas for not fixing a major federal road, is this a case of sheer ignorance or is it a case of willful mumuism?
The contract for this road was awarded since the time of Yaradua, no work was ever done on it until the then governor of Rivers State, the Lion of Ubima decided to take it upon himself to fix the Rivers state axis of the road to a marvelous state.
This road was one of my biggest problems with my Igbo brothers in the last administration; during the elections, some dubious Igbo miscreants were deceiving fellow unsuspecting Igbos and the world at large that GEJ had fixed this road and my people were jumping around that GEJ was a messiah to the SE. As a matter of fact, this road was dubiously mentioned twice in the list of GEJ's achievements in the south east zone; - PH to owerri road (fixed) - Elele to owerri road (fixed)
But it was a lie.... Man's inhumanity to man. As a matter of fact, GEJ's five year regime never completed a single major project in the entire SE zone, except for appointing a generous number of self-serving men/women to go enrich themselves. I am still yet to understand the kind of love portion that GEJ injected in the waters in the SE. |

Rich4god: Why is it that Nigerian churches prefer to convert one another than to go out, looking for non believers to convert to Christ. I still don't understand how changing from one church to another will help us grow. Most of our preaching thee days is mainly based on material things rather than ways to grow in our faith.
I honoured a friends invite to his Church sometime last month, and since then, the church workers unit don't want to give me a break. They keep calling me telling to come worship with them on Sundays. If to say them dey preach for me to improve my Christian life, it would have been better. All they are after is just to make me a me.
I don't want to start talking about the numerous flows in their preaching, cos I know that every church have its own flows when judged from another's perspective. |

Abati, tho as a paid writer, has definitely been deluded by ethnocentrism. The only reason he propounded as to why E.K Clark should support Jonathan was because of ETHNIC AND EMOTIONAL attachment.... Same thing that has turned our resource rich country to a redundant poor one.
Abati shld wonder...why did we vote in for Jonathan in 2011 ( well I did) and we turned our back against him in 2015??. Even Ondo, being governed by PDP, voted massively for the PMB. this is what we call democracy...and a government of the people.
Abati may be right, from his myopic point of view; but E.K. Clark is not wrong from the common and national interest point of view. |

realborn: Two key acknowledgements deduced from the article:
1. She affirmed that once the leader takes decisive actions in deference to one sector, the message is felt across others - "body language"
2. She hinted that her returning to the government the second time may have been 'unwisely'. Somehow smirked of innate regrets with how she has been associated with an alleged overtly corrupt government of the time.
My thoughts:
I think it is only those who have decided to remain completely obdurate and adamant with their views that will not give an iota of support for the ongoing efforts of this government to abate corruption.
I strongly believe that in 4 years, the questions our friends of other nationalities will be asking us will change from "how come a feckless hat wearing leader is governing over intelligent Nigerians" to "wow, you guys are so lucky with the President you have. We wish we are as lucky as you"

While I do appreciate her candor in admitting her failure and speaking glowingly about PMB, I'm curious to know why politicians & public officials suddenly become Patriotic when they lose the patronage & glamour of office - case in point, Edwin Clarke & NOI.

Look in the 21ST century, any commander in chief who allows opposition to destabilize his government (using boko haram) with all the resources at his disposal is not fit to be the commander in chief in the first place. Any commander in chief who allows the opposition to rig him out (election /Jega) having control all the instrument of power as you want to claim ,does not qualify to be the commander in chief. Even his closest allies, the Edwin Clark and Buccanister have accepted that GEJ is a weak leader. Or you want us to start talking about the rape of the nation through corruption by GEJ and his gang of looters?
So what are we saying? we are saying nobody sponsors boko haram, they are a group of insurgents whom GEJ treated with kids glove and allow to fester into a terrorist group. - GEJ lost the election blue black, in fact he saw the hand writing on the wall leading to the election forcing him to postpone the election, that did not save him. - We have given GEJ up to six years to crush Boko haram, we will give Buhari at most a year to assess his progress after which we will call him a failure too. |

Ovamboland: It is well known that Buhari is not gifted in oratory skill but his integrity and discipline is still intact, we can still leverage on that.
It is a disaster to be saddled with a leader who can't articulate himself and to the booth lacks discipline and integrity.
The writer really missed road by placing our woes only on leadership, forgetting that the leaders emerge from amidst the followers and only the reflect the sum total of the aggregate leadership qualities inherent in all of us. Change from the top is difficult if it is not marched with deliberate effort at the micro-family unit level. For example many youngsters today have been taught it is alright to lie and call it wisdom or smartness. A 66 year old parent was recently caught writing WAEC or so exams for his child. Other parents are known to gleefully purchase answers, procure mercenaries or pay for miracle centers for their kids. What can you expect such kids to do when they are finally unleashed on society? The evidence is all over Nairaland where many posters are not incensed by the mid boggling revelation of looting of public funds.
For some mundane considerations like religion, ethnic origin, or political party affiliations they are willing to trade the violent acts of stealing on societal fabric on the alter of being champions of their small enclave. Nothing can shock them anymore as their minds has been pummeled first by their parents, then their community that celebrates reprobates and the government run by even more common criminals.
The majority who are feeble minded and remain on the fence and are usually unwilling partakers'in malfeasance can be redeemed to do right in the face of a firm leader, but we need to make it more than skin deep by being blessed by such leaders for at least the next 40 years. To make the new national direction meaningful it cannot stop at the top man only howling probity, it must permeate to the family unit and educational system. The curriculum right from the elementary level must reflect teaching of values, virtues and morals and what it means. The current cash and carry educational system needs to be overhauled, and offenders must be punished and seen to be punished not by public lynching but by the instruments of law to promote a orderly society. At the family level their might be need to employ and train social workers to take the message in the local languages to all the nooks and crannies of the country
In a nutshell, institutional reforms is much more enduring than simply having a firm leader. And the follower must support and work for the success of such reforms not with the current howling when the current weak institutions even attempts to perform its statutory fucntions |
