I need tips, I mean more tips on what to wear cos a lady told me to be formal while a guy that was in the usa recently asked me to prolly be on native which I think is odd or be on jean and a polo shirt which I knda digg, What mode of dressing is preferable? So u were able to get d date at last! Shaken up ke? Stop se be!! just be cool, it'll be well. Go with d mentality of picking ur visa up. In as much as it's not abt ur dressing style, u don't want to make it difficult for d vo to believe u are a prospective student. So knife and yam dey ya hand! btw, are u m/f? |

Kreamie: @All, After one has been refused a visa using the emergency interview option, can one re-apply for another emergency immediately? Or how soon can one apply for anothe emergency date? Kreamie: @Square: Plz do u have an answer to ma question? Kreamie, i'm not sure i've a solid response for dis but from my own perspective, i don't think there's any such barrier as to how many times/how soon one can apply for emergency date. i trust think that, logically, your reason must be VERY cogent for your request to be honored the 2nd time. If i may ask, i hope u r not anticipating dis for urslf? We all know it's a gd thing to have contingency plans but pls let ur mind be geared more towards getting d visa at a go. Wishing u d very best. |

TranceD: Hello guys, my emergency request was approved today and i was able to book for 30th Nov. Can i go with an account statement with October date? I think the answer is very much a yes. They hardly scrutinize d date stuff. What they concentrate on, mostly, is the final balance, not even the flow of cash. If it won't cost u any pain to get a very recent one, go with a recent acct and if u can't, i don't think there's a big deal considering my first comments with the fact that October is not too "outdated". |

if not, is there a place I can safety keep the luggage? Nowhere in the embassy building. I've not been to that of Abj but I guess you will very much need to find a nearby place, shop, restaurant and talk to them help u keep custody. So you might want to limit your luggage to d bearest minimum when coming in the first place. |

kacytunde: Hello everyone,
Pls, I need your urgent sugestions on my case. Below is my interview at Abuja on 15th Nov 2011. I have scheduled another date for the interview( 3rd Dec, 2011). IAbout me: I bagged my B.Eng Electrical in 2005 from Unilorin and did NYSC in Kano state where I worked as an IT Instructor . I lectured computer programming and got certified in Java programming in the process. Later, I struggled to join an IT firm but all my effort proved abortive. Fortunately, I got a Job with Globacom as a BSS/TX Engineer in 2008.The Job is interesting and I am comfortable with it .But, my decision to take up MSC in Information Technology was my fascination for Software designs and programming , my dream is to become a successful Software Developer, I find my happiness in doing this and interest me a lot. Now, during my last Interview for F1- Visa, the questn below was asked: VO: So why did you want to do Masters degree? ME: To aid my promotion in my place of work. The question: Can I change my response to : I intend to change my career part from Telecommunication to Software development, If the above question is asked again during my next interview.
I hope it will not implicate me as I will be giving different answers for the same question. Even if dem use juju, dem no go know how u bn ans dis question d last time. The truth of the matter is u can as drafted above What will be on their record for denying you earlier could be something like "no home tie", "denied under section 214b", "no funds", etc, etc and not the entire conversation. Looking at your proposed response, well, it sounds ok (at least to me) but u need to anticipate that it might be breed more questions. Think abt answers to more probable questions that will follow like "why?" "then what are your plans afterwards?" Overall, d real mccoy's to look and sound confident abt your responses. I just hope u get my msg. |

Square65: My appointment was for 10am but was interviewed around 12:45pm.
Me: Good afternoon.
VO: Good morning. Let me have your docs. Me: Passed them
VO: Why are you traveling to the US? Me: For my graduate studies
VO: What programme? Me: MSc Chemical Engineering
VO: Did you take the GRE? Me: Yes
VO: Let me have your score report Me: Gave him
VO: Which other schools did you apply to? Me: ULL, WVU
VO: Why this particular school? Me: They run the Chemical Engineering programme in combined department of Chemical & Natural Gas Engineering, so it will give me the opportun ,
VO: Completes my sentence , to specialize in Natural Gas Engineering later on. That's very good. Where did you complete your undergraduate studies? Me: Said
VO: What did you study? Me: Chemical Engineering
VO: So what do you do presently? Me: Procurement Engineering/Project Management
VO: How long have you been on the job? Me: About 1 yr now
VO: So you finished school and got this your present job immediately? Me: Yes, but not until after my service year in 2009/10.
VO: So are you coming back to your present job or you will get another? Me: I will come back to my present job
VO: Why? Me: My employer's a part-sponsor
VO: You have a letter of support from your employer? Me: Yes.
VO: Let me see it Me: Gave him
VO: Verifies on my I-20. Ok, I see , Awwww, there's a mistake here, your letter of support states w per mth, while your I-20 states x (= 24w) for d first year. Instead, it should show 12w. Now, if u remove 12w from the total u have now, you will be short by y(about $1.3k). Also, I can see you have a scholarship/tuition waiver of z from the school, do you have an award letter for this scholarship? Me: Yes. Gave him the letter
VO: Reads the letter. The letter does not state the overall amount/effect of the scholarship and tuition waiver as detailed on your I-20, the school has really messed this one up for you , Me: Already going defensive now. The I-20 explains this under the "Remarks" section.
VO: The I-20 is one document and the letter's another. What is required here's that both of them say exactly the same thing. I would have overlooked this if it was just one issue but there are two and, If I give you the visa now, you will be questioned at POE and that will be problems for both of us. You should get a revised I-20 with the required corrections from the school. Me: At this point, my mind flashed back to the very first day I started preparing for GRE till this moment, was about watching all my efforts go down the drain with the words "I am sorry , "
VO: So I am giving you this form, so you will be able to come in without making another appointment. Me: Came back from trance, with a ray of hope on my face. Thank you very much! I screamed that out as if I was already given the visa.
The forms states I could come back after 1pm any Monday/Wednesday within 1yr from now.
Lessons Learned Although the VO put all the blame solely on the school, I share a very big part. I should have done the calculation well, probably put more money than necessary in my account and perhaps there wouldn't have been a need to get an updated I-20 if, even after removing the 12w, funds were sufficient. I used to think I was more meticulous than this but I think anxiety played its role fine.
While I thank God for a second chance, I trust him to finish what he's started.
To all who await their interview, please learn a lesson from this and tie all seemingly loose ends.
Good tidings shall never cease in this house! and part #2. I got there a few minutes to 1pm and was given straight access after showing the call back letter and routine screening by the security. Waited in the hall for about 1hr and then, VO: Opens his window, Peeps through, looks at my passport, looks at me and beckonedME: Went to the counter. I saw he had already packed my passport with other docs was quite relievedVO: You have your revised I-20? ME: Gave himVO: and the scholarship letter showing the tuition waiver amount?? ME: Gave himVO: Your statement of account? Just for formality ME: Gave himVO: I will be issuing you a visa, take this form so you can pick up at bla bla bla ME: Went deaf after "take this form", was packing my docs immediately before he changes his mindVO: bla bla bla bla bla Lekki, Next Tues ME: Finished packing my docs. Thank you and have a nice day. Left the hall with a very straight face with a guise of one who has just been denied until the security men at the door called me back to say "you forget say them use mic? Oga, abeg make we drink coke." did the needful and smiled as I left the building.Observe how much of speaking I did. Was really surprising, I thank God. |

solo4deji: International Applicants,
Please be aware that due to a technical error throughout the SEVIS system in all American consulates and embassies, VISA issuance has been put on hold. This means there will be a general delay in issuing VISAs for I-20 holders. You may want to contact the embassy or consulate you where your VISA interview is to take place, to find out if your appointment will be affected. This is VERY false. I actually called the embassy and the info was debunked. Case rested! |
